SNOW. It really is lovely, but still so unusually cold. Time to snuggle into those flannel sheets & finish my 2nd Donna Tartt book!

Carrots, we had our Santa Claus parade today to. It is our first year in this small town and I was surprised that it was so much later than most. It was so nice to have it this close to the day. They did a wonderful job. Much better than the ones we had in our previous, and much larger, town. VERY cold but beautiful evening.

This article came out in Oct. and apparently I missed it.  I don't know that any one else did, but thought I'd put it in here just in case.  http://quietmike.org/2013/10/03/origins-of-the-tea-party/  answered a couple of nagging questions I have had for some time.  I did find that much to my surprise insanity  is actually catching, as the Koch bros. seemed to caught it, along with a great love of money from tobacco companies, from their lunatic father.

As well as that little gem was the dad's thinking on people of color whom he thought were going to take over America and make it a Communist country.....hmmm, even Charlie Manson thought the blacks would take over.  Sure seems to me 'certifiable nuts' tend to hang together.

No wonder you can't reason with a Tea Partier -- they lost all semblance of sanity when they allowed the fear factor to take them over and become their driver.  Well, the cliff is always right before you now.

RL.....Andrew Sullivan = wow has he got it right.  If the group he is talking about weren't so mean, small minded and basically nuts I'd feel sorry for them -- but delusional people don't get better, so why waste it, huh !!!!!

What statistics support the right wing claim that ACA has resulted in fewer people being insured? Is it just me or are these counter intuitive claims just plain wrong? I can guess at the purpose for saying such things - even if it is not so.

Lassie, they are probably counting only the people whose crappy insurance policies were cancelled because they didn't meet the minimum requirements of the ACA.  You know, the ones with a $10,000 deductible for which they paid $500 a month - hence they are bitching hysterically about their cancellation.  And they are not counting the heretofore uninsured people who are now insured, because if they didn't have insurance before, then CLEARLY they don't count as people.  Therefore, fewer people are insured in their reality-challenged tiny minds.  They are wrong.  Or they are lying.  They don't know the difference.

Press Release from HHS from last week:

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    December 11, 2013

    Contact: HHS Press Office
    (202) -690-6343

Nearly 365,000 Americans selected plans in the Health Insurance Marketplace in October and November

1.9 million customers made it through the process but have not yet selected a plan; an additional 803,077 assessed or determined eligible for Medicaid or CHIP

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced today that nearly 365,000 individuals have selected plans from the state and federal Marketplaces by the end of November. November alone added more than a quarter million enrollees in state and federal Marketplaces. Enrollment in the federal Marketplace in November was more than four times greater than October’s reported federal enrollment number.

Since October 1, 1.9 million have made it through another critical step, the eligibility process, by applying and receiving an eligibility determination, but have not yet selected a plan.  An additional 803,077 were determined or assessed eligible for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in October and November by the Health Insurance Marketplace.

“Evidence of the technical improvements to HealthCare.gov can be seen in the enrollment numbers.  More and more Americans are finding that quality, affordable coverage is within reach and that they'll no longer need to worry about barriers they may have faced in the past – like being denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition,” Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said. “Now is the time to visit HealthCare.gov, to ensure you and your family have signed up in a private plan of your choice by December 23 for coverage starting January 1. It's important to remember that this open enrollment period is six months long and continues to March 31, 2014.”

The HHS issue brief highlights the following key findings, which are among many newly available data reported today on national and state-level enrollment-related information:

    • November’s federal enrollment number outpaced the October number by more than four times.
    • Nearly 1.2 million Americans, based only on the first two months of open enrollment, have selected a plan or had a Medicaid or CHIP eligibility determination;
      • Of those, 364,682 Americans selected plans from the state and federal Marketplaces; and
      • 803,077 Americans were determined or assessed eligible for Medicaid or CHIP by the Health Insurance Marketplace.
    • 39.1 million visitors have visited the state and federal sites to date.
    • There were an estimated 5.2 million calls to the state and federal call centers.

The report groups findings by state and federal marketplaces.  In some cases only partial datasets were available for state marketplaces.  The report features cumulative data for the two month period because some people apply, shop, and select a plan across monthly reporting periods.  These counts avoid potential duplication associated with monthly reporting.  For example, if a person submitted an application in October, and then selected a Marketplace plan in November, this person would only be counted once in the cumulative data.

Hmmmmm, white Jews ??????What will they think of next ?????  Maybe I don't want to know.  I am not well versed and know it --- lost a lot of medical 'ground' and getting and retaining facts is always a challenge.  However; as to the M. Kelly's and others of her ilk......were I seated in front of 'the world at large' I think I'd be checking some of my ? facts ? before I so casually and with huge conviction aired them.  They are so used to saying what they like and how they want it to be that they miss how incredibly STOOPID they  appear.

I don't know how many "viewers" buy that load of it....but I'm betting not near as many as they would have you believe.  Some of us that tune in do so just for the hilarity of watching someone with a straight face spew forth with today's LOAD.

As to the ACA....it is my thought that the segment of the population who NEVER wanted this to work are still denying facts while arranging figures that fit their propaganda profile.  On MTP this morning Ryan was on and said it is still the mission to rid the U.S. of "Obamacare".  They must be terrified at what is going on right now with numbers ticking up at such a consistent and rapid pace.

He and his ilk may or may not manage to do something along this line, but a whole lot of people are now being insured  or will be in short order and it is going to be no easy thing to try and take away from many of these people what they have never as yet had.  In the words of my late dad.....it better be damn good because if not, you will be crying tears as big as horse turds.  At that though......I think we will have had ACA long enough it may NOT be feasible to either party to change anything unless it is to single payer.

    Good Afternoon Ladies,

I've been busy so far today working on a forensic report. Yay for more work! This particular client of mine likes to call me on Saturday night to make sure I'll transcribe his report on Sunday! This is also the guy that forgets to pay me ... and every month he gets an additional $25 on his bill for a late fee. I guess he doesn't realize I have a mortgage ... just like everyone else!

Still chuckling over the Megyn Kelly broadcast. Who cares what color Santa and Jesus are.

Sunnyflowers ... Tim left early this morning and is headed to Portland, ME. Up in your neck of the woods. Sure hope all the roads are plowed and he doesn't get stranded somewhere. Since we aren't really celebrating Christmas this year, he may just stay out and work next week as well.

Enjoyful ... been missing you! I think you get home today from South Africa. Sure hope you had a great trip. How is your arm/shoulder feeling? Were you able to get around okay with a bum wing?

Hoping everyone is enjoying their Sunday ... my favorite quarterback is on TV now ... better get going ... I have huge old lady crush on Kaepernick!

    hug,

    Bren
