smarty. Yum yum. That looks so delicious. Not sure how you got your name smarty" but it seems to fit. You are so talented. Now do I understand correctly you are gonna make a shirt like Enervas?

So many birthdays lately. So many reasons to celebrate. Wish we could all jump in a plane and meet some where tropical to celebrate. Yes Cami, a party.  Maybe cami can organize it all. Now to pay for it all :  if only I could win the lottery without actually playing ...hmmm...gotta kept thinking on that one. May have to put SAS on it. She can figure out anything!

Badger thanks for sharing. Just helps remind me you never not what is going on in other people life's. That person I am fussing at the stoplight , the crazy coupon lady taking firever in the hand ahead of me etc. Gotta cut people some slack right. Your mom sounds like one tough lady. So sweet she has you and vice versa. Enjoy whatever time you have together.

Badger so nice to see you, Sorry that happened to your Dad. Your Mom was a soldier. Alzheimers is on my Dads side too. We're all hoping we got Mom's genes on that one. Lots of longevity into their 90's with faculties intact. Here's hoping :) Too bad re: care and not considering it a skill. Altered mental status patients are the hardest to access b/c they can't really tell you. Assessment is the strongest skill of all. Without it, you might as well not have a nurse at all.

PPatty, lol  your funny, luvya for it.

Chevy, Cami, LMG Spookie, Phyllis, Blondie---heard from SweetPea----she's doing good, Austins growing like a weed, Tim is good, New house is good, She's working. No mention of BC assuming that's all good. I called her on my B-day. She Pm'd back. :)

    Blessings waving...........

    Jwoooohooooooo waving...................

    Tang waving......................................

2TA too :)....................LMG tooooooooooo, love the goat clips on wimp, com and youTube. Never knew they were so playful.

Enerva, what are you selling them for. 30-40 dollars . Everyone should suggest what number they'd part with. I tend to be cheap. You may get higher suggestions. LOL,Particularly,  since they are sooooooooosexy they could draw a lot higher price. I might even go higher. But I'd be deluding myself OH ahem LOL.

Hope everyone's Sunday is going well. Got my car repaired. The battery leaked onto the battery cable and corroded the connection. I will post a before repair pic, it looked really gross. I never noticed it because the battery has a black cover over it. I spent the majority of my day yesterday getting this repair done, so today I'm relaxing watching movies on tv with my fur babies.

Happy Birthday Blondiex...I hope you get to celebrate big time.

Love the knitted tops Enerva, you do very nice work.

Sas, I did some research on the thyroid and anemia connection earlier ths year. The doc checked and ran the separate values for thyroid and of course said my thyroid was fine. I questioned my T3 value, but doc thought since it was 'within range' there was no reason to suspect anemia connected. So still the great unknown as to why my iron saturation/storage is low. Infusions do help, but only short term. I'm still researching it and challenging the doc. At least the doc listens and orders tests when I'm concerned. I'm just tired of being tired.

Hi 2nd, hope you are doing well.

Cami, you got me with that lamp pic...we all have dirty minds on this site.

Enerva, Such beautiful pics. It looks so peaceful in your area . I'm sorry you are having joint pain. What do you do for the pain besides walking? Is 2 km over 2 miles? I'm so bad with the math conversion.

What are the beginning signs of Alzheimer's?  Is/are they different from dementia? Reason I'm asking is DH. Three times this week he has said stuff that is just really spacey. Not the first time, and DD is starting to notice little things too.

He will be 70 in Oct. his dad had Alzheimer's, a stroke got him first. I see the same PCP but don't know if I should say anything to doc.

    Thoughts?

Hi Spookiesmom, Alz and most dementias, have some very similar patterns but are different. A neurologist is the one to do a thorough check. If you can speak to his  regular doc before hand,he can do what they call a mini mental check on his next visit. I would not wait, as there are meds. that can slow down the progression, so if his dad had it I would have him evaluated. I have joined Alzconnected. org. a great group of people with lots of  helpful hints and a fountain of information. There is also hotline you can call with people on hand that are a great resource. You can also find some tests on line, with a few questions and small tasks for a quick check. There are many other things that can cause memory problems, so he should get a good physical. Thyroid problems, low B12 levels, medications and the one that knocked my MIL off of her feet, urinary tract infection. Best of luck. Stephanie B.

Paws the standard three are TSH, T3, Free T4........ The new one I've learned about is Reverse T3 --RT3.  From T4 >>T3 and RT3 are formed. They both attach to receptor sites on the cell wall. But RT3 once attached is very binding to the receptor site. It's a pretender--doesn't work and prevents T3 from attaching.

T3 the good hormone is prevented from attaching to the cell wall, therefore, can't do it's work.

RT3- is a essentially a bad hormone.  It's testing I have never heard of, but there are labs that will test for it.

Why it isn't accepted by mainstream medicine, I don't know. Not there yet :) More to read and search. But the fact that it's identified as attaching to a receptor site and prevents T3 from attaching, is similar to many other chemical descriptions that are already known to me. The fact that it can be measured says that someone went through the steps to develop a test. Why develop a test that has no value. Why develop a formula to show the ratio of the two.

I will pursue answers until I'm convinced of value.

There are other tests identified on the web site. but the RT3 seems at present to explain why the cell doesn't respond. The mainstream medical community sets the standard on primarily TSH.  My TSH has been tight at the low end of the old standard. The new standard is the lower end of the old range. I have been in that range since 2007. If the standard was correct, I should feel fine. I don't---oodles of s/s's head to toe--literally hair to toenails signs of malfunction.

The lab value for TSH, T3, and T4 measures the amount of hormone circulating in the blood. No lab value can show how functional a chemical is. It is presumed that an accepted normal value means normal function. This is not true or may not be true.

Measurement level does not = applied function. (hells bells, now I sound like Sheldon).

Let me give you an example of a  two different chemicals that bind to the  4 hemaglobin receptors on the red blood cell. Oxygen (O2) and Carbon Monoxide(CO). O2 provides the life giving chemical that allows cells to live. When CO is is present, it binds to the hemaglobin(HGB) receptors on the red blood cell. CO has a stronger binding power to the HGB receptor than O2. O2 can't knock CO off.  Too much CO, we die. This concept is known to me.

This RT3 and T3 relationship is new to me. Need to continue learning.

The STTM web site talks allot about iron connection and thyroid, this is, also, new info for me. Particularly, if the iron is low a problem can occur. There is so much new learning, it will take time for me to digest it. Thought I'd let you know b/c of your low iron problem. I thought you might want to read too.

Spookie-- the minimum before considering any fancy testing is the basics.  Take to PCP. things that should be measured--Oxygen saturation, glucose level, blood pressure, pulse ,respiration. Ascertain any recent injury. Labs minumum CBC, CMET, UA, next level blood test, Folate, B12, TSH. The PCP will take it from there.

If you have an acute onset change  and are concerned, call EMS they can measure all the basics, do an assessment and  in concurrence with medical control by radio determine if the acute change needs transport to ER.

Sorry I missed your call :)

ok, now I know I have found where people are still awake!

While I am continuing to deal with weekly abraxane, neuropathy, lymphadema, difficulty walking, and more, I wouldn't trade it for what my sis and her DH are going through. After driving across the country in a big motor home with grandkids in it, his behavior became bizarre enough to warrant head scans. He is hoping to have a huge glioblastorma removed in the morning. Sis is aware that he might not even have the surgery if it has grown, and that his baseline will never return to "normal.'

Isn't there a verse that says what does a man gain if he gains the whole wold but loses his soul? Something like that. Praying for Mike and the battle just beginning.

    Loved th moon tonight.

Welcome ADJ, sorry to hear about Mike. Sounds like your sister is really dealing with a lot. People here post day and night, it's a very friendly group.

Sas, thank you for the info about iron and thyroid test. I remember when I was researching the forum on the STTM site. Lots of people are dealing with symptoms because of thyroid issues. It is very aggravating that most docs don't take it seriously, or push the same tests, looking at the same values and then prescribing the same old thyroid medications. My doc checked adrenals , cortisol, and standard thyroid test and then iron.

Great pic of the monn Blessings.

I hope yor friend gets better quicklly JWOO

LittleDutch!  Could it be something like THIS?  I put on my Dick Tracy detective hat, and went searching ..... and this one is called a coral mushroom, or something similar.  The leaves look similar underneath the growth, and that is all I could come up with.

Mushrooms come up all shapes and sizes.... Just ask ME, because I had some coming up in my yard once, that looked exactly like a Peter Murphy Had a Dog!  I even picked it, and took it into work, exclaiming that "My God, I am growing them WILD!"  I know I didn't PLANT them, they just came up!  Several times now!   I am rather sad when they don't come up....

    Fungus or plant?

Okay, I think 2km's are about 2 blocks.....  I might be wrong.... and  maybe I really am....  ???   Enerva, yes, you should wear that DAHLING top and go for your walks!  Oh wait... you are in Ontario...It must be beautiful there!

Morning NewAnita!  You need a couple more things to be going through yourself, it looks like...  Yikes!  So sorry about your  SIL!  Maybe it was just a temporary thing?  Of course I know NOTHING when it comes to that, but hopefully his body will repair itself, and he will be thinking straight again!

I had a very serious head injury when I was a kid, and since that was before X'rays or anything were invented, I I just had to live with it.....  Seriously!  But over time, an injury DOES have a chance of normalizing.  I just made that up.  But mine did.  And so now I am normal.....

Shut UP Cammi!  Wherever you are, and sleeping through every live-long day!  Wake up!  We have a new gal!  She needs our help.

When my Grandma was going through this...." Dementia" stuff.......  At the time, the Docs told me that they couldn't tell for SURE what it was, only after she passed....  But at that time, maybe 30 years ago, they didn't have the tests...  Her Dementia just progressed, and I was told we couldn't slow it down....  I took her in for "tests" but they were like pictures, or objects, and she was supposed to say what they were, but she couldn't, and I started crying, and told them, I think I am taking her back to the Home, because this isn't doing anybody any good!

So I just told her, We are not doing THAT again, and we stopped for a hamburger.  I KNEW what was going on....  any test would not help her...  it just frustrated her, and  I was going to protect her from things that didn't matter....  By this time, she forgot she even had kids...everything..... but it didn't matter.  She lived in a nursing home by this time, and I could run see her every day that I had off.

When things like this happen to our loved ones, we just have to sit down, and think, okay, what is the best way I can help her/him.   And sometimes "nothing" is the best thing.  Just be there, and listen, and make sure they have the best help,  and you will learn to love them with everything you have....  You won't care that they can't  do simple little things... you will just help them through it....  and not ask questions when you know they can't answer....

In her case, it just steadily took over her life....  There was nothing anyone could do.....  just be there.

I simply told the Home,"PLEASE don't get her up and try and make her eat.... she can't!  She can't swallow!  She just wants to stay in bed, and make sure she has her leg-warmers on, and  tell her I will be there!"    By this time nothing else mattered.....

Sorry..... guess I just got carried away, but sometimes we just have to accept what is going on in our lives.....  Fight like Hell as long as we can, and for everyone we love, but then there is also a time, when  our lives take a different turn, and  then we have to leave it up to Him.....

Good Morning Jwow!  So sorry about your friend....!  Come by when you can..... let us know.... okay?
