100 Days of Gratitude

Just grateful for a pedicure this afternoon.
-
8/22: I am grateful today for money to pay bills and food in the freezer and the pantry to make an easy dinner so I didn't have to go to the store (and it's DH's favorite dinner besides)
-
Hi folks- swelling has gone down with some ice around the face and eyes. Massage therapist also did some facial massage and got some things draining.
I look better tonight but afraid of what monster I will see in the morning. But I will be positive, maybe it was just the worst today and will now improve!

I am grateful because I slept great too (which is rare for me)!
-
8/23- grateful for a beautiful day and fun riding around in my convertible! Also grateful my swelling is gone, I slept well and really feel good today. Getting around the corner on this recent skin surgery.
-
Jazzygirl, glad you're feeling so much better!
Onco, DH loves the bag of dried ham beans cooked with cubed ham added at the last minute, just to heat and Marie Callenders corn bread. Easy and inexpensive.
8/23: grateful for a nice long chat with a friend
-
Grateful for a wonderful night out with friends for my best friend since forever, to celebrate her 60th! -
8/24- grateful for another pretty day and the opportunity for some new work I am discussing with a possible new client.

This will be a little long, but it was something that I was grateful to be able to do for someone else:
I have a 92 year old friend (whom I met when my dad was in the nursing home here.) Even though my dad has been gone two years now, she is so 'with it' and interesting that I try to have coffee with her every week just because it is fun. Yesterday when I was there, we were talking about food. She had me get out one of her recipe books to look for a recipe that I thought sounded good. After finding that recipe, (and me copying it down), I was paging through the book and we came to a well worn recipe for 'Onions Au Gratin'. I asked her about it and she said, "Oh my, that was the most wonderful dish! Copy it down too, and if you ever make it, bring me a little tiny bowl so that I can taste it again." After I left, I went to the store, got the ingredients, made it, and brought her a big bowl today. She was so happy & gobbled it right down! It made her day, and mine too!
-
Ruthbru- that is a great story. I love that you have stayed in touch with this woman and made a favorite dish for her. I bet that meant so much to her, and think you liked it too!
-
Ruth, what an angel you are both for maintaining the friendship and taking time to make the dish for her. I'll bet you made her day, week, month... Is it a recipe worth sharing?

Ruth, how wonderful that you have maintained this friendship. I know it blesses both of you.
Grateful for cooler weather and a wonderful sermon at church today written and presented by a friend in our pastor's absence.
-
Actually, I did not like the dish! It was too 'oniony' for me to eat by itself (it's onions browed in butter, beef broth, whipped cream, swiss and parmesan cheeses, and a little flour.....that's it). What I am doing with the rest of it is to make it the base for scalloped potatoes....it's either that or bring my friend a bowl full of it every day for a week!
-
Ruthbru- I hear you on too much onions. I worked at a univ. back east for about a year and a half and someone made a vadalia onion pie there once. Don't get me wrong, I like onions but agree a dish of them is often too much (never mind a desert made from them)!
I bet your friend would love more if you can get over to see her again soon too!
-
I baked up the rest of the onion mixture with a lot of potatoes and carrots. I will have to bring her a bowl and see what she thinks.

Missed a day. Yesterday, I am grateful for a wonderful day spent with family in Kingston. The kids played in the pool (so did some adults), the men had a horseshoe tournament, everyone took photos except me - and I took 2 cameras, just forgot - 8 different kinds of ribs, (the eldest of the family won, so I guess its a skill acquired with time) then we rounded it off with a campfire. Absolutely fabulous day. To top it off, a good night's sleep!Today I am grateful for laughter at breakfast with the 8 who stayed over, an uneventful 4 hour drive home and then.... staining the deck after some repairs were done and a few loose things made tight again. Tomorrow - new hardware for the gate.
Ruth, you're great! And that does sound like a good base for scalloped potatoes.
Jazzy, glad you're feeling a bit better.
Maddy, I don't even know what a bag of dried ham cooked beans is?
-
Ruth, that sounds to me! Love to make a huge pan of carmelized onions, they shrink down to nothing. Put a little warm onions in salads, makes a great French onion soup so those sound delish.
On a food roll, here's the ham beans:
There are also generic bags in the dried peas/lentils section. They have all kinds of recipes, I just use the bag, a bay leaf and then add cubed ham at the very end so it doesn't get tough. Great for leftover ham. A half a bag makes plenty for the two of us (with leftovers for DH's lunch) too.
8/24: grateful for a long great night sleep. Found a couple great jobs I applied to, we'll see what happens.
-
8/23 - grateful I got to spend time with my friend from Tennessee as she came through on her way to Fiji and Vanuatu, we celebrated her 70th birthday with a traditional Sunday roast dinner on a Saturday with roast lamb, and roast vegetables followed by a pavlova for dessert.
8/24 - grateful to celebrate the joy of a soon to be bride at her bridal shower

Grateful I live in a place with clean, good tasting water.
-
8/25- grateful we finally started the new flooring project today and everything is looking so nice!
-
8/25: grateful for a busy couple of days. Finally completed a total re-vamp of resume and cover letter, completed my online traffic school (over 7 hours for the on-line course, less than 5 minutes to take the test, with a 96%, no less) and had very interesting soul-searching conversations with friends the last couple of days. I knew I haven't been in the "best" of spots, my friends helped me put many things into perspective. Also grateful that being a little "sneaky" was a good thing, a very good thing.
-
I am grateful for the sunshine

Today I am grateful for a really nice evening spent with 2 new friends. They came up from Ohio to do a fixed asset audit and I invited them over for a bbq. They stayed until 1130pm. Way past my bedtime but the conversation was so interesting that we didn't notice the time.
-
Grateful for an absolutely beautiful day!
-
Grateful that the work on my kitchen has begun, refacing the cabinets, and it will all look new by the weekend -

yes, we're a bit strange in Cali! Yep, all my 40+ years of driving meaningless compared to Internet. Lol!
8/26: grateful I got thru a very difficult day. First, learned a very valuable lesson. Yesterday I dropped a coin purse (which contained 2 flash drives) on the floor of a store, contents rolled over shelf. Embarrassed, retrieved the items. Needed the drives last night, no where to be found, called store, not turned in. Didn't know exactly what was on either except some photos, college transcripts (like back in the day when they used SSN), jobs apps - and whatever else. Realized I probably should have an OWNER INFO on all flash drives just so someone could contact me if anything ever happened to them. Very grateful I found them this afternoon.
Second, went with Dad to a local cemetery earlier in the day to transfer pre-need funeral arrangements for both mom and him. Grateful that's out of the way.
