How vain are you?

Sunflowers... I've been meaning to ask, how did that sunflower painting turn out?
And on a lighter note, saw this on FB and haven't stopped giggling. My favourite things, killer heels and orange kitties...
-
selena, not good in watercolor, I'm gonna try it now in soft pastel ;-)))
Just came in from shoveling - WHOA, this is heavy snow, layers of ice in it, rained for a few hours during snow storm, then froze...
stay warm everyone - this is a Big Storm

Melissa, that says a LOT for your grandfathers constitution!!! Wow! As for your Dad and shorts, mine only wore Tilley shorts which were longer. But certainly never away from the house!!! Only for riding mowing the lawn with his Tilley shirt and Tilley hat on.....
Used to LOVE Olga!!! Great colours and prices and then my local lingerie store stopped carrying that line. So we moved.
As for underwires; I had breast reduction surgery years ago and was told by the surgeon to NEVER use underwire as it cut into the lymph system and caused issues. I tried not wearing wire, but really, really needed the support still. Now, of course, not at all! But, when my breasts came off I had a large "fat ridge" caused by the use of underwire since I was 13. I used to get a big kick when I would get poked in my chin by something and look down to see a wire coming out of my blouse!!! It caught me off-guard easily a dozen times before they began to make them more secure. I heard once that you are only supposed to wear a bra for 180 days. Who the hell could afford to replace their bras at that speed??? Apparently, the support in the fabric is gone by that point. Another reason to love underwire!

Just had to post this before heading out to my Valentine's dinner. Happy Valentine's Day girls!
-
Actually, it should say "Peticures"!!!! hehehehehehehehe cute comic, though! Have a great dinner.
-
oh melissa- thanks so much for sending my way- i love the guys with no shirts on- think I will bring this to my next meeting on surgical attire LOL- is the picture you have blurry with the guy on the right and far left? I copied the jpeg and they were a bit blurry.
I like that cat picture too- made me giggle.
-
Wyo, the guys operating are shirtless under their gowns too. I thought I had seen an unblurred copy, but I guess not. Notice the nurses in the other photo all have their caps on though. Here's the article:
-
This is very cool- bookmarked the whole thing. We spend hours in meetings arguing about surgical attire and chest hair LOL. btw- was your dad a Sooner? My oldest son is a Sooner- Business Admin. He loved the college, went there to check it out and it was the only school he applied to after he saw it. With you being in Texas and all I hesitate to discuss OU- hehehehe
-
No my dad went to school here.
My Granddad is the Dr. Pearson in the article. He was one of twelve kids and they hold the record for the most kids from one family graduating from OU. OU used to send them free tickets for the big game. For fifty years my grandparents held a huge weekend house party/reunion for OU/TX Weekend. It was a blast and some years there were close to 100 people there. My mom has thirty first cousins. I sure miss it. We finally had to stop two years ago when he wasn't doing well the year before he died.
-
That is amazing- what a family tradition. Ahh I have heard many stories about the Red River Shoot-out weekend parties both in Tx and OK- so glad that your family had all those memories.
I would have loved to work with someone like your granddad in surgery. I read on another thread here one woman said her surgeon drove 200 miles to do her surgery and then back home to her dad's funeral so she could make sure and have her surgery before christmas- I hate when I hear people bash doctors because most of them are just like that- its a few bad apples that "spoil the bunch" and are money-motivated and zero personality.
-
Thanks WYO. he became a psychiatrist & worked until he was 92. He loved people and his job.
I loved my old WWII era docs. They knew how to diagnose because they learned before machines could do it for them.
-
Melissa, he would have seen HUGE leaps and bounds in the understanding of the brain over his time involved!! What new disorders he saw...bipolar, PTSD, ADHD and the spread of the autism spectrum and so much more......!
-
Melissa - what a FASCINATING family history...
barbe - "fat ridge" - from the underwires? So how come mine is still there - BLM, and implants explanted - still there it is...who knew? Mean it's not just plain ole fat? Are you sure, or should we ask larry ?
I also have VERY large angel wing on one side, smaller than the other, my excuse for flying in circles.
-
Kayb, I still don't get it. I had some horrid doctors for several months who seriously misdiagnosed me and damn near killed me because of it when I had ovarian cancer & I still think unproven alternative medicine is BS.
-
Getting back to vain, I still use my beautiful antique dressing table every morning. My grandmother found it at an estate sale and it had many, many coats of paint. My dad refinished it to the original gorgeous birds-eye maple when I was twelve, so I have cherished it for forty years.
-
I KNEW our Momine knew the meaning of 'snark'!
Re: vanity, I have a bet with my bestie on the threads for tonight's basketball game: Florida vs. Kentucky. Winner gets lip gloss. Just to let you know what a sports fan I am, when she texted me about it I did not know if it was a basketball game or a baseball game. She thoughtfully informed me that it could not be baseball since the players cannot find a white baseball in the snow.
Go Gators! I want a Tarte lipsurgence lip gloss!
-
Melissa, that is beautiful!
-
My most beautiful lingerie, purchased by a really bad (for lots of reasons) boyfriend around 2000. I have amber-brown hair and eyes & it was really gorgeous on me. Silk chemise & short kimono...
-
Ah Bobo, as much as I like UF, I think UK is gonna win. They clean up basketball all the time. Football, not so much. Just sayin'.
-
Momine, I also have a 30's Deco birds-eye maple bed & armoire.
-
Melissa, I love that lingerie! The colors and pattern are beautiful!
-
I'm feeling vain today! Finally lost my 5 Aromasin pounds!! WooHoo!
-
sunflowers, my fat ridge is about half the size it was after my double mast. It does go down with weight loss too, but I haven't been blessed with THOSE types of losses...sigh.
LOVE the pattern on the lingerie Melissa!!! All the colours that are perfect for your colouring!!
sunflowers, that "wing" could be LE. Get it checked out. Seriously. I have mild truncal LE and have been able to keep it at bay without wraps by knowing how to avoid certain issues and to do MLND. There is the point where the surgeon has to stop his incision, so a small "wing" or "dogs ear" is to be expected. But if you have two sides (like with a double mast) and one is bigger, you may have problems!
yorkiemom....envious!! But good for YOU!!!
-
Melissa... I use my grandmother's dressing table every morning. Love the ritual of sitting down in front of the mirror, turning on the boudoir lights and getting ready for the day. Also brings back a lot of lovely memories of her. Love the lingerie, too. A sexy, silk robe is always a must.
Congrats Yorkie!
Went for a long hike yesterday with my honey. Trail was well-packed down by cross-country skiers, we could see deer tracks everywhere. Did about 5 miles of hills, feel WONDERFUL!!!! Nothing like a good, long tramp to unclutter the mind.
-
Selena, great job on hike! And yorkie mom, Congratulations!!! So proud of you. How did you do it? Please provide magic secrets
-
barbe - thanks for good advice, but it's just plain ole FAT ;-))) one side was always MUCH bigger than the other.
-
Sunflowers, trying to have my side lumps removed as they take the other TE out. They say mine is fat. But I have almost no fat anywhere else! You can see my ribs. Fat lumps look so ugly on me. Am suspicious of everything they say.
-
Bobogirl, it's really no secret. I'm on a strict carbohydrate diet and exercise an average of one hour per day. It is weird, though, because I've been doing all that for a year. Yet until the last couple of months have been stuck. Maybe my metabolism is adjusting to the Aromasin, because suddenly the weight started cming off. I was starting to think I was doomed to being overweight. My goal is another five. Could even use another five after that but we'll see. Aside from the Aromasin, at 65 the weight just doesn't melt away like it used to.
-
Bobo, you won the bet, I'm having not so tasty crow
-
Hi all
Melissa- I love that dressing table- I am on the look-out for something like that, have seen a few but none that I feel in love with. My mom was a make-up in the bathroom gal and I guess I am taking after her LOL
I had a hike yesterday too- I hiked into San Francisco (via BART- honestly) for some retail therapy at Nordstroms,Desiqual, GAP and Sephora LOL. It is good exercise as San Francisco is hilly all around Union Square. Clocked 14,000 steps on the fitbit so not too shabby and I got some excellent bras from Calvin Klein - no wire and not a sports bra- had to get naked with the salesgirl but well worth it.
