My (perhaps controversial) thoughts as a "newbie" to CA.

Molly, that's what I thought too. I'll see him in 6 weeks and I'll ask him to make sure I understood him right. I'm sure I missed something in the translation. I thought I'd have to be monitored regularly with the Tamoxifen? I'm so confused
-
Congratulations, WenchLori! From what others have said I understand this is a bittersweet moment. Where's that safety net? Sure hope you'll continue to hang out here as you've been a tremendous support and help!
-
Tappermom, I'm not going anywhere you guys are stuck with me!
Molly, I asked my MO again about continuing to follow me for years to come? He said again from the type, size and location of tumor and with the DBMX I'm good to go. I'll see him in 6 weeks to get my Tamoxifen script and be tested occasionally for SEs but other than that I'm done. I feel a little better about it but I'll still keep a close eye on things from here on. It I st doesn't seem right to me...
-
Congratulations, Lori! Am sure you feel relieved even though you are "abandoned"!! LOL along with you! Follow what your doc said and no entering gymnastics competitions! Have fun with your critters in the meantime.....t
-
Lori, I would be concerned as well. Obviously if you had chemo you have more risk than me and I see my MO every 4 months. He is going to move me to every six I think after this appointment and I still see my BS every six months.
-
Lori-- Oops, I thought you were kidding when you said you felt abandoned.....but now that I reread I can see your point. I didn't have the after-surgery things like you did, but I do see my breast surgeon in a year....hmmmm...I would think that being on tamoxifen would mean follow-ups with him just to check on how you are doing, the pills, etc....that as long as you are being prescribed something there is follow-up...
-
Molly, I'll give Sassy a call later this evening. She's on another thread and very helpful to those of us that are in a constant state of confusion.
Trill, I hate being abandoned but I will adjust lol
I had my blood work done this morning and everything came back normal. I went out to eat my sandwich by the pond and feed my fish this afternoon... just to relax. While I was sitting there minding my own business, Papa Goose was nice enough to go on a run with me! Ok, it wasn't so much as a run with me as it was me running away from him! I'm not sure what's gotten into him this year as he's never chased me before. Maybe he thinks I'm fat and I needed to burn off my sandwich?! Oh well, silly goose!
This is Mama Possum with a pouch full of babies. I love sitting and watching the little ones squirm. So cute! She's probably a good 4 to5 lb possum!
-
So cute!!
-
Lori--three things:
Love Mama Possum!
Glad your blood work's good....
And I'm envious--I want a Papa Goose to go on a run with!!
-
Congrats, Lori, you did it!
I'm supposed to alternate seeing my BS and MO every couple of months.... imagine you will need to as well.
Thanks for the possum love! They get a bad rap, but they are little bonuses to our ecosystem, and don't get rabies, to boot!
Carrie

Happy Easter wishes, ladies, from me and Pantaloon....

-
Forthingay, I'm hoping I've just misunderstood my MO. I love possums too and one can eat an average of 5,000 ticks each year.
I walked around the pond this morning to see if I could count goose eggs without getting attacked. I was able to count 6 eggs before being run off. lol
Feeding our catfish
Morel Mushrooms I found. They are very expensive and totally yummy!
Rosy Minnows
-
Happy Easter! Trill, I love that magazine cover!
-
Lori - Lucky you, to have those beautiful Morels growing nearby. Yum!
Happy weekend to all!
-
Lori--Great photos and love the Morels! They look yummy...I just saw a pbs food thingy recently about them....had never seen one....quite a delicacy....
And the catfish! And the minnows!!
Speaking of critters-- I just spent four hours plus watching April the giraffe who is due any day...I'd been watching this British spy series on netflix and then when it ended of course I had to check in on April....have been watching since late February. Normally at nine a.m. or so there are about 100,000 or less viewing.....but there were over 900,000! Whaaaa??? I thought there was some mistake but then I saw these two hoofs sticking out of April's backside-about a foot and a half of calf legs! Wow--the delivery had started! After that of course I was glued to the laptop...it took an hour or so but finally kerplop! Out fell the whole rest of the calf onto the stall floor....I was cheering her on! By then 1,200,000 people were also watching....
It's been a few hours and the little thing is up and getting around and very beautiful and spunky...April must be exhausted!
OK--that's my animal saga for the day!
-
Happy Easter everyone! 💋
Trill, what a beautiful sight! An April baby for April! Absolutely gorgeous!
The girls came to visit last night, all with big tummies.
-
Lori, I hope the girls bring their babies around after they are born.
Trill, I just missed seeing April's baby born. I logged on not long after it was born. It is so adorable! It is now running around the pen. I could watch it all day.
Happy Easter, Everyone!
-
Lori---Great shot of the deer!
DisneyGirl-- I DID watch all day!
-
April's baby is a boy! Mother Nature at her best!
Here's a few pictures of our "grandanimals" hunting for eggs. They are so funny and never disappoint us lol
Stuffing eggs with cat kibble, peeps and chicken
Before
During
Look Mommy! I laid an egg!
The mess after the party!
DH slamming the door closed "A raccoon scratched at the door and I thought it wanted a peep, but he dropped the peep and wants to come in the house!"
Me, "So let him in"
DH "Are you crazy?!"
Me "Nope, he just wants to sit and look around."
DH "Yeah right!"
I sat down on the floor and waited, Buddy came back, stood up on his back legs and scratched on the patio door.
Me "He's back" (opening door)
DH " What are you doing?!"
Me "I'm letting him in."
DH "Are you crazy?!"
Me "Nope, he just wants to visit."
Buddy comes in, sits, looks around sniffs for a bit then goes on his way.
DH "I thought you were exaggerating when you said the raccoons come in to visit with you"
Me "Why would I exaggerate such a thing?"
DH "Cuz you're you."
Me "Nope, not me."
DH "You and your animals!"
We had a great Easter! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter too!
-
Lori!! I love, love, love those pictures!! Trill, what is the name of the British spy series? I am a total anglophile and have been loving streaming different British shows on Netflix. I watched The Great British Baking Show, Grand Designs, Hidden Places and now am watching a show similar to our HGTV shows.

Hi Ladies,
I've scrolled around and i can't find my last post on this thread, lol, so forgive me please, for forgetting what I last wrote.
I had SNB surgery last wednesday, and have followup appt with BS tomorrow (Tues) morning to get the results. I've been so deep into doing research online that I'm exhausted and ready for my nighttime TV, so I'm just popping in to say hi. And complain: THIS IS SO HARD!!!
I'm overwhelmed with info. Trying to weigh things out. Couple factors suggest I should get conservative treatment, more factors suggest I should hit the cancer with everything they've got. Then of course, the holistically-minded and skeptical side of me has to stick its head into the mix and consider the alternative and complementary aspects of cancer care, their success stories, the conspiracy theories (Big Pharma and mainstream medical community wanting to rush cancer patients onto chemo, radiation, and tons of meds to manage the side effects), and even some mainstream, cutting edge research suggesting that traditional treatments contribute to recurrences and mets because they don't kill cancer stem cells, and and and and it's enough to set my head spinning! Arrrgh!!!
Sooooo, my mind is iffy as it is, and I'm losing what's left of it. LOL. I'm sure I'm not the first to go through this. Thanks for listening! TTY'allL

Lori------> Girl, you are a hoot! Love your dialogue with your husband over "letting the raccoon in..." That's so funny! And the photos are wonderful! Boy, you sure did them proud on this Easter! You have them totally spoiled and I love it!
Molly---> I actually watched a couple of series--well, three to be exact. Waiting for April's baby calf delivery I split-screened and kept her on one side, videos on the other....of course spy things take up all your attention so that didn't last long! Had to come to a decision and chose April over videos. I mean, how many 129 pound babies does one get to witness being born on the average day?
I loved "The Assets.." A six-parter about mega awful American spy Aldrich Ames. The guy playing him gives me the creeps so badly I couldn't watch some of his closeups....I just couldn't....But the series was excellent...in fact I've seen it twice.
"Spies of Warsaw" was a true saga about early Nazi days in Poland.. David Tennant starred and was great. Good story and a fascinating conclusion...
(Did you see The Politician's Wife with Tennant and I think Samantha Morton--that was great. I saw it twice and am sorry it's not on Netflix any longer. Another I highly recommend is Doctor Foster. This was WONDEFUL! Boy, what a story! Talk about high drama!)
"London Spy" is a fictional series. Really intriguing stuff. And I see it will have another season....Overall good show.
I love the Baking show. It's all I can do to stop myself from afterward going in the kitchen and baking something!
NCGirl---> I hope all goes well on Tuesday. I know you'll eventually come to a decision regarding treatment---we all do. But the research can be a slow slog through articles, etc. You've gone through the big initial things--hope the rest is smooth-sailing...
OK, to bed!
(Baby Giraffe Calf is sleeping in his corner, mom across the way.... Rest must feel good to her!)
-
NCGirl, I know what you mean with all the research. What a mess to wade through! It didn't take me long to decide what I wanted to do. My kids had a lot to do with my decision as they asked me to throw everything available at it so I did. They've lost too many friends to BC and begged me not to do as they did which was an alternative treatment. It also depends on your diagnosis. I'm sorry I know I'm not much help am I?
-
NCBeachGirl: Good luck tomorrow. My DX is similar to yours: ER-/PR-, HER2+, Ki-67>70. Because you are HER2+, Herceptin for 1 year will probably be in your treatment plan.
Hang in there! You'll get through it.

Hi Ladies,
I had a followup with BS this morning to discuss pathology report from last week's SNB. The doc was all happy cuz all was negative. but when I got home and studied the report and how node status is determined, I learned that "clear" isn't necessarily totally clear. Technically, my node was negative. However, the report said there were 7 "isolated tumor cells." Well, that didn't sound too scary until I found out that an ITC isn't a single cell, but up to about 200 cells or .2mm. Well sheez. That sounds kinda positive in my book! Upon more research, there is some debate about the whole matter among pathologists. Ugh!
BS is putting in a referral to an MO for me. She put in a referral for RO, too, but until I see the MO, I won't know if he'll want chemo/herceptin first or radiation. We don't even know for sure what he's going to recommend. In any event, BS said I can't do anything for at least 3 weeks to give my body time to heal from surgery. I have a huge green bruise on my boob and my nipple itches! The BS was thrilled, lol. She's a real hoot. Followup in 3 weeks.
On a very happy note, the cervical polyp that was removed last week is benign. Yay!! Thursday I have my annual cancer check with my urologist (bladder cancer a few years ago, only needed surgery). I've been clear for several years, so hopefully i'll be clear again this year.
I am so tired!
-
NCBeachGirl, hang in there! Your doing great with all the info being thrown at you all at once. Yay! B9s are great aren't they! Sending prayers your way!
I have my skin check with my RO tomorrow hopefully he'll cut me lose... at least I hope I never have to see him again! My MO office called yesterday to push my f/u out a few more weeks as MO is going on vacation. I said nope. I have too many questions for him so give me an earlier date please. So they did! If I don't like the answers I get I'll request a second opinion on what my future appointments should be. Nuff said
Waving hello to everyone 👋
-
NCBeachGirl, know you have your many questions and that appt with the MO I hope will help sort matters. I don't blame you for being queasy with the "all clear" thing....esp with those isolated cells thingy...that would mess up my mind too! Fingers crossed it gets worked out for you soon! In the meantime, would a cold pack help the boob? I bought one of those cold pack pillow things and loved it while I was healing...I used to stick it in the fridge and then hold it up to my sore chest lightly and it really helped....then the thing got weird--oh, I recall--it was one you put water in and leave in even while it was stored away in the winter. After I'd had it awhile and brought it out for the summer, it began to leak...so off it went....now I have another that is all sealed and was great in the heat last year--it's extra wide and I drape it over the pillow and it stays cool a long time.....OK-- hope those appts help you!
Lori--Yay for you that you said I'd rather have an appt earlier than way later!! Yes!! That's the way to handle it! And get that 2nd opinion if you need it!
As for me, well, I'm gonna miss April the giraffe cam--seems they will end the live feed 24/7 this week...their work load is high and I think all the emails and stuff related to the live feed took up too much time...getting them behind...they open to the public in May.....gettin close...in the meantime, April is doing great and baby is a treasure...I just hope they get a yard cam going when they open...one can hope...at least leave their youtube archive available for those of us suffering from withdrawal!!!!
-
NCBeachGirl - Welcome! And hang in there!
Lori - Thank you so much for sharing the pictures of the grandanimals with their Easter eggs! What fun that must have been watching them. And letting the raccoon in the house sounds like something I would try. Lol. Hope your appts go well.
Trill - I am also going to miss watching April and her calf. I feel vested in them at this point. Lol.
-
O DisneyGirl---I'm gonna miss April and baby. Have you seen him run rings around her? I'm hoping their archive will stay active so I can get a fix every now and then....Is he the most wonderful little guy ever made?
-
Trill - Yes, I love it when he runs around the pen. He is adorable. I also watched a mama and her baby last year. I think were in South Carolina. They had a camera in the pen and out in the paddock area. I watched them for months.
The Cincinnati Zoo has a baby hippo that was born prematurely that they have been taking care of and posting videos of on their Facebook page. Her name is Fiona and she is so cute.
