Perhaps I miswrote - Hubby definitely does support me in my faith/beliefs - he isn't a member though is quite knowledgeable. I hate to post too much over the open interment but will say approx. 15 yrs ago he was basically killed at work. When I found out how bad it was, I immediately called my VT companion to get Brothers to ER for a Blessing. It was almost 4 days when he finally started coming around - the first words he said I could understand were "Did you get me a Blessing?" To which I replied "Of course" "Good!" and then he relaxed and it wasn't too long til he was out of ICU. So yes, he does know a lot and does believe.

Ray--I couldn't copy the link but I'll check it out via LDS.org. That's cool that they sent you an email! Our FHE is usually watching a show together or just reading the scriptures. We need more discussion, so I'm hoping to get inspired after visiting the FHE idea site. Good job, getting that going in your home, dear Ray. Blessings, small and great, are promised :)

Kicks--glad you have a husband that has faith in a priesthood blessing, even though he's not a member of the church. That near death experience must've really been stressful on you, too--wow! And many Thanks for feeding the missionaries. They reallly appreciate kind people like you and probably enjoy getting to know your husband :)

Mombie and Susan--hope you're having a nice weekend!

Are you still awake, Ray? I just came back from watching the new movie, "San Andreas." OMGOSH!!!! Are you sure you want to visit me in California?!?! It was quite an assault to the senses and seemed pretty darn real. How I hope I never see the day when "the big one" takes us into the ocean--ha!

So glad you get a day of rest tomorrow, Ray! Enjoy your peaceful weekend and good luck with planning your FHE. Even if it's for 5 minutes, it's worth it! :)

Love to you and all our sisters

Just saw this, Ray! So sorry you had a hectic night/morning at work. Lots of drama with those poor people! Hope you got to take a nap, but if not, you should catch one after church, for sure! And I love chatting with you, on and off line :) Have a beautiful Sabbath day!

Hello all, haven't checked in for a while. I got overwhelmed and had to take a break. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

Ray--Answering your question about Family Home Evening: yes we are pretty consistant about that....now. It took us many years to get good at it and we still have a dry spell on occassion. It sure makes a difference in the home. We start FHE at the dinner table because time is always hard to come by. The kids we have at home are ages 16 to 11. We've been mostly consistant for about ten years. I love having the missionaries join us and they love our habit of sharing old and new business. That's a tradition we have to encourage family sharing and listening and planning.

Kicks--that's a nice alternative in having the missionaries over. A traditional FHE would be hard with the situation you have described. We like to invite families to join us once in a while.

Mombie--welcome back from your break! Your record of FHE's is pretty impressive and inspiring--way to go! Hope you're doing well and balancing all your responsibilities.

Ray--LOVE your profile pic! So good to see your pretty face with your posts :) How did the tree planting go? You are such a great preschool mom!!!

Still can't believe what you went through today (and I giggled at your "15" year old typo, meaning "5" year-old---ha! That was a funny visual ;) Anyway, you got through it and you got to go for a nice walk after all the chaos. Good for you! Yep--you're showing your gratitude amidst challenges and I'm so proud of you!

Taught our scripture group class today on 3 Nephi 27, and 28. Learned a lot about the power of prayer among a group of people (in this case, the 12 Nephite apostles) when they are single of mind and heart. I'm grateful to have the gospel of Jesus Christ in these latter days, and for the knowledge that we can call on our Heavenly Father as individuals, a family, a church group, etc. and ask him anything we desire in righteousness. I believe Jesus wants us to ask the Father in his name as much as he wants us to express our thanks. My thought for tonight's post: It's OK to ask.

    Love to all!

If plans go as planned - this Sat. is going to be a fantastic day for me. (Weather is always a possible problem). This weekend there is a Volksmarch at Crazy Horse Memorial where you actually get to walk up to the top/arm of the carving. I get to take the Sister Missionaries from our neighbor Ward. I am so looking forward to it. It's been several years since I got to do the walk (6k) with Sisters. The Fall Volksmarch, I took our Ward's Sisters to do it but weather caused it to be cancelled. So we spent time there in their Museum, then went to a historic site and another museum in Custer State Park - so it was a great day anyway. Anyway -any day with Sisters is a great day. BUT I really do hope that we get to do the Volksmarch.

painting rooms and I made a sideboard into a desk for hubby. Love power tools. And painted that dream and white. Now I have to put 5 coats of polyacrylic on sanding inbetween coats for a super hard finish on top. Love doing it.

My daughter hated crats. When we would go to school and see the stuff hanging we instantly knew her things. If it had to do with glueing pasta, hers had 1 maybe 2 noodles..lol and I am the craft queen. Genetics....don't get it. Lo

Saturday was a fantastic day - not 'everything' went as planned but it was a great day.

It started out with me misplacing my cell (somehow it managed to get itself under the couch) so by the time I picked them up I was 1/2 hr late. We got there and started the Volksmarch. All went good for the first 1/2. They got to talk to several people/groups of people and I got to talk to others. We We, at times, sang hymns (they did much better at it than than me - I can't carry a tune in an oak bucket LOL) While we were in the woods heading up, big thunderstorms built up about 10-12 miles north of the Memorial and there was close lightning so by the time we made it to the base, they had closed the mountain down so we didn't get to go to the top.

On the way home, we got stuck in a LONG line of vehicles and at the cutoff to Mt Rushmore and Keystone the road to Hill City was blocked by HP and Sheriff turning everyone onto the cutoff. Turned out that Hill City had gotten between 3-4 inches of rain and was flooded - roads not driveable.

We all got home safe, had a great time (I did I know and think they did too).

Susan--would love to see pics of your projects--wow! And Kicks--so glad you're trip with the sisters went well, overall. Glad you got home safely! My husband looked up the monument you climbed and it's quite amazing. Someday, when I get the chance to go east, I'd love to visit historic sites of country and church.

Ray! I KNEW I could count on you to save my bacon! Great ideas, so I'll simply copy and paste and print and take all the credit (Not!) And I'd love to come to Ohio and help you with those kiddos and roast marshmellows in your backyard and catch fireflies. It's a very nice thought :) Love you, and thanks again!

I'm still open to more ideas, Susan, Kicks, Momz----post any kind of service you can think of for individuals or familes to do this summer. Thanks!

    Hope all are well!

Make 'little bags' for the Missionaries to have to give out that have particular Scriptures or quotes on decorated cards to give to ones that would 'apply' (may not be the best word) to different investigators (or inactives). Different bags could be different - some 'geared' to young families, some singles, some olderster, so many possibilities. The whole family can get involved - kids making the cards too.

Making little 'bags/box/envelope' and putting them at the home of each we VT even if have not actually met them. (When I was inactive, I always looked forward every month to getting my monthly mail from my VT.

    Hope I made sense.

Great ideas, Kicks! I really like how you involved whole families with card making for others, especially for those the missionaries visit and those we home teach and visit teach. It warmed my heart to read that you looked forward to your monthly mail from your visiting teacher :) Thanks!

So sorry, dear Ray :{ I was hoping it would be better than expected, but I'm glad you went on the trip with him. On my way out to go on splits with the missionaries so I'll check in later. Today was a crazy day with 2 new students and music stores out of the books I needed for them. I should know better than to wait to the last minute!

Uh-oh, Ray! So sorry We women think we can lift anything. Hope that sling works so the bone can have a chance to heal. Take advantage of letting people do things for you for the next 6 weeks Please be gentle with yourself!

Your thoughts of gratitude for our beautiful world reminded me of the song the children sing at church--"My Heavenly Father Loves Me" Here's a wonderful video with the song and inspiring pictures to go with the lyrics. Enjoy!

Looking forward to more pics of your knitting, Susan, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about the new job possibility for your husband, Ray!

Oldest son's family with kiddos have been visiting and it's been fun chaos :) They're leaving tomorrow so it'll be a while before I have the energy to put all the millions of toys away and kid dishes. Always sad when they leave, but we'll see them again in December. More grandkids coming the end of August, though, so maybe I should just leave everything out.

Hope everyone is staying cool and enjoying the summer Love and hugs to all!

Had a fantastic afternoon with the Elders today. Hubby and I took them fishing (got them a 'Day Non Resident' license so were legal). They wanted to try fly fishing and they did. One really got into it but the other switched to spinning rod. Think they had a good time - they definitely ate the ham I had cooked on the grill, potato salad and cole slaw - but don't Elders always EAT.

Hubby is not a member but likes feeding 'the Missionaries' and being around them.

We tentatively have a going fishing again 3 weeks from today when Hubby will next be able to get off on a Monday.

Any ideas of what I can fix to take that is easily taken in a cooler? I can do a ham again but some other ideas. I'm thinking of a macaroni/cheese macaroni salad and cucumber and onions in sour cream sauce.

Hey, Kicks! So the elders in your ward are not only fishers of men but fishers of FISH--ha! How fun for them! And you're wonderful to take them places and add a spot of fun to their time spent in your area. Bless you and your husband! As far as fppd ideas for your next trip, I think chicken salad sandwhiches are usually liked and easy to make. Use crescent rolls or a sturdy bun that won't get soggy in the cooler.

Ray-- I totally thought of you when I saw this

Susan--loved all your adorable knitted sweaters with animals--so cute and very creative! Best to you with your upcoming surgery and caring for your mom (I read some of your posts on the insomniacs thread). Keeping you in my prayers!

Ray--I can't believe you talk to lightening bugs!! I know you love them, but really? ;) I do think it's endearing, though, and wish I had a video of you with your cute little bugs. I'm jealous that you have them and get to play with them every summer. Someday I'll get myself to Ohio and see them for myself! :)

I posted this on my FB page. I'm pretty excited about this bible study project and even donated a few dollars towards it. Hope it's successful and unites Christians as they study and share their knowledge and insights and inspirational stories from the bible :) Here's the link. Hope the short video works!

Love that adorable Pioneer Boy of yours, Ray!!!! Looks like he appreciated that outfit you put together--perfection!

I got the chance to explain what Pioneer Day was to some of my piano students I taught on July 24th. Theses students are from India and were very intrigued and sympathetic as I explained the hardships and the persecutions the early church members experienced, being driven from state to state until they settled in Utah and made it blossom like a rose with all their hard work and faithful dedication to God in all they did. It felt good, sharing the meaning of this special day in our heritage to those from another country and culture.

Had a lady over for dinner tonight who I Visit Teach. I've visited her for over 9 years and just love her. She's in her late 70's and has been battling skin cancer all over her arms, neck, etc., and now may have breast cancer. Mammo is all she's had, but the Dr. says it may be in both breasts. I'm really sad and worried for her, but I'll support her in what ever she decides to do if it is BC. She says she'll refuse chemo since it did no good for her husband who passed away from cancer many years ago. I can't convince her otherwise, but I"ll do my best to help her through this possible trial. Mark (my DH) is her Home Teacher and does a lot for her since she lives alone. He gave her a beautiful blessing of strength and comfort after dinner. She was quite emotional and grateful. She's a blessing to Mark and to me--we sure love her and hope she'll be OK.

    Have a good week, everyone!

It has been YEARS since I saw any Lightening Bugs. We do have a lot of Lady Bugs this year though.

I am so 'envious ' of you talented Sisters who can knit - I can't. Many have tried to teach me since,I was about 6 with no luck at all. I can crochet and tat though. I know, for some knitting is 'easy' - not me. Some say tatting is hard/'impossible' but for me, it is so easy and a 'no brainer' but I learned from Nanny (Mom's Mom) when I was about 5. I have succeded in teaching a few to tat.

I like the idea of a tub of chicken salad, bread/buns and condiments and let them fix their own sandwiches so can't be soggy. I also sort of heard that they would like (read - 'want') some more of my potato salad (I like making it anyway). Love feeding Elders - they really EAT! The next time we go fishing, we'll take a small grill and charcoal and 'stufff' for grilling fish in case they do catch enough 'keepers' to eat.

I had talked to HT about fly fishing before and he and his wife want to learn so I have 2 more to teach. After I showed him the pictures of the Elders yesterday, he is even more gung ho to get a time lined up to start learning. Hopefully, more will follow.
