Hi Magiclight and welcome to the thread!

I think Lisa uses a canon camera point and shoot but don't quote me on that as its been quite a while since we discussed cameras. Sounds like you also like to take photographs and if so we would love to see some of your work if you'd like to share.

How are you doing with your recovery? I hope all is healing well and you are tolerating the Tamoxifen without too many side effects. This disease sure does knock us back on our heels somewhat and life is never quite the same again but life can still be sweet.

    Love n hugs. Chrissy

Hi Magic..yes, Chrissy is right, I use a Canon bridge camera Canon SX 50 but the trick is to stand pretty far away from the object and let the telephoto lens do the up close..it fades the background..also you can lower the f stop for focusing on an object with the background blurry..but generally I use automatic setting...lazy me.

Lisa, I thought of you when I read and article about medical marijauna being useful healing bones. Will find it for you.

Chrisy: Yes I do like to photograph. This image taken in the high country of Arizona reminds me of BCO women-- on any given day each of us may be the one in need of being surrounded by supporting sisters.

SocalLisa: I wish I had a lighter weight Canon camera and have been exploring the mirrorless models, but I'm so attached to my Canon. As with so much in my limited tech world I keep waiting for a newer model . As i write this I think I may be applying that type of logic to my own body and struggle with going with the model I have now ;). Fortunately, I can not only imagine a better, lighter, camera, but there are many out there to choose from if I just make the leap.

Knowing when to use the auto setting and when to create a different type of image is true genius.

Magic, I love your photo and the story with it! Just fabulous!

Talking cameras, I bought a new Fuji mirrorless camera last year and I just love it! It's so light that I find it very easy to hold steady and it takes wonderful pics. I have not regretted spending the money on it at all.

I just like mine because I can work it with one hand..for one thing

    image

I took this with one hand, I was out in the ocean in a Navy ship and this was on one side and a nuclear sub on the other..so I was running from one side to the other..love the pix of the trees...and it hangs from my neck to make it easier..I love the trees, yes we have all been supporting each other for many years..

Most interesting photo and story on capturing it. Working one handed would be so great. Two handed I can do with a short lens but I seldom shoot without a tripod as that is how I was taught decades ago. Also, my hands get weaker with age and I like long shutter speeds when I shoot water.

The trick with the ship was catching it without shoreline showing. I had only a few seconds to catch it from a moving deck. Auto works for me as I don't really set up shots. I just click.

wonderful photos! What a talented group we are!

Aly wonderful shawl! So much work, but great reward!

    Welcome magiclight!

Lisa, even one handed you capture such great shots.

On the medical marijuana, since we live on an island but in MA (where it is legal) if we purchase medical grade we can't bring it home since it is against federal law to transport it over the high seas or through federal air space. Crazy.

My DS has gone back to the "real world" as he calls off island. I am really enjoying having my space again. He was a big help but I like being quiet and he is a big presence. Lol I am feeling better but still achy and stiff. I still don't feel "right" in my lower abdomen but maybe that's the way its gonna be for now. I am not taking the tamoxifen (so there!) At least until I see my MO in August.

Hey Chrissy, are you still at your DDs? Take care!

I thought I would post some pictures of the progress of my house. I just use my phone camera.

    image

This is the original paneling. We are just sanding it so it is lighter then putting a lite coating of sealant. The left side is just stripped, the right side is sanded. I love the knottiness (is that a word?)

The other side of the kitchen looking toward the mud room with a pass through so I can drop my groceries on the counter and pick them up in the kitchen. Cinder (the dog) is also going to have her own door in the mud room.

The fire place is going to be beach stone faced. This is a confusing pic because it is from over a work table and through some scaffolding. But I think you will get the idea.

Mac, Your house is going to be stunning when finished. I like the sanded portion of the paneling; it's much lighter.

Aly, Is your shawl knitted or crocheted? It's absolutely gorgeous.

Mac: You can make such a beautiful shawl and remodel a kitchen - whether or not you do the later yourself, it is a huge job to live through the dust. Are you living in this remodel now? (Sorry if I missed an earlier explanation). At one time I had an entire house remodeled, though did not live in it until finished and I was overwhelmed.

mag, (do you mind that I shorten your name?) You would have to read back quite far to get the scoop. Here it is again in a nut shell. I am remodeling my grandmothers house, that I have inherited since my parents have died. I live in my house that is upstairs over the Cobbler Shop that I run. I use to do the work myself but since dx have hired someone else to do the main work load and I do the books and some projects. So last year "I" remodeled the little carriage house on the property, my DD and her BF are living there now. My dad died in March 2012 and I was dxed in Dec, so never got it together to move. I did stay there a short while last summer, but moved back to this house for the work to get done. I was suppose to in by summer. lol I am trying to be patient. Maybe I should re-phrase: my patience is being tried.

Thanks for remodel story - abbreviated. Mag is OK. I don't think I've ever spoken with a 'cobbler'. One never knows who will be on this site (there are way too many diagnosed with BC). Maybe contractors and surgeons go to the same school to learn how to make weeks to recovery/remodel shorter than they really are in real time. I'm going to use the "I am trying to be patient. Maybe I should re-phrase: my patience is being tried." From the pics I'm wondering if an early fall completion is possible? Then you can get the pot simmering for homemade soup!

mag, we're talking about what a nice month Sept is. I have a friend's daughter getting married in the front yard on Sept 5th. My DS is going to officiate. I'm hoping by then. (might be unrealistic) I'm meeting the brides mother over there tomorrow. She is an old friend of mine and her youngest daughter is my daughter's good friend. It's not going to be real fancy. My son is suppose to wear his kilt. lol It will just be close family, so not too big. Then the reception will be at a beach that is pretty special to the couple. Potluck supper and all.

Nancy those renos are coming on a treat and that fire place sure is going to look mighty fine when completed........love the idea! It seems that no matter where you live in the world, renos are never completed within the given time frame. Having been there, done that many times I can really relate to the 'patience being tried'........lol

That wedding sounds perfect and what weddings should be, simple and meaningful with no high stress in getting it organised. Here's hoping it all goes to plan.

Still spending five nights and six days with my DD and i must admit that I am really looking forward to the time when I can return home for good but that is still a long way off yet.

    Take care all!

    Love n hugs. Chrissy

Mac you have such a nice celebration to look forward to this fall. Doing it with minimal stress is sure the way to go. Anything on a beach sounds delightful to this desert dweller.
