Ok, so moving was not fun.  It was an ordeal and I'm still a bit emotionally shattered by the experience.  However, when I look out the kitchen window, I remember why we moved.  Kapiti Island in the distance, and yes, we can see the ocean.  Makes it all worthwhile.  Lots of decks and places to sit with nice views as well, so looking forward to summer!

Gorgeous! You know I adored NZ. Glad you're settling in.

PS: the children's book I bought in Akaroa, Ten Kooky Kiwi, is just as big a hit with my class this year as it was last year. My granddaughter loves it too. I've still made no attempt at the, included, Maori version :)

Caryn - NZ is indeed lovely.  We have 4 bedrooms so you can visit anytime! :)  Glad everyone loves the Kiwi book!

Well, your happy little friend has gotten herself in to the same quagmire again regarding alternative therapies. Those of you who have known me a while know I am interested in these things but always run into the wall of insufficient evidence, MLM schemes, anecdotes or simply having the door slammed shut because I ask too many questions. So, I needed to perk up. Took a refreshing shower worked on nålbinding some hats, class newsletter etc. Then I thought I really needed to get happy so I listened to some humppa/folk metal music. Humppa is Finnish polka but some Finnish bands (and others) have kind of mixed it up with metal. So, here is a song called Humppa is My Neighbor" by a Russian band called Troll Bends Fir,featuring Jonne Jarvela of one of my favorite folk metal bands, Korpiklaani. You just can't help but dance or at least tap,you feet!

    Love it.  Thanks, Caryn!

and thanks to Blonde and Teacher - will post more pics one of these days.  The shot I posted was literally from inside the kitchen, so not a fantastic photo.  Saw some native NZ parrots in the yard yesterday - very exciting!

I have posted about how fun, for me, is being able to enjoy life's everyday pleasures. The"big" things are great but I really cherish the small stuff in a way I never did before bc. My younger dd and sil recently bought their first home. I spent part of yesterday at their house making meatballs, lots of meatballs, for the housewarming party they are having today. I also waxed my dd's eyebrows and other facial hair. It was so darned ordinary, even trivial but oh so lovely and normal. Of course, I will enjoy the party today but I really enjoyed yesterday because it was something anyone, even those without bc, would have done to help with a party.

Sounds nice exbrnxgrl. My mother and I just took a 1.5 hour walk around the neighborhood. It's a sunny Autumn day here near Baltimore,  MD. The leaves ate changing to red and gold and dropping. We crunched over lots of acorns and wondered if we should grab a bunch fot the squirrels this winter.

Gorgeous view Kiwi!  My son and I have been having so much fun watching the playoffs on TV that we decided to take a road trip and attend game 5 of the NLCS.  Look for us in the stands tomorrow night.  So excited!

Beautiful fall weekend here, so DH and I took some of our nieces and nephews to a local farm that has a Fall Fun Farm.  Went through a ten acre corn maze, went on a hay ride, shot some apples from a cannon and slingshots and had some good carmel apples. Had lots of fun with my "babies".

I went to Panera's today and had a nice salad (chicken cobb) and of course a latte. Tomorrow evening mom and I will get dressed up and go to my annual retirees dinner. I know. We are wild women! If weather and health permits I hope to go hiking Saturday morning.

Looks fantastic with a great looking group of people, Blue!

Good on ya mate @ Dune! (that's a Kiwi thing...).

We went on a lovely tour of the South Island; I need to get myself in gear and get some pics posted here.  Hoping to stalk baby Paradise Ducks this weekend with the camera.

Today, all the students at school where I work came dressed in their Halloween costumes for a day of fun. Of course, I dressed up, too. Here I am as a tree, quite the appropriate costume for a preschool teacher, don't you think?  The costume cost me nothing since I already had the leaves; and I attached one of my son's beanie babies, a red cardinal (state bird of Ohio) to the ensemble. It was a very busy day!  But fun.

You look great! Very fall like. We had Halloween at my school yesterday as today was a staff development day. It has been raining all day, but since we desperately need it, no one is complaining. Looking forward to trick or treating this evening with my favorite ladybug, my granddaughter. Happy Halloween!

Thanks for the movie suggestion, think I will check it out today.  So tired, feeling like laying around today.  My husband and I joined some friends at a costume party last night.  Goth chick and her Funky Chicken.  Fun, but soooooooo tired today!

Just put a deposit on the Danube Waltz Viking River Tour for May. Now we're debating whether or not to pay $650 each for travel insurance.

    Dunesleeper,

That sounds fantastic! I've never done a river cruise, but love ocean cruising (Alaska in June 2015 is up next). I always buy travel insurance and make sure it covers preexisting medical conditions. The cost you stated sounds very high. Which insurance company would you be using? Have you checked out Insuremytrip.com?
