This is the Mangle
-
don't recall anyone with that contraption. Looks like my great aunts washing machine lol

I've seen these, but we were not "posh" We had an ironing board and iron instead. (And a step stool so we little ones could help with the ironing) Everything had to be ironed, very few artificial fibers when I was young.

I used to use a mangle when I had to iron sheets. It was in the basement and my Mom put a TV down there for entertainment. That was huge because TV was kinda new. This was in the 1950s.

Great picture SoCalLisa. We always wore hats for Easter when I was a kid. Don't think they do that anymore.
-
My Dad took the picture after he had returned home from WWII.
-
I love smocking on little girls dresses. Gorgeous picture.
-
Oh my, Lisa, your mom looks so chic! Love the little dress and I agree with Melissa, that picture is Gorgeous with a capital G!
-
SoCal, beautiful picture. I love the way you are looking at one another...so poignant, so loving.

If any of you sew for little girls there is a fabric store with a website called Chadwick's Heirlooms. They have tons of beautiful smocking & trims.

I've got a scar right between my eyes from 1960s aluminum frame sling style walker. picked it up and ran in it and went over the curb into the garden edging (also metal).
-
This was the stroller I had in the 50's in addition to a Pram...one sat in the seat....one on the back with legs going forward and one on the tray holding on......LOL they were 3, 2 and 1.........

Remember when our Mothers wouldn't let us run under the sprinklers because it might cause Polio??

My sister is a teacher & she just commented Sunday that she'd feel a lot better about the first day of school if she could find her Partridge Family lunch box:)
