We got our first snow fall. I am watching all the birds come to the feeder and of course the squirrels too. I am doing well on my diet so no talk of cooking techniques from me. The suggestions from the sleep study I had done were to lose weight and not sleep on my back. Of course there is a devise I can buy to help me not sleep on my back, but I will try the losing weight first. The study said I never achieved REM sleep. No wonder I am tired all the time. Of course that was under the worse condition toward good sleep, I love my bed and pillows so I think I sleep a little better at home, but now am using a pillow behind me, too. I look like some kind of nocturnal animal; compression gloves, wrist splints, mouth guard, special pillow for neck, pillow between the knees, and I hug a pillow to my chest to keep the pressure off as I sleep on my side. There is not even room for a cat in that bed with me. lol
we are picking up the building permit for the other house today. The laundry room/bathroom switch is done. The new cobbler moves to the island next week. Things are moving forward.
enjoy your day today! -
My husband used the tennis ball on the back -
Did it work? I have strung a piece of webbing through a dog ball that has a hole in it and put a side squeeze buckle on it. Will try it tonight. lol -
Macatacmv, at another time I would probably appreciate the photo, but right now I'm not feeling very friendly to anything to do with snow. It very rarely snows in Jerusalem, and when it does it's usually Jan/Feb, not Dec. So of course today was the beginning of a big snowstorm there. Yep, the day I'm supposed to have my PET scan. Since I come from outside the city we left early. We figured we'd use public transportation since it would be easier than driving. We got to the hospital without any problems and then were told that they didn't know if they could do the scan since the radioactive material used comes from another hospital and the driver was on the way, stuck, and didn't know what would be (they had tried calling me to warn me but I'd already left by then). We waited for a long time and then found out that the driver couldn't get through at all, the police had closed the roads from there due to accidents (more than 1 on that road!) and icy conditions. So back home we went - or tried to. Almost no public transportation in the city, and no intercity buses at all. Fortunately a neighbor of mine works in the city and we were able to connect to get a ride home with her. Yeah, some connection - we walked more than an hour to get to where she was; road conditions in the city were too problematic for her to come get us. Fortunately, the "snowstorm" would never get that name in Toronto, where people would just say, "It's snowing". It wasn't too cold and there was no wind, so most of the way the walk was OK (I held onto DH's arm since it was slippery). At one point, though, my boots reached critical mass and my feel started to get wet. Not fun. Boy was I glad to get home.
The storm is still going on now and getting much worse. Apparently it's the worst storm Jerusalem's had in 50 years. This follows the warmest November the country has had in 60 years.
Leah -
oh Leah, what a mess and an ordeal for you...so sorry it all fell apart...if it snowed in San Diego the whole county would come to an immediate halt...what will happen next or do you know? -
Leah, That is really too bad. I'm sure you were all ready for the scan, and then to have it cancelled. Not to mention cold walks in the snow. That's what it's like here when it snows. No one can get anywhere and the hills are too slippery to drive. I'm glad you were able to get back home. -
Leah, that's a nightmare story for sure. It sounds like your area is no more equipped to deal with snow than we are here in the South, and whenever it happens it can cause everything to shut down. I'm so sorry you had to deal with it, no scan and that harrowing walk, but thankful that now you're home safely. Glad your DH was with you too.
Nancy, no REM sounds much like sleep apnea, but I understand you weren't diagnosed with that, assuming that you didn't stop breathing for any length of time. My BIL also used the tennis ball sewn to the back of pajamas, and it kept him off his back.
DS and DIL are running in a half-marathon on Saturday, and DIL's mother is coming to keep the DGS's. DIL has trained religiously for this event for months now, but DS hasn't, although he does work out frequently at a gym. Hope they can function Sunday since DGD's being christened.
Kathy -
Kathy, I hope the Christening went well. Could everyone stand up? (except maybe the baby.)
Leah, I hope everything has calmed down by now. Hopefully, your scan will be rescheduled soon.
We are getting another storm today. But since we are in the NE, we treat it like any other day. Also being on an island the snow does not last long, so usually disappears before it turns that ugly gray color.
I had to laugh when I was picking out my Christmas tree, I didn't brake in time to make a turn and skidded abit, so I just pretended I was heading for the other entrance around the corner. (I grew up in FL, but have learned to drive in the snow since I have lived here for 30 years)
I'm back to using a pillow behind my back. Tennis ball belt was not comfortable. It was funny, in the sleep study report they said if I qualified for sleep apnea treatment to let them know. Aren't they the ones who should let me know? Oh well, I have lost 5 lbs so far!! -
Hi ladies hope this finds you well and happy. Popping in with a bit of research on drugs and hypertension(high blood pressure). Hope you find it useful
Have a blissful Christmas L&H&P's Sheila, sassy
EXCELLENT NEWS, WILL MAKE US ALL HAPPY------------YOO_HOOOOOEVERYONE
I was looking for the journal article on google re: Tylenol, NSAIDS, an Hypertension.. This is a different article. It was a synopsis of the original article Written for the lay public. It's written very well. It states what I stated about NSAIDS and tylenol. EXCEPT that aspirin was found to NOT be a problem in older ladies, but can be a problem in younger ladies. Please, save this article for future reference. You may be able to help someone else.
http://www.drugs.com/news/otc-pain-relievers-linked-blood-pressure-women-1517.html
Another article written so lay people can read it. Information taken from the original journal article.
http://www.medpagetoday.com/Cardiology/Hypertension/1555
Original abstract that above articles were taken from. An abstract just hits the highlights of a research paper. The full article is the source for the above articles.
I like to read the original articles only to see if they are done according to good science. BUT they can be difficult to read b/c they get real crazy with techno speak. After reading the techno speck original article then I look for the best "human" translation. The above two sited articles are the best translations from the original journal article YAY>

Chrissy, I have a grill/griddle that size, too, but I didn't/don't like cleaning it. It's supposed to be nonstick but the "nonstickness" isn't the best.
Leah, everything stops here in the south USA when it snows. The schools are usually shut down. What unfortunate timing for you.
I ordered travelsox today for that long airplane trip from CA to AUS in January. I also downloaded 7 library books on my Kindle to bring along for reading. Our departure date, Jan. 9, is getting closer!
-
Good information, Sas. Thanks! I'm allergic to NSAIDs and can only take Tylenol, and haven't taken anything for pain for over 3 years now. I also have hypertension and take several meds for that.
Nancy, the christening went very well, and DS and SIL could stand! DS did the half marathon in 2 hrs 17 minutes, and DIL made it 10 1/2 miles. I thought they both did fine, especially since it was a cold, rainy day. And DGD got sick the day after the christening with her first RSV and ear infection. On antiB's now, so hopefully she'll be okay for the big Christmas party on Saturday. Many of DH's relatives haven't seen her yet.
And yes, they are supposed to tell YOU if you have sleep apnea, not the other way around. And congrats on the weight loss, too.
Tomorrow is DH's prep day for his colonoscopy on Thursday. I plan to lay low and hopefully finish up the shopping!
Hope everyone's doing well,
Kathy

Hi everybody.
I noticed it is Marybe's birthday this week. It popped up on my computer. She was really a great lady wasn't she?
I go to physical therapy, the car accident on Sept 3 really did a number on my thorasic spine. I think the pt is helping some but the pain in my thorasic spine really hurts so bad that I cant go anywhere.
I thought you all might like to know that Anne from the But Doctor I hate Pink blog is in the Best Health blogs contest again. She can win $1,000. to put toward her sones college education. Here is the url http://www.healthline.com/health/best-health-blogs-contest It takes me about 10 seconds to vote once a day. There are 33 days left. Ann is off of chemo because it was killing her bone marrow. She sleeps a lot these days and some days finds it too much to post a little items asking for votes. Her son graduates this year and it is her goal to be there. Anne was Cool Breeze on here. After she became stage 4 she stopped posting much here. Anne offers lots of encouragement to other BC women.
Christmas really snuck up on this year. I still have to wrap and mail a few presents.
Our weather here is very grey with lots of Fog. Seattle area winter.
DGD is 3 now and has this crazy vocabulary. Yesterday she was trying to explain something to me and I misunderstood her. She responded "specifically I was talking about _ _ _ _ ." specifically, at three?
Have a good Christmas,
Love Gingerbrew

Hi all just quick note to say it's seven years today I was diagnosed.
Not bad considering BS and once didn't think I would make two years. So
here I am and intend being around for a very long time. I made scan
appoint for later in January - my choice.Christmas sure has crept up, did my baking today - fruit mince pie, Belgium biscuits and shortbread. Will try to get presents sorted later I think I am there. But now my neighbour has delivered a 'treat' for us so will have to find something at least for the children.
Big hugs to all
-
Hi all!
Thanks Sas, as always you have some very good information.
Carole, yes mine is supposed to be non stick as well but I think I'm going to invest in some of that grill magic I found.......just so I don't have to scrub.......lol......I must be getting lazy in my old age but I can find way better things to do than scrub a grill......lol. Oh enjoy your trip!!!
Ooo Nancy! So glad you managed to get into that next opening and not end up in an accident! Scary!!!! Yay you on your weight loss!!! That is fabulous!!!
Kathy so glad the Christening went off without a hitch and that your DS and SIL could stand after doing the walk. Hoping DGD gets well soon as there is nothing worse than a sick child.......I feel so bad for the little ones but they do bounce back remarkably quickly. Fingers crossed that your DH's colonoscopy goes well.
Ginger, yes Marybe's birthday is the 23rd........I still can't make myself delete her from my friends list nor my phone.......sigh!......I do still miss her and her gentle but strong way of looking at things. She sure was a remarkable woman.
I also follow Anne's blog......now there is another remarkable woman!
Three year olds have a way of surprising us with their vocabulary......lol......I remember when my now 18 yr old GS was that age he could really baffle us with his words......oh and I might add that he still does, so nothing has changed.
Aly congrats on your seven year cancerversary!!!!.......you have my permission to keep on defying the doc's odds......lol.......we want you around for a whole lot longer yet!
That same GS got his ATAR (year 12) graduation marks today. They are the marks that say whether or not he has earned a place at University in the course of his choice. We are so proud of him.......he achieved a 93.25 / 100 so has definitely gotten in.....yay!!!
For those in the Northern Hemisphere.....stay warm!! For those in the Southern Hemisphere.....stay cool!....lol. Have a good day all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy
-
Alyson, congratulations on 7 years! Keep on keepin on girl!
Chrissy I too have all our departed friends still on my facebook. I just can't be serious about deleting them.
My Dd passed her national certification test for Marriage and family counseling. I am so proud of her. I was sick when she got her Master's Degree so I didn't get her anything special then. Now I want to get her a gold cuff bracelet that she can keep forever. I found a vintage one that has a beautiful slightly swirled patter with part polished and part marked to make contrast. I need to go ahead and buy it. She can return it if anything is a problem so I feel more secure. I sure hope she will love it. Who knew there would be soooo many choices.
All of your baking sounds delicious, enjoy.

I picked a hard time of year to diet, but am hanging in there. Went to a cookie swap last night, but only ate 3 cookies and gave the bag I brought home to the men painting the inside of my house.
The cookie swap was my local BC support group. We laughed so hard!!!!! We share so honestly there. We cried a little too. But it was mostly us laughing about boob blow outs and such. A lot like here.
Congrats on the smart kids getting degrees and into university. We just swell up with pride when our kids do well, don't we?
-
Alyson, how wonderful that you surprised your BS and Oncologist by living much longer than two years! Wishing you many more healthy years.
The gold bracelet sounds really special, Ginger. My parents gave me a beautiful watch when I graduated from college. I still have it even though the face is so tiny I would need a magnifying glass to tell time! It was a Witnauer (sp?). I'll have to google and find out if that watch is still made.
I was sabotaged today by a very well-intentioned man at the YMCA (gymn) where I went to exercise. He gave me a little Christmas stocking filled with candy. Some of it was chocolate and before the day was over, I ate it! He makes up these little stocking treats at Christmas and hands them out to people wherever he goes. He's a very nice man.
I remember Marybe. I really admired her for her spirit and courage. She was never self-pitying. Another bc sister who passed away this year was Michelle (luv rving). She fought so valiantly and was a real inspiration to all of us on the What's for Dinner? thread. I also will never forget Apple. I feel fortunate to have "known" all three of these remarkable women.
-
-
Carole, I so agree. I will never forget any of them either, but especially Marybe. She was the first I came to respect, love and then lost.
-
Oh I do miss those women. Apple and I had a special connection; we were on the Stage III boards at the same time and then moved to Stage IV at about the same time.
I had the PET scan on Tues. I should get the answers this week. I know there's progression (TMs are up and they're pretty reliable for me) but the question is how much and where. New tx will be Faslodex if there's not too much progression or chemo (don't know which one) if there's a lot of progression. Obviously I'm hoping for Faslodex.
Leah
-
Hoping for less progression right along with you, Leah!
-
Wow, so many posts here! Great!
Ginger, hope PT helps you more soon. Back pain is so miserable. Congrats to DD, and the gold bracelet sounds perfect. Vocabularies of grandchildren are amazing, and I think how they develop is based on how others speak to them. "Specifically", what a huge word for a 3 year old!
Alyson, so glad you proved everyone wrong and are still around to tell the tale! i know I consider myself fortunate to know you.
Chrissy, outstanding GS you have there! Congrats to him too. Thanks for asking about DH's colonoscopy. It went well, nothing found, and not due for another 10 years. Both of us slept a lot that afternoon!
Leah, I so hope for not much progression for you. Hope your snow situation is better now, too.
Carole, don't beat yourself down about the chocolate. You're doing great, and as my father used to say, " when you're dieting, it does you good to have something you shouldn't every now and then". And I too loved Michelle.
Chabba, Marybe was always one of the kindest people on these boards, so kind to everyone. She is and always will be missed. I sometimes think of Tim and "Daddy" and wonder how they're doing. I also miss Isabella, and Melissa (Still Vertical").
DGD is better and will be coming to the big Christmas party (the one we're hosting) for DH's family, but now DGS#1 is sick. Hopefully DS and DGS#2 will come tomorrow, but DIL and her mother will probably stay home. We're ready, I guess. Turkey's cooked and dressing is ready to be baked in the morning, cake is made, and all that remains is gravy and DH's mushroom pie. Tables ready at church too. Everyone else will show up with side dishes, desserts, and someone's bringing a ham. I'll be glad when this is over!! Then it's on to DGS#2's birthday on Sunday.
Have a good weekend, everyone.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL!!!!!!
-
I will be doing some cooking today and tomorrow for Christmas dinner at my younger sister's house. All five of my siblings and their spouses are supposed to be there. Also my mother, who will turn 91 on the 27th. We'll have three or four children. Not sure about the fourth. They are great-nieces and a great-nephew. It should be a nice family get-together. The dinner will be informal and buffet style with lots of food. Too many carbs!
Wishing everyone a joyful and blessed holiday season, whether or not you celebrate Christmas.
-
Merry Christmas to all of you. I hope your time with friends and family is filled with peace and joy.
Love Ginger
