Caryn - Your trip sounds amazing! When you get back, please pm with any sites that I should put on my "must-see" list for May. I'm supposed to be going for 3 weeks through timeshare to locations in Australia & New Zealand: the Brisbane area, Hobart area, Sydney, north of Auckland, and Melbourne. So excited for you, and it makes me even more excited for my trip!
Huntsco and/or Morailf -- I know that I can't possibly see everything that I should in my 3 weeks, but do you have any tips for me? I'm not sure how far my location will be in New Zealand from where you are, but I'd appreciate any tips.
-
Caryn so excited about your trip!!! Waiting for some great photos asap!!!
Jill49 I love John Newman these days esp Down the Line & Love me Again.
Yesterday was DS' birthday party..
His favorite these days is a game called Minecraft on ipad & xbox. This is our homemade pinata, the character is called Creeper & creepy it is indeed.
Yummy birthday cake!
Back when I was dx'ed MO had asked me wouldn't I want to see my Ds' 10th birthday.. Well seen his 9th already.. Tired but happy I am
-
What a party, Ebru! The pinata is wonderful! That cake is fabulous.
Your son is adorable. But you know that.
Looks like a good time was had by all!

Great photos, Ebru. That cake is AMAZING!!!

Great to hear from you, Caryn. I'm so glad you took this trip and are having such a wonderful time. Looking forw
ard to seeing some of your photos. My DH and I are considering another cruise this spring, if my status is stable, that is. This time we would spend more time in Turkiye (I will be looking for tips, Ebru, if we do actually get to go), visit the Greek islands and finally Haifa and Jerusalem. Still in the fantasy realm until my next scans, but it's nice to think it might be possible...
What a cake, Ebru !!!! Every birthday is such a gift - yours, your children's. Looks like a terrific party.
I had the joy of my oldest son visiting this past week. It's so wonderful to have the whole family together, especially now that we have a new member - the lovely Josephine (who really got to know and enjoy her Uncle David). It was a stress free, low key week seeing good friends, brothers spending time together, eating good food (that mostly I didn't have to cook), curling up with good books as the snow gently fell.
Wishing you all a cheerful New Year and every best wish for the coming year.
-
Jill, What wonderful family moments, thank you for sharing.
Ebru, I absolutely love all that you did for your son's birthday. Everything looked wonderful!! Your son is so handsome.
Caryn, I hope your trip is continuing along beautifully.
I wish everyone the best in the New Year!

loved seeing all the pictures. Ebru, what a wonderful party you gave your son. Jill, family time is the best time. I just returned from a trip to California. Took my 9 year old grandson to see his dad who had moved out there hoping for a better life. He decided to come back to maryland because he got an offer to work in a restaurant that is opening in 3 weeks. Fortunately we were able to get him a flight on the same day we returned! We did enjoy disneyland and knotts berry farm as well as a Hollywood tour. The weather was gorgeous!! My grandson thinks I am the best. The feeling is mutual!

Tina! Congratulations!! So happy that your friends threw you a party, everyone deserves to have their wedding celebrated!
I haven't posted here lately, but that doesn't mean I haven't been doing fun stuff! In November my husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary in Hawaii! We went there on our honeymoon and finally got a chance to go back. It was lovely! We relaxed a lot, but we also did some neat things like scuba diving with sea turtles, zip-lining and tubing down old sugar cane canals. Super fun!
Recently we went up to Breckenridge (here in Colorado) and explored the ice castles with my kids. We also went on a dinner sleigh ride. They take you on a mule drawn sleigh out to a tent (mountain views everywhere) where you are fed a cowboy dinner of steak, grilled chicken, rolls, soup and veggies, with pie for dessert. There is a country singer entertainer and it was really just a wonderful evening. I'll try to post some pictures of the ice castles at the bottom of this post

hi Brandall , great pics from Hawaii
-
Brandall, thanks for posting the pics. The ice castles look really cool (no pun intended). Glad you are out having fun and living life!, though I think I would be afraid to zip line. I did ride all the roller coasters at Knotts Berry Farm though!
-
Great birthday pics, Ebru! DD is also into Minecraft so I may steal some ideas. Cool ice castles, Brandall. You even caught a rainbow in the picture from Hawaii. Love that zipline but you'd never get me into a roller coaster, Glenna. Way to go girl! Lovely family, Jill.
-
Brandall, I can't believe I lived in Boulder, CO for 13 years and never knew about the ice castles! Love the photos from Hawaii. Like Heidi, I wouldn't ride a roller coaster, but that zip line looks like FUN
-
Yea, those ice castles are fabulous looking.

Ladies,
Sitting at the Sydney Airport waiting to board my flight home (via Honolulu). New Zealand and Australia are magnificent. I really wanted to jump ship in Hobart but reconsidered after I realized my family wouldn't join me. The Taste of Tasmania Festival and all the boats in the harbor from the Sydney to Hobart race stole my heart. The perfect ending was doing the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb this morning. I dedicated my climb to you, my stage IV sisters. It was simply breathtaking. Will write more when I get back and have recovered.
Much love, Caryn
-
Caryn,
Your trip is inspirational. Eager to learn details and see pix!

I've just posted this on the NZ/AUS thread so thought a copy/paste was in order. I can't say enough about how wonderful my trip was. What really made it amazing were the warm, kind and generous people of both countries.
It would be far too difficult to pick a single most memorable experience. I was enthralled by just about everything! Here are some highlights:
NZ:
Auckland, big city, small town feel. A great starting point, wonderful people and lovely museum.
Tauranga, cute resort town.Kiwi vines, who knew they grew on vines? Golden kiwi, yum! I've only seen the green ones in the US. Manuka honey, beautiful flavor.
Rotorua, I have never seen so much geo-thermal activity in my life! Hot springs, bubbling mud pools and geysers. Loved the Maori village around the springs and the delicious hangi pies as well as the fierce Hakka dance. It was also a pleasure to soak my tired feet in the hot springs foot bath at the public park, smack in the middle of Rotorua. As a side note, I fell in love with the big plastic tomato shaped ketchup dispensers I saw in many casual restaurants and bought one in Akaroa. Nope, we don't have them in the US. Kitschy but cute.
Akaroa, sweet and picturesque with a French flair. Lovely little museum and good sea shell collecting.
Dunedin, one word: Cadbury! Great factory tour including lots of samples. The train station was gorgeous and I loved the Settler's Museum
Fiordlands National Park, just breathtaking, especially Milford Sound. I saw some amazing waterfalls and despite the cold and the wind (though clear and sunny), could not pull myself off of the ship's deck. Majestic!
Crossing the Tasman sea was rough. There was a storm that the captain tried to go around but it was a wild night. It sounded and felt as if the ship was being pummeled by a battering ram. I didn't get sick, but didn't sleep much either.
Australia
Hobart, I am in love with you. The yachts were in the harbor for the Sydney to Hobart race AND the Taste of Tasmania Festival was in full swing. Possum confit, wallaby burritos, scallop pie, licorice ice cream and great wine. I really liked the Salamanca area too. Also visited Richmond and the Bonorong Wildlife Sancturay. Those Tasmanian Devils are cute, but vicious things. Most importantly, I bought my first vintage Glomesh purse. I collect vintage and antique mesh purses but have never had a Glomesh. This is definitely a place where I could live.
Melbourne, as I love open air markets, I spent the morning at the Queen Victoria Market. The fresh produce was remarkable. I wish I could have brought it all home with me. Spent the afternoon wandering around the city. Great architecture, especially liked the Flinders St. Train Station.
Sydney, the grand finale! What can I say about climbing the Harbour Bridge? There are simply no words to describe standing at the summit and looking down on Sydney Harbour, not to mention how triumphant I felt at the accomplishment. Me! A woman who is not crazy about heights and has stage IV bc actually climbed that beautiful bridge. I was exhausted by the afternoon and wandered (hobbled) about Sydney in a bit of a daze. Off to the airport in the evening, tired but happy and hoping to return one day.
The only thing I didn't like? Vegemite. I suppose one has to grow up on it

Oh I enjoyed that Caryn.
When I was a little girl at school we use to go to Cadburys for school trips. In those days things were more open around the factory and boy was there lots of samples to taste as we went through the factory. Buckets of the stuff. It was a popular choice to see each year.
I'm sorry we didn't make contact when you were here. I did see the ship in and said to my dh "what if I go down to the wharf in my head scarf and jump up and down and see if you spot me." It was rather cool and wet while you were in this area.
You can be proud of making that bridge climb, it's one of those bucket list things people often have but I'm not sure it would be on mine.

Caryn,
Your trip is going to be my focus during today's MRI. The soundtrack will be a bit weird, but my imagination will provide great visuals. Thanks!

Caryn, I enjoyed so much reading your description of your trip, felt like I was hanging out in your suitcase! I've never had the urge to travel that far away but you've given me second thoughts!
-
Caryn - Loved reading about your trip! My trip in May will cover Auckland, Hobart, and Sydney as well; so, you gave me some good ideas.
