Welcome, Wendi! We are happy you are here too!
Beautiful picture, Heidi!
This Wednesday we drove to a little town about 30 miles away where one of our walkers grew up. She took us on a tour of the town and the school (where several of our own former students are now teaching), and we went out to breakfast with her awesome parents. Her 88 year old father took last summer off from playing slow pitch softball to get his hip replaced, and he plans to be back on the field this year. Wow, no excuses for the rest of us! (He also paid for all of our breakfasts at the local cafe. What a guy!)
-
Welcome Wend, and good plan! Logang, keep it up and great photo, HeidiHill, lovely photo, Ruth reads as fun and WW looks chilly for semi-early September. I want that Time magazine, hmm, must have hubby look for it in London. Feeling tired, taught tonight and practiced 74 all afternoon. S&S, you go turkey trotting - that is great!
-
Welcome Wendi. . .Ruth Brrrrr send some of that cold air down here. Lovely photo Heidi. At the gym feeding the Fitbits and fighting leg pain again. I don't know if this is connected to the LE or something else. Will have to up my greentea.
On the bright side, I'm 1.5 weeks into gluten-free, artificial sweeter free and diet coke free diet. I'm guessing the initial solid weight loss will slow down, but hopefully will continue. Less risk of recurrence and less LE.
Scottie

hi all and welcome Wendi! I walk for exercise and it helps my mind and my body. It took several years but I lost the weight I'd gained during chemo. Now I'm still fighting the old stubborn fat but all things considered I'm doing OK.
HeidiHill, gorgeous pic!
Nice cool day, not as crisp as ND. Hats, gloves & shorts LOL. Walked three laps around the park after work.
-
Scottie- sorry you have LE. I have it in both arms and trunk after only sentinel nodes removed. So crazy. I have been gluten free for about 12 years now. It does get easier. I am also currently on a strict anti-inflammatory eating plan and it really helps with swelling and pain. Pretty much just eating meat/fish, veggies, fruit, small amount of nuts and some healthy fats like ghee and olive oil. Drinking water only. Nothing processed, no sugar, dairy, grains, legumes or alcohol. It really does help and comes with a bonus of weight loss. Hope DD and DH are doing ok.
Karen- sending you hugs. Between your DD and your mom, you really do need a good cry.
Mary- I did a 5k this weekend for Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Camp. It was a trail run and I have never run on anything except pavement and track. It was hard to trust my footing. I was afraid I would twist my ankle. My run is slow to begin with but I just went a little slower. I actually did ok.
Welcome, Wendi. This thread is a great motivator.
I finished my LIVESTRONG program at the Y. It was great!I made great progress in my balance, strength and flexibility between my intake and final assessments. I am confident using the weight machines on my own now.
-
Ughhhh had just typed a post and boom it disappeared.
Welcome Wendi. Gorgeous picture Heidi. A little cooler here too but still no sweater yet
Hope your leg is feeling better Scottie. Ginger, great that you notice your strength improvement after the Livestrong program.
Tonight did Body Flow class, LB new class at different gym for my instructor friend so I went along to support her and she did my very favourite from BF70 'Do you remember" I absolutely love that Jarryd James song.
-
Welcome Wendi! Ruth - you all look chilly in your pic! Heidi - beautiful picture. I bet that was a great place to run. Ginger - trail runs are different, aren't they? I've done a few now, and at first I'd be really upset at how much more slow times were, especially since I'm slow under the best of circumstances. But I finally changed my attitude at the last trail race, and decided to take whatever time I need to run safely, and that attitude change made all the difference. I really enjoyed it, and have another trail race on the calendar next month.
Re-entry back to AIs has been a bit rocky. I did OK for a few weeks, but now the insomnia, fatigue, hot flashes, etc. have begun to kick in. I'm having to re-learn all the management tricks I used to use. I haven't run for a week - just no energy - but plan to get a run in this afternoon. I have a follow up appt with my MO late today to discuss my BCI test fully, so I just took an extra hour of leave so I had time to get a run in before my appt.
I have a 5K race Sunday for Ovarian Cancer Awareness. This will be the 6th year we've done the run. We started doing it when a co-worker was dx with Stage IV ovarian cancer and started a team. She miraculously survived for several years, but unfortunately passed away earlier this year. Her family is keeping the team going in her memory, so we'll be there to remember her and honor all those affected by ovarian cancer.
A couple of neighbors dropped by the cabin for a visit this weekend. We've seen this mom and baby cub before, but it's been several weeks and the cub has really grown since then. We grabbed this picture, then scared them off by banging our usual pots and pans, because we don't want them getting used to humans. But it sure was cute!
-
Wow ,Mary. Thats a treat to see How cute.
Welcomw, Wendi.
Heidi, you shocked me for a minute because Lake Zurich is just a few minutes from me. Then I figured out you meant the more famous Lake Zurich How pretty!
Scottie does the diet soda make you swell more? I need to get back on my own eating plan more strictly. I have gone from 80/20 to about 66/33 the last month or so.
Beautiful days here. I have been busy in the evenings but luckily it has been nice enough to walk at lunchtime. I walked 30 yesterday and 41 the day before. Today I only got in 20.
-
Thanks for the all of the warm welcomes, ladies!
Got 45 minutes of walking in yesterday...plan to do the same today. I recently got an Apple watch and I LOVE my activity tracker. Totally keeps me motivated!
-
TH - LOL @ the "more famous" Lake Zurich.
Nice 20 min walk break (7th inning stretch) at work this afternoon. Doing household chores tonight as have supper with mom tomorrow then a family wedding this weekend.
-
Nats...sorry that you are dealing with the side effects again....that's why I refuse to go back on the AI's....3 1/2 years was more than enough for me......I had every side effect except the cardiac....and 3 wrist surgeries...To me QOL is more important than quantity. G-d willing I'll keep staying NED for years to come. Tomorrow is my 6 month check up with my oncologist. So we'll see....
Still not getting my mid day walk in at work....haven't figured out how to get a break (lunch/walk) in or do paperwork. I truly like my new assignment but as one of the other gals in the same position said "we are like chickens with our heads cut off".
Enjoying the cool morning and evenings....makes the 80's easier to take....wore my clogs twice this week, but back to my sandals today....till it gets too cold for them during the heat of the day, staying in sandals.
Speaking of walks...best go for my evening walk before it gets dark out.
-
Two Hobbies. . .the diet coke definitely has too much sodium in it and the artificial sweetners.I have notice some less swelling since I stopped it, but the could be the new diet as a whole. My kidneys are certainly happy wit out the coke. Ginger, thanks for the info. I'm glad to here that the diet helps. We'll see what the LE therapis has to say tomorrow.
I drank lots of green tea today and leg pain is gone again. My legs were swollen yesterday so maybe that's also the LE. Uggh
Exercise today was only a pre-lunch walk. About 1.5 miles. Need to do better than that.

I subbed 6th grade science today (and also will tomorrow & Monday for a teacher whose daughter is getting married over the weekend). BUSY! 6th graders are goofy (in a way I like), but you have to be on your toes (and feet) every minute to make it work (especially when you are the sub, not the 'real teacher'). I did Dance Attack & yoga tonight.
What cute bears you have, Mary!
-
Hi All! Able to communicate from the lake!😃 Got the cable and wifi today!
Badger I don't want to even try the pretzel m&ms cause a new obsession I don't need!😃
Yesterday I did my Pilates class and then drove to lake and surprised my DD at the Y here and did her Barre class!!! She was speechless when she saw me so fun! I must saw she is a good teacher and I am sore today!
Welcome Wendy this is a great group!
I am trying to get the eating under control after spending most of the summer nauseous I am suddenly starving!
-
realized that the pants I generally wear once a week to work are too tight...sigh...it has been a tough few weeks for me. but, the good news is that I am leaving on a long vacation Sunday! I plan to walk, and swim and maybe even get in some scuba. Here at home, the weather is turning gorgeous. Of course, since I am leaving (not that you all will feel sorry for me).
Welcome, Wendi.
Today my walking consisted of going from the parking lot to office and back again. the only good news is that it is several blocks, not right next door...
Octogirl
-
Octo, scuba diving sounds great! I sort of hate to be away from home too when the weather is nice; even if I am doing something really fun!
Here is a new picture of my grandpuppy & walking partner:
-
OMG Mary what cute bears you have. Love your adorable grand puppy Ruth. PlanB I'll bet your behind is sore tomorrow, those barre classes really work the behind.
Tonight did Body Combat, then on the way home stopped at El Pollo Loco to get something for dinner got in my car and boom it was dead, of course my AAA card is in my purse which is at home cause I don't take it to the gym called around and my Hannah happened to be on her way home from school so she came by and picked me up, looked up what the lights on my dashboard signified when I got home, went back, still not starting so I unscrewed the gas cap and rescrewed it back on on and voila tha car started (that was one of the tips I had read - what ever did we do before the Internet) -
Clever of you Cheryl and who would have thunk a gas cap disabled your car. DH recently fixed tumble dryer via looking up code on internet; those online code tips Mary, love the photo and sorry the Al SE's are back you've got the right attitude and experience to manage it. Ruth, cute grandpuppy. Morning is cooler than the last few as we were have a heatwave here in SE England. Hips are slightly ouchy due to 74 practice and in the gym for more hours practice this afternoon. Bought light resistance tubes to add to Pink Pilates workout next week and one new lady came along wearing her LE sleeve. The other regular sleeve wearer offered understand and tips on LE management and our new member knew she found her tribe as it said it all by the grin on her face.
Have a terrific start to the weekend everyone!
-
PlanB - sounds like you're getting settled in at the lake. What a fun surprise for your DD! Octogirl - have a wonderful vacation! Ruth - awwwwww! Love the grandpuppy. Lilac - your post made me realize that not only does your Pink Pilates program provide physical support for survivors, but provides then an emotionally supportive "home" as well. Your new participant has probably been feeling isolated and strange, especially have to wear a sleeve, and then here she comes to your class and finds a whole group of people who know exactly what she's going through.
Our 55+ community is celebrating its 50th anniversary all week, so the calendar has been chock full of events. We went to a cocktail party Wednesday night, then went to a concert last night. Tonight is fireworks!
Sir Nubs showed up for a visit - I took this out our living room window yesterday evening. He's starting to lose the velvet off his antlers now.
-
Oh sweet!
Another very busy, fun day with the 6th graders (already 8,000 steps by the time I left the school). When I got home I took a little walk. I may (or may not) do a few abs when I sign off & then plan to sit around and do nothing!
-
Its been a long, long week. And today a long and wearing day. I had my 6 month check up with my oncologist, just waiting on lab results for confirmation of NED. He always offers me to go back on AI's, now he says, no there is nothing new and if you want to go back on them, call me!! He knows me well!!
Then took my mother to her appt with her pcp. She is so sad and angry with her health issues and there is nothing that can be done. She was depressed when she left. I had a missed call from her and when I called her back, she said she didn't call, and she didn't want to talk. My oldest daughter calls her every week and also said she didn't sound good. I haven't called me Mom again since I called mid afternoon....feel bad, but I need a break. I will go over on Sunday.
Getting my steps in...even more than my fitbit says as I had to charge it when I was vacuuming.
Shabbat dinner is cooked......Just sitting enjoying a class of wine until candle lighting in about 50 minutes. Have a good Saturday. Be back tomorrow night!
-
Oh Karen I'm so sorry, depression is so hard on everyone (((HUG))). Mary you certainly attract all the wildlife. LB how wonderful that your PP ladies have found each other, small but mighty tribe
Well my car didn't start this morning (yes I tried the gas tank trick again but it didn't work a second time) so got it to my mechanic and it needed a new starter motor, it's all fixed now and my wallet is lighter or rather my credit card bill is higher!!!
Did Body Pump tonight plus the gym got a couple of those tread climbers and I did 15 minutes on it, it was a weird feeling at first but it was a pretty good workout.
-
45 minutes of toning & a little walk & house cleaning......
-
hi all, back from a weekend wedding. Pretty outdoor setting and picture-perfect day. Had to drive a few miles back to the hotel so stayed sober and didn't stay late for the dance so was up early for a nice morning walk.
-
30 minutes express Body Pump, CX Works and 30 minute RPM followed by Body Flow, was at the gym for hours but it felt fabulous. Yesterday did 30 minutes of Body Combat - had to leave, I had a shower before I went to the gym but forgot to put deodorant on OMG if I didn't leave when I did I would have been that person that everybody talked about
-
Oh my,Badger I bet it was perfect for a wedding. Gorgeous weather here, too I saw a couple taking wedding photos at the lake yesterday. I wish it could stay year round.
Today I mowed my front yard-45 minutes. Then I also walked my dog 25 minutes. Yesterday I walked 37 minutes with my son around one lake and then later took my dog around another lake and walked 33 more. It is just so nice that I dont want to come indoors!
-
Badger I also just returned from a beautiful wedding! So I got a little dancing in!
Cheryl yes I was a bit sore on Friday! It was worth it though!
Did some walking and house cleaning.
I hope this weather stays
-
Went to an engagement party tonight... I was the only one past 40 (never mind past 50 or 60)!!! I am old enough to be the parent of many of the people there. I know one of the partners from 10 or 11 years ago....he taught my youngest daughter Hebrew when she was in grade two. He now lives in Israel. I ran into him this past summer when I was in Tel Aviv... I was walking on the boardwalk looking for the bathroom and turned around and he was there. So happy for this couple. One of the gals there went to high school with my older daughter. I introduced myself to her, just my first name and she said I went to school with Leah.
Its getting harder to walk in the dark mornings, but I need to push myself to do so.....at least on the week-ends I can walk at 8:00 but during the work week, I need to walk around 6 or 6:15 at the latest...I don't mind the cooler weather, but I do prefer walking in the light!!
Sweet dreams..

Did NYC and now in Boston. Miss my weights and crunches. However, I have been walking 7-9 miles per day, plus lots and lots of stairs. I can tell you that dragging a suitcase up and down subway stairs is wonderful exercise! Everyone has been marveling at how fit I look.
Did 4 reservoir runs while in NYC so back in the swing of things that way. Will try to do this on Wednesday with the pond in Wayland, as my friend I will be staying with isn't exactly into exercise. So sneaking off for a run that AM will set me up for the day.
I ended up going from NYC to Boston via Boltbus. Dirt cheap, and getting to the "terminal" was quite the adventure. Hudson Docks neighborhood of NYC (formerly Hell's Kitchen) is quite the up-and-coming place. Lots of buildings going up. I got to go to The Cloisters and see the collection of medieval art. Plus the view of the Hudson. We took the bus there, and so sad to see all the untouched crumbly buildings in West Harlem. I was lucky to make it to Boston on the faulty bus which stopped twice, but fortunately got restarted.
Staying in an artists' community just outside Downtown Boston. Really interesting and right on the T. I got to channel Daniel Webster, as had dinner at the Union Oyster House last night. Today, I will do the Gardner Museum and traipse around Harvard Square. Fun seeing my old haunts. Beacon Hill is as fabulous as ever.
I need to catch up on work email, but not ready to. Then off for something tasty prior to hitting Harvard Square. Also want to walk Back Bay. Somehow, I am thinking PLENTY of walking on tap for today.
But miss the cool temps of Seattle. And I did notice the pollution in NYC. Lots of cycling this coming weekend. Then, I think more consulting work in the offing as I rejoin my former business partner. Fascinating times. - Claire

Ran a 5K for Ovarian Cancer awareness Sunday on a team in memory of a co-worker. It was a hot sticky day - 80 degrees at race time - yuk! But it was a worthy cause, and we wouldn't miss it for the world. Here's DH and me:
