Cute kittens! Ok, feel-good rescue story. A woman saw a post for free kittens - 4 weeks old. She notified Kitten Inn, and also notified another friend (male friend). She and the friend went to the nasty gang house and got the kittens. They wouldn't give up the mom cat, sadly. A call went out to the KI volunteers to get the kittens ASAP as they weren't in good shape. One could pick them up, but couldn't take them all the way to KI, so she drove part way, met another volunteer, and the kittens got to KI in under an hour. They were put in with a momcat who has a baby the same age, and so far so good. New babies on the right in the picture. Don't be put off by the "jail" - it's a huge dog crate.

    More kitten porn... :)

This momma is so good with her babies. When they wander off, she brings them back. However, they've gotten so big, she can barely lift them. But they do all love a good snuggle with mom.

This kitty had her babies about 2 hours after arriving at the KI. Susan, who runs KI, said they were the smallest babies she'd ever seen. In this photo, they are six days old, but about the size of a one day old kitten. All are doing well, however!

I agree Feline! I love the tortie momma. But I've got a real soft spot for torts.

The tortie momma is stunning. I started to type "tortie" and realised I had typed "tittie". Must be because it's a boob-related thread.

This kitty is such a good mom. Her babies are getting huge and she's amazingly patient with them. She's just buried in kittens!

I used to own a cat with my old roomate. I'd love to get a cat but my husband is allergic to them.

The cat that got me through my cancer treatments was a tortie. I finished treatment in June 2014 and she died in August. 2014 Rapid lymphoma.....I didn't see it. I said never again, got rid all the kitty supplies and toys, and then in November, adopte4d Esmerelda. God must have turned my steering wheel into the Petco for 3 days before I decided to adopt her....I had zero business in the pet store as I had no critters at all......

Cute story Redheaded! I have said never again too after our tortie died 2 years ago. She too was "nurse Kitty" She didn't leave my side (other than for essentials) when I had my BMX. Laid on the side of the bed & whenever I would move she would come up & make sure I was ok.

Kiwi hah I think the tortie has mammary business too with all those nursing babies. Maybe it wasn't a BC related Freudian slip...

Love the description of God and the steering wheel Redheaded

rushjackson sorry to hear of your cat-less state but of course you have to consider your hubby. My DS had cat allergies (I had cats before he ever existed) I took him to a homeopath who treated him and improved the allergies. Didn't make them totally go away but the reaction is so much less. However our situation was different in that I already had the cats. After many cat years we were then 2 years without cats after the last of my old girls died and when Arthur sashayed into our lives DS did have a bit of short flare up, but it settled down very soon Thank God. However I don't think we could ever have large numbers of cats while DS is still at home. (He is 19 so future independence beckons...)

Here is a mean thing I did to my non-animal loving SIL many years ago; we had two cats already when I became pregnant. She rather sharply asked what was I going to do if the baby turned out to allergic to cats? I gave her a mournful look and said, "Oh, I surely hope not. It would be so sad if we would have to give the baby up for adoption!" I don't know if she was ever sure if I had been kidding or not.

so true. We're down 1, had to put the old lady to sleep. It was her time, she was 15 and couldn't eat anymore. And no, I'm not getting someone else to replace her

RuthND- How funny your comment about the SIL and new baby! People that were not raised with animals do not "get it." They see only the expense, hair, bother and responsibility of pet ownership. They do not see the companionship, love, amusement and bonding between creatures who are "family/ pack members." I remember being fiercly loyal and in love with my little foundling -Higgins. I found this Maine Coon cat kitten, tan colored and white on a walk while in college in (upstate NY). Mother cat had kittens under a porch of a weather beaten miserable house and I don't know who I felt more sorry for, the people who lived there or the cat and kittens under the porch. I brought him home. He was too young to be away from his Mom 6 weeks, flea ridden. I had to comb off the fleas by hand, let him pee and poo in a pie tin with litter, he was so little. He was basically hand fed and carried in my pocket for weeks and weeks. Room mates played cuddled held and loved on him. This turned him into the friendliest people oriented, HUGE 16 pound cat ever. He played fetch like a dog, came when called and gave head butts that were so hard they made your eyes water! When my DH and I were dating Higgy hated him. He was green with envy and would sit across the room eyes black and peeved - get your own girl this one is mine! DH did everything he could to "win" his affection and finally did. One day years later my DH asked if he hadn't won over Higgins would I have gotten rid of him? I stared at him; it took me ages to stutter a reply. "Well luckily no one needed to choose sides you got along! " How politically correct... cause I really really LOVED that cat!

These are very old pictures so excuse the quality. I looked in my photo album and Higgins as a baby was posted as 4-5 weeks old. Crazy cute. Then 4 years later a picture on our wedding day. He looks fat but wasn't just scrunched up and glare from the shiny finish of the photo. The last picture he was a old man regal and posing - taking up the entire chair. When I took the picture out of the frame there were tuffs of his fur laid out under the picture. My little shrine to him in my life.

Higgins had very long hair on his tail, tuffs of hair sticking out of his toesand ears, and much longer hair on his tummy. He was wonderful. Since we lived alone the 2 of us for quite a while, he was my buddy. Coming home to a warm bundle of love. He would cry at the door of my apartment when he heard my steps up the stairs (4th foor apt no elevator). It was like hearing" Meow Mom is that you??? Mom??" Then I got mauled when I walked in and sat down! It was lovely. Whoever said cats aren't friendly never had one and loved them back.

    What a handsome cat!

Here is one more mean story about my poor SIL (who, except for her dislike of animals, is actually a very nice person). One holiday they were visiting our house and we were all eating dinner in the dining room.....which is pretty small, so after passing the food around I put the platters/bowls etc, back on the kitchen counter. SIL's chair was facing toward the kitchen and we were eating away when she randomly asks, "Do you let your cats jump up on the kitchen counter?" And I said, "Yes, there is really no way to keep them off it." Then she says, "Do you also let them eat out of the serving dishes?" I look in the kitchen and there where the very bad cats up on the counter enjoying the turkey, gravy etc. right from the serving dishes. I guess after my baby comment, she probably expected me to say "Yes"......I don't believe she had seconds that night!

I wasn't sure about putting an old picture like that in here but it shows how long he was. He went from my shoulders to my hips, long and muscular. The vet said he was Maine coon or a mix, large size, tufts of fur inbetween his toes, crazy fluffy tail and long dense under coat of soft fur. I never had any problem getting people to watch him because he was so much fun. Once they realized he played fetch like a dog, came when called, cuddled and plastered himself on anyones lap - everyone offered to kitty sit. My Dad hated cats and loved Mr. Higgins - who loved him too. I will have to post my current furballs. I have 3 - one for each of my kids.
