Hi Sierra, I loved your post. My sister lived in Oakland, CA for about ten years. She was in the Oakland fire and lost everything. That's when my nephew came to live with us for 13 months.
Those concerts you mentioned must have been great!

OMG~~I just heard this song
and had to share
flashback city
The name game!
Shirley!
Shirley, Shirley bo Birley Bonana fanna fo Firley
Fee fy mo Mirley, Shirley!
Lincoln!
Lincoln, Lincoln bo Bincoln Bonana fanna fo Fincoln
Fee fy mo Mincoln, Lincoln!
Come on everybody!
I say now let's play a game
I betcha I can make a rhyme out of anybody's name
The first letter of the name, I treat it like it wasn't there
But a B or an F or an M will appear
And then I say bo add a B then I say the name and Bonana fanna and a fo
And then I say the name again with an F very plain
and a fee fy and a mo
And then I say the name again with an M this time
and there isn't any name that I can't rhyme
Arnold!
Arnold, Arnold bo Barnold Bonana fanna fo Farnold
Fee fy mo Marnold Arnold!
But if the first two letters are ever the same,
I drop them both and say the name like
Bob, Bob drop the B's Bo ob
For Fred, Fred drop the F's Fo red
For Mary, Mary drop the M's Mo ary
That's the only rule that is contrary.
Okay? Now say Bo: Bo
Now Tony with a B: Bony
Then Bonana fanna fo: bonana fanna fo
Then you say the name again with an F very plain: Fony
Then a fee fy and a mo: fee fy mo
Then you say the name again with an M this time: Mony
And there isn't any name that you can't rhyme
Every body do Tony!
Pretty good, let's do Billy!
Very good, let's do Marsha!
A little trick with Nick!
The name game

Buffalo sandals...please tell me SOMEONE remembers them...everyone else I talk to thinks I've lost my mind...
Macrame ANYTHING...
Hip hugger bell bottomed pants with platform shoes, but the pants still had to drag on the ground...
Sweat jacket over jeans and no shirt underneath (done up of course)...
Halter dresses with v'd bottom (70s)...

Buffalo sandals?? Maybe if I saw a picture I might remember them.
Zipped up only to the bra line. Cleavage must show, or what would be the point? Oh, I miss my cleavage.

I was born in 1949. I remember our first TV, poodle skirts, car hops, American Bandstand, Mickey Mouse Club, Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Greenjeans, Buffalo Bob and Clarabelle the Clown, of course Howdy Doody. I had a Davy Crockett bedspread. I used to dress up in my mothers dresses and HATS!!! We made mud pies in the front yard. We used to look at her old albums and giggle at the funny names. I would get in trouble because I like to play softball with my brother and his friends. Girls were not supposed to do that. Of course, I was a rebel. We used to wear these funny little tops, kinda like the precursor of the tube top. Made of cotton with elastic on top and bottom. It would cover about 3 inches of your chest. Of course we were all so young there was nothing to hide. LOL
Ah, the good ole days.

These are my buffalo sandles, circa 2006, on clearance from Shoe Carnival, $5!!! They are metallic! I didn't know the name, but I remembered the shoe and had to have them,
I still have my red tag, 501's, circa maybe 8 yrs ago, they fit again, 3 yrs ago, 25 lbs and pre menopause ago,but why am I saving them now? -
i was born in 1953 and what i remember most is BEATLEMANIA.i loved paul because he was so cute. for my 11th birthday i actually got to see them in concert in jax,fl.i thought of them every waking moment. yes beatlemania was real. oh to go back to those good times.
-
Sorry for the off topic but I just had to say this.
The word "sandal" always reminds me of this embrrassing story. I tend to speak "Aussie English" as most of my close friends are from Australia.
One day in last summer I was talking to one of my good American friends. He's from Florida and we were complaining how sticky our weather was. He asked me "so what do you usually wear to work?", I answered "I always wear something casual like jeans etc with sneakers but I could go with thongs when it's this hot like crazy!". Well, at that time, I didn't know thongs mean those naughty panties in the States!!! In Australia, they call sandals thongs. Needless to say he was utterly stunned. It took me a while to see what's wrong with me. -
Fumi, we call sandals, thongs too! But usually the kind of sandals that have two straps that go between your toes also known as "flip-flops". I guess that's where the panties got their name, except instead of between your toes it goes between...
-
I have the same
sandals Christine
LOL~~clearance rack $5.00
I bought them a few weeks back

Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh so mellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain so yellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a young and a callow fellow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow--follow, oh-oh
