And a white pelican...they migrate through here in January..they stop at a local pond, eat all the fish and leave..the poor critters who live there move on

Lisa, I was down at my mom's which is three hours south of Chicago where I live. I took this at a Lake in my home town in central Illinois. I can't remember without looking at my pics when this was actually taken. It was in the fall I believe and I had seen an article about the hundreds of pelicans that were migrating through Illinois and where they were so I went searching for them. I didn't see the hundreds but saw a few and this one was the closest and bravest. I love bird photography but when I have looked into special lens more telescopic than  I already have they are so ridiculously expensive and heavy which are both obstacles. Some of the Nikor lens are $10,000. Not in my lifetime!

I am on my phone so can't delete the last picture. But when I drove by and saw them I went back home and got my camera. I have just a 50 X optical zoom on my only one lens camera. I will never be able to get the best shots like Mumito ' s husband does. But maybe in my next life. image

My last few days of rads I was thrilled to see these two swans I had been watching over the course of the last few weeks in this retention pond among corporate office buildings. One day I didn't see the two swans in the water but I saw them in the grass with their little babies. I was thrilled. Today was my last time at this clinic for a while but I want to go back and see if I can get a good up close pic with Mom, Dad and babies.

Lisa, do you zoom and crop for your pelican shots or is your zoom so far reaching that you can get those up close shots just like we see them. Makes me want to blow off the dust on my old bridge camera and try some birds with that and compare to my SLR.

Thanks Lisa. I was hoping to get over to where the swans and their babies were today but went to the movies with some friends and then hung out at Starbucks for a while and it was past dinner time by the time I got home. I am having a stress test tomorrow because I opened my big mouth to my RO and said I was having some chest pains. I am pretty sure it is muscular but my primary doc said we have no way of knowing. So right when I think I am finally done with active treatment and wham-----another procedure. I just hope I won't get another shock this year.

What kind of software do you use of photo editing?

I was looking at all of your bird photos. Just amazing. I am so envious of all the beautiful birds you have right in your own backyard practically. I didn't even know blue herons existed. Some of your duck photos don't even look real the colors are so vivacious. Just incredible.

Generally I use Picasa..it is sooooo fast and friendly..I can edit up to 50 pix in half an hour...if I do need to work on something more,  I used to use lightroom, but I can't get it to load into my new computer so I use Canon's Digital Photo professional that came with my camera..SX 50 HP

I like picasa because after I edit some photos of an event I can just press collage and I have an instant collage and I can add text right away to identify the people place and date...

Thanks Lisa. I was looking into photo editing software in the winter and now I will have to do the research all over because with the bc detour I can't remember what conclusion I had come to. I love white egrets. I have made numerous trips to where I can find them here in Illinois. That was when I realized I needed a more powerful zoom lens than I had. They tend to be quite nervous around humans at least in this area. I couldn't get close enough to my satisfaction.

I love the collage feature. Beautiful pics as usual.

I think the guy's name is Ken Rockwell who has many reviews of camera equipment online. He is always a proponent of getting up as close to your subject as possible rather than having long telescopic lens. I guess those pics shows you can do that. Beautiful.

I saw that this Malaysian plane that got shot done had some medical researchers going to an Aids conference in Australia. Made me think of you. What a senseless tragedy.

    Hi ladies.

On my way to radiation I saw these two swans. That is something we don't see too often around here. My last few treatments voila- five babies. I finally got a chance to get back there today to find them. They were so cute!

Our baby robins have feathers now and peer over the nest. They're working on their wing muscles too.

Thank you ladies. This was my first time out shooting since my diagnosis. It felt so great. Lisa, this is my first try at photo editing. I tried to download Picasa and my virus software kept blocking it so I just used Windows Photo Gallery.

Lisa, love your hummingbirds. A few days ago was the first time EVER that I saw a hummingbird actually land in my backyard tree. Of course my camera was upstairs. I don't feed the hummingbirds. Maybe if I did I could get some good up close pics like yours. Just beautiful.

Wren, your baby robins sound like so much fun to watch.

Absolutely Lisa. I have an injured rotator cuff so that was part of the problem besides the cancer stuff. I am on the mend in all departments. I think I just might get my life back after all and with desiring to get the most out of each day maybe more so than before the dx.
