One more question, who schedules and does follow-up for your mammograms!  I seem to have some confusion here!  My surgeon so far, has been the one to do this, yet my MO had tried to schedule the last one and was supposed to get a copy of the results, but didn't seem very interested yesterday when I saw him!  Does this mean that he is trusting the surgeon?  And is this normal for the surgeon to be following this?  My surgeon and MO practice at completely different hospitals!!  So they do not communicate!

Nettie,  my surgeon didn't have anything else to do with me, after the 6 month check-up.  It was my Primary Care that ordered the mammograms, and they were "Diagnostic" mammograms, which meant they would read them right then.  I have one yearly now....

If you have an Oncologist, maybe THEY take over, but I don't, so I just see a Primary Care every year for the physical with blood work, and ordering the Mammograms.  All you have to do is ask.....

I think I had them scheduled every 6 months for awhile, but not anymore....   I'm almost 5 years out.....

Yes, Chevy, mine are diagnostic, but for some reason, when I was just out from Rads, my MO ordered a diagnostic Mammo of only my unaffected boob....when my surgeon saw this, he was not pleased and said from then on, he would order my mammo and so he does!!  I really like my surgeon and I mostly like my MO, and I do request that the results from all tests are sent to both!!  However, the mammo didn't get sent to MO and he didn't seem concerned!  And when I saw him yesterday, he never visually examined me, he mashed around a little under my bra for my boobs, never got under my arm, and then on top of my shirt and pants for mashing around my stomach and groin area!  Just seemed weird!

Yes, does to me too.... I think unless you have a specific complaint about something YOU can feel, they figure all is well.  My PC doesn't do any of that either.... just a general exam.... so I am not worried when I can't feel anything, or nothing hurts....

That's my problem, I do hurt, but it is dismissed, I've asked for scans, been denied by Dr and insurance and probably denied by insurance because dr doesn't really think it necessary.

    Good day, Owlettes!

    Want to
share a PM I got from Jwoo last night (yes, she said I could share): in
response to what I could to help her (besides prayers and sending hugs), this
    was her response:

    “No-
just a lot to do and organize. He is in Ohio, and I am in Texas, so it is a
little bit of a juggle, but I think i have most of it figured out now. My
friend is doing okay, no brain damage, and they should be able to save his arm.
He was coming home from a funeral when a truck swerved into his lane and hit
him on his motorcycle head-on. He is a tattoo artist and owns his own shop, so
it isn't like he's rich. He's lucky to be alive, but they are having to replace
the bones in his left arm with metal, and just got all the blood vessels and
nerves reattached, and his left leg had all but one bone broken in it. He's a
mess, but a tough guy. anyhow- thank you and let all the girls know that
i am thinking of them and will be back soon. “

We discussed having a roll call like some of the other threads do. I know that I always feel like I'm forgetting someone so I compiled a list of those who have been on IT the last couple of months. Am considering posting BUT I know there are some who will object - which is perfectly fine, but I'm not up for the rude comments that come from doing such things. This list just has our avatars and any names we have also used (with the exception of phgraham, she has had so many other names here on IT I only the frequently-used ones). For those who haven't been seen on IT in a while, I have researched the last times they were on IT vs being on BCO (meaning, they may be lurking or no longer interested in IT). Remember I can always go back and edit.

Before I post the list, any thoughts? (This isn't a list with personal info, only things that anyone can search for BCO).

    Enerva - Gorgeous pics!

Chevy - If we go camping (highly unlikely) I have thought about putting Vicks on my exposed skin to keep the bugs off. Somehow the big guns chemicals make me nervous!

PattyPeppermint - UGH! DH had that stomach virus a few weeks ago. The nurse at Kaiser said there were three different stomach bugs going around! I know he was  miserable... I hope you are feeling much better now....

JWoo - so sorry to hear about your friend's accident! My brother rolled his motorcycle (all by himself!) a few years ago and was SO lucky - I think his entire lower leg is all metal now... your friend's injuries sound terrible, but fixable. Prayers for a complete recovery!

Oh, Nettie... I am so sorry you are having pain, coupled with the obvious anxiety that your doctors are not doing their jobs. But I have to wonder... did you never have pain before BC? I have had chronic pain since 2001. I have a standing order for narcotics. I've used a wheelchair when I was too disoriented from balance disorders to walk. But I learned how to pay close attention not only to my body, but the way the doctors treated me.

When doctors ask questions, it doesn't mean they think there is something terrible wrong with you. It's just protocol. They have to go through a prescribed list in order to RULE OUT various conditions. The fact that you can answer "no" to things like "Do you have trouble breathing?" is actually a very good thing, and you should stop thinking about it right now.

Pain makes us anxious, and anxiety increases our pain. It also keeps us from thinking logically about whether or not there is a crisis or not. Usually there is not.

I can't begin to guess what ailments you have, and I don't know you, but I can tell you that there is a time for anger and frustration, and a time for acceptance.

I have a degree in medical counseling, and yet I don't try to second-guess my doctors. Yes, I have fired a PCP who wanted to argue with my Oncologist, and I got a wonderful new doc in the process. But every single doctor and hospital has a huge list of regulations as to what kind of leeway they have in ordering tests for their patients.

Sometimes it sounds from your posts as if you suspect mets from each new pain or ailment you feel. That is going to make you VERY frustrated and scared. I think we all feel somewhere in the backs of our minds that a recurrence MAY be a possibility, but we can't live our lives terrified of the likelihood.

PLEASE take this post in the spirit in which it was intended. This forum is for support... and acceptance... and reassurance.... and comfort..... and I want you to know I wish all these things for you.

But at some point, we have to be realistic as to how much of what we are feeling is severe enough to have fixed, and how much is just the normal progression of whatever disabling conditions we have. I have degenerative disk disease, scoliosis, anterolisthesis at L3-L4, spinal stenosis, and fibromyalgia. There is never a day when my back does not hurt, even on drugs. But that's just the hand I was dealt.

I've gone through a ten week Chronic Pain Management program, and have a Pain Management rehab doctor. I know what is possible to fix (nothing) and things that I can do to lessen the pain. (Oh yeah, they thought I fractured my tailbone in my recent spectacular fall.)

But not once did I ever think that any of these pains in the past 3 years were associated with mets.

I agree with spookiesmom... if you are really dissatisfied with your doctors, find a second opinion. Yes, docs can make mistakes. They can let things slip through the cracks. But they usually don't.

Learn to keep good records of your symptoms and the conditions under which they appeared. Take in a good list of these, plus a list of questions for your doctors, and if they give you a good answer, try to see the truth in what they say. If you feel you are not getting good service, then really, the only other choice is to seek out another opinion from a different doc.

I feel for you. I have lived with pain for so long, I wouldn't know what to do if I woke up without it. However, I have friends who are much worse off than I am, and I try my best to think about all the things I still CAN do, not the things I can't.

Sending you big comfort hugs, and hoping that if you are not getting anywhere with the questions you ask about your physical conditions, you may want to ask your doc about your anxiety when it comes to thinking about them.

    xoxoxo

Blessing u said it all for Nettie--I too have all that u have but not FibroM--thank God, but I never thought about it being cancer even tho I never had anything like this before--I've gone to PT and stuff but nothing is going to make it better, u just accept it and that's it. Oh wait I do take pain meds, I don't take strong  ones tho cuz I have a responsibility to my job--hahahahaha If u guys believe that WOW--plus u all know how screwed up my organs are and they are all over the place (not in the right place and it hurts-so why no one knows. But they are livable.

Jwow--OMG u'r poor friend that horrible and he works with his hands it's so important for his arms to heal properly. I hope all goes well for him.

Nettie I think we all worry about u'r anxiety thru this more thn anything, cuz it does make pain worse, it's hard not to think it's attacking again but u have to try really hard to be positive, don't borrow trouble, it'll find you when it wants to. xxxoooxxx

Nettie please don't stop telling us how u feel, cuz that's why we're all here. We all care, we just want u to feel better so we give u our view point of what we're going thru, so u don't feel alone. That doesn't mean u should settle for no tests, I think u should push for them so u'd know wht's going on. And at this point u might have damaged bones.. So u might be able to take something to help.xxxoooxxx

    Hi all,

Susan, you look great without hair. Thanks for showing us your pics.

Enerva, I hope there is nothing going on with your sterum. I love the pics, interesting bathroom light.

Nettie, I think you need to call doctor back, and just ask for consultation appointment. You can sit with him and ask all your questions so you can relieve your concerns.

Chevy, love the owl pics. And Cami I hope your mind is less floppy tonight.

The pool sounds really nice Blueberry. And PattyPepperment I hope you are feeling better.

JWoo, so sad about your friend. Keep us posted on his recovery process.

Blessings, what is a medical counselor? Do you talk to patients prior and after surgery?

2nd...I am so old school I have no idea what you are talking about IT and BCO and roll call...explain please :/

    Hi spookies and hi Sas

My iron Infusion canceled today cause my labs are whacked out. My serum iron and iron saturation low, but my ferritin shot up to 575. So getting a break from infusion for one month. Added thyroid med to the mix of meds to help with fatigue. Labs again today is looking for inflammation. Should know soon I hope. In the mean time I'm enjoying not smelling and tasting yucky iron :)

Hugs to all, sorry if I missed anyone.

Paw, good question, you kind of answered your own question. Like trying to figuring out who we're missing. A roll call identifies members of the group. Remember the Mickey Mouse Club Roll Call? At the beginning, they shouted their own names, just identifying all the Mousekateers.

    Sassy explains roll-call:

LMG that was a problem with the list. As I said earlier some people choose not to give information. Each time I updated it and moved it forward, I would announce that I was updating and if info needed added please Pm me. What was great about the list was to be able to recognize who was who. Great for newbies to the thread. In looking at the list, not sure why I didn't have some names as me as their contact. Like flowers?

I already left a message on her recorder :)

Enerva ROLL CALL-------Lol. I think it's originally a military term. Used to take attendance or establish presence.

    -----------

    Example of roll call:

Funny, I used to help maintain an active acronym list when I worked for a major aerospace co.

    BCO = BreastCancer.Org

    IT = Insomniacs thread

Glad you get a 1 month break. Hoping that helps, take it easy and enjoy Annie Mae and Snuggs.

PM from Tang, She been dealing with the funeral this week and other stuff. So, she will be back when things calm down :)

PhillyinHouston starts her second round of chemo today.

I was trying to find something in the Just Diagnosed -Get Prepared Thread.  Couldn't find it, but had to read/scan allot. It's got allot of good info on it. If you have given it a read, try it you may find some pearls to make your lives easier.

    https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/5/topic/7...

Paws I was reading some of the thyroid /iron stuff, none of it was sticking. Not sure why I'm not getting my head around it. AH-Hah maybe it's cuz I need more thyroid meds, or a different type. What did you get?

2TA if you want to start a ROLL Call list just do it. You have already got an extensive list started. That's a big part of the work. I wouldn't put people on the list that are rare posters, just to lengthy. Then if after you start it and Jwoo wants to take it over when she comes back. All she has to do is a Cut and Paste. Actually I did just this when I made the list on STFU. I was a newbie on the thread. Couldn't keep anyone straight. RED had just gone MIA, and then we found out she passed. So, I made a list.

Regretfully, I have found Free Cell on my computer. Way to addicted to it.

Big Smile today!!  Happy Friday!!  I love the George Jones song, Finally Friday!!  Just always makes me smile, especially the really silly version!!  Wish I could post here, but I'm sure you've all heard it!   Heard it on my way to work this morning and I've been smiling ever since!  Oh and it did help that I had my GD riding with me, I dropped her off at my parents house for the day!!  But she also always makes me smile!

    image

At our pond, she was determined to catch a fish, I was on the dock with her and I was just telling her that the fish had gone to bed and we were walking off  and she was sulling and dragging the pole in the water with the bait hanging about 8 inches from the end and she drug it over a log and as soon as it dropped off the log, that little bass grabbed it!  It sucked the bait in so hard I had to get DH to get  hook out of mouth!!  Then she wanted to hold it!!  Please excuse my fat self in the back ground!!

Accentuate the Positive--Lyrics by Johnny Mercer 1944

Sung by Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters, 1944

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZUmAbi0Vm4

    (one verse and the chorus)

You've got to accentuate the positive
    Eliminate the negative
And latch on to the affirmative
    Don't mess with Mister In-Between

You've got to spread joy up to the maximum
Bring gloom down to the minimum
    Have faith or pandemonium's
Liable to walk upon the scene
