Here are some of my Costa Rica birds.
and the sloth
-
Hey ladies - congrats to us. We just moved to page 1000.
-
Puffin,
I am enjoying the nice pics, especially the sloth!!!!
-
Wow, you took those pictures! Beautiful. I'm a bird person, but those crazy crows and blackbirds keep the little ones from the feeder, and the woodpeckers damage our log house! You were blessed to have this wonderful trip!

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

What gorgeous pictures Puffin. I found myself wondering if a lot of people ( Costa Rica ) are used to such beauty that they don't always notice. So busy living that often you don't have time what is a 'natural' wonder in your own area.
I keep reminding myself how fortunate I am to live in a heavily wooded area and get to experience all I do here -- but I admit, sometimes other parts of life just grab a lot of your time, so I would understand.
Good for you Carole -- speaking your mind and I really appreciate it. I spent many yrs. confused where religion is concerned -- so I sort of gave it up to delve deeper in the spiritual world -- where I actually began to see that all religions can be 'right'. I think the problem sometimes comes in when people are not able to accept that ONE way ( one size fits all ) just doesn't work for a lot of people. Religion has gotten better the last few yrs. about that issue, but I'm so far into the spiritual side ( having pieced together from all religions and seeing it work in my life ) that I don't need a standard well recognized one now. You are right -- if we are positive and highly comfortable -- then it is the right path for us.
We do have 'funny/odd/strange' families at times. There have been a few in mine whom I voluntarily chose to keep somewhat at arm's length. When I come home miserable too many times after spending time with someone then it is a good indication that all efforts to forge a good relationship are not working. We are taught most of our life to acquiesce to family -- as though they are due a special reason to honor them -- but one day I realized if a couple of ( worst offenders ) these people were close neighbors or often seen acquaintances, I would have little hesitation in limiting time spent with them. We cannot choose our family, but we can choose how much time we will spend around them. Well, you know, just another lifetime lesson. That's what the whole of everything is -- learning how to co-exist in the world to make the most of our days. When we are able to 'see' clearly what best enhances our soul's existence it is a good thing for all.
Lovely sunny Saturday here. Oh my --- tomorrow may be better yet -- almost 80 the weatherman says. It won't last but I always enjoy those peeks into what is coming later as consistent weather. A teaser, but appreciated anyway.

Puffin - Enjoyed your pics. Please post more. Must have been wonderful to see all the wildlife.
Everyone else - Happy Saturday, Happy Weekend!

To me, the essence of keeping the soul nourished is obedience to one's conscience. I don't think that the soul can be nourished unless people have a strong sense of conscience that they have educated and developed and soaked in the universal and timeless principles of integrity and service. This way, the individual's soul becomes part of the universal soul of service, contribution, and making a difference.

What exotic birds! Enjoyed seeing the pictures, Puffin.
Happy Sunday to all

Oh, did I get the chuckles from those little bears. They ( unlike some in government ) cooperated with each other often so they could get into a severely misbehavin' hammock. It was hilarious and they know something that we people easily forget. We are here for a lot of reasons ( all have a list ) but we are also meant for joy and fun -- and those little bears knew how to get that part right.
It is so pretty today and already warm enough to be outside with a t-shirt on. Ideal weather for me. Have a few extra things to do, but part of the time outside so I'll get a good dose of joy just being grateful for a pretty just right day.
Hope you all have a beauty too.
-
We don't realize how smart they are! They really can problem solve! DH and I really enjoyed this. There were videos a while ago of some bears playing with pool noodles and the slide near where we live. Have friends who get them on their deck. Only seen 1 in all the time we have live in our neighborhood.
-
I think Mama bear was enjoying having them occupied together where she could keep an eye on them. Every mother needs a rest.

It really is cool to see that we are up to page 1,000. For those who've been here from the beginning, it must be doubly so. I've only been here since 2013. It might be fun to find out when each of you joined this group.

(October 2014) ;o)

Dec 2007 -- The group started in 2009.

I started Dec. 2011.

Morning gals! My first post was on this thread Nov. 19, 2009.... And you Jackie, and Carole were also here! I started on page 105....
Man, I remember being so afraid of having cancer at 72... I thought I was way too old to even GET anything that serious! But being with this group helped me more than I can ever say..... All these years!
Jackie, have you gone back and read through the posts? It really made me sad, to see all the gals that were there, and have moved on, one way or another.... But still good to read through those posts, and see what we all went through....
I just thank God we are HERE, and not back THERE again...
Going to be a beautiful day.... Sun shining, only 37, but supposed to be warming up for the next week at least. We walked up to Starbucks yesterday, before the wind came up.... MAN, those trees were ROCKIN' yesterday afternoon! Probably run to the store for a few things today....
Okay.... talk to you sweet ladies later! xoxo
-
Morning ladies. In the 60's today and 80 tomorrow. Not long ago there was 2 feet of snow on the ground! Took the flannel sheets off this morning.
I joined in August 2012, after I was diagnosed. Last summer when I met Anne, discovered we had this area and some family distantly in common! Ya never know!

To a happy person, the formula for happiness is quite simple: Regardless of what happened early this morning, last week, or last year—or what may happen later this evening, tomorrow, or three years from now—now is where happiness lies.Happy people understand that life is really nothing more than a series of present moments to experience, one after another. They understand and appreciate the past for what it taught them about living more in the now, and they see the future as more present moments to experience.Mostly, they understand that right now, this very moment, is where life is truly lived. -Richard Carlson

Cloudy out this a.m. but warm enough to make me be okay with that. I don't think rain was forecast, so maybe we will see some more sun later. Hope so.
I have gone back and read Chevy, many of the "first" older entries we made long ago. Easy to see then that time and tide keep moving and changing. Well, it is true that many of the people who were once here have moved on in some way or even to other threads. I think everyone here knows the story of a big dust-up here and most everyone left. I just didn't want to give up what to me had become a special place --- though anyone can come here, in the beginning because we have an older attitude, needs, reactions to txs., we wanted to have a thread/forum where we weren't so heavily mingled with many younger ladies. No offense, of course -- the one uniting factor is the diagnosis -- but many of us had "older" concerns and while we could relate to a degree and certainly totally sympathize with all -- it seemed natural to gather together here.
I guess this has sort of become a part of who I am and it starts my day ( at least for me ) in one of the best ways possible -- sharing in the early mornings with people I call friends. I can have a viewpoint I may be thinking about, share, and then hear how others feel on the same subject. I don't travel all over BC.Org. as it would be far too distracting for me -- I'm a bit dispersed already without spreading myself super thin, but I do have three places I go every day. That is here, the Illinois thread and a political thread --- and that is about all I can do w/o getting totally lost mentally with too many conflicting personalities, and ideas to react too.
I'd do one of my favorite things and put in a recipe, but my big cat ( Autumn ) is laying on the one I want and I don't want to upset her apple cart so early. She is a BIG feisty gal -- not her fault though. The person that had her, had all four claws removed -- so Autumn tends to lunge at you first, and think about it later. She is good with me, but being a push-over for not rocking the boat -- I'll just wait. For non-cat lovers --- cats w/o claws tend to defend themselves in other ways -- Autumn bites. Not me anymore, but she was a terror for her first yr. here till she got it all figured out.
-
So much better when they can warn you with a whack. We mention the biting with declawed cats being shown at the shelter. All 4 paws is just awful. I'm surprised she can get around well.
-
I know Jackie! I didn't get up to the part where some of the gals ....... oh never mind..... Isn't important anyway.... right? Just a nice bunch of gals on here now.... Thanks to you, you kept the thread going, never giving up, and here we are now.....!
So beautiful here today! Going to go water the new plants I set out...... If/when it gets cool, I can cover them with big plastic pots.... I'm always in such a hurry to plant Tomatoes and the other things we like....
THIS year, I have added compost to all the pots..... I can tell a difference already, in some of the plants I set out last week.... We cut up or chop everything we don't use... Like banana peels, potato, and carrots. Even cut up watermelon rinds, grapefruit, and everything people put down the disposal, or things you would throw away.... We took out our disposal months ago.... We even compost egg shells, coffee-grounds, and everything we would normally throw away.... Just not cooked stuff.... or not much of it.
I'm wondering about dissolving some old vitamins/minerals? Have any of you done that? I know not the oil-based ones, but any out-dated vitamins?
-
Aha -- learn something new all the time here. Never thought about out-dated vitamins but I don't know why you couldn't do it. They might not be as potent, but unless they are REAL old, there still should be something good in them. You also gave me an idea. I'm cleaning out my pantry -- oh my, the dates on some of that stuff -- but I have some juices that I never got around too -- because I thought I had a use for them when I bought them, then it didn't pan out. So, I think I'll mix with a little water and drip it around a couple of trees here. As it is juice ---- hopefully the dogs won't NEED an extra treat.
Once the pantry is done --- tomorrow since it will be a nice warm day will be the day to defrost my freezer. It is not the chest type, but just right for fitting into one end of my pantry. I think it is about 5 ft. tall or so. There is bound to be some OLD stuff in there too. Sigh !!!! Sometimes I get carried away still and I'm going to have to start watching that. Then again, if I get that done -- I can move some overflow into the freezer in the pantry from my kitchen fridge.
They set almost side by side -- with one thin wall of separation. I had a no-frost freezer which I traded to my cousin. I don't mind defrosting -- it helps me un-load things that have gotten too old --- and hers at 5 ft. fits better in my pantry.

Yesterday I cleaned out my pantry and today I defrosted my freezer. I was afraid I wouldn't be able too, but it worked out. Had a big rain last nigh ( not predicted ) and I thought it would keep it cooler today. It did, but I felt like I just couldn't wait. I still have some more work in the pantry but it is minor.
When I defrost -- since my kitchen door opens right to my deck, I just empty my freezer, push it out on the deck and wait for nature to take its course. Also, no mess in the pantry floor from trying to get the tray out of the bottom of the freezer when it is full of melted water. The deck has spaces between the boards so the water just falls below -- no muss or fuss.
We haven't had the sun today liked I hoped but it hasn't been gray either --- just much more muted. The rain we had last night was actually predicted for the night before which is how OFF predictions can sometimes be around here. I'm glad that it is sort of nice though and the actual defrost only took a couple of hours -- and there was a LOT to defrost. Surprised me. So, onward to the kitchen and pantry to get all the saved food back in the clean freezer.
See you all later. Happy Tuesday.

If the sight of the blue sky fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the field has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive.

Sun is out this morning --- making my day early. Haven't looked at our weather report. As of late -- looking out the window seems a bit more accurate. I get a report daily from St. Louis, Mo which is about 75 miles from us to the West.
I'm onward ( just have to decide ) to another medium project today. They are all medium to me since there is so much to go through to get to where I could call it a big project. That will come when things start getting moved out of here. Small things will go --- but major decisions will be waiting for awhile.
Hope you are all going to have a nice day -- a productive one to if you want.
-
Oh welcome Spring.....first comes the rain......then comes the ants..........I am really angry.......just threw out an unopened bag of sugar.....those suckers can get into anything..........I saw a couple on the bag and though "are ;you friggin kidding me"..........entire bag down the drain.......so now I moved everything from my storage area to the opposite side of the kitchen.......really not happy right now.......have not seen any in the kitchen proper......but I am sure its just a matter of time......rain brings them out of the ground.........REALLY.........

I worked in the yard a couple of hours and did more mulching of flower beds using pine straw. The final effect is nice and neat.
The rest of the day was spent indoors. I downloaded printer drivers on the new laptop so I can use our Epson printer. I haven't managed to set up the wireless function. More to work on.
Jackie, maybe you will inspire me to tackle some closets. It has been a few years since I organized the ones in rooms other than our bedroom.
Our small chest freezer isn't being used. I may get rid of it. I find I have plenty of freezer space in two refrigerators.
