And I wish I could edit this meme to say "fighting" for the right of free speech, because they're not. They want the freedom to say any hateful thing that comes into their tiny minds, but don't want anyone to (a) criticize them or (b) say anything that they disagree with.

And finally, hypocrisy personified:

-
E - welcome home. I cannot wait to hear more about the penguins! By the way, maybe my most favorite animal species in the whole wide wild world. (Spent 2 weeks, daily, observing Yellow-eyed penguins in Dunedin, NZ.) Is that a South African head scarf? You look fantastic.

I thought when I saw this.....is anything really free ????? Most of the "FREE" stuff I've gotten was not worth the price paid for it. Seems some people ( as in what RL said ) would like to have no limits where they are concerned, but jus the fact they are bringing it up so often means that they are wanting to limit you. Ok for me, but. Sort of puts a whole new light on who the REAL takers are, and they want to keep right on. In their world it seems to be ME,ME,ME, and not much of anything else unless it is the ability to misquote or misunderstand things that were meant for everyone from the original inception.

I recall Alec Baldwin lost his job recently for homophobic remarks. Why didn't the right take up his cause. Oh, I know. He isn't right wing. Just ignorant.
-
In all honesty I find the whole thing pretty ridiculous. They have the reality show basically because they expect the people to say and do dumb stuff. Then he says dumb (creepy dumb, but dumb) stuff and they kick him off. I'm with Chris Hayes on this one. Let him talk it's all part of the show. (Which I've never watched BTW)

But then so is the DD caricature. So why the different response?

'Duck Dynasty': Inside the decision to suspend Phil Robertson
Dec. 19, 2013, 7:10 PM EST
By Sharon Waxman, Tim Molloy and Jethro Nededog
TheWrapA&E's top executive carefully considered whether to suspend "Duck Dynasty" star star Phil Robertson over his anti-gay remarks, and ultimately decided his comparison of homosexuality to bestiality was over the line, a network executive told TheWrap.
The executive said that Nancy Dubuc, the CEO of A&E Networks, ultimately reached the suspension decision because Robertson's remarks were in conflict with "the fundamental values of the company." Dubuc was responding in part to the concern of employees within the company, the executive said.
"She gathered all the information, assessed it, thought seriously about this," said the executive. "It's a dilemma."
Dubuc is one of the most powerful television executives in Hollywood, overseeing A&E, Lifetime and History channels. Her dynasty is powered largely by "Duck Dynasty," the highest-rated reality show on the air.
'Duck Dynasty': How Phil Robertson Became an Instant Conservative Martyr
The executive also said that arguments that A&E had somehow taken Robertson's free speech away were ridiculous, as a suspension from a television show did not curtail his ability to speak out freely.
The executive said that any notion that A&E had a conflict with Christianity was also absurd, considering A&E's History just aired the hit miniseries, "The Bible."
The decision to suspend Robertson came Wednesday night, hours after an early-morning phone call between A&E executives and GLAAD, the civil rights group told TheWrap. A GLAAD spokesman would not say which executives were on the call.
"They took this very seriously, as soon as the news broke," said Rich Ferrraro, the spokesman.
A&E initially released a statement from Robertson in which he said he would "never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me." But the network declined to comment itself until Wednesday night, when it announced the suspension.
Both the network and GLAAD have gotten heat for their stand: Talk show host Sean Hannity gave out the numbers on the air Thursday of Dubuc and A&E chairwoman Abbe Raven, and both received personal messages on Twitter. Some called for a boycott.
"Dear @AETV, congratulations, you just committed suicide," one "Duck Dynasty" fan wrote.
GLAAD, meanwhile, said it has never received as many angry calls and emails about one of its positions as it did about "Duck Dynasty."
"In the five-and-a-half years I've worked at GLAAD, I've never received so many violently angry phone calls and social media posts attacking GLAAD for us speaking out against these comments. phone calls who believe that he's correct."

I just sort of think this says it all : A&E initially released a statement from Robertson in which he said he would "never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me." But the network declined to comment itself until Wednesday night, when it announced the suspension.
My thoughts are if Robertson said he would " never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me ", then why did he ???? I personally see it as fairly disrespectful to sit in judgment and take on jury and sentence as well, since it is Robertson's opinion that these people will deny themselves the same chance as he for going to heaven. Didn't he ever read that part about throwing the first stone. We have all the televangelists we need, and certainly don't need the 'expressive ' language and ideas foisted on those who are different. If no one has to behave......why have the laws. I do think it goes back to minding p's and q's and choosing appropriate behaviors for yourself and your family......but the rest of us may not need or want it.
Since I'm not for realty-type shows....it is just my opinion and may count for nothing. Que sera, sera.

Heh. Just saw another statement wholly on-point:
The people crying about free speech this week are the same ones that were trying to force me to say "Merry Christmas" last week.
Word.
-
Not to be too off-topic but something I just glimpsed and thought to share:

-
And to go along with the above:

-
Oh, some of the jewels that turn up:

-
Just finished cleaning downstairs and it's only 6:45am. My darling invited people over for a bbq this evening, so panic mode - house dirty. They can use our ensuite - now all sparkling. Floors downstairs vacuumed - we'll just have to stop them going upstairs

The sweat is literally dripping off me at this time of the morning.
Now I have to make food - doing my Xmas special potato salad, so after cooling down, I'm going to cook the potatoes. Then grocery shopping.
Still have to pack for our trip on Monday - going to see our gorgeous grandbaby in Adelaide for Xmas. Wow - no cooking for 9 days - yippeeee!!!!
-
-
Suzie....no cooking for 9 days......I would have to stow away if I were closer. Enjoy....
Jackie
-
Jackie - this is the first Xmas I've not had to cook for 12 years - I deserve it!! Staying in an hotel and eating our or at our daughters suits me just fine.
-
Potato salad made, now just have to shop. Got no idea what meat I'm going to buy. Steve said we should get the steaks we have Friday nights - I explained that they are very expensive and I'm not getting 9 of them!!!
-
you could go with the caricature and throw a couple of shrimp on the Barbie. Have a wonderful holiday Suzie
-
Kay - LOL - got some nice scotch fillet steaks and some nice Outback spirit sausages. Not much more for me to do but relax and make salad later today and watch Steve clean up the backyard
We eat our main meal with salad ie we don't have the salad first. Got some cheeses and dips for snacks.
I was so preoccupied with getting food for the bbq, I forgot our lunches for the next 3 days, so had to go and get some cold meat on the way home.
-
One more and I'm through with those of his ilk:

-
BBQ went off without a hitch- 9 of us - they loved my potato salad and garden salad. Steve did a good job on the cooking - we have left overs we can use for dinner tomorrow night- hurray!!! The only thing that went wrong was that he insisted having it up the back by the pool due to the afternoon sun and a tree that recently lost all of it's leaves. What a laugh, by the time he cooked it was getting dark and we couldn't see what we were eating
We have no lighting up the back of our property. We got a couple of torches out and managed - just. normally we would have it just outside our downstairs family room which is well lit. I couldn't find any candles, but we did ok with the torches. Now to start packing for our trip - I can't wait!!!
-
Good Morning Friends,
Can't believe it's already Saturday ... the time is flying by. What's everyone doing for Christmas? Do you celebrate on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Our holiday will be really simple this year. I don't think my family will be coming, except maybe my mom on the 25th. We already exchanged gifts between my mom, sis and I on Thursday when I drove down to NC. It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive to get to my mom's house ... sure wish she lived closer to me.
Sunnyflowers ... I have to tell you about our weather today! The high is going to be 68 ... yeehaw! I'm even going open the windows. It's supposed to stay warm and start raining for the next couple of days. Tim is back in NC and he is so glad to be away from all that snow.
Gumby ... I think the Duck thing is kind of silly as well. Does it really matter what some Bible-thumping redneck has to say about anything. Those Ducks are so far off my radar ... they are on another planet.
Suzie ... The bbq sounds delicious. Glad you had a good time. Wonderful that you don't have to cook for 12 days! I never cook, so I can understand that joy.
PiP ... Thinking of you today and your nephew. I am so sorry for the loss to your family.
Jackie ... That picture of the Duck is funny. That fool can say whatever he wants. Who in their right mind would take anything he has to say seriously.
Hope everyone has a good day,
Bren

Bren - 60 here tomorrow. 70 in New York city. Strange. And rain, days of rain, b4 it goes back below 20, we'll be iced in. Super week to be indoors. Hope Mr. Tim is HOME before all this hits the East Coast. Seems strange to have it be raining, when there is SO MUCH SNOW on the ground.
Okay - I still can't "find" this "yale" study...was it worth looking for?
-
Sunny - it wasn't a "study" even though someone thought it was - it was the view of one professor and it was on the thread that you refuse to visit - I didn't read it, wasn't interested.
Can't believe you're having such warm temps - we are expecting freezing rain through here starting this afternoon and going on all night - hopefully the wires hold - I've lived through enought ice storms (in South Carolina) to last me a lifetime - hope you've got everything you need to wait out the weather.
-
Ok....some one will put it in I think. Might as well be me.

The catch to this one is at the bottom......good read though: http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/12/20/sanders-obamacare-single-payer/
Rained yesterday afternoon, late, most of the night and now pouring rain this morning and will all day. The good news ( for which my fingers are crossed ) is that ice or sleet or any of that will stay well back to the west and north of us. Dh and I kept quite a watch as we have already had days and days of ice.......I do though feel for those who won't miss it and may be having to deal with it for perhaps the second time. We started out with temps that were close to summer-time. The one day almost 65. So, the rain now is not a surprise. Just a really odd time to get so much rain through so many hours.
Sandy...thanks for clearing the "Yale" thingy up. I was afraid I put something in and the link didn't set properly which seems to happen to me. I don't get into links and "studies" from any other threads etc. I actually only scan on occasion which over time has gotten somewhat rare. I don't care to read anything where the abundance of material is just idiotic personal attacks. I have better things to do than wade through a plethora of juvenile name calling and if this is indicative......no wonder the Repugs and Tehadists get a toe hold only to turn around and fall completely on their face.

It's raining here in Niagara too and we're keeping fingers crossed that the temps stay above freezing today and tomorrow. This weather system is playing havoc with transportation. We have family coming in tomorrow from Alberta and from Mexico, so expecting plane delays by the dozens. But the good news is that all this rain is slowly making the snow disappear, and the outlook for travel on the 24th and 25th (in which we will be in our car) is looking good!
Studies and polls are pretty useless to read, unless there are explanations (the questions being asked, who was polled, how were they reached etc.). I just read a report about Hospital executives of major U.S. hospitals. They were queried about the ACA and how it was going to affect their institutions, both financially and through quality of care. Some 93% agreed that the ACA was going to be beneficial.

LOL – that post of the blogger and that Yale Study don’t
represent the study at all! Kind of
ironic that both the poster and the link demonstrate exactly what the study
author Kahan was trying to demonstrate.
What we see and what we want to so badly
believe are sometimes in opposition. When study participants were presented with "fake
studies," they would more likely to want to pick the wrong conclusion
(despite their ability to do the math on the fake numerical outcomes of those
studies) that matched their political beliefs if the study, for instance,
involved subjects like gun control, e.g.. If the studies involved
subjects like rashes and hand cream usage, the subjects were more likely to
interpret the fake results correctly. This worked equally
for Conservative and Liberal study participants. The real crux of the study showed that the
higher one’s numerical abilities, Conservative or Liberal, the more likely the participant
would dig further into the numbers to try and come out with a conclusion that
matched his/her beliefs.The
link posted over there was by a Conservative blogger who twisted the true
conclusions of the study, probably by focusing on one "fake study"
presented to the participants that showed only liberals getting to the wrong
conclusion due to their biases. The blogger worked pretty hard to refute the
real conclusions!I will add, think about Nate Silver’s POTUS election
predictions that had Romney loosing by several % points in 2012. I don’t need to be reminded how that same
group of posters would dispute that over and over and go to the one outlier
poll that supported their beliefs of Romney winning the election. Guess it is pot calling kettle black time.I’m having grave problems with my computer and had
to type this in word. Ofcourse, I have
HUGE problems with cut/paste in BCO, so the combination is deadly for the
outcome of this post.
