    It's the fist day of spring here in socal and I'm itching to get out and work in my yard. I love hanging out outside. This winter, and the drought have really ravaged my yard. We lost 6 huge pine trees this winter to the drought so it's changed the whole feel of my yard. Not to mention shade vs sun plants, etc. low maintenance and low water will be the aim this this spring. Hoping to have some energy soon!

    fun, fun! So glad Susan and ebru get to meet!

    Wow, you all are master travelers! I am excited for some trips too.

    1. My dad always gets together with his phrat brothers to watch the sec basketball tournament. They all went to The university of the south. While they were hanging out last week, my dad talked to One of the guys who lives in ky and owns race horses. He wants me to come up and go to keenland! He also wants to take me on some farm tours. Seth Hancock (who owns Claiborne farms--secretariat) also went to the university of the south so we may be able to swing that!

    2. In may My best friend and I are going to destin fl for a week!!! No kids!! No husbands!! Haha! We haven't been able to spend any alone time together since babies came along 11 yrs ago!

    3. In June all of my aunts, uncles, cousins, and cousins children from my dad's side of the family is going to sunset beach in nc! That will be a grand total of 40 people! I'm so excited because I don't get to see my Colorado and California family very much!

    I am new here just diagnosed in December. This forum is perfect because I haven't been able to get out of the recliner and leave the house. I'm frozen by this diagnosis. How did you all get back into life

    Chrissy1 - welcome to the thread and the group. So sorry you're here because of BC, but so happy you found us. There is life after diagnosis, it just takes a while. If you want to private message me, please do so - I have some tips and tricks (so to speak) that helped me unfreeze. Sending you big hugs.

    dear Chrissy1 it takes a while.. But you will shake off from your mortal mood and get back on your feet to enjoy each sec of whatever is left.

    The only difference we have from people with cancer is that we just got aware our lives have an end date. The treatment options are doable, and if not you have options to switch to.

    Personal experience: the less detail you share with your collegues etc the more normal life you lead. Your close circle of family & friends AND us :))) of course are more than enough to support you mentally..

    This is one of the things I'm doing for fun lately - spending time with this adorable little guy. This is my grandson, Connor and he is 11 months old today - almost a one year old!

    Sounds like lots of fun trips planned and everyone is spending fun time with your families. DH and I just got back from a 5 day cruise to the Bahamas, we had such a great time. The beauty there is breathtaking and I really enjoyed the cruise, you definitely get pampered. The sunsets were amazing, although this picture doesn't so it justice.

    Amy, Connor is gorgeous. Blue, the Bahamas are some kind of wonderful. Kiwi, I love the idea of a funset!

    Dh and I spent January shopping for a new sofa. We visited about 12 furniture stores. It was fun browsing all the home furnishings. There is a lot of ugly, uncomfortable stuff out there! We eventually agreed to order a wheat colored couch similar in style to the old one which was still comfy but faded and worn with a very busy, colorful tapestry pattern. We de cluttered and had carpets cleaned waiting for the sofa to arrive which took about six weeks.

    About the same time, I realized my son's room hadn't been updated since he was in junior high and he's soon to graduate college. I fussed around to find just the right shade of silver gray paint to replace the deep red color that was on the walls. White trim, new white curtains to replace the dark, striped ones. Shopped for a few accent pieces, found a big metal M (his name is Mark), bought an inexpensive Ansel Adams poster and framed it and hung one of his guitars on the wall. He was home this weekend and seemed very happy with it. It was a lot of work but I had fun doing it.

    When I got the stage iv dx, I completely stopped doing anything for the house, spending time on other things. Now, tho, I'm okay with investing energy again on the home and have some fun with it.

    That sounds great MrsM! Love the sound of what you did with your son's room. It is fun to do that kind of stuff; I miss having my own house so that I can do that type of thing. Soon....

    Chrissy - Welcome to the group. I hope you will find that it gets easier over time. Try to find something to do that you enjoy every day, even if it is just a walk around the block or time with a good book. Distraction is good medicine!

    Divine - it's funny the stages we go through, isn't it? I too went through the stage of not wanting to buy things or make improvements on the house. I still struggle with the big plans, like the kitchen remodel that we so desperately need. It's less about the money and more about the time it will take away from other things. Right now I'm into buying craft supplies, mostly for card making and scrapbooking. A fancy paper trimmer here, some washi tape there...it's getting out of hand! Anyway, I bet your new couch and painted walls look great. I think our environment has such an impact on how we feel, so good for you!

    Like Romansma I am waiting for the weather it catch up with the calendar. It's supposed to be spring! I'm working on getting my husband and brother-in-law to help me clean out the flowerbeds this weekend so the tulips and crocus can come up. The snowdrops have already started blooming. For 10 years I've controlled the weeds in our yard with only mulch and weekly weeding, but I'm afraid I may need to turn to organic Preen to help me out this year. Does anyone have experience using an organic weed killer?

    I sm glad that you are all having so much fun! I am in the midst of report cards and parent conferences, something that I value, but wouldn't consider fun (I get very behind on everything else). However, yesterday I spent the afternoon doing an urban scavenger hunt (Google challenge nation to learn about it). My younger SIL wanted to do this for his birthday and got a team of 9 together. It was fun and we came in 31 out of about 140 teams. Went to a brew pub afterwards, so it made for a nice day. Six conferences today and I had to teach as well. I am totally wiped out but happy.

    Beautiful photo. So nice to people dressed in clothing for warm weather. Yesterday I enjoyed a nice walk around the city. A bit cold and some snow flurries, but invigorating. Went to an antique show on pier 94 then walked on to the flea market on 39 st, then walked on down to Macy's to see the flower show Macy's decorates their windows and first floor with lots of flowers every year from Palm Sunday to Easter, Then on down to the flea market on 25 st. Found some nice scarves for $5 each (lost my hair so I'm collecting pretty scarves for my head) Just wish the steroids lasted a bit longer. I'm pooped and need a day to rest lol

    Ah, the weather... Yes, it was lovely. For as much as the East Coast as had a terrible winter (my dad and brother are in NJ), ours has been mild. I never turned the heat on in my bedroom ! But, it's not a good thing as we had very little rain, and the plants and trees are terribly confused. I have jalapeño and Anaheim chili plants which are behaving like perennials, not the annuals they should be. Lovely, but concerning.

    Yes, Frankie is blond, as her mother was at that age (and still is with a bit of "help"). My ex is blond and my mom was a redhead, so they've got those light hair color genes swimming in their gene pool. My younger dd's husband, even at age 30, had almost white blond hair. It will be interesting to see what color hair their kids have.

    Tina, it always takes me a minute to realize that "Karen" refers to me, but yes, the pronunciation is the same. My mother loved the fact that it was different, thereby insuring that her first born was as well!

    Thank you. I think she's pretty darn special as all good grandmothers should. My younger dd and I made the cake. I bake and she decorates. The cake is actually version 2.0. The night before the party I baked a very light, almost angel food type cake. It was too tender to hold the shape of the kitty head and cracked beyond repair. We had to get up very early the next morning and start again. It was a bit of a rush but we got it done. Each slice was served with a good dollop of my special fresh strawberry sauce. We are already getting some spectacular strawberries here

    Caryn - wonderful job with the cake! Such fun!

    I played clarinet in a faculty recital for one of the colleges I teach at this afternoon. It was my first solo performance since chemo & I definitely think chemo impacted my breath support. It went really well though, and made me feel like I got a piece of myself back.
