I first visited BCO when I had just completed chemo. So anxious to get over the SEs I glommed on to threads that told me how to make my hair grow faster, get over my neuropathy etc. I spent a lot of money on all these supposed "fixes" and aids, because I didn't know any better. Not one of them worked, and I should have paid attention to my oncology team which, by the way, did not, and will not, recommend this site to their patients. Why? Too much "woo" crap masquerading as truth for the vulnerable.
However, I soon learned to stick to threads that were supportive and friendly -- this one, for instance. I do treasure BCO for allowing me to meet absolutely wonderful BC "sisters", many of whom I've personally met.
But....allowing the very stuff that Sunflowers, thenewme and many others have publicly derided to flourish by the Mods, without frequently reminding posters that these are "theories" without any scientific basis, is what keeps oncology teams such as mine away from this site. Yes, we are all encouraged to do our own research, and thankfully we have Beesie who actually has a background in research to do a lot of it for us. In fact, BCO owes Beesie a great, great deal, as do we all. The very fact that she sticks around, often suffering the slings and arrows of her detractors, demonstrates her integrity and generosity. Thank you, Beesie!

RR, how pretty. That was one of the first pictures ( by Van Gogh ) that I had hanging in my house when I got married....long, long ago.

Hi Buddies,What the hell is going on around here? I left for Roanoke about 10:00 a.m. and all was well with the world. I come home and find out Sunny is banned for life! Somebody clue me in. It can't be that GNM is allowed to be touted as a cure for breast cancer, but Sunny is banished.
Will somebody please PM or email me Sunny's address or email. I don't want to lose touch with her. I would really like to send her something by snail mail.
Blue and River ... love the Sunflower pictures. Sunny would love them too. Can she still read here, just not post? Can she get PM's here even if she's banned? I don't know how this works.
Jackie ... it is hotter than blazes here today. And the humidity is off the chart. I can't walk the dogs as we'd all pass out on the trail and nobody would find us for at least a week! Will have to walk them early tomorrow a.m.
You guys mean the world to me ... it's hard to believe Sunnyflowers can't be here. She's the leader of the scooter gang for pete's sake.
hugs and love,
Bren

She could read, as anyone can. Her userid has been removed. She cannot login nor receive private messages.
I have no words to explain how I feel about this. I've enjoyed BCO but cannot fathom banning someone because they intensely do not want to see people injured by fakes. It's not healthy to encourage people who are scared for no apparent reason to remain scared. This is a moderated site and so we need to stay within the rules, but sometimes it's equally important to challenge those rules when it appears they can be causing damage to people.
What happens when someone decides to not visit a real doctor and get a real diagnosis based on what they read here at BCO? And then they die? It makes no sense to me that someone would be banned for pointing out that one should see a doctor.
Also, what's the deal with locking a thread? I've never seen that before and now a couple threads have been locked within a matter of days! The people on the threads were not being rude. The threads werent out of control. I'm really perturbed. -
I don't want to lose touch with Sunny either. I'm really bummed and in tears off and on over this.

I was reading this hoping it would be a distraction -- not sure it reached all that well, but I put it here for anyone else. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/06/18/brent-douglas-cole/

Adding another here which maybe should have had the number 1 slot: Way too funny along with very much true. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/06/18/ammosexual-shoots-off-manhood/

I really do not understand the moderation here. People providing life threatening information are supported to the extent that the Truth-tellers are banned for life.
When provided PROOF of persons with multiple user IDs and abuse of the Report feature, they do nothing.
Do these people contribute more to BCO than the rest of us? Is that what it takes to get fairness? I've supported BCO in the past. Hell, I've even sent pizza to the staff to show gratitude for their efforts. That was a long time ago.
Tell me, Mods, what does it take?
-
There are so many sock puppets or people coming back with new ID's, it's a joke. And some are here just to cause trouble, but they are allowed to stay.

Dear Members,
Members are banned for breaking community rules. They are usually offered warnings before a ban is placed. The decision to ban a member whether it be temporary or permanent is done rarely and with much consideration. We appreciate that such decisions are not necessarily easily understood or accepted by our members. To the best of our ability we are committed to maintaining a respectful community. In addition"The German Medicine" topic has been locked and its primary poster has been banned. We are reviewing our language on many forums as a result of constructive feedback from our members which is always welcome. Our goal as moderators, among other things, is to make the community a safe environment.
The Mods -
Thank you, Mods.
-
Please advise us of any people with multiple IDs and we will deal with them. Our abilities to find and delete these are greatly assisted by members reporting those who the KNOW have multiples. We can only act when we can be sure, by investigation, that the IDs are multiples by using our technical systems, but these are not infallible. We appreciate your help in such matters.
Regards, The Mods

Let me add my thank you to the Mods. I was really crushed to find Sunflowers banned and still am. Guess it will take awhile. I depended on her to fill in a lot of blanks for me. Still, I do know it is not easy to "police " a huge web-site.
I am also glad to hear that steps will be taken to oust banned people who have returned.

When a person is "banned for life" are all posts rom all threads removed as though they NEVER existed?
-
Mods- I don't care if you ever fix my inability to cut and paste or make it so I can post a picture with more than a 10% chance at success, that all pales in comparison to the thought of not having Sunny at BCO.
-
May we reassure you that the posts of SunflowersMA have not been deleted, as many of them are important to conversation strings and contain very useful insights that would otherwise be lost.
It was not a decision made lightly,
but in discussions with the whole team of Mods. She was banned due to repeatedly breaking our
Community Rules, despite multiple warnings.AliceInWonderland was Deleted, as were ALL his posts, by the way.
QuinnCat, how may we help you with cut and paste and photo posting? Have you tried following the Help file
-
Just imagining what our lioness would say or do about the ban on Sunny. Missing her and her boundless courage.
-
Mods, these are people that asked to have their accounts deleted, their posts removed and then came back with a different ID and IP address. Do they count?
I'd like to shame them on the open forum actually.
-
Blue, we'd prefer we kept this as peaceful as possible, and there's no benefit in putting yourself in the spotlight. If you could send us a PM with the members you're suspecting, we'll be happy to take a look. Please note: we do need to be positive that there is a violation occurring before we can take action; mere suspicions are not sufficient.
Thanks!
-
Well, I have seen a couple of strange things as of late. I also have "noticed" that people don't actually much change their style. I don't think anyone here would expect action on mere suspicion. I'm wondering if you have a way to be "positive". Anyway, I'm hoping that you do and some of the "offenders " can disappear back into the woodwork.

What community rules did Sunny violate? Not really expecting an answer from the mods, but maybe someone else here can clarify.

I note that page 1816 is showing up, but I can't get to it. anyone else having this problem?

I think sunny accused the Moderators of holding onto less than desirable members for monetary purposes. More view = more money.
Moderators - I sent you a PM re multiple user IDs.
