rose,
you might want to buy him the thing that keeps your toilet clean and blue for 2,000 flushes too...
i am a little frustrated with milk choices out side of the house...
hope you don't have any air travel planned ladies...
so good to see ya back roseg...
life is good! -
Don't know if the college provides any cleaning in the townhouses. In the dorms the baths were not great, but did get cleaned periodically.
The 'organic' cousin was also down on Horizon milk - said it was pasturized too much. I always thought pasturization was a good thing.
Glad you're settling in on socal. -
I just checked out organic eggs at the local supermarket--$2. for 1/2 dozen. We don't eat all that many eggs even in cooked food, so I think I'll pass on those.
-
I scrambled two this a.m. for my son.
They didn't look any different. The cousin told me they were more orange than regular ones, had more vitamin A. He ate them, but that's not saying much about them since he eats nearly everything.
Unless I have some change of heart about them I don't think they'll become a permanent part of my shopping list. I'd far rather pay $4-5 for a great loaf of bread!
The paper has a review of Goat Milk Ice Cream. Have you ever made that Cowgirl? -
I always buy the Eggland eggs. That is organic enough for me!
-
funny...i bought free range organic eggs this week for my boyfriend...
i am not a big egg eater but did do a nice veggie omelette for dinner with them one night...
i just like the no hormone thing as much as possible. that is why i always buy organic milk...
the thing i hate about milk outside the house is when you order coffee in a restaurant you have to remember to order non fat mil with it otherwise you get half and half or whole...
a day's worth of fat grams in a cup of jo?
i don't think so...
love my empty nest, makes me feel young and carefree...
good to see you back g rose! -
Looking good, Rose. Like your new avatar. You sure didn't have any problems with weight while on vacation. I'm assuming that's a vacation shot?
-
Dr Andrew Weill has a recipe for APPLE OAT BRAN MUFFINS that are like little fiber bombs!!! It is on his website. No fat, and they are pretty good....5g fiber per muffin. Very filling.
Moogie -
I'm gonna try those muffins! I need something to snack on at work.
I was very busy on vacation. Now that I'm back the scale is creeping up. Hopefully when I go back to work that'll stop!
I hear you about the coffee stuff. I got an iced coffee at McDonalds. I grilled the girl about whether it was unsweetened or not - and she said not. When I got it it had milk in it, and tasted sweet, I was peeved. Of course I drank it
See that little muscle in my arm????? -
Looking good, Rose!! Hope you had a good time at camp. (I don't see the muscle but we'll blame an inferior monitor...)
I'm still on my birthday week (Sonic for lunch - not even pretending to try to be good!!) -
kari lynn... you can make that a birthday month!
rose, you look so hot, totally awesome!
moogie, anything with five grams of fiber per is worth a try, thank you...
denise, i hope you are continuing to nurture and heal...
don't stress about weight...just try and be healthy...
i am still celebrating karilynn's birthday this week...:)
now i have decided i want to get a job at disneyland which is about 10 minutes away and has great benefits...
gosh rose, just can't get over how cute you look!
happy summer everyone! -
it's amazing what you can do with Corel Photo!
I downloaded a trial copy and may have to buy it.
Disneyland????? We just got you out of Carol Burnett mode - now it's onto Minney Mouse?
Got my lunch packed. The first week back to work after two weeks of snacking is always starving. -
i know what you mean, no photo of me or anyone, for that matter, gets out without a trip to photoshop...
drink lots of water and green tea this week...will keep you full and clean you too...
i was really close to being organic up north, without even trying...
a bit more of a challenge here...but now i am all over the hormones thing...
that will get me off the meat..
really got to focus on the beans...for all kinds a reasons..please pass the beano!
rose, if you are on a pc and comfortable with microsoft, please let me know. -
Black beans and rice!
Cook up some onions and peppers with it (in chicken broth of course). Spice it up. I like it with chopped up brocolli and chicken, but you could go veggie.
I find less need for beano when I buy canned beans and then overcook them. Crunchy beans are -- phew... -
boyfriend tells me this a.m. he wants to do the south beach diet, i am going to kinda tweak it a bit so that maybe we can make the weight loss stick and good healthy eating habits stick.
he needs to know he is on a diet, to work on weight loss so i am going to go with it for him...
good advice on the overcooked beans...i usually buy bulk at whole foods but will look into the canned too, thanks...
i am going to the pandaleria (mexican bakery) today to see if they have fresh tortillas for my black beans and rice, that is the diet i am going on..:) -
I had some south beach receipes. They had a black bean omelet in a wrap that was good. I think you get that after the first few weeks.
Does BF cook?
Maybe you need a pressure cooker if you're doing dried beans. -
I used to have a pressure cooker, but my daughter took it when she moved. I was not allowed to cook dried beans in it-an explosion problem? I would check on that first. It had been a wedding present, so maybe they have changed something to permit bean cooking.
Rose-you look great in that pic!
And I am glad that you mentioned Laura looking like Carol Burnett-I thought that everytime I saw her pic!
You gals look great! -
i was having a problem seeing bf go on southbeach...
it goes against my low fat doctrine:)
found this diet called the fat smash diet that i can totally get behind...
am even going to do the detox part myself, but probably wont give up alcohol or caffeine so i won't really be doing it...
check it out...healthy, works with our low fat high fiber deal and it is not going to cost an arm and a leg..
i went and loaded up on brown rice, lentils, egg whites, yogurt and all the veggies and fruit i can handle...
i am going to make the green bean salad tomorrow if it is good i will pass it on, its from the book...
this looks like an incredible diet, the fat smash diet. here is the info i copied off the web for bf...
Why try the Fat Smash Diet?
Lose 8 Pounds in 9 Days
No calorie counting
Cheat days won't ruin the diet
9 day natural detox
Flexible diet plan
Uses regular food
The Fat Smash Diet is a diet created by Dr. Ian K. Smith from VH1's Celebrity Fit Club. The diet is a 90 day program and it is divided into 4 phases.
1. Phase I - Detox - This phase lasts 9 days. In this phase you will eat mostly fruits and vegetables. The idea is to cleanse your body so you will need to eliminate things like alcohol or caffeine.
2. Phase II - Foundation - This phase lasts 3 weeks. In this phase you eat the same foods as phase I except you will reintroduce lean meats.
3. Phase III - Construction - This phase lasts 4 weeks. In this phase you eat the same foods as phase I & II except you will reintroduce whole wheat pasta and bread.
4. Phase IV - The Temple - This phase is for life. In this phase you eat the same foods as phase I,II, & III. In addition to those foods, you can eat some white starches (ie. white rice, potatoes) as well as have a couple of glasses of wine or beer each week.
The Fat Smash Diet is specifically designed to be a 90-day program with four phases that will ultimately rewire your body and its relationship to food and physical activity for the rest of your life. At the end of the 90 days, you will have made small but important adjustments, not only in your food consumption, but in your understanding and attitude toward food and the way you view the importance of physical activity in maintaining a healthy life. Each phase builds upon the previous phase like the levels of a pyramid that support the ones above it. The foundation and its integrity are what allow the peak to stand, so you must be careful in constructing the building blocks so that they might be as strong as possible to allow you to reach the top of your goals.
The diet is a healthy four-phase diet that starts out with a natural detox phase to clean the impurities out of your system. It then progresses to eating normal, everyday foods that you can make right at home or order at a restaurant. There are no gimmicks or expensive supplements involved ‑- just good healthy food that you can purchase at your local grocery store. There are lots of different foods on the "allowable" food lists so that vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters can all find what they like and follow the program. My philosophy is that losing weight should not be painful, expensive or punishment. The journey should be invigorating, inexpensive and spiritual. I decided to do away with all of the fancy doctor talk and the big medical words and present a program in clear, easy-to-understand language that will benefit everyone. This is not about counting calories or performing difficult calculations. Just choose the foods from the lists and follow the recommendations, and you will start to see that weight coming right off. There are more than 50 tasty, easy-to-cook recipes that will make you forget you're on a diet. -
by the way, and for myself, I went to the pandaleria and got the most awesome tamales i have ever had...they did not have fresh tortillas...ate all the veggies and made bf a fruit smoothie.the fat smash diet looks like a go...
is he a cook? if you call a bowl of cereal cooking he is. definitely tops in clean-up....
this is good and it works, i am a fabulous cook according to everyone i know. one in the house is plenty... -

Be gentle! If somebody is used to getting a lot of high-fat processed food and you flip them onto fruits and veggies they'll be in shock for awhile. You don't want him to quit before he gets used to it.
Does he take lunch to work or buy something? If you do 'good' food at home then if he wants to cheat at lunch you can look the other way. Men have such an easy time. If my husband knocks out beer and fries he gets results on the scale almost immediately.
I do like those 100 calorie South Beach snack packs....
I put veggies to grill out last night after we'd finished with the main meal. Opps - I went to watch 'The Wire' and this morning they're still out there. Out of sight, out of mind. Season Three is being released on DVD so we're watching Season Two on demand. -
I know a few gals who have lost weight on that kind of diet. When I was fighting my liver mets, I had asked my Protocol nurse about that kind of "cleansing diet", as I had read that it would clean out the liver. She told me that in my case, since I have liver damage, it would be very harmful to me as it would be too much of a shock to my liver.
Oh well.......back to WW points. -
I agree about the liver thing. Somehow I've managed to get this far in life without any anything that does your liver.
Saw this in the paper today. It calls for a lot of cheese, but nobody said you have to put it all on.
Recipe: Tlayuda With Black Bean Purée
2 cups cooked or canned black beans, drained, liquid reserved
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 small onion, minced
1 teaspoon mild chili powder, like New Mexico or ancho, or to taste
1 tablespoon cumin, or to taste
2 large (12-inch) tortillas, preferably corn
1 cup chopped quesillo (Mexican string cheese) or mozzarella; or use a crumbly cheese like queso fresco, slightly dried goat cheese or feta
Rounds of chorizo or other sausage, optional
1 cup chopped cabbage.
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. If using dried beans, add salt, pepper, garlic, onion, chili powder and cumin in the last few minutes of cooking. Drain and reserve liquid. Carefully place mixture in a blender or food processor with enough bean liquid to allow machine to do its work and roughly purée, leaving the mixture a bit chunky. If using canned beans, add seasonings and warm mixture gently in a saucepan, stirring, just to take the edge off the garlic and onion. Then roughly purée.
2. Place 1 tortilla on pizza peel or baking sheet and spread half the bean mixture on it; top with half the cheese and half the meat, if using it. Bake (on pizza stone, if using) for about 5 minutes, then sprinkle with half the cabbage. Bake another 5 minutes or so, until topping is hot and tortilla crisp on edges. Serve, cut into wedges, then repeat with other tortilla. -
i take daily medication and feel that a clean system is wonderful, medication can so easily screw with your digestive system...
i am more prone to eating a diet high in antioxidants than doing a cleanse program...
for me it is all about being real regular;)
good recipe, rose....lots of things to sub for the meat and cheese, i love the cabbage ... i got these melissa's steamed lentils that i am going to try with it...
denise, i agree stick with what works for you ...you just need to stay calm, eat well and relax and heal!
what a big chapter in the book of this journey your surgery is...
now heal and heal and heal good!
i mad e a wonderful brown rice with sauted onions, basil and cherry tomatoes for din din...it was really good. used spices to kick up the rice and just a smidge of lite soy and olive oil. i sauted the little tomatoes because that gives the optimum benefits of the little red buggers...cooking them...
anyway did i tell you thjose lintils have 16g fiber per cup!
holy fiber!
that is a lot...i will see if i can eat a cup... maybe in salad? vinegarette? with garbanzos?
if you eat plenty of fiber you really don't need to do the cleansing thing, maybe.
fiber keeps you nice and regular... -
That rice dish sounds good.
Why aren't you applying at Whole Foods? Maybe they need a Deli operator. -
i don't know if i could handle that physical of a job.
the arm thing is an issue for me and i get swelling in my side if i overdo it...
and boy did i overdo it with moving and getting the house together...
so far so good on bf's diet...it is eating four times a day that takes some thought.. -
I think I envisioned you doing menus and tasting! Any word on the web thing? My son decided to transfer to a Starbucks that is closer to where he'll go to school. Somehow this resulted in him being off the schedule at the old place, and not on the schedule at the new place. He needs to be working! He used up a whole tank of gas between Saturday and Tuesday.
I thought this sounded a little like you ( you can figure out what California wine goes with):
Lentil Salad
With this earthy and flavorful salad, Paul Marcus Wines recommends a white Cotes du Rhone or Albariño from Northern Spain.
1/3 pound(s) Le Puy French lentils or other lentils
1/2 tablespoon(s) chopped garlic
2 tablespoon(s) red wine vinegar
2 tablespoon(s) lemon juice
2 tablespoon(s) chopped fresh mint
1 1/2 tablespoon(s) chopped fresh oregano
2 tablespoon(s) chopped fresh parsley
1 1/2 cup(s) diced tomatoes
1 cup(s) peeled, diced cucumbers
1/4 pound(s) pitted Kalamata olives, chopped
1/4 pound(s) diced feta cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
Cover the lentils by two inches with cold water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer. Cook lentils until tender, but not falling apart. Drain and cool. In a large bowl mix the garlic, vinegar, lemon and herbs. Add the cooled lentils, tomatoes, cucumbers and olives. Gently fold in the feta. Add salt and pepper to taste. -
thank you, thank you thank you rose that looks fantastic, just need to pick up some red wine vinegar and garlic and kalamata olives...
bf loves greek salad and i have been looking for a way to introduce the lentils so he will love them!
no word on the web work, it will come...
have an interview monday, will tell you after don't want to jinx, but i will say it is at retail, walking distance, part time...
perfect.
happy friday...
my sleep patterns suck!
can son do some work for you? lol...if he does windows, send him my way, i'll pay him 10 bucks an hour and keep him busy.
my son has supposedly sent app in to radio shack, he is trying to "avoid the food industry", personally, i think my early early days in the restaurant biz really laid the ground work for my people skills...:)
maybe he could go visit someone and get out of the house?
absence makes the heart grow fonder...
hahahaha! -
I won't jinx you by wishing you well!
I have several things that need to be done around the house. I'm going to bring that up this weekend. He's enjoying unemployment way too much. -
Hey gals you have been busy bees. So glad you all are back! Great ideas, great recipes! We started school, and I am homeschooling youngest still. It is going well for everyone. We got through drug tests and physicals. Tuesday youngst and I are going to a homeschooling fair, he is attending a science workshop, it sounds like a lot of fun!
I started a new PT job as well. So far so good, it is only a couple of hours a week, which is perfect. I am working it around DH schedule. Youngest and Dad went to Taylor to a big John Deere dealer and ate BBQ, on Thursday while I worked! They both loved it.
I will be popping in on here and What the heck on Family. I can do that much! -
good to catch up with you kathy cowgirl!
sounds like a wonderful schedule!
rose, that lentil salad is fantastic, omitted the feta and it is still good!
this fat smasher diet is wonderful, not an intense detox at all, can recommend to anyone with low fat, high fiber in mind...
just had an egg white and vegetable omelete for lunch...tonight more lentil salad and brown rice...
i love lentils!
that is a good thing...
lots of fun next week with angels baseball games each night...
tuesday through thursday the red sox and friday night the yankees...
took my bf for pedicure this am...:)
loving life!
