I had to wear the goggles the second time to see the screen to do the breathing...to hold my breath at a certain point so the heart ventricle will be in the down position when the rad hits. Very techno sci-fi LOL

Depends on the machine as to whether you get to wear goggles & do breathing. I had no goggles, breathe normally.

It is because how close the rads will be to my heart. The holding of the breath keep the ventricle downward.

Vintage hang in there your almost there, by the summer it will be history, btw we're booked for a vaca last week in july in Ogunquit, me. Thinking if all goes well swing by portsmouth to see you for a quick hello! We can compare, hair growth, nails, left over side efects and yes flash ourselves LOL its a thought.
Question whats the normal wait after surgery to start rads?

Running, Awesome picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like a great vacation!Babyruth, Awesome about your mom! My mom is a 22 year survivor, and going strong too. She has been very inspirational for me. Of course, at times she frustrates me because I ALWAYS hear, "that's not the way they treated mine...with me, they used.......". Uuuugh. She does NOT get that treatments and drugs change!
Audra, A private Facebook group is just that...private and secret. Nothing you post in it is visible to anyone outside the group. It's not visible on your wall, ticker, anywhere. It's really nice. My mom's groups used it to plan playdates, play groups and such. Now that our kids are in school, we use it to plan mom's nights out and lunch gatherings!
Mercedes, I hope the preop goes well tomorrow. Everyone has different experiences, but fo rme, surgery was a breeze compared to chemo.
Betterday, I hope all goes well with the MRI today. Picture yourself on that beach...and maybe make plans in your head which you can book later to actually BE at that beach!
Travelmom, Welcome back!
I went for a 24 mile bike ride yesterday, which was great except for the 20+ MPH winds. This time I actually checked the weather, but they apparently had not updated it in the morning...they'd updated it when I got back though! Luckily I had a tailwind on my way home, which was nice! I do definitely need a better padded bike seat since I apparently don't have a well padded butt. Ouch.

I have been quiet the last few days - had to go back into the OR on Friday. PS stitched the two skin defects, and put a different implant in that is 100cc smaller so as not to stress the skin as much. Unfortunately I had an allergic reaction to the tegaderm and now have a blistered, weeping, nasty rash covering my chest and down to my waist and the underside of both arms. I saw the PS yesterday and got a prescription for Atarax which is making me sleepy, but seems to be calming things down a bit.

Oh SpecialK - wow, you've been through the wringer. I'm so sorry. I hope you have a smooth(er) recovery and the medicine helps. Feel better!
So I colored my hair (myself) today - first time ever. One step closer to going topless I guess. I was sick of seeing my fuzzy, short, GRAY hair.
Rad #2 done today.

Michelle- I am glad you kind of cleared things up I was tripping with myself I was like my simulation does not sound like any of the things others been through I was in for about 30min and they put me in a table after I took off my top and put on the gown they made me ensues both arms into a cuff thing and they did the Ct scan and marked me up and now I am waiting for them to call me back with a start date. How long did it rake for you start rads after markings?

VintageGal, Cougar, SimpleLife, SouthernGirl -Looks like I'm bringing up the rear for rads--my simulation is Monday and 1st session is Tuesday. Thanks to everyone for posting about their experiences. It really helps to know what to expect beforehand. I'm pretty concerned that it'll be just over 7 weeks after my surgery that I'm starting rads. Everything I'm reading says anything over 5 weeks may not be as effective. Since my chemo didn't help a whole lot & I'm TN, rads really has to hit a home run.
BabyRuth- Thanks for the pep talk, it really does help to hear of people doing well since diagnosis & treatment.
RunningFC- Great photo. Looks like you have made your way around to the brighter side of life. Congrats!
BetterDay- I get claustrophobic in MRI machines, too. If I know my head or upper body will be in there, Xanax really help me to relax. I hope it went well.
SpecialK-I'm so sorry you had to go back into surgery and have had a skin reaction. I hope the Atarax works well without knocking you out.
LHL- My hair is still fuzzy, short and grey (OK, white in spots). I'm really trying not to go back to dying it, but on the other hand, I'm not sure how much longer I can walk around like this. I'm sometimes super self-conscious about it. If dying gives you the confidence to go topless, go for it! I'm glad your rads are going well.
KJ-Thanks for setting up FB. I deactivated my profile in Sept., but this might be a good time to reactivate.

Kelly - I started rads three MONTHS after my bmx..... so hopefully what you heard is wrong about it not being as effective!
I'm exhausted, too KJ. I really didn't think rads fatigue would hit me so hard so fast, but it has.

My last chemo was 1/23 and I started rads 4/3. So I went almost 10 weeks before starting. Before I started chemo, I met with my RO and told him I had a cruise planned in March and that I could move it if needed but it was with my best friend and her family. He said no problem - you will need to get away after chemo. So I had my mammogram before I went out of town and met with him the week after I got back. I am glad he allowed me to go - it was nice to see the sun - not so nice to come back with out any kind of tan. My skin thanks me though.
Fatigue is starting but since I moved to 8am for rads I will be walking outside or at the mall after rads but before work. Get that heart pumping.
