So...whats for dinner?

Tiger sauce! OMG! I haven't had that since I was growing up. My mom always bought it. I will have to try to find some.
Last night was sesame chicken stir fry, one of Dh's favorites. (not mine) The boys have been eating what they want or not at all since they have both been sick this week. Tonight I am hoping to get them to eat with chicken parm. Usually BOTH boys eat when I cook that so fingers crossed. I have spent the whole week watching kid tv and I believe my brain has melted!
Carrie- I can't remember if I commented before or not but wow what a yucky day you had the other day! I am glad yesterday was better.
We still need to figure out what we are doing for the Super Bowl. I haven't been able to go to the grocery store so not much on hand. I might have to go on a weekend...eeek! But go to foods are the buffalo chicken dip, mexican dip, sweedish meatballs, chili and a pan of mac and cheese for kids/adults.
-
I'm probably the only guy with TV access in North America who won't be making a big effort to watch the Superbowl.
Eric
-
Eric- If it wasn't for socializing my DH wouldn't care that much either as our home team is out. I honestly don't watch- I just eat and talk

-
Nope Eric, not on our agenda either!
-
Chicken parm sounds good Laurie...hope the boys are well enough to enjoy the lure!
We have made no plans for the super bowl either....the game means little to me, but I do look forward to the commercials.

DH and I have not seen a movie in a theatre for many many months so decided to go on a mini movie binge.....yesterday saw Philomena, which we really enjoyed as a quiet emotional movie. Guess it was almost a true story....glammed up a bit by Hollywood, but nicely so.
Today we did a double feature (not exactly the way we did in the olden days!;). We first saw August: Osage County. It was wild! The performances were amazing, and at the end I felt like I needed to sit down with my clinician friends to examine all that was going on in that poor pained family. But it also had some very funny lines, and Meryl and Julia were outstanding! We ran out to have a quick early dinner at Chipotle. I had a salad with shredded beef and all the toppings, and DH had a chicken burrito with same. Then back to the theatre to see American Hustle, which was also well acted. I, however, always have trouble staying on top of movies that that involve "cons". I was tired (probably exhausted from Osage Cty!) so I dozed a bit and lost track of who was conning whom. I will see it again a home when I am awake and can follow the antics better. So many more movies to see (before the Oscars)... So little time.....
So since we had a super early dinner, there was no cooking here tonight....but I knew DH would have a bit of space in his tummy, so I made him a plate of dates stuffed with blue cheese with crackers on the side. I just had some too. Hit the spot!
-
Lacey: Thanks for the reviews. I loved Philomena. Thought the acting in American Hustle was probably good but I too got bored w/the story line. Will be going to see Osage County - specifically for Streep & Roberts. Also want to go see Dallas Buyers Club.
I played Chicken Foot all afternoon so it's popcorn for dinner.
-
Hate the superbowl and associated hype, love the commercials and the food!
-
For the first time ever I am looking forward to the National Anthem and I don't even like opera!
-
I am all for the Super bowl, as for the first time ever, a league like the Seahawks will be playing who have not been in the Superbowl
I have the biggest ever scallops ready to put in an pan and sauté with garlic and butter.
Talk about food porn. I wish I could post a picture
I am sorry that I haven't been able to read all the posts and respond to them all
I am feeling tired and tend to only have time for work and sleep these days
But, my crocheting is coming along so that is good
-
Lacey, nothing like a good movie in the theatre, great winter activity. I want to see the Dallas buyers Club.
Went out with friends last night to Syracuse for dinner....big mistake...totally did not take into account the big Syr/Duke basketball game in town. all restaurants had lines out the door, 2hr waits. we ended up at a Ruby Tues just because we were all starving, and it was a horrible experience, really had to make the poor waitress work for her money, just to get things as we ordered them. Poor girl, it was not her fault, we tipped her well for her efforts.
Today will be homemade soup and sandwiches of some kind, curled up with a good book and the Syracuse game on. I can sit through sports on TV if I read at the same time or have people to talk to. ADD? maybe Oh yeah and eating!
-
Woke up to a quarter of an inch of ice coating everything. And no temps above freezing fir the next week or so. Oh joy.
Maybe French lentil soup today.
-
It's 60F outside at just before 9am. Today, I'm going to be installing a transmission in thr car that DD will be driving--a 1993 Vovlo 960. A friend is giving us the car and it's a 4 or so hour job. It survived his two daughters (my "test daughters") teen driving years, so it should do fine once again.
Carberry, Sharon just about bleeds orange. It's still a huge joke around here that Sharon watched, on TV, Syracuse beat Georgetown on March 5, 1989..The morning after we were married.
Dinner is likely to be a slow roasted pork roast and "other stuff".
-
Oh Bedo - scallops!! It's so hard to get good scallops here in Houston.
Carberry - Do you want to comment on Dallas Buyers Club? A friend told me it was 'stark', but I still want to see it.
Eric - I guess we're holding up the warm areas. It got to 73 on my back today. I was soaking up rays until the rain started.
Nance - have you posted the French Lentil Soup before? If not, could you? I think I would love it if it's not too challenging.
Going out for salad pizza with some neighbors. This will be another try to see if my taste buds can stand salad yet. How I miss it.
-
Minus, it's quite easy actually. Here's the recipe:
http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/French-Lentil-Soup-236772
I'm using French green lentils but this recipe doesn't specify so I don't know what makes this one"French".
As usual when I'm stuck in the house, I baked -- cinnamon bread and rolls. Tomorrow is whole wheat and rye breads for sandwiches.
-
I just lost another post
My friend and I spent this afternoon on the car transmission... I don't think it made it to Minus' 72...probably 70..but laying on the cement kept giving us chills and we'd go stand in front of a heater to get warmed up. I think another couple of hours will be all that's needed to finish it up.
Nance, I have my sourdough starter out and will probably start some bread tonight...so you aren't alone on the baking front.
Carberry...Sharon is quite happy with the overtime win by Syracuse.
-
Thanks Nance.
Laurie - hope your kiddos are better & neither you or your DH caught the bugs. Good luck w/superbowl food. I know you'll make some great stuff as usual.
-
Eric that was an amazing game...two very equally matched teams. did not stay home to watch it. DH wanted to be where the action was. Went to local bar with friends (and all of the town). Lots of cheering and noise. good time was had by all.
Guess we are headed to Super bowl party tonight. was not planning on this, but I guess DH is in a party mood this weekend. Will make a spinach dip to take, based on the fact, that is what I have on hand. I am kinda excited to see the inside of these people's remodeled old farmhouse.
Minus A way back, Ellen did interview with one of the actors, previews and it looked like something I would want to see. Probably wont happen here though.
Nance I can just imagine the smells coming out of your house...mmmmmm.....Heaven
-
Well, the groundhog did not have a happy prediction for us....but we are experiencing a heat wave today! Yay....51 degrees!
Off for a walk, then baking some cookies since DS2 is stopping over before heading to a SB party, and I can send him off with some sweet stuff for his friends to enjoy. These days, I always have to find some willing victims to eat my baked goods, so I don't have them here tempting DH and me!
Have a fun day everyone!
-
Serious attack of vertigo today put me out of commission. I had such plans to make bread and meatball subs today. Instead have barely managed to choke down chicken noodle soup and some crackers. Shades of chemo.
Dinner will be whatever dh can scrounge up.
-
Hope you feel better really soon, Nance.
-
Thanks Lacey. Me too, this is no fun :-(
-
Nancy- I hope it passes quickly. No fun at all

-
Nance, add me to the list of those hoping it goes away quickly.
Eric
-
Hope it goes away soon. I hate that feeling.
-
Nance that is the worst feeling, I once had an episode (before BC) and thought I was having a heart attack! I have since had a few more minor episodes and have figured out that it is caused by fluid in my ears and head. An allegra usually clears it up for me. Hope you feel better quickly.
Super bowl was a bust...didn't care who won..just wanted a good game. Bruno Mars was a great halftime show though.
DH ran outta steam, so we stayed home. I made a pizza
-
Yesterday was a little annoying. The transmission is finished but it took a couple hours to undo two bolts. Then on the way home, the car I normally drive almost caught fire. If too many wires are burned, I'll just scrap it...It has 238,000 miles on the odometer and is 20 years old.
If I do get rid of it, DD wants a picture of it....It brought her home when she was born...
-
I made 1,000 burritos and froze them for work. It's always about 40-50 here in the winter
My hat is coming along we always bring snacks to the group. I'm bringing mozzarella balls, cherry tomatoes and basil in skewers with an olive oil dipping sauce.
Nance, I'm sorry about that feeling but,
yes , you Can try this at home
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YK2Zj_TrBhE
I'm getting a crockpot
-
auntie - vertigo is the pits, hope it goes away soon! I have known several people who have battled it and they all have said it is no fun at all!
bedo - 1,000 burritos is a lot! That is like a burrito factory!
Normally we have people over for the Superbowl and have snacks galore, but my SILs were here for a race that we did on Sat., and BIL and wife came over for dinner Sat. night, so by the time all left on Sun. we just sat around. I ate nothing and DH had leftover pasta. I stopped watching the game and went to organize my closet after half-time. Very unusual football-related behavior for me - must be the diet, lol!
-
Thank you for all the well wishes! I am nearly back to normal today, just very tired. Maybe the inactivity or the meclazine. I am forging on though!
Have 3 loaves of bread rising and am starting on the meatballs and sauce for the meatball subs. Trying to make up for a lost day and it helps to keep busy.
6-8 more inches of snow tomorrow. On top of the ice we already have. Aaaaaacckkk! Take me away from here!
-
Glad you are returning to normalcy, Nance. I've never had vertigo, but think I can live a full life w/o it! Sounds wretched! Love that you are already baking! Wish I lived next door to you.

Special, I can appreciate your wish for a "closet diversion" (:) during the SB game. Maybe it was the diet.......or more likely the totally lopsided game! Kind of makes me happy that our injury-riddled Patriots did not try to face the Seahawks! Congrats to Seattle!

Tonight I made my way back from the gym in our first snow storm of the week (am paying attention to your weather, Nance, since it is heading here!) and baked some eggplant which I then turned into a very non-greasy eggplant parm (tho I really do love the ones that are fried, then baked...the yummy oil laden versions of my Italian aunts). Made a garden salad to go with it....and I almost forgot....first course, my chicken pastina soup, from my mother's recipes. Made it yesterday, and the flavors were so much better today. DH was the first to mention that.....POINTS!
Bedo, I'm impressed with your burrito volume output. Wow!
