I second what Sunflowers said. Thank you Jackie. Bill Moyers is a national treasure and his words perfectly sum up what is going to lead us into a Plutocracy (and some would argue we might already be there now). Someone over there was celebrating the ratings of Fox News - all I could think, more subjects for the feudal kingdom - nothing to celebrate and in that context, good ratings are a depressing thing. No different for any other network that works for the power elite.

Chris Christie, if involved with that malicious act, should have tried that on a Bridge to Nowhere, not one into a state governed by Mario Cuomo. If indeed this is retribution to the Democratic Mayor who wouldn't endorse his gubenatorial bid, then bigger than shame on him - it sounds criminal, very Mafioso, indeed. Nope, don't want no leader who runs his business based on payoffs and retribution, though he sort of does fit that stereotype.

Hah, Blue, I was going to post the same thing. The "ratings" don't say whether people watched it for the comedy effect, for intelligence purposes (as my deputy used to say, he watched it to see what the enemy was saying and when the mob was coming for him with pitchforks and torches), or whether they actually are ingesting that intestinal byproduct. I don't watch it because I have better things to do with my time, and I haven't been vaccinated for rabies. Same with websites like that - I don't look into sewers to see what is slithering around in them, so why should I pollute my brain with sewer websites?

Hi, Canada, I'm reading a deliciously wonderful book, the English translation of The Alley Cat, by Yves Beauchemin. Orig published in 1981 as Le Matou. Get most of my books at used books stores, I have fabulous book karma, and the "right" one just jumps into my arms. Never heard of this author, or book, noticed it did say over 1,000,000 copies sold worldwide - seems retty good odds if that many people bought it, it must be good. It is. Just starting, but it's good, strange, and FUNNY.

Finished Donna Tartt's second book, The Little Friend. Now just have to find her 1st one. Amazon has it.

Weather report - the 4 inches of snow we were supposed to get, was about 8 inches ago. People actually get PAID real money for these predictions. Don't they READ all those fancy machines?????? It's a balmy 8 degrees. Rain due this weekend. I'm thinking of going to sleep til Spring.....

Bren - you said he was headed for Maine - they're going to get the brunt of this storm. And if the predictions are as OFF as ours were, "expect 4" and we've gotten at least 8 or more so far, with several hours still to go b4 it stops. And that's on top of what we got Sat/Sunday. The foot they were to get in ME, well, glad he's in a VERY big truck At least it's the light fluffy stuff, and SO damn cold, there will not be a thaw, therefore no ice. Until the RAIN on Saturday. And in the 50's by Monday. But I don't believe anything I read, hear anymore. Just trust what I see outside my door.

RELAX tomorrow...says she who freaks out weeks b4 my annual DF checkup - and I don't even have anything that can be mammogramed They just talk, poke a little, and more talk. Comforting tho...

Sunny, RL, Kam, Alexandria....and anyone who enjoyed Moyer's piece as much as I did, I have to confess I wasn't sure how it would be received.  Don't know why other than it is somewhat scary but did "speak" to me about why our government has been working ( or as of the last few years -- not working )  very well and why and how such extremists could get such a foothold and let loose with all the destruction.  Quite upsetting, but a great look at where we have been and where we seem to be headed. 

Bren, sure hope all will be well tomorrow.  Think back to how not scared I was for such a long time......till the day I got my diagnosis.  The relief has likely made me forget.....but this last time when I went.....just the first of this month for my yearly mammogram.....they did a 3-D type and I don't recall that so much squishing had to take place.  Since I have dense tissue.....and since every bit of my innocence has vanished...I usually tell them to squish as hard as they want --- because I don't want any thing to be "missed".  Maybe you could ask them if there is some way to " make it a bit easier ", but I would imagine if they do anything that is 'easier' they would have said.  I don't have rads damage though....and for most things I have a pain tolerance that is at the top of the chart pretty much -- so  I have to say.....I am probably the last person who should be trying to come up with ideas. 

I would have been terrified if I heard 'shots fired' and would have called the police as well.  This is what so bothers me about guns.  People can be so very responsible.......until something goes wrong with them.  I'm just thankful it wasn't some military weapon.  I hope he gets help because that could have really gotten ugly. 

Hmmmm, I'm one of the  ( not too often though ) Fox viewers who tunes in because I find it hilarious to watch these people spew some of that idiocy with totally straight faces.  I also chuckle when I hear Fox and MSNBC ratings being compared.  If that is all it takes to make the feeble Fox audience swell with pride....by all means Fox viewers....don't give that up ( cough-cough ) but as far as I'm concerned....I'd rather feel pride in a person who holds out their hand to help another, or a person who feels good about others doing well, or a person who will, when seeing a military family having a meal, go up quietly to the cashier and pay their bill.  I'd rather feel pride in saluting a returning service person from overseas....but I digress.  If you get a great sense of worth over some stupid t.v. ratings....you go for it.  Hope it continues to soothe and swell your chest.  We all get to choose what makes us feel good.
