Vickie, I have to watch myself. Next time i make a suggestion to you about a new topic, I will know you will run with it! I have to check in on the craft thread and see what's up there. i posted my first knitting project I made 2 years ago.
I will ask my mom for suggestions on patterns for a knit square. She is the expert wiht that craft. I have so many crochet books, there has to be a pattern for a square. I will see if my friend, Marge also a bc survivor, wants to make some too if that's OK.
Love and hugs,
Beth
I know I said I was going to bed early but I woke up after 2 hours and couldn't go back to sleep. Harumph! -
I have to agree with Madison as dressmaker and Lilia have been on my mind since we started this thread. I do agree that our first two should go to them for all the hard work they put into the wonderful quilts they make. The quilts are truly beautiful works of art and there is just no way we will ever "compete" with them...this is for fun and stress relief...to keep our hands busy and our minds off bc. I don't want them to feel like we are "stepping on thier toes" so to speak.
Not good at expressing exactly what I mean but I think you get my point.
Kimmytoo...WOW...THATS NICE...IT WILL WORK!
Off to get ready for work.
Hugs all
Vickie -
Just a bump on this thread.
How is everyone?
Madison -
Kimmy, your square is so pretty!
Another suggestion from the WarmUpAmerica site: cut out a 7" x 9" cardboard template to measure against - easier than using a tape measure or ruler. -
Ok ladies...are we crocheting? Kimmytoo...I just love that square, it's so pretty...nice work.
Predicting an ice storm here starting tonight through Monday so I am going to grab some groceries this morning, do some baking, make up some soup and spend the rest of my weekend cuddled on the couch with Nate, crocheting and watching movies.
I am sooo excited...you guys are the greatest.
Hugs
Vickie -
too busy crocheting to update much. I have 3 squares, but am side-tracked by trying to work up a hat with fun fur for someone... never done a hat and never used fun fur. i don't think its going so well, so I am making my friend come over and see if she can diagnose my problem (I'm just learning to read patterns...) I'm pretty sure that hats should have more shape than this floppy circle, but maybe the shape doesn't happen until you start decreasing stitches (which ought to be nice and confusing)
I know single, double, half double, slip stitch and how to make a granny square. This hat thing is wearing me out -- maybe she'll take pity on me and finish this fun fur one and I'll try it with regular yarn..... -
Kimmy...I have a hard time crocheting with the fun fur...can't see the stitches so I use the knifty knitter. I actually think I can make squares with my straight knifty knitter and I'm going to give it a try.
Learning to read the patterns is pretty easy...I always write down how many rows I have to do and cross them off as I go so I don't lose my place though!
Have fun! -
Hello friends,
What size crochet needle are you using?
Vickie, I do the exact same thing.....I write down how many rows and cross them out as I go.....It is easier for me to do it this way because of the constant interruptions life hands me when I try to crochet. I NEVER finish a project at one sitting.
Thanks, Madison -
hmmm...not sure if it matters what size needles we are using as long as the squares are 7x9. I usually use a G hook though.
I never finish a project in one sitting either LOL...I have so many projects going that I'll be busy till I'm at least 90! AND YES...I PLAN ON STILL BEING HERE! God willing.
Love
Vickie -
i used a k hook on the orange and am using an i hook on the purple/tan ones i am doing. i always use bigger hooks because my friend told me that my stitches are too tight.
-
Madison, Vickie...whether I knit or crochet I always have a 3x5 card at my side marking off rows. I pulled out all of the partial skeins and other leftovers. My mom made a sweater with all kinds of funky yarns so I will incorporate them where i can.
Glad to hear I am not the only one with unfinished projects. I try to get them done and then see somthing in a magazine or online and go buy more yarn and...you knowwhat I mean.
See ya later! -
OK...did some checking and any size hook is fine as long as the squares are 7x9.
and buy more yarn...yup...I know just what you mean LOL. -
Vickie-
You can make squares on the knifty knitter. You just cast on as many pegs as you need to make 7 inches...you could go back to a hat and measure to see how many that would be...then go back and forth instead of around. I made a scarf that way. It is fast too...I might have to start one of those
Argg.....so much yarn...so little time
Hugs
Deb C -
Thanks Deb...oh I am sooo excited and like you...so much yarn...so little time LOL.
-
i have straight and round nifty knitters -- don't know how to use them.....
-
WooHoo! I finished my first square...I'm excited

Once you learn to use them, they are SO easy. To do a flat square, you just use one section of the loom, how ever many pegs you need to make 7 inches of stitches, and then work back and forth instead of in the round.
Deb C -
Wow Deb...what a great site. I love my knifty knitter and make chemo caps with it all the time. I have looked high and low for patterns and now I have some!!! Thanks
-
HEY, you know I'm in.....

There--finished my first square. Crochet skills a little rusty but it goes a lot faster than knitting!
-
ok............i'm trying soooooooo hard to catch up!
i'm so not domestic..........i can cook, keep a home, get a tan and work my ass off!
but i digress.............i have no clue how to knit or crochet or sew, but i do know how to get grammie to knit, or i can write a cheque..............so how do i get in on this?
my ex husband always faulted me for having no "hobbies"........anybody brave enough can pm me crocheting directions lol! -
OK...first five squares done! I KNEW I saved all my little bits of cool yarn for a reason! Pack rats of the world UNITE!
The blue and burgundy squares are the Lion Brand Thick and Quick Chenille, The Pink one is pink fun fur with very thin purple chenille, The purple is a Lion Brand Homespun, and the multi color one is a thin black chenille with rainbow Lion Brand Incredible ribbon yarn.
I am having a BLAST!!!
Ill PM you a good instruction site Shel

wooohooo Deb...wow how pretty!! Your way ahead of me...got sooo busy yesterday and crashed last night. Crocheting is the only thing on my list of "to do's" today (that and keeping Nathaniels belly full...which is a full time job LOL...where does an 8 year old put all that food!)
Shel...you can get a knifty knitter too...they are pretty easy and Deb posted a link above with great patterns. -
Beautiful Deb,
Thanks for the link for knifty knitters! I wish I had one right now, before the Ice and Snow Storm kicks in. Maybe, just maybe I can handle this craft!
I would like to help with the efforts you great, talented friends are creating. If you need donations or such for supplies, I would gladly pitch in!
Denise -
Shel, go onto the webiste for Lion Brand and they have "how to" links. it is www.lionbrand.com.
I am switching to knitting the squares. I found a really great pattern to crochet but I am stuck on the 4 round! -
Hi Denise and welcome...come join the fun...Grab yourself a knifty knitter when you get the chance. It's great stress relief and just feels "nice" to have something worthwhile to do!
Hey Deb...got three done...working still and I'll post pics later...left the dustbunnies for another day!
Hi Beth...wish I could knit but I'm really knitting challenged!! -
woohoo...here's the three so far...still need to weave in the ends and straighten them up a bit. I'm on a roll now.

Kimmy, Vickie, DebC:
Absolutely Gorgeous
My crochet hook and yarn are at my side.....
Madison -
Hi Ladies,
I haven't been on this site much in the past couple of weeks, so I hope it isn't too late to join in! I've just taught myself to crochet, and I think I can probably handle making the squares! I'm so excited -- something to do while I'm at my daughter's all day dance competitions!
