Hate that things like what happened in Pennsylvania today happen. And keep happening all over our country. Knives, guns, it doesn't matter .... People are hurt, people die. We need better mental health care. Duh.
Love the cartoons! Loved the spring weather we had today! Love looking forward to sunshine and summer. Love friends who listen without judging. Thanks, friends.

From the Los Angeles Times:
Rand's Obamacare stats: 9.3 million new insureds, and counting
April 8, 2014, 1:18 p.m.
The long-awaited Rand Corp. study of Obamacare's effect on health insurance coverage was released Tuesday and confirmed the numbers that had been telegraphed for more than a week: At least 9.3 million more Americans have health insurance now than in September 2013, virtually all of them as a result of the law.
That's a net figure, accommodating all those who lost their individual health insurance because of cancellations. The Rand study confirms other surveys that placed the number of people who lost their old insurance and did not or could not replace it -- the focus of an enormous volume of anti-Obamacare rhetoric -- at less than 1 million. The Rand experts call this a "very small" number, less than 1% of the U.S. population age 18 to 64.
The Rand study was eagerly anticipated in part because of the dearth of hard information from other sources, including the federal and state governments, which are still compiling their statistics and may not have a full slate for months.
Rand acknowledges that its figures have limitations -- they're based on a survey sampling, meaning that the breakdowns are subject to various margins of error, and they don't include much of the surge in enrollments in late March and early April. Those 3.2-million sign-ups not counted by Rand could "dramatically affect" the figures on total insureds, the organization said.A few other important takeaways:
--The number of people getting insurance through their employers increased by 8.2 million. Rand said the increase is likely to have been driven by a decline in unemployment, which made more people eligible for employer plans, and by the incentives in the Affordable Care Act encouraging more employer coverage. The figure certainly undermines the contention by the healthcare law's critics that the legislation gave employers an incentive to drop coverage.
--Of the 3.9 million people counted by Rand as obtaining insurance on the individual exchange market, 36% were previously uninsured. That ratio is expected to rise when the late signups are factored in. Medicaid enrollment increased by 5.9 million, the majority of whom did not have insurance before signing up.
--These figures are only the leading edge of a long-term trend. "It's still early in the life of the ACA," Rand said. Its experts expect more enrollments "as people become more familiar with the law, the individual mandates increase to their highest levels, the employer mandate kicks in, and other changes occur." But their bottom line is that the law already has led to "a substantial increase in insurance coverage."
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Of course, facts are never the wrong wing's strong suit. And, as we have seen, they would much rather have people do without insurance or simply conveniently die so that they won't be bothered. Too bad. The Affordable Care Act is working and all those pesky people will live longer, healthier lives because of it. And at least some of them will vote Democratic.

Thank you, President Obama!

Can't be said often enough....so a billion thank you's President Obama. That many boos to the Governors who would not take the expanded Medicaid....the shame of your lifetime to you.

Just been to see the breast surgeon - she doesn't want to do an excisional biopsy on that spot in my boob seeing there is no change on the US. I did ask how worried she was that they might have missed the spot when they did the biopsy and she doesn't seem at all concerned, just said it can happen but very unlikely. I'll have a mammo & US in October, so we'll see what happens then. She is SO lovely - she bulk billed me ( no gap) today - probably because she didn't examine me, I was very touched.
-
For Bill O' Riley's new book and the Rethugs filibustering equal pay in the Senate and for people like Ryan who must surely have his head in a very dark place somewhere on his body.
-
Long wait to Oct. but your Dr. does seem confident about things Suzie. Keeping an eye on things every 6 mos. so that too I hope will help ease any anxiety.

Hi Everybody!
Is it too early in the season to start bitching about mowing? Hahahaha! Just kidding. I've mowed the front and back and my big upper field. I really enjoyed being outside today. Plus the grass looks nice again.
I'm doing loads of laundry getting ready for my trip on Saturday. I can't wait to see them. Sucks that I have a 2 1/2 hour layover in Atlanta, but that's what happens when you get the cheap seats! At least this time I won't be stuck in a middle seat for 5 hours. Yay!
Suzie ... Glad to hear your doctor is watching you so closely.
Jackie ... Love the daffodils and the poem. My daffodils are about done and the crocus and tulips are blooming. Even getting flower buds on the dogwood trees. They are so awesome when they bloom. I'll see if I can find a picture of them to post.
Hope everyone is having a great day,
Bren

OMG .. the picture is huge. This was taken last spring in the front yard.
-
Wow Bren - that is gorgeous
The BS wants me back on 12 monthly now but my mammo will be due in October.
Been off work sick most of the week and will actually go into work today - that should be fun

Methinks she is most definitely as far out of the loop as Ryan:

Loving this wonderful weather! BUT, it's going down to 53 on Monday.

Obama's killing jobs again. Thanks, Obama!
Benghazi,
E
-
E....what can you expect from someone who is out to destroy the world as we know it with great emphasis on taking all our guns along with those jobs, and doing other dastardly things like making the Congress look bad to people by having to obstruct nearly every thing............but ASPARAGUS.
Jackie
Benghazi
-
Ohhhh that's right. The brown-shirted Obama army showed up yesterday to seize my guns. Not.
Pffft.
-
And ( whine, whine, whine ) he is taking away that great cheap Insurance, you know. I mean only a Muslin would do a dirty thing like that........and leave people with nothing. I'm not sure what is going on with those people in Kentucky though.
Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi

My great cheap insurance stayed great and cheap, since it's Medicare. I don't understand why requiring citizens to hold insurance is such a bad thing. The uninsured cost me a lot of money when they can't pay their emergency room bills. Where in the Constitution is THAT allowed?
-
-
Wait...what? Did he actually say that? And yet he's still against the ACA?
-
Great thought, but probably not.....the date on it is April 1st. But then again.....sometimes he does get a bit ahead of himself ( shutting down the gov't too soon ) and then having to blame it on Obama.
Jackie
-
Ah...I did not notice the date. I thought I was in an alternate universe.
-
Oh, that Medicare, it's so bad, it's been paying for all the tests, and appointments for the Pulmonary doc to figure out why I can't stop coughing. Bad Medicare, and just think, everyone gets it too. Bah, "socialized" medicine. Even those of us with pre-existing conditions like asthma, and allergies.
That's it, I'm allergic to Cruz. Why didn't we think of that earlier. Scary thought that we might get the gubmint we deserve...except for Sylvia Matthews, ya wanna see a fantastic resume, google her

YEAH, OBAMACARES.
-
I still think we should have gone further in putting people out of jobs - that is the people who run the insurance companies. Obama care is an improvement. Single payer next.
-
I still find myself annoyed at the huge numbers of people who are not able to read the writing on the wall. I especially think back to this Congress, especially the obstructionist contingency and think.....must be great to think the "claim to fame" is going to be the enormous number of times they attempted to repeal the ACA.
What very few scant things might be to the credit just pale to the background as though it never happened. It is scary to think the people elected have such narrow visions, and are in fact, all about the things they say they aren't. Both parties take advantage of what they can, but this do nothing or repeal attitude, and those who think it is fine to shut down our government and finds ways to make people suffer......just wondering if the karma will be as explosive as they have been.

Makes sense to me Jon.
