My dear sweet Percy Cat has gone to Rainbow Bridge and back to the universal love that we all come from. I cried buckets and can't hardly look at his fur and paw print the vet made without crying. 16 wonderful years being loved by him and unless you've been well loved by a cat - head bumps, wiggling tail, purring so hard you can hear it across a room, face rubs, funny vocalizations when ever you talk to them, them running up the yard to greet you, fighting for lap space, bringing you dead trophies and kneading you with curly paws and toes... when a cat does all of this, plus love all your kids, tolerate being dressed up, pushed in dolly strollers and loved each family member in turn then you will understand why I am heartbroken. He's a family member by heart bond an exceptionally friendly cat. My little comforter and therapist too.

DH dug a deep hole under the bench in the garden. Percy was sitting out there yesterday in the brief moment of sun we had. He spent many hours laying in the flowers sunning himself. We wrapped him in a lovely cloth and laid him in the soft soil, the kids wrote cards and we buried him with love. I am so glad I made it to be with him and send my love with him. He was down to 6+ pounds and his kidneys were going. So Kjones I am glad I got to be with him and the kids as we let him go DWD via our kind vet Dr. Johnson. It was closure pushing the soil over on his earthly remains. His wonderful spirit is flying free.

Funny how we accept DWD for our pets and not so much for people. I wonder why that is.

Dearest Rose, What a difficult day this has been for you and your family - a mixture of grief upon sending your beloved Percy to Rainbow Bridge and relief that he is not suffering in any way. Your beloved Percy shared so much of himself with you and your family - hours of playfulness and purring, innumerable expressions ranging from desire to exasperation (one can imagine him with an eyebrow cocked!) and a gently lapping tongue. I hope that many happy memories of your years together will help to ease some of your sorrow, and that knowing that he had a wonderful, well-loved life will provide you with a degree of comfort.

Rose I am so very sorry. Percy sounds like he was a wonderful family pet for you and the family. I am sure his spirit is flying high and free. I have a cat that is all white and she has blue eyes and I tell her everything. I know what you mean when you say he was like a therapist. Sending you love and hugs

Rose, there are no words that will make you feel any better. It is so hard to let our fur friends go, they are truly a part of our family. May the sweet memories live in your heart forever.

Thank you for your kind words.. you have given your heart away so you understand. It's so hard. I knew it was coming and I accept death. I totally didn't want him to suffer, but I can't help but miss him. It is my hope the kids will find closure and solace when they bury me too. Part of the great circle of life. It's been a good life too. Happy to have shared it with all the little animals and people in my life.

Our tree is up and the kids decorated the entire thing. Full of owl ornaments (DD1), wooden birds (Me) and everything else DD2 and DD3. Dad is tree master and light stringer. All the lights are blue and white... on a wonderfully pungent noble fir gotten off a local farm up the road. Just beautiful. Peace. Thank you.

    The Rainbow Bridge

    inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

    For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

    Dear Rosevalley,

My heart breaks with you. I know what you are going through.

In my avatar is a picture of my girl, Jackie. Before I adopted her, I had Jack for 13 years. God sent him to me when I needed a special companion so desperately.

He got cancer, and I got the opportunity to put him down on a Friday morning. I cried and mourned all weekend. We adopted Jackie the following Monday morning. She looked exactly like Jack at ~15 months, thus the name Jackie.

Jackie has in no way replaced Jack. They are two completely different souls. I am so grateful that God put both in my life.

You were truly blessed to have Percy for so long, but he was also very blessed to have you and your family.

    ((HUGS))

    Louis

Hugs to you Rose. You described the joy of sharing your life with a cat perfectly. My life would have been much different had my little Evie Kitty not accepted my DH into our little family of two so many years ago.

Percy and you were lucky to have each other.

Rosevalley - I hope sweet memories of Percy comfort you. So sorry you had to tell him goodbye. Animals teach us so much about love, and life, and I guess even death. Sending you a gentle hug.

Dear Rose, I do so hope that Percy and my naughty Oreo have met up; and are basking in the sun, eating yummy green grass, pouncing on leaves, play fighting each other, and dashing madly from one place to another for no particular reason other than joy. Hugs!

Rose, hope today is better for you. So sorry that Percy is no longer with you. Our fur babies love us unconditionally (I have to say I think dogs more so than cats) and bring so much joy. I do hope there is a pet heaven.Hugs

I am counting on a pet heaven seems they certainly deserve it. I have had dogs and cats that I desperately adored. Cricket the border collie mix broke my heart when she died of lymphoma at age 12. Never had a dog so smart, loving so full of character and fun then Cricket. Higgins and Percy cat were the 2 most friendly comical, loving tolerant cats on the planet. Higgs lived to be 12 died of kidney failure and Percy 16 died of kidney failure. In between I have been comforted by many sweet characters Flower (terrier age 18), Daisy (cat 16 ), Banner (DD1's service dog an angel golden retriever 12 died kidney mass cancer), 2 rabbits. Bunsley Abby Rabby and Little Bit (chubs), Betsy the guniea pig and 2 canaries. It's the peaceable kingdom here. My BIL laughs and says if they ever dig up your yard they will wonder what is going on... steven king and all the bodies. We did not bury any of the dogs in the yard. They were all cremated.

Anyway I made it to chemo yesterday, got a liter of fluids that made me feel less thirsty. My chemistry labs are good but my tumor markers went up 213 points to 1523. The mass on my abdomen is huge and hard and eating is miserable. I am sticking to boost today. My oncologist suggested carboplatin in a small dose and DH was all over it. So down the hatch... I have been taking zofran round the clock and that has been helping. have to say. Thank you for all your kind comments and well wishes they sustain me. Have a wonderful day!

Hoping that the Zofran, carboplatin, and boost work well together to give you a restful, peaceful weekend.

What kind of service dog was Banner and how did he help DD1? Does DD have another service dog now?

Sending light and love ❤️ for a wonderful weekend.

I am hanging in there. Had a little N/V yesterday but generally doable. Lots of bloating and belly pain. Maybe the carboplatin is working I am able to keep fluids down for the most part so I am happy about that. Gotta keep truckin along.

Mominator- Banner was a wheel chair assist dog that flunked. He could open doors, retrieve keys, get you up from the floor, turn on and off lights on the wall.. he was soo smart. But he spooked in certain situations so he did not pass and became a companion dog for DD1. She has autism and the two of them bonded so tight it was amazing. Banner knew DD1 was his job. I credit him for opening her up and caring about another life. So sweet. We loved him he was an angel. He protected us all and was just the sweetest soul. After he died of cancer we did not get another dog as we were not sure of her living arrangements or whether she would need a hearing assist dog. As it is she goes to work, rides the bus, goes home alone and does not need an assist dog.

My DH drove me to the bird sanctuary and I was surprised at how many folks were watching the water birds at dusk. The wetlands were lovely greys and browns, cat tails and lots of blue headed wood ducks and mallards. There were lots of coots too. They are such unusual birds and swim so quickly and pop up like corks. They are round grey- black colored birds with white beaks. They were fun to watch. The sunset was pretty and it was very nice to get out of the house and just watch the wild life. Nature is so soothing. Lovingkindness to you all.

We have a small pond on our property, so this summer we brought home a mama Muscovy duck and twelve tiny ones. It didn't take them very long to grow up. They are incredibly beautiful and display all the colors of the rainbow. They are eating me out of house and home now. Such gentle creatures. Here is a Muscovy flower they presented to me last week. Mama duck is the white headed one in the left corner.image
