This is Sweetpea when she was little. She seemed to enjoy being on 2 legs instead of 4 .
Even years later it was her favourite pose...
She is something special, I tell her often that she is the sweetest pea in the pod!
-
Awww..sweetpea is lovely!
Glad the trip to the vet was successful!
-
Chilled momcat and babies. Note the small pink/red paw sticking up in the back. And yes, the kitten did make it back to where he belongs with no drama.
-
Mama looks a little more settled today after that day-long delivery! She is so sweet with that little black chin, and such dolly kittens. Adorable!!
-
Rosevalley thanks for your reply. The vet I have used said she does not have dental xrays and told me to get estimates from other vets who do this. I got one estimate on a dental extraction with dental xrays, and I cannot afford it. It was $750.00. As I only got the one estimate, I am wondering if you remember how much it was...was this way off?
Thank you feelingfeline.
The pics are all just wonderful!
-
Meadow it was over 700 I remember that, and that included xrays because the abcess had gone through the jaw and weakened it to the point where it looked like it would break or was broken I forget. We were very concerned about Zoey's jaw. But she came through surgery fine and is a chubby happy camper years afterwards! She did get soft food, super pate stuff for a good 6 months or so after surgery. Now she eats regular salmon/ sweet potatoe kibble with everyone else. We went to a vet clinic that had 4 vets and the one who did the surgery had special training in dental surgeries. She was outstanding. I think Zoey is 12 yrs or so. (We also have a 15 yr. brown and red ticked tabby named Percy and 8 year old Siamese mix with blue eyes named Emmy)
Maybe the vet would allow payments? Some will if you pay 50%. There are also some insurance plans you can purchase to cover an expense and make payments for a nominal amount. We put it on plastic and paid it off little by little. I figured it was cheaper then what I paid for a crown! Still painfully pricey I know. Good luck.
Sweetpea is beautiful! Starkist looks so sad... love her name. I think the pictures are so fine thanks for sharing. The foster babies are so cute!
-
Starkist got packed in the moving van! She hid in a small cabinet that we have and the movers put it on the van! She was crying so luckily they found her. Silly kitty. Thank goodness she is ok. She's safe and sound now with us.
-
Oh no @ Starkist. Glad she's ok!
-
Meadow, You might try playing the cancer card. You know, your chemo just about wiped out your savings and the kitty is your emotional support and you really want to treat her well. Tears might be appropriate at this point.
-
Meadow, maybe this might help too... here is a link to the American Humane Society's webpage for help when having to deal with the financial part of getting appropriate vet care for our pets.
http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tip...
I didn't have too much time to look into all their suggestions but there is a link there to imom.org which looks promising if you read the testimonials there.
Thinking of you and Mattie, and sending ((hugs)).
-
Swaeetpea - gorgeous cat, gorgeous photos!
-
You guys have some of the most beautiful cats around! The photos really seem to capture their personalities!
-
Wren....lol I love that idea! I jokingly say I will do that, just never have! This may be my chance.
Thank you Donna for the link...surely there is a cheaper dental out there than $750.00. Seems outragious to me. But he is worth that and more such a sweetheart, gentle giant, 15 pounds of love.
-
Love all the pictures!!!
-
Meadow I know, vet prices are so high now. This past January I was told that exploratory surgery for a cat - just to diagnose a problem - would cost $800-$1000. I know that it includes all pre-op and post-op procedures, drugs, supplies and 3-4 day stay, but still. Unreal!
Welcome back Ruth! I'm still holding out for a photo of that kitty tree topper if you can find it. No pressure lol!!
-
CAMommy, how are you doing as you get ready for your last treatment? yay! And then cratin' it to the airport lol!!
You are almost there. We're thinking of you!
-
I will look for my Cat in the Christmas Tree tomorrow!
-
vet trip tomorrow.. both cats (13 and 4) de worming ( can i tell you how much i HATE fleas) .. new vet.. going to be expensive with all their "first time check ups' and "senior wellness" stuff. one cat is hanging out IN the carrier now.. the older one knows better and is on the other side of the house
I think vet trips stress me out as much as it does them
-
I told my vet that price was an issue, as I was now on a fixed income. What could we do to bring the cost down? The yearly on one of the dogs came down by half. Next visit on the other dog same. LOL They're is a new vet in town. The cost the previous year was 174. Next year was < 70. HMMMMM. OH plus, the local SPCA started to offer yearlies................
-
I have embrace pet insurance for my 2 kitties. They have been wonderful my male cat had to have eye surgery $1400 for the procedure alone. They pay 80%. It costs me around $800 a year for both cats. But they don't cover pre-existing conditions though.
-
I flipped out last year at my vets office. I'd been going there 30 years, and I'd had enough of one partner. I called him a money grubbing SOB. Got Spookies records, and left.
I go to a low cost clinic now. Still a lot of $$$, but less than I would be paying at old place. Call around, check prices for procedures.
Isn't there a monthly flea treatment for cats like there is for dogs? A pill?
I've never had a cat, don't know much about them. Enjoy seeing all the pics.
-
there absolutely is a monthly flea treatment for kitties. which i was using..lapsed a month.. went on a trip ..came home and my fluffy one was covered in flea dander.. gggrrrrrrrrrrrrr. hes 4 and never had fleas til this year. we had a a friend move in a for 6 months who said his old cat had fleas.. and poof now we do. I am less than pleased about it. we now have: steam cleaned the carpets ..even under the beds, sprayed outside in the grass, used Diatomaceous Earth, advantage in 3 week intervals, cleaned the actual litter boxes with lysol and let them dry in the sun, bought flea traps, and flea combed both cats. but all it takes it them swallowing one stinkin flea and they get worms. First round of pills i was like " no problem I can pill them"... I got docked cat mom points for this... crazy cat.. pill down no problem. chill cat.. drama.. could NOT make it happen! I ended up making a kitty burrito and getting the pill in there. they both reacted like the pill smelled awful. i had the pill on the desk and they both winced sharply away. now Im just going to have the vet do it. if they ever need pills again.. if its a smaller pill ill do it.. but the heartache it was causing both of us was terrible. after the pill issue, for about a week, if i moved.. he ran, and I dont want that. Did i say that i hate fleas?
-
I don't know what the pill was, but at the shelter we use a liquid. I learned my cat can spit across the room. I'm with you having the vet do it. Even the kittens gag on that stuff. Their first loss of confidence in the goodness of people.
-
My cat went walk about yesterday and left his harness and leash somewhere. Darn, that thing was expensive! I'm going to leave a flyer in people's doors on our block to call if they find it.
-
Hi Spookiesmom -
The pill treatment is called Comfortis. It was originally prescribed for dogs, but now they have it for cats. It is by far the most effective of the flea treatments. I am metaphysically unable to give my cats a pill, so we are still on Revolution, which is the monthly topical you apply to the back of the neck. It also works. If you can give your kitty a pill (it's a big pill and even the vet techs break it into pieces before administering it), Comfortis might be your best bet.
-
I use pill pockets for my dogs, also made for cats. They look like play dough, smell vile, dogs snarf them down. Get it at big box pet stores.
Was using Frontline for fleas, they're year round here. The fleas built an immunity to it. Have used Comfortis, good stuff. Currently using Trifexis.
