Has anyone ever heard of Cat Cafes? I had no idea they existed. This is what I found out... and will post a few photos in between...
Cat cafes had their origin in Taiwan, with one opening in Taipei in 1998. The cafe became popular with Japanese tourists as well as local visitors,
who enjoyed the opportunity to interact with some furry friends. One of the Japanese tourists took the idea back to Japan, and the first Japanese cat cafe
opened its doors in Osaka in 2004. They've become very popular in Japan, with Tokyo home to at least 39. Japan as a whole has over 150 cat cafes.
Because many apartments in Japan forbid pet ownership, the popularity of the cafes has been attributed to a desire to interact with cats to help relieve
the stress of a busy urban life. Many people attribute the growth of the cat cafes to tourists. But step outside the areas where tourists visit, and you'll see lots of Japanese businessmen
happily playing with cats as a way to relax and forget about work for a while.Since then, cat cafes have spread throughout the world. You can now find them in Korea, Austria, Spain, Hungary, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.
Cat cafes moved into North America in 2014, with the first one opening in Montreal. Oakland was next, and then came New York. Now there's one in San Diego! The one below is in Oakland...
Wow!! Lol!!
-
I could definitely have coffee time here
)
-
Great pictures! Here's another KI baby being fierce.
-
It's a cool idea! Makes you wonder how they get around the idiotic Board of Health rule No Pets Allowed. Other countries don't seem to have a problem with dogs or cats in their restaurants. Besides, a few hairs in your food improves the taste, agree?
-
There are Cat Cafes in some of the big cities of the U.S. too. I believe you sign a waver.
-
That's still stupid. Bet that's not required in other countries. But here, where everybody wants to sue anybody for big bucks, it makes some sort of sense. Like there aren't bigger problems here than a cat on the table. Grrrrr.
-
Donna Dew, Yes heard of cat cafes and I think the first one I heard of was either in the US or Canada - what a brilliant idea. I love the idea of using them for encourage adoptions of cats.
Fab photo Ruthbru - love the squirrel story!
Kiwi - super fierce kitten photo!
-
Kiwi, Evidently they are born with tortitude!
-
my daughter went to a cat cafe in Tokyo a few years ago and loved it. DC just got one this past June.
-
in San Francisco area cat cafes were a thing
-
I love the "fierce" kitty.
-
Guess I am so behind the times now after marrying my wonderful farmer husband and living in small town Canada for the past 12 years, lol! If I were still living in the city, starting up a cat cafe would be a dream business! Cats and sharing coffee, two of my favourite things - and finding fur-ever homes for the cats, awesome!
The whole idea of having cats in the house is pretty foreign around these parts. When people visit with us and see our 3 cats I know they are thinking "why aren't those cats in the barn?"... our cats do have a great ourdoor life but I am glad that they choose to come inside with us too.
At least I can appreciate cats together with you ladies... so enjoy meeting you and seeing your feline photos on here, and the KI kittens make my day too!
Let's have a cup of coffee together!
And let's not forget to honor our real master
and here's our coffee maker!!
Cheers!!

That photo above made me laugh! One time our Siamese mix Emmy fell asleep on the printer. DD was doing an assignment and sent off something to print which caused the printer to come "alive!" Hilarious... Emmy about lost it trying to get off the awakened printer.. attack! I love all the pictures.
Cat cafes sound lovely! A little hair adds fiber - like my Dad used to say during picnics when those nasty little gnats would get in our food.. "adds protein eat!" In Europe there are lots of dogs in outside cafes and inside too. No one cares and no one is possessive about keeping a table to themselves either.
-
Rosevalley, poor Emmy, I am laughing, but I can just imagine - the poor thing must have gotten quite the scare from the awakening dragon! lol! She probably wasn't friends with the printer after that
Maybe Emmy needs a friend to help her retaliate...
... know thine enemy, how does this work??
or surrender...
and sleep it off...

Having my morning coffee here (quite late actually!) and chilling at the cafe with this dude...
It's gonna be a great Monday! Make it happen
)

This morning's arrivals. You can only see two, but there are six, some tabby, some black.
-
Beautiful black cat photo!
-
Oh my goodness, fellow cat ladies. Would you wear these?
-
I was going to say yes, 'cos I thought they were tee shirts ......then I realised.
-
um, no.
-
Funny! Pussy panties! Hahahaha
-
Beautiful black cat, Kiwi. I'll bet her kittens are adorable.
Pussy panties? uh no, well, maybe as a joke for DH.
-
Kiwi, such a beautiful black mama cat, does she have a name yet? Her kittens are so wee!!!
Julie, whoa no, not for me. I had a gag gift given to me one time, a thong with "the arse is out of 'er" embroidered on the front. I had a laugh but didn't wear those either!!
-
Awwww... but maybe put some pants on... lol!!
-

-
Just woke up DH laughing at "put your pants on." Definitely was an OMG moment.
