Topkapi Palace was very interesting.   They claim to have Abraham's cup, Moses' staff, and King David's sword, among other biblical items.  The only items I truly believed to be authentic were those of the prophet Mohammed.  Still, it's a cool thought that you might be looking at the real thing.   I know you'll enjoy every moment!

And we're going on a Bahamian Disney cruise over Easter....Just doesn't compare to Istanbul!

Wow! So happy to hear about all the impending travels.

Amy, the Disney Wonder was the very first cruise ship I was ever on. I didn't think I would like cruising but I'm hooked. Did a NZ/AUS cruise over Christmas/New Years and will be doing a California Coastal in early April. Travel is the best thing I know of (next to reading and chocolate).

Yorkie - what are your dates of travel?  Do get in touch with Stagefree, her "virtual" tours have been wonderful

    Caryn,

We did an Abercrombie & Kent Nile cruise 11 years ago and it was fab!  That was my first-ever cruise.  We'll actually be on the Disney Wonder over Easter.  We are looking forward to it.  My son (8) really wanted to go to Atlantis over break.  All of those tv commercials!  We haven't told him that is one of our stops on the cruise.  We're going to surprise him!  I've had a few friends who've done the European Disney cruise and loved it!  It's on my bucket list.  :-)

NZ/Australia cruise!  Jealous!  I bet that was gorgeous!  We used to live in So Cal (Orange Co) when my daughter was little.  We were 15 minutes from Disneyland.  We had a pass and would go twice a week.  It was fun!  Many of the workers at Fantasyland and Mickey's Toon Town actually knew Jinna by name.  Would love to live there again some day.  I'm tried of this Michigan winter.  Sigh....  Enjoy your coastal cruise!

My honey and I are hoping to take one of those European River Cruises; I want to take the one through Russia (one of my university degrees is in History, the other is in Russian Studies).  Would so love to see the country that has fascinated me for so long and brush up on my Russian!  We're thinking of our 25th Anniversary, which is in four years...

Amy, interesting that they claim to have those things. Makes perfect sense.

Selena, people have told me that the cruises that go around the Baltic are wonderful (even people who do not like cruises). I have been to Petersburg (back in the 80s) and it is magical. I would love to see Riga as well, since my people (the Danes) had a sturdy presence there for centuries.

VERY cool article!! I was wondering how/why they figured it was a women's bag and then they explained. Hard to believe that a woman was allowed to be politically viewed like that in that country...hmmm. I'd LOVE to hear what the people on "Ancient Aliens" would say about the whole thing. I now see a "space helmet" around that guys head they show on the purse! Amazing info from that show; like how architecture can be almost identical around the world at a time when there was no way for communication or travel! Things like that......they often quote bible passages and then interpret them through art from the time quoted to show some interesting factors. Like UFOs in some of the famous artists we've come to know and love! Can't remember which ones at this point...sorry!

So glad others were intrigued as I was. barbe, what's "Ancient Aliens" - probably another thing I miss cuz we don't have cable in this part of the world :)  But I didn't have it when I lived where it was available, anyhow!  When I moved here, and asked the AT&T what the cellphone service was like, the operator laughed, she said "I've never seen this b4.  It's listed as 'spotty.'"  And it was - there's cell phone service now, but not all over. I love it, probably would have been very happy living in 19th century, well, mostly happy.

Mac, we still don't have good coverage where we live. We called in Bell Canada and the guy came to check it out. To our amazement he brought out his cell phone to call his boss!! We told him he had to go stand at the end of the driveway to get reception. Doi!

I didn't have cable until I was 40 (16 years ago) as I can't just sit in front of a TV!! Then my Dad bought us a satellite dish for my 40th. We had to go out and buy a TV!!! I like to watch National Geographic channel, History, HGTV and the cooking channels. I've bugged the cable people for years to ask why we can't just pay for the channels we want! Why do I want 500 channels when I only watch 6?

Barbe I live in the 3rd most populated county in Florida. We have all the major carriers towers all over.  I have the crappiest reception from ATT. It sux. And I don't/won't have cable for the reasons you mentioned. Don't miss it a bit

Spookiesmom, that really surprises me about your reception! I still have a land-line obviously as I can't trust a cell phone. I thought I was the last house in North America to have a land-line! My sister has been all cell phones for years and years (she lives in Portland, Oregon) and her and her kids communicate that way as they are scattered with jobs and schooling.

I keep my landline because 911 service is still unreliable with a cell & I live alone. If I call 911 & can't talk I want them to know where I am.

Additionally, we have extreme weather here and I have been without power multiple times for 2 or three days, including one time when my meter was half-ripped off the house and I had a live line down in the yard and feared my house would burn down. If the electric company is calling me back I don't want to worry about whether my cell is dead or charging in the car where I can't hear it when they call me.

barbe, i am considering cutting back to basic service with no caller ID, etc.i have an old answering machine & if they can't leave a message I won't worry about it. Would save a great deal on basicservice.

I too still have a landline and for many of the same reasons as Melissa. And get this I have an oldfashioned telephone -  non-electric. It is punchbutton but works fine in power outages. We did have a rotary phone around here, may still do. I don't know about Melissa but our power - elec. co-op - is just as likely to go out on a lovely normal afternoon as it is in a storm. I only recently got DD to order me a car charger and spare battery to my phone - which is a candy bar phone - old fashioned. Bought used at phone store. Salesman tried to talk her into going to work for them, she put the phone thru so many programs to test it.

But I drove for a hospice job all over North Texas up almost to the Oklahoma border and deeper into southern end of metroplex - Glen Rose area. AT&T was the only reliable co. up there rural and the co. the hospice contracted with for their cell phones. Now that was 6 years ago so I'm sure much has changed. DD has some funky co for hers, says it uses same towers as AT&T but she rarely leaves the Metroplex. We go up to so. OK 2x/year - Melissa to Lake Murray outside Ardmore. Cell now works up there, didn't until about 2 years ago.

Sunflowers:  I ironed my hair too!  lol!

I am 57 (no, my birthday was Friday ... I'm 58 ... how did that happen?) years old, and due to a serious bout of H1N1 4.5 years ago, all my naturally wavy dark blonde hair (with some grey) fell out.  About 2/3s grew back in and now I have lovely light blonde long hair down my back.  I feel quite blessed to have this color with no grey at this age!  So there is my vanity.  One day I'll have to go to a hairdresser again to have it trimmed.

I am not a girly-girl.  I make sure my closet has mix and match pieces and I normally grab my clothes in the morning without hardly looking.  My husband says I always look elegant, so it must work.

However, especially because I am so fair (Norwegian), my eyelashes and eyebrows disappear without makeup so if I go out I always wear makeup.  If I'm at home, I don't.

So, I'm a mixture of vanity with a "Who cares" attitude.  lol

Barbe1958:  Is that the year you were born?  I was born in1956 and I was cruising gastown (Van) in the 70's.  You betcha.  The Doors!  Deep Purple.  Pink Floyd ... I went to so many concerts back then (when I first started going at 15, the price was $4.00 eventually went up to $8.00 ... lol).  My first concert was CCR.  I was at the Eagles first concert tour when their first album came out and they were backup to some other band but the Eagles sold the show.  Pink Floyd 3 times.  Alice Cooper twice.  Elton John ... and on and on and on.  I never saw the Doors, though ... my favourite group ... Jim Morrison ... still sad about that!

What a time it was (and it was good to be stoned ... although I tried it again just to see when I was in my 30's ... I didn't like it at all ... lol)

Good memories though.  Now look at what is going on ... ???

What a perfect combination - vanity & who cares.  I'm going to adopt that one.  Vain = I am constantly "plucking" these ( thank you chemo? Arimdiex?  age?) chin hairs, and love living in elastic waist comfy knit pants, most with paint stains, or dry pastel stains, and little pill balls all over. Large aran wool sweaters so holey patched you almost can't tell the patches from the pattern.  AND comfy shows, Keen Presidio to be exact.  And keen sandals in summer.  It is SO good to be older, 69 years young next month.  When SPRING WILL BE HERE.

I think everyone all over the world must be ready for SPRING this year.  Predictions of Polar Vortex retuning to us this week.  Weather doesn't usually effect me, and I don't think it's vanity, but I SWEAR all this cold and low barometric pressure is making me so tired...

Speaking of vanity - loving the pics of the "house" owned by the ex President of Ukraine.  Blimey.  When will people (men?) learn!

Candy bar phone? Does that mean it doesn't fold? Mine now doesn't fold but a keyboard slides out from the side....

Yep, '58 was a good year for me, Canuck! How the heck do you grown "hair down your back" in 4 years!!! I have trouble getting it to hit my shoulders. Always catching under my collar but never goes over it. I hate the feel of hair (especially sweaty) on my neck!

Cell phone?  What's a cell phone?  Seriously, I refuse to have one.  I have a land-line (I think), but I rarely pay attention to it.  Not even sure where my husband keeps the handset.  It's a result of my days working a help desk for an IT company; after processing 125+ calls a day, helping irate people resolve software issues, for three solid years, I have an utter horror of phones, especially ringing ones.  Been running from them ever since; can't imagine having one in my purse.

Got my hair cut again.  Seems like it still has some chemo-curl thang going on; once it grows past a few inches, it starts puffing out and standing up in corkscrews.  Ugh!  So, another super-short pixie, this time very blond.  I look like summer in this very, very, VERY cold corner-of-the-world.  NorthernCanuck... I'm of Dutch heritage and, like you, I have very pale eyebrows and eyelashes, as well as a very pale, natural lip colour.  Without make-up my face is just a blur of beige with no features.  Hence, I never leave the house without eyebrow pencil/powder, mascara and lipstick... even to muck in the garden.

My iPhone is my umbilical cord. I haven't had a land line for years. Calls, texts, emails, internet, I can always be connected...if I choose! (Disclaimer: I live in the heart of a Silicon Valley)

No good answer for you kayb on why cell service doesn't allow multiple lines. Apple is right up the road from me, perhaps I'll suggest it to them :)

    hi all

Glad you liked my picture- btw who said I get any work done......LOL

As far as the two cell phone thing- its a drag though I do have an iphone 5s for work but it makes you nervous and it stinks for real email.  My husband has a cell phone with 2 sim cards (t-mobile) he uses one for his US cell # and the other we can put a SIM in when we are out of the country but I am thinking you could put another US SIM in and have both #s on one phone- you can pick which one you call from and it tells you which one is calling- might be an idea and much easier to track and expense.

No land line for us either- in Wyoming a land line is kind of suggestion- its amazing how much phone lines and power lines are down and even though cell service is crappy you can text.  We even have satellite internet because its that or dial-up OMG!!! Now mind you that is when I am in WYO- in the bay I have ultra high-speed business residential service. I laughed at myself last time I went to a meeting (1) laptop (1) ipad, (1)kindle (personal reading) (2) cellphones- just the chargers alone are a drama.

Wyo, when I lived way out in the boonies here we still had a party line telephone in 1990! It was all that was available.
