Thanks for checking Juneping! I got my copy from the library and returned it already. You rock! I am under 50 so I think that is why I ignored it.  btw - It is more than acceptable to blame your evil boss!  i have had 1 or 2 of these myself.  hahaha

i also says it's hormone, too much of it doesn't necessarily mean it's better or more effective. my mom used to be a nurse and has seen some doctors messed with hormones and told me not to mess with mine.

Yeah, I have that book, too! It also says if you DO take melatonin, 1 mg or less is best. I am taking 1 mg, even though I am just under 50 (49). I'm not that concerned that it is a hormone. Vitamin D3 is a hormone, too, and I am taking 4,000 IU of that a day.

I guess I'm the one who brought up the stress thing, Hjpz, and no, I don't think it's the reason I (or any of us) developed breast cancer, but I do think stress is unhealthful (how's that for a word!) and the less of it we internalize, the better.  As for moving forward in the healthiest manner possible, I certainly advocate all the stress reduction techniques, but generally find myself to much of a stress addict to follow my own advice.

i don't know who brought it up but i am glad it's brought up.

to me, state of mind is powerful (stress), it provides a condition but that can't be measured...that's why ppl brush it off. unlike exercise and diet, we can quantify them but not state of mind.  but the more i read about it the more i am convinced it plays a role. the body itself is a small ecosystem and state of mind can affect how it functions. afterall, everything is related and no one single factor can cause cancer.

i am not going to lie, i wish there're more studies on how we got cancer at the first place. instead of us guessing over it on the internet.

    link:

    Mind over Matter

Taking charge of one´s own life is vitally important to some people
and doctors ignore this all too frequently when they belittle (yes, they
do we receive the letters!) their patients and their exercise or diet
regimes, the hands-on-healer, the Indian head massage, the switch to
soya, the findings on the Internet, and even the desire for a second
    opinion.

The mind is an important weapon in the fight to beat cancer. And
there is scientific evidence on the role of food here. To give one
example, people who are depressed get more cancers, and cancer patients
often suffer depression it is linked to a lowered blood oxygen level.
But we know certain foods can help significantly in this area. In 2005
and 2006 there were a number of US studies that showed fish oils were
more effective at dealing with depression than even the best clinically
approved drugs and they don´t have the side effects. By 2012 there had
been a number of studies showing that stress management techniques increased survival times ´significantly´; and these started with diet and natural compounds like fish oils, going on to include yoga, meditation and counseling.

Diet is most definitely a factor in someone´s mental well-being and their survival from cancer.

No hipz, I'm not.  That stress was something I never could have imagined for myself--it certainly wasn't something I did to myself.  I thought I was doing everything right and I was but you can't control what other people do or when they die--you just have to deal with it.

June, I meant to say that I saw that docu too called Pink Ribbons Inc.  It made me very angry but I wasn't much surprised by it--it simply reinforced for me why I've always been so turned off to the whole pink ribbon campaign stuff.  A few interesting things I got from the film:  A. Taxoxifen is made by AstraZeneca, the third largest pesticide manufacturer in the world.  Atrazine is their biggest seller and they tried to yank it off the market a few years ago b/c it's so carcinogenic, but it's too useful and no good substitutes so it's still widely used. Good article about some of this: This can't be happening B.  Very little of the money raised for BC research goes towards finding a cause-- I think all of us here would have cared more about prevention than dealing with it after it developed.

Jojo!  Carrageenan?  Wah!  I use coconut and almond milk every day b/c I went off dairy.  God, is nothing safe in this crazy world anymore?  I thought it was some kind of seaweed.

So glad all you ladies are not blaming yourself!  I just think women put so much guilt on themselves about things I was hoping that wasn't the case here and I guess you all indicated I was wrong so that is good :)

Pipers - I agree 100% about pink ribbon campaigns.  I HATE October and simply can't wait for the month to be over to be honest.  All those fake companies out there pretending to be so helpful and caring.  Last year I kept posting articles about how few dollars go to actual research on my Facebook page because people are clueless.  They just think they are doing a good deed by buying that pink bag of Doritos.  It is the same with how little clue people have as to all the harmful chemicals are packed into their daily food and products.  Why we still as a public still allow animals to be pumped with hormones is beyond me.  I think since people get everything from the store they just don't feel they need to pay attention to where it came from or what is in it.

piper - if you decide to make your own almond milk, make sure you get the almonds non GMO, not pasteurized...get them organic and raw. i was doing some research and making my own almond milk before going on raw milk, here are two links that sell raw nuts. i got my raw almonds from the brewer farms 5 pound min. the first site sell in small quantity.

June, I didn't think it was possible to get non-pasteurized almonds anymore?  I remember when they made that ruling a few years ago and it made a lot of organic folks hopping mad!  I'll check out your links though.

juneping - Before, I would take only 3 mg of Melatonin plus a Benadryl at bedtime. Didn't do a thing for my insomnia, but it became a habit. I upped it to 15 mg after reading about Melatonin possibly fighting breast cancer. Still nothing. I've always had chronic insomnia.

My former oncologist said that the 5 hours of sleep (6 on a good night) was not enough.  I talked to my psychiatrist about Trazodone because my sister had success with it. 50 mg worked wonders. I keep up the 15 mg of Melatonin for the breast cancer.

I don't know how a higher dosage would be on someone with a normal sleep pattern.  Maybe slowly titrate up and see?

it's a little but less than a month since I started taking taxmo and it is affecting my sleep. It's been a few days that I woke up in the middle of the night hot...and a lot of dreams. I could tell the quality wasn't good. I think it's the SE of taxmo. I'll bring up with dr Wong and hope he can help me. And I will bring this up with my integrative doc in march and see what he says.....

    @Jojo - thank you for the post from Dr Blaylock - what an interesting read. I absolutely loved his closing comments that I will repost here for everyone's benefit;

"Those of us who care deeply about individuals' health are in a constant struggel with the academics who insist on pristine, absolute proof before they will accept that any treatment is clinically useful. But while they bicker over minutia, people are dying. The suffering can't wait decades for purists to finally be convinced of the value of lifesaving treatments."      Well stated Dr B, well stated!

@GeeWhiz - I loved reading your update and look forward to more news once you have it. I am seriously wanting to do Hyperthermia as the German Clinics have been having tremendous results over the past few years (as I've read). May I be so nosey as to ask costs?

@JunePing - I saw all of those movies (Gerson, Pink Ribbons, Stress) as well as Hungry For Change and FoodMatters and Knives over Forks LOL the whole gamut - I was possessed!  Very enlightening don't you think?  I think it was the foundation that helped me understand the urgent need to change my ways.

juneping - I have been having crazy dreams for months - wonder if it is the Tamoxifen???  I also get hot at night off and on but I got hot before the Tamoxifen so can't blame that (per that book we both read night sweats are a sign of estrogen dominance so it could be that??)  I will have to look more into the weird dreams though.  Keep me updated after you meet with Dr. Wong!

GlobalGirly:  (Are you by any chance a traveller?  We need to talk.)  About the benadryl--I used to take that every night b/c it was reliable and cheap but then I read somewhere that it inhibits acetylcholine, which is the neurotransmitter you need for memories and that kind of freaked me out.  Supposedly the effect is temporary but at the same time I read that I realized that my mother had been taking Tylenol PM (same active ing) for years and was losing her mental faculties quickly.  The absolute best all-time sleep remedy I've discovered is this:  About an hour before bed, take your Ca and Mg supplements and get into bed.  No TV or computer screens--just a book or knitting or whatever you like that doesn't get you too stimulated.  Then take your melatonin and totally darken the bedroom.  Do not turn on any lights if you have to go to the bathroom--I make sure I have TP before I go to bed so I don't have to be looking for it.  This totally works for me and the addition of the Ca and Mg was huge for me.  My biggest challenge is getting to bed on time--I'd stay up till midnight if I could get away with it and often I thought I was getting away with it. . . but I feel so much better these days!

Scandophile, I also liked those closing comments from Dr. Blaylock--sometimes you just gotta jump right in before they stop arguing.

Juneping - before today I thought I was soooo tired every day at the end of the day because of this darn winter here that will not quit but now I am wondering if it is from my Tamoxifen because other ladies pointed out a lack of energy on it.  I don't remember having this issue the first time I took it but I was younger.  I will ask my Oncologist about it when I see him in 2 weeks. If anything I will know for sure if it is just the winter blues when (Please Be SOON) spring finally comes around and I can see if I notice an energy difference.

I have used B 17 in the form of apricot seed( laetrile)  in the hopes that my Paget's Disease of the breast would disappear. I've tken it daily for 4 months, but two days ago my rash and nipple discharge  ( symptoms of Paget's) reappeared.  This tells me that i need to proceed with the surgery that was first recommended 3 months ago to get rid of these cancerous cells and follow it up with the recommended radiation. I am more of an alternative treatment believer, so the idea of this treatment is a disappointment for me. Did you have any favorable outcomes with B 17?

For those of you trying to avoid carageenan, I ran across a guide to organic foods with, and without carageenan put out by the Cornucopia Institute (I use their guide for humanely raised eggs and milk, also)

Also, if anyone is taking DIM, apparently taking it with cod liver oil boosts it's bioavailability (in rats, anyway)

pipers_dream - Yes ma'am I am. =) I've traveled to many countries, but the list of countries I want to visit is much longer. =)

Thanks for the tips on sleep & the magnesium & calcium suggestion. How many mg do you take of each? I will try that.

Srh242 - Yes. Lots when I was younger. Sometimes my eczema would become infected, and I'd need antibiotics to clear it up.

I think it's a perfect storm...this cancer crap. I was stressed, I wasn't eating well, I wasn't exercising, I lived in NYC with all kinds of bad air, and I have a HUGE family history of all kinds of cancers.  Several months before I got diagnosed I remember saying to my husband one night, "I have never in my life felt more mentally or physically drained".

So, I do everything I can to make sure it doesn't come back. (Though I feel like it's just gotten me one step away from "complete crapshoot".) The peace comes in knowing that if it does return, that I did my best.

Geewhiz, I feel the same way. I also think that we shouldn't overlook how much the cancer itself messes with us - meaning that the stress and fatigue I felt in the years before DX were likely caused by the cancer, rather than the other way around.
