Hi My Name Is ...

I go through spurts when I indulge in wine, and lately I've been having a glass with dinner. When it's gone it'll be a while before I buy again, so I keep myself under control that way. I also have been following a low carb lifestyle.
Kindergarten great job on losing weight!
-
Hi, Tenaj and ARCats!! Thank you for your encouragement!! Wine is good for the heart, ARCats😃😃!!!
Hi, Tammy!!
-
Kathy, get weight loss!
ARCats, yes, best not to have temptation around....unfortunately, I love carbs AND sugar......😉
-
I love carbs and sugar and somehow there is a box of peanut M&Ms in my room. First bit of sun yesterday spring has sprung ventured into backyard in bikinis....not too bad taking into consideration the year of cancer treatment but not beach ready yet. Training well in the gym time to clean up diet and I mean really clean it up. Training well in gym joined my old circuit class on Friday and went better than I thought I would. Some pain issues to work through but I'll keep working through. I get discouraged sometimes but there is always someone there to help me.
Have a great week lovely ladies.
-
Hi, Tammy and Cinque!! Carbs and sugar , my downfall as well!! We can do it!!!
-
Cinque, great stuff! I hear you about needing to clean up the diet......starting tomorrow
-
Hi Ladies, I hope everyone is haviing a great week. Cinque you are doing so well!! Sweets are so tough because they seem to have my name and keep calling me.....But I haven't been listening and weight watchers is working. I am accountable for what I am eating. As my friend told me, you can't say "I can't have it" You just have to give everything point value. I am down 3 lbs so far and I am in my 3rd week. I have a way to go, but I am positive about this life change in my eating. Be well and enjoy life!
-
Hooray, TenaJ!! You are awesome!

Hi, my name is Mary. I worked very hard to lose 25 lbs from January to April of this year. On April 25th, I noticed some breast "issues". I spent the next 4 months having multiple tests, biopsies, and three surgeries. Each time came activity restrictions. Walking (about 4 miles on most days) or working out at Wellness Center had helped to keep my depression away. When I can't work out, I settle for the next "best" thing for my mood, chocolate. So, I've regained about 20 lbs. I've decided to get back to my more fit lifestyle. My activity is restricted again due to a sentinel biopsy two days ago, but I did go out for a short one mile walk this morning and have eaten only healthy food so far today. Planning to take baby steps!

Weight Watchers is a great program. Your friend is wonderful to support you...she is so right all you have to say is you cant have it. So many times we dont pause to think about what we are eating. Keep going Tenaj.
Hi Mary Im sorry your having a bad run with tests and surgeries. They are very disruptive to say the least. Keeping weight under control and exercising is so important for mind and body. Its so discouraging at times and there are times you are limited but seize the days when you can manage something. Walking is wonderful and a real mood enhancer. You probably interacted with positive people at the wellness centre. Get yourself back there you need these people in your life to lift your spirits.
Congratulations on losing weight earlier this year...you've done it once you know how you will find a way to do it again. xxx
-
Hi, Mary!! Welcome to this wonderful thread!! You will get lots of support and encouragement here! You have had a lot on your plate. As Cinque said, you will lose again, baby steps! We are here to cheer you on!
-
Hello Mary! Walking is a great exercise and a great start to get you back on track.
Janet, wonderful result!
I'm regularly paddling but the diet still needs some work....I'll keep working on it😉
-
Hi Mary (minmom24) ~ I can identify with your experience. Starting about two years ago, I worked hard to lose about 28 pounds. Plus, exercising and being at a healthier weight helped with keeping depression at bay. Since dealing with this go-round of treatment for breast cancer, I have gained some of the weight back. I'm still exhausted from radiation so my activity level is dismal. I'm thrilled if I can get the laundry done, let alone anything else. O joy.
For exercise I am walking, starting with very, very short walks and hoping to build up to long ones. When I'm better I hope to get back to strength training. For keeping me on track with food, I am using the free USDA Food Tracker. I find I am never hungry when I stick with it, and I am getting a more balanced diet.
Also, taking anastrozole has given me a flair-up of GERD, which I have not had since I went through menopause about 16 years ago. This means I am avoiding the essential vitamin C, by which I mean chocolate. This is in my best interest. I suppose. Maybe. Hmm. Maybe not; nothing seems as comforting as chocolate. Yeah. Chocolate is fattening. Um. Well. Uh, gotta go now . . . must search cupboards . . . .
-
I made a deal with my surgeon to lose 10lbs in 6 months. I've lost 5 so far by counting calories again. I haven't gotten back into my normal workout pre surgery, I just keep having more so my upper body isn't what it used to be, nor am I as fast.
We shall see if I can lose the other 5.
-
Blinkie, you made me laugh! Thank you! I've been known to search for chocolate as well. I appreciate all the responses. It was a good day today. My smart phone had been giving me trouble, and my husband decided to take me out to buy a new one last evening. It came with a fitness app that I immediately started using. I rediscovered my will to do this! Every time that I wanted to indulge with something not so good for me, I took a drink of water. I'm up to 10 cups for today. This coming week may be trying emotionally for me. I have 4 doctor's appointments, and I'll be getting pathology results back from my latest surgery. Hopefully, I can get the go-ahead for more than just walking. Then I think I should make an appointment with the exercise specialist at our wellness center for a new plan. I don't think chest presses and rowing would be very comfortable right now.
-
HI, Blinkie, Chocolate is my downfall! I am buying the dark chocolate now, but darn not quite as tasty as the milk chocolate 😃😃
Unbreakable, you will domit😃🙏😃🙏
Mary, I love sipping the water idea for cravings! Thank you!!
-
Oh I had to laugh, too, Mary (minmom24), at your drinking 10 cups of water in one day as a way to avoid having something not good for you. That is a lot of avoiding! Too funny. I'm glad you shared about it and I think I will try this technique.
Kindergarten, are you eating dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate for a reason? It's better for us? Or are you just feeling like being ornery to yourself? I like the dark. I like hot chocolate with unsweetened cocoa and cinnamon - no sugar.
Here's hoping we all get good news at our appointments next week and that, if we don't, we find the courage we need to deal with everything.
-
Chocolate is definitely important in recovery but the dose is critical! Less is more applies here...like small amounts of dark chocolate 😉
(((Hugs)))
-
Blinkie, my doc says dark chocolate is better for your heart and contains less sugar, but yes small amounts is better!!
Hugs to you, Tammy!!!

Hello friends new & old. This is a very supprotive group of ladies that share similar experiences, you are not alone and we share similar pains , fears and challenges. This group has helped me through some tough times. I am clear 5 years now and still have some struggles, not so much with the BC now as with other issues and the need for weight loss. I am starting my 4th week today of weight watchers, my weigh is in 4.4lbs in 3 weeks!! I'm keeping this going!! I have not really deprived myself, just being accountable for everything. Not picking while I'm cookng, they do count as points!!! I have also given up the snacks and my body is adjusting because I am not having the same cravings, GREEN TEA daily is a natural diueretic!! Good luck everyone and have a great week. Small walks build up to longer walks.......stay positive
-
Hooray, Tenaj!! You are awesome and an inspiration!! Weight Watchers is the best!
-
Welcome Mary and Blinkie, and hello to everyone else.
For me I've started my own crazy system. I've been writing everything from fat grams, calories, carbs, sodium that I'm eating and its really helped me to know and be more conscious of my food intake. I may just do this for a few more weeks to get a handle on the food and maybe tweak my menu because it has helped me. I just have to figure out how to handle the cravings I get on the weekend??????
Good luck
-
Hi, ARCats! Writing down what you eat is such a good plan! It keeps you accountable!! I know, what is it about the weekends, that makes us want to snack all the time? I have read that on many diets, you are allowed to have one cheat day!! 🎉🎉
-
Kindergarten,
Thanks for that one day! Now I have to figure out what to do with the other day. HMMM!!
-
Hey, ARCats, today is my cheat day!! I am snacking with my granddaughter ! You are right, I have to remember, just one cheat day!! 😂😂
-
Hi ladies,
I am joining this group in hopes of developing another source of motivation for improving my health. I am 6 years out from diagnosis and treatment (yay!) and still cancer free. But, thanks to treatment, middle age, a love of junk food, bad knee joints and some other cranky body parts exercise and healthy eating feel like impossibilities. At this time my son and I are counting steps and putting money into a vacation fund depending on our walking success. But oh my, I can't stick to my goals. So, here we go. My goal tomorrow is 5,000 steps which will include one fast paced dog walk
-
Welcome, JFV!!! You will love this thread, so many lovely ladies here, who will support and encourage you!! We all have the same goals!! You and your son will do great!!😃
-
Welcome JFV☺ You've set yourself a target and thats a great start. Now pick the time of day thats best for you and then at that time no excuses get your stuff and just go. Before you know it it will become a habit and you will feel so much better. Dont become discouraged if you dont see immediate weight loss your bones and heart and joints will appreciate your effort. The weight loss will come....just so annoying how long it takes.
Make sure you post tomorrow once you've done the steps....I'll be checking!!!
-
JFV welcome! I count steps and find an early morning walk works best for me.
If I go first thing I'm not distracted from my exercise and I can achieve my goal. I've been counting steps for many years now and as soon as I wake I'm ready to walk!
-
Hi JFV and welcome. I am also from Long Island and this time of year is such a wonderful time to walk. You can do it!! I am 5 1/2 years cancer free also. I just saw my oncologist for my yearly and all my tumor markers are normal!! Yay!! I do understand about getting older and body parts don't work quite the same. The first step is to acknowledge what you want to do. Then embrace it!! Walk for small walks and they will become longer walks and it all adds up to the fact that you are doing something positive for yourself. Good Luck!!
