Exercise and well being during chemo and radiation

Welcome, PowerPortGirl! You will start to come back. You're doing great. Keep walking, and remember everything counts. In your case even the "exercise" of lifting spoon to mouth. Since you're trying to gain weight. Haha. I have to skip that one
-
In theory, my lovely wife will join me for Zumba today. My BS affirms: No waving my arms around or putting a lot of muscle stress on my trunk. Fine. Just happy to be in motion.
-
IMHO, ALL THE MORE REASON FOR TWERK TRAINING. A lot can be done not waving your arms and instead shaking up the junk in the trunk, as you say.
-
ksusan so glad for scar tissue. I will take all the scar tissue they want to give me as long as it doesn't turn to cancer again.
OMG Katy, just thought the same thing roflmao. Hula dancing also comes to mind. Or the hoola hoop. Last time I tried to do one, I couldn't even go around like 3 times before it fell.
ksusan, I've been to Zumba, and half the people are lost in space, hopelessly trying to do the moves. So whenever they do something you can't, just do the robot or moonwalk or something lol. I bet nobody even notices.
-
I have tried Zumba and was always behind, but who cares. Exercise is exercise! With my new boobs, I think I think I will wait awhile! For now, adding miles to walking. Started PT this week to begin weights and range of motion.
-
25 mile bike ride today. Then I ate some popcorn, sigh. I hate it when I do that.
-
Ksusan, yay for scar tissue. Whew!!!!!!!
-
Yeah...as usual, I'm running my mouth. Had an op-ed published this morning in Truthout. Will you all help by reading and considering sharing it among your correspondents? Thanks a bunch.

Awesome!
What have all of you without LE been told about when to wear sleeves a/o gauntlets prophylactically? My PT is hedging a little.
-
Last time I saw my PT she said standard of care was to sleeve and gauntlet up every waking moment, prophylacticly. Um, yeah. I don't do that.
Also, can you get your lump biopsies for peace of mind? Hate to see you concerned!
-
NObody in my cancer care group's mentioned lymphedema to me...much less prophylactic sleeving. I suppose I could be glad.

my breast surgeon said wear a ring that fits, don't worry. If ring gets tight or I feel a puffiness around my pec muscle in my armpit that is different than the other armpit, let her know. So I don't worry, do everything normally. I sometimes get an achy feeling which I told her about, and she said that is from the surgery, takes up to two years for complete healing. So far my rings have fit unless I gorge on salty popcorn or something bad, but then my ring just feels a little tight, but it did that before surgery too.
I also flew to Chicago and back, no sleeve or anything and was worried, but did fine. I think the return flight is 4 and 1/2 hours. Sounds like we are all told different things. My surgeon specializes in breast surgery, so I'm going to trust her.
I had three nodes removed, but I read the risk is there with no nodes, just from surgery.
-
A few months ago - spring I guess - I flew to SF and had swelling. I had 2 upcoming flights so I got fitted for a sleeve to wear for flying. When I went to SF again 2 weeks ago I didn't wear it and was fine. I probably will wear it if I'm doing long flights just in case.
In terms of exercise I've been a slacker but did take the dog on our favorite 2.25 mile walk around the lake today.
-
Thank you! I've attempted a few yoga-esque moves today (not sure if that's really a word, but it works for me) and I will try to walk this weekend when it's supposed to be warmer. I've noticed that my muscles ache since treatment, more than they used to. I hope it will improve with time. Meanwhile, I think I will stretch some more and watch The Great Pumpkin :-)

Beautiful!
10/28: Fitbit steps + stretches + Zumba = 6.82 miles
10/29: Fitbit steps + stretches + Zumba = 6.67 miles
Thanks for the sleeve opinions. When I have a little time, I'll share what my BS and PT have said this week. However, right now I'm going to enjoy a real Sudafed and see if it knocks down my ear pain.

Sloth-lmfao!
Ksusan, hot avatar! Just a sweet....
Zip for excercise today. Got genetic testing so hopefully will see results soon! Drove to town so I can fly to AZ tomorrow to check out some Mexican food, red rocks, and archeology for the weekend. In costume. What are everyone else's haloween plans?
-
I'm gearing up for our zombie prom this weekend. Ill be sporting a tux since I'm flat in front and generally not the prom dress type. Also have a prosthetic neck wound with exposed trachea... I predict a non-traditional Sunday selfie this week!

An ensemble of skeletal representations.
-
Sloth-love that t shirt!
-
-
Uh oh, they left her in the linear accelerator too long!
Fabulous!!
-
'Tis the season. I'm Red the Russian lady from Orange is the New Black, aka the fat pumpkin on the right. I'm not as fat as this outfit makes me look though, just to disclaim. My friend Cheryl that I ride with is the blonde in the middle.
-
Theresa- you don't look fat. You don't look real happy to have your picture taken in orange scrubs, tho. Can't say I blame you. But you are beautiful.
-
I was trying to look stern but failed lol. They asked me to do Red because I could spike my hair out, so I complied even though I don't usually do this kind of thing.
Next year I want to be in Portland with Sloth doing the Thriller thing - that's my kind of party!
-
I have done 6 days of Jazz in a row. My previous record was 3, I think.
-
Fabulous costumes ladies
-
I love the costumes, ksusan and italychick. And sloth - that T-shirt is on my Christmas list!! The first thing I noticed, once my breast was deflated, was that I could see my stomach again. Then....I realized I could see my stomach again *cringe* -and with mismatched boobs and no hair, what's to keep all eyes from my gut and butt? ;-) quite humorous!!
-
10/30: Fitbit steps + stretches +50 biceps hand weights + 20 modified military press + 150 crunches + 50 dead bugs + 15# lifts [10x3] + 15# lunges & 5 squats [10x1] + 60 sec full yoga plank = 2.0 miles
-
Flew to Phoenix, drove to Sedona, did a 4 mile trail run which ended in the dark, walked 3 miles in search of food. Wow. I love the desert so much! Love it here!
