As you may have noticed, I LOVE to bake but it has to taste good because if it doesn't, it isn't worth the calories. I got the cake recipe off that same site I posted a little while ago. It is the chocolate cake and peppermint frosting. I changed it and didn't put the peppermint bark on and instead ground up some candy canes I had. If you are watching your weight, don't even look at it because I think just reading the recipe will cause you to gain a pound. :)

I wish I could send each and every one of you some baked goodies. :) Maybe someday when the kids are grown and I have some free time.

Karen...what a moving story. It certainly does put things into perspective. What a wonderful thing you did for her!

Allison...thanks for the recipes and pics...love the holiday spirit...and I'm drooling...think I can almost taste that cake!

I am not a cook or baker...but try my best. Made chocolate chip cookies with my daughter from scratch yesterday, which is quite an accomplishment coming from me! They actually tasted pretty good. Going to attempt crinkle cookies with my son today...wish me luck!

Alan & I are going shopping for x'mas & x'mas eve dinner today. We are making homemade tortellini in meat broth (anyone who shows up early gets to help fold pasta!), a fabulous lasagna with meat sauce that cooks for hours, mushroom risotto for our vegans, and a few veg sides. X'mas eve is at my house as Alan's kitchen remodel may be still a work in progress. Making some sort of fish - depends on what looks good at the market. Something easy because we will be making thew lasagna ahead & that's a huge production. Kelli used to bake a zillion cookies for the holidays - but she has a final today (really?) and doesn't get in until tonight. Some relatives bring pies from the store every year. I think we are having 15ish people.

These are what we've done so far this week. I say "we", but my girls have done more work than me.

I really wish I had the energy (and desire) to bake. I used to like baking for the holidays but this year I'm just not feeling it. The respiratory 'crud' has made its way through my house and my DD is the last to be dealing with it. I asked yesterday if she wanted to bake something and she just said 'no' and went back to bed. I guess that's the end of that!

Looking good, T! That's a lot of hair.

Allison the cookies are fabulous! As is the kitchen. Thanks for the recipes. I just want to sit down with a fork and two guard dogs and belly up into the cake!

Love all the other recipes too! Thanks everyone!

We just had an amazing show of nature here. I guess she was boring herself to death with rain so we got a big wind, rain, and thunder show followed by hail. A bit larger than pea-size.

    All very exciting:

I think I have only seen hail like that once in my life. It wasn't that long ago.

BTW, I think my lashes might be going again. Has that happened to anyone else?

I lost my lashes one time, but mostly it's my right eyebrow that waxes and wanes.

    Nice hair, Theresa!

Katy, we got a little slush at elevation this morning, but nothing interesting.

Allison, I lost my eyelashes twice. This second time around they are coming back extremely slowly. I mean I have plenty of them by now, but very short. Might be due to Herceptin.

Also, right now I'm in Schaumburg so I could get by your house in 1/2-1 hour to sample the cookies and the cake.

:) We actually thought about trying the cake last night before the party but that would be wrong….right? lol

left llower lashes in the corner keep falling out. I figure it will take time for them to get under control.

We are doing a family brunch tomorrow and I got wild smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, purple onions, tomatoes, bagels, lemons and crackers. Drooling, want to eat it now! I guess my Jewish grandmas side came out in me lol. But it was all I could think of since I have a Herceptin infusion tomorrow morning before the family party and won't be able to cook.

I may keep my hair short, I like it. And Ksusan, I never see your hair because I can't ever get by looking at your rosy cheeks in your photos! I'm letting my hair get shaggy so I can cut off all the crappy chemo hair. And am thankful it came back, unlike some people who don't get their hair back. Or women who get male pattern baldness...that would totally suck!

Allison, next time I come to Chicago, probably in the spring, I'm gonna put you on notice so I can come eat some of your yummy stuff! I say sample the cake early!

T - the Jewish girl in me wants to get in the car and drive to So Cal right now!!!

I've also considered keeping my hair short. Not this shaggy, curly, mullet but back to a sophisticated, sleek super short cut like it was before the fuzzies started. But then I know I love my long hair so I talk myself out of cutting it. I'm so conflicted!

Bekah, totally with you. I figure I will wait and cut off the damaged chemo hair and evaluate. I can't stand the floppy little curly areas above my ears right now, but I know I have to let that part grow to get by a short boy cut. Totally sucks though

Thanks, Theresa. I'm torn in the other direction--I'm curious how these curls would grow out, but I'm very likely to cut it before I get an answer.

I have a friend and you take a cake to her house and she eats a piece right away. I took her some of the cupcakes I had left on our way to lunch and she ate one before lunch. I LOVE that about her.

Ok, just to give you a glimpse into my next 3 days, my husband picked up my MIL and she came in the door crying because it is hard for her to get around. I said hello and welcome and she said nothing. She parked in a chair at the kitchen table and said nothing to me (not hello, not how are you, not oh, you have hair….for about 30 minutes. She then proceeded to tell me about her neighbor who, you guessed it…has cancer. Then she didn't say anything and is reading all our magazines but stopped to ask for a bite of my cookie and tell us she is hungry for dinner at 4:45. :)

nothing is getting cut again for at least a month so we will see what I look like by then. Probably a mop haha. If it decides to get curly I am going to embrace it, maybe Barbara Streisand it for awhile, as she looked when she was younger. I have an aunt with curly wiry hair and she re-curls it on large rods so the tiny curls are big curls instead. And yes I still have my hot rollers from back in the day so those could get called into service again

Waiting on echo test for Herceptin treatment. Can't they give this crap a break for the holidays?

    imageGreat hair, Theresa.

I'm finally starting to bake and lo and behold, our resident Great Horned Owl has taken up his sentry post in the trees along our driveway. The light is fading now so I couldn't get a picture but I did snap one looking across the valley from our back door. I'll see if I can attach it. Moonrise across the valley.

Allison, sounds like my mom came to see you! Except she would have also told you how her woes are so much worse than what you are going through. Had a family get together for the death of my daughter's father in law, guess who did all the cooking and cleaning? Yep, the one with cancer who went through chemo while all the "family members" sat on their asses. And two of the women had the nerve to walk in the kitchen after I had already done a bazillion dishes and say sorry we didn't help, is there anything we can do? What is up with people?

I wanna come have a margarita and coffee and everything you guys are doing! Planning a Chicago weekend trip probably in the spring. Maybe we can all get together? And eat cake...and cookies....and shop for shoes...and....

Avmom, your picture post makes me want hot chocolate, fuzzy slippers, and a chat with a good friend. Wish I could be there.

Here's my next hairstyle if the curls keep coming.

Theresa your hair loos so luscious!

I'm so jealous of all you bakers! I'm not a great cook. I think it's more because I'm not interested in it.

I can't believe it's Xmas again. I went food shopping with my mum today in the same shop we were in last year. I remember how numb I was. Just trying to get through Christmas.

Katy can we Skype tomorrow??? I'll try you.

Merry Christmas everyone. Love you all.

If I can break free based on kids' events, I'd be up for a Chicagoland meeting.

Allison, since brows and lashes get reset to all the same place in the growth cycle, it's common for them to fall out again once or twice as part of their normal growth cycle. And... Since we finished chemo the same day, as you could guess, mine are falling out too. It drives me crazy that I keep getting lashes in my eyes! I know they'll grow back quickly this time
