I like the lentil salad too. I cheaped out on the Kalamata Olives and just got plain ones. After tasting I put a bit more salt in, and it's tasty. Cutting tomatos gives me a rash, so I used diced from a jar. Probably fresh is better but....

It's hard to cook the darn lentils so they don't get mushy and fall apart.

Tomorrow is Yoga with my favorite teacher..

p.s. pitted the kalamatas myself...will definitely go with regular olives next time since the pitted kalamatas were 10.00 a jar!

I must have a small TJs. No steamed lentils there. But I may have to try steaming them. Maybe they keep their shape better. Think I'll get my camping stove out -- no reason to steam up the inside of my house when I'm paying for a/c.

Well I have health news ladies, I developed gout! I had been taking these vitamins to keep an eye disease away. Mac degeneration, I was taking one a day, but I finally read the instructions and it said two a day. Anyway I got gout, it is not a good thing!

But very treatable. Water and cherries did the trick fcr me. Anyway laura guess who gave up caffienated coffee? Never thought I would or could but gout changed my mind. Mine went all the way to my hip before I figured out what was wrong.

The detox I highly recommend, we all get in a rut thinking we must eat certain things, and if I can stop doing caffeinated coffee and any soda anyone can!

I saw that recipe with the goat cheese Rose, we are not raising dairy goats although middle one would in a heartbeat! Goat milk is just easier for your body to digest a lot of the time.

I am going to look up that fat smash diet, although I have enjoyed toying with a sugar busters approach to things. Sugar is my downfall, I thought it was chocolate but it is sugar.

I am off of creamer too, I use only milk in my coffee when I drink it. Today is my first cup since last week sometime. I am sticking to caffeine free, I am not going backwards!

wow, you learn something everyday, i did not know that gout was tied to arthritis for which i believe in glucosimin and and chondrodin and msm supplements working for my arthritis...

    got this off the web...
    Common Sense Remedies
To reduce pain and inflammation, apply a plastic bag containing a few ice cubes or a bag of frozen vegetables to the joint. This will help relieve painful swelling. Wrap the cold bag in a soft cloth or towel and hold it against the painful area for up to five minutes at a time, then repeat as needed.

If gouty arthritis runs in the family, men in particular should moderate their intake of alcohol, fats, and foods high in purines (chemicals essential to the production of uric acid). Also, keep your weight within recommended ranges.

During an acute attack, hold painful area for two minutes maximum under cold, running water for quick relief.

For short term relief, raw fruits, vegetables and their juices (especially celery, liquid chlorophyll, carrot, spinach and parsley) are recommended in large amounts. Whole grains, seeds and nuts can also be included.

Heating clay packs, steam compresses, sitz- baths, saunas and foot baths help to alleviate the pain.

Mash boiled potatoes and place on warm affected area. Tie a cotton cloth around to hold in place.

Avoid refined carbohydrates and saturated fats as well as trans-fatty acids in margarine, shortening, baked goods and commercial food preparations including salad dressings, which increase uric acid production. The omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids help reduce inflammation and prevent further attacks of gout, as they provide the body with essential nutrients. Flax seed oil and fish oils are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids.

Avoid saturated and hydrogenated fats, refined sugars, and foods and beverages containing caffeine. These promote inflammation, which increases the pain.

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables act to reduce the body's acidity, and they do not contribute to uric-acid buildup.

Increase your consumption of foods such as citrus fruits, berries, tomatoes, green peppers, and leafy greens, which are high in natural vitamin C and the bioflavonoids that reduce inflammation.

Consume cherries and cherry juice often. Cherries are an old nutritional remedy known to help reduce uric-acid levels.

Adopt a program of regular relaxation exercises and gymnastics. These can be of great benefit.

Drink plenty of liquid (at least eight glasses of distilled water daily) to keep the urine diluted and to promote the excretion of uric acid.

Eliminate alcohol. Alcohol increases uric acid levels by accelerating purine metabolism and impairing kidney function.
    ...............................

i gave up coffee at dx, but started drinking after tx to stay awake all day!

do decaf most of the time but there is is still caffeine in decaf...

i need to stop all coffee and just get my caffeine from green tea...

second interview today...first interview yesterday was a group interview, i swear i was the oldest by thirty years to the twenty peeps there...
didn't look it and didn't feel it...life is good!

it was so fun getting dressed up and going on an interview, huge steps for me in new normal land!

denise, continued strength and calm are being added to your healing powers from me!

rock on ladies! the fat smash diet is really good, day seven, feel fantastic...

Gout! What a strange thing. Is that where the back pain was coming from? There was an article in the Sunday New York Times about someone with it:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/20/magazine/20wwln_diagnosis.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

You may have to register with the site (it's free) to see it, it's in the Magazine section.

Keeping fingers crossed for Laura and the interview.

    Thanks Laura,
I am doing much better but sure can't wait to get this last darned drain out. But it sure isn't slowing down-doubtful that I will even get it out this week.
I walked a whole mile yesterday, and this morning walked a mile, and hope to get another mile in this evening. Had considered the fact that if I don't walk, then the drain might slow down. But if it slows down and is removed, and then I start to walk-won't the fluid build up too quickly?
My nurse doesn't seem to think that walking would hurt.
Had my Lat Flap almost 3 weeks ago. Walking, sitting- no pain, but getting in and out of car, bending, stretching- still a bit ouchy.
BTW, as I had expected, my plantars faciitis is much better since I have been a slug for 3 weeks.
Actually enjoying staying home and doing only embroidery.

    denise,
i think walking is good because it moves everything through and keeps those lymphs working keeping your immune system high...

drains are the worst! i had dreams about pulling them out...

but you do get them out and then they are gone!
keep that in mind and keep enjoying those things you love...

Great news on getting the job--what job is it? Curious folks out here!

BTW You're looking young and good--and employers aren't necessarily looking for twenty peeps. (You don't look much older than that yourself!!)

Sounds like you're havin' fun, being productive, and getting your life going there in southern California. I'm so happy for you...

Since we didn't jinx you, you can tell us now. Will you be behind a big silver machines taking orders for half-caf-skim-lattes or purring that you know just the top to go with the pants?

I'd say you'll be in the running if you show up on time, having already eaten breakfast and don't spend the entire day talk to your friends/family on the telephone! An awful lot of twenty-somethings fail those three altogether.

opening of furniture discount floor right across the street from where i live..

i am still tweaking my resume and next week seeing some agencies, just got back from the library, i mean Barnes and Nobles...

i am really looking forward to getting out of the house and around people again. i had a twenty-five year retail career and consider it my roots, so i am comfortable starting there...

but i am feeling lucky as it seems that the rate of unemployment here is very low and there are lots of good jobs available...

i am hoping for the opp to pick and choose...

i need to go back to work for benefits before my cobra runs out in two years... i like working and as long as i can keep myself stress free , it should be fun.

ginger, fullerton is right next door, i have a guest room and are waiting for you to come out this way!

i promise you a shopping extravaganza, good food, amazing people watching and a lot of laughs...so

    what are you waiting for?

rose, is son back to work?

kathy cg, i have developed some truncal lymphedema and can see how easy it would be to get frozen shoulder...how is yours doing?

my bf starts phase two of the fat smasher diet, today...not only is he loosing the lbs. all is tissue is softer feeling..in phase two, we get to add lean meats a whole egg and 1 1/2 slices of cheese to all the brown rice, yogurt, lentils and fruits and vegetables for three weeks...

he is so cute and committed to this. for him, being overweight is definitely heredity and something he has battled with all his life...

enjoy your fiber and colorful vegetables...and may fruit be all you need to stay sweet!

pineapples are a dollar a pound at Ralph's and delicous.

we, boyfriend and i, had a tailgate party last night with lentil salad, fruit salad, vegetable salad and a yogurt smoothie at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, at 9:25 you can see the fireworks at Disneyland form the stadium bar. we are going all week for red sox and angels series. our two favorite teams so we can root for both.
i have a red sox pink hat, my only pink thing...
and i have an angel rally monkey...

friday nite it is the yankees and the angels...definitely rooting 100% for the Angels that night!

wow, this must be very long, sorry!

    Laura,
I hope you like your new job. The only problem I can see is that if you want to call in sick, that you'd better not be seen puttering around in your yard!
But at least you can walk to work!

Thanks for the invite, sounds fun. May be a while--dh and I were just there in March and son was home for the summer. You MUST get to the Getty. (Do you like art, architecture, views of the city, a free place that's just wonderful (parking is $7.)? (Lots of people to watch too!!)

(I'll tell my son about the pineapple!)

Hey Laura - great you're joining the ranks of the employed! I hope they have the big burley guys around to do the furniture moving.

So this is a discount outlet with Macy's? That sounds promising.

Younger Son has been working. He's not on the official schedule yet, but he's been in twice this week. He's also got his parking pass and student ID so progress is being made.

    Older son is leaving Saturday.

I'm happy to say all that lentil salad got eatten.

Well well so much news! Thanks Laura for the rundown, the vitamins were heavy in lutein proteins. I need one a day, so I will get back to them once I feel confident about my managing gout. One article I found said more and more menopausal women are getting gout. I don't eat most of the foods that cause it so I am really thinking it was the vitamin.

Macys, furniture! Yay!!! I am loving my little job of a few hours a week. When people want to talk to me at my job I tend to duck and act disinterested. I am a clock, and I can only do one thing at a time well!

Big Wedding tomorrow, my best friend's daughter is getting married. It will be a party to end all parties! She graduated from Texas A&M earlier this month, and now she is off to live happily ever after and parents are thrilled.

Youngest's goat got urinary calculi(kidney stone), vet said bring him out. I did he operated let the middle one watch. His wife has hired the oldest to haul mineral tubs for her. Goat is doing great, oldest has a job and middle one loves watching the vet!

Can't decide what to cook with the cabbage I have for supper.

Had a nice time at a wedding this weekend. They're a handsome young couple, building a house on an island in Rhode Island. They picked the flowers themselves and they were so nice. Other people always seem to be so talented at these things.

My younger son has a bad cold, and I think he's passing it around.

One more week of summer. The county schools started this week. As I went to work there were little kids waiting for the bus at all the corners. Boohooo - nobody from my house rides the bus anymore.

Another nephew gets married this weekend. DH and the guys including the groom are golfing in the morning. I hope the bride sees the handwriting on the wall.... I used to feel like a golf widow---now it's time for myself!!!!

The wedding was best fun I had in a long time! So many people I hadn't seen in a long time. The bride was gorgeous as well her mom. Father's dance was the only time she looked like a little girl again, it was very sweet.

Mom made a punch with crystal lite, pink lemonade and sprite, it was sooo good.

Rose I am soo glad I have boys, the mothers of girls have to be soo creative. It was so pretty, but I will have just bring my glue gun and tell me what to do! The groom's cake had string potatoes as hay! Sunflower seeds in a trailer, for grain.

Youngest is on Lesson 9 in math, school days are shooting by!

I am doing my famous salsa crockpot chicken for dinner, can hardly wait for it.

Dove hunting season is starting on Friday, I will be a hunter widow and mom. I love those times, the boys love them too.

Rose be careful, that summer cold I had knocked me for a loop!

For some reason I'm thinking a little lime juice along with the can of salsa. It'd be good served with cornbread.
