God blessed us with good jobs and good retirements, also we never had any inclination to keep up with the Jonses, so we were also able to accumulate good savings. We have always felt we should give back and serve Him by helping others. We are not rich but we are comfortable.
-
Having worked with people on welfare and medicaid, I can tell you that it was a miracle for her.
-
Chabba, you are awsome for helping that lady! Mouth infections can be dangerous. I had an abcessed tooth once and my dentist had a heck of a time clearing the infection to do the root canal on it. Three rounds of amoxicillian wasn't clearing it. I was swithced to keflex and was told if that didn't clear it I would be put in the hospital. My reaction was isn't that a little severe. He told me that infections in the mouth can cross the brain barrier. Thank God the keflex worked.
-
The infection has gone to my sinuses, so it is on its way to my brain. I will ask my dentist for a really good antibiotic on Tuesday. That's the next day he is in the office (I think). I guess I should call him today to check. Now it hurts to touch my cheek, but the tooth itself does not hurt as much, sometimes not at all. I still have a week until I get to the root canal specialist, but they have me on an emergency list. They stick emergency list people in when other people cancel.
-
I wouldn't wait until tuesday to call - this is getting serious... call whoever you can and get an antibiotic!
-
SCREW THE ENDODONTIST still a week off! Child, unless it's a front tooth, whicih you can get a "partial" for it that hooks onto other teeth, unless it's one you see a lot, just get it yanked out at the ER. The ER ALWAYS has a dentist there or on call. He will be the very best, he will do exactly what you need (and can afford) and the pain will go away. Hon, you don't have to save all your teeth, particularly those back ones, they ALWAYS go first. Now, lookie here, when I say ORA-GEL, I mean the over-the-couner ointment tube, about half the size of a toothpaste tube, and you squirt that in where you tooth is and rub it around it on the gum and tooth, and it numbs up the tooth VERY WELL, nearly always. It will get you to your appointment if you choose it.
Seems to me, if you're all settled in your condo, WHY would you sell it, particularly if you owe more than it's worth, I think you said? As long as you can hang onto this job or some other job, it's a great investment. Why, in just ten years, think of how much equity you'll have built up in it. I sure as hell wouldn't be moving while I had cancer, neither! Have you at least had surgery? I just want you to DO something positive on this thing here. But you do whatcha gotta do. I should try to support you more, and here it takes me almost a week to get back online in here. I'm so sorry. I've had some very wierd stuff go wrong with my back, unbelievable pain, I cried all day yesterday. I'm setting up an appointment wit an orthopedist and while I fear he'll label me as a drug seeker, since I already take some piddly stuff that IS NOT WORKING (in fact, it was OTHER docs who gave me my two pills), but if the ortho would add in a small botle of 90 pills of oxycodone (not oxyies or oxycontin, very addictive) for 90 days (I think you have to go in every three months or someting). One pill a day should do it. It's either that or surgery. So, I know how you feel, at least. Even wearing a back brace when I'm up doesn't always help much.
CHABBA, I am extremely proud of you and so happy you were willing to part with so much cash for that lady's tooth. You give what you can when you can. As the Good Shepherd said, "If a man asks you for your shirt, give him your coat too." Chabba you gave a coat, cooler, boots, gloves, and a new haircut and makeup job, too. SMILE!!! GG

Dune.......how many dentists have you tried......it's an emergency for heavens sake. Baltimore is not a small hick town........there has to be hundreds there.......also, don't let just anyone pull teeth......top teeth are dangerous to pull if there is an infection.......know that as a fact..........
Get out the yellow pages............what about you PCP, he can't recommend someone.....what about your BC Doctors...call their offices.......never heard anything so asinine.......what kind of a Dentist tells you wait in an emergency......none I have ever encountered........good luck.. -
Dune I have lurked but never posted. You should look up umd dental clinic. Dental school has emergency clinic at low cost. Hope this helps and tooth is taken care of.
Lisa -
Thanks everybody! I see the endodontist Friday. I'm not in pain anymore. I have been taking antibiotics since my visit to my dentist, so I guess the infection is controlled.
Gail, I'm sorry about your back. Did you manage to get the pain meds you want yet? I hope they work for you. As for selling the house: I want to move out of here. I'm very lonely and I want to move in with my mother. However, if I am not able to sell it I am prepared to stay.
-
DUNE, I understand about your house now. I'm glad antibiotics prevented an emergency rooom visit of yanking out your tooth, but that is what to do NEXT time this comes up. The chemo, as far as I'm concerned,is what did me in on my teeth, and gaveme osteopenia (one step before osteo porossis), and has turned my back into jello. My back is a very serious proble; cancer diesn't seem like anything in comparison. I have picked out an osteopedist group that are tops, they do that non-invasive surgiacal reviion if needed, hopefully they'll give me the one medicine they should have give me ten years ago, those SOB's, all thanks to the FDA and 'war on drugs.' What a joke. Even someone terminal with very painful cancer would do better to score heroin than take what the doc is unwilling to pass out. REALLY EATS AT ME. It's the dang pharmacies, for pete's sakes. Not the docs, not the patient in pain. Drug addicts is the other problem. They are ALREADY addicts. There is treatmetn for addicts and scheduling approaches with phrmacies. i see cops everywhere for people on he highway or b&e crimes to get money, but no one does nothing to thoe pharmacies that hand them out like candy just to get the money. OH, I could talk a mile aobut my back. i am terrified of losing my spinal cord from the waist down,a lready figured out where to put an elevator to ge me into the house from the car. WHAT A MESS. But that's for Aug or Sept, takes a whileto get a appointment, got to call several docs tomorrow.
Glad ou were willing to share, Dunes, it helps to get it out aqnd talk it over. I kow your birds and you will be much cheered and heped by Mom. Later! gg
-
Gail, I have actually considered the heroin thing. It just scares me too much. That war on drugs crap is so incredibly misguided. I should not have to add anxiety about whether or not they will give me anxiety meds to my already elevated anxiety. It's total bullshit. And you should not have to suffer with such pain when there are pain meds that can help you. And I believe you are suffering. Hell. My mother is having a huge problem with her back right now. She has done all the physical therapy stuff. Now she has had 2 spinal injections. She is still in pain. She doesn't want pain meds, though. Anyway, she is scared about surgery; but she is in enough pain that she is considering it. I'm sure she will be talking to the doc about it the next time she sees him.
I went to the dentist this morning. He cannot save the tooth. It's going to cost around $5000 to fix the problem. Just one bloody tooth! However, it is the best option. My mother says she will give it to me as my Christmas present. That's a hell of a Christmas present!!!! I will try to hook up with a dentist/oral surgeon who will allow me to make payments. I have to wait a couple of weeks to try to schedule a September appointment with the local dental school. They will do an assessment for $92. Then they will determine all the work that my mouth needs. Then they will contact me. Then I guess I'll decide what to do. For now, there is very little pain. I just have to be very careful about chewing. The tooth has a vertical fracture, and he says it will eventually break in half. Oh my.
Hang in there Gail!

I have been neglecting my pictures this month - sorry about that - Going back to the pain management doc this morning.. Now that all the grandkids are delivered back to parents safely, I can now take care of this pain.. Primary doc thinks its going to be major pain med which means I probably won't be able to drive for a while - that is really hard for me as I drive down the hill at least 4 times a week.. It will be a major lifestyle change for me and I don't want to give that up -
Dune - hope your tooth gets better soon and Gail - you and Dune have tried to keep Fuzzy's topic going - I will bump it up too - with pictures this month.. Blessings to all!
"Good Morning Sky"

Gma, your photos make me feel like I'm there with you. Thank you for sharing.
-
Yeah, I love Gma's photos. She lives in a very beautiful piece of the world, up in the clouds. It sure looks like a nice place to be.
I went to the new dentist today. It just keeps getting worse. My mouth is probably going to cost me around $10K. The tooth needs to be extracted and replaced with an implant. Either that or I will have a tooth missing when I smile. There is a molar that needs a root canal. I need that one to be right in order to be able to chew all those veggies I need to eat. It would be a lot cheaper to buy a juicer. Both of those teeth will then need crowns. Then there is another tooth that needs a crown. The doc said it had had a root canal but the crown was never put on it. Either that or the crown broke. I don't know. There was too much. I have an appt for the root canal the end of this month. I have an appt for the extraction the beginning of next month. I have an appt for a cleaning Monday.
God help me!
-
Had dental work done a few years ago implants, etc....cost $34,000. .....yes you read it right....
-
I just pray you can get some financial aid for that Dunes..
(((((((((((CYBERHUGS))))))))))
-
Foggy morning here. Makes for a cool morning walk.
-
FOLEY is right, DUNES, about checking on financial aide. But you say when you smile, you'll be able to see the tooth missing. Which one is it, exactly? Let me tell you what I went with. First, I didn't care about any teeth on the bottom. On the top, I only worried about the two front teeth, the two teeth next to it, had to seriously consider the ones next to those, and then I let all the other ones go. You'd be surprised how well you can chew even if you are missing a few molars. I chew with NO TEETH. HA! Please, think long and hard about losing a few teeth. It sounds like some of them want to go whether you like it or not. Even crowned teeth, while they DO last a long time, for years, eventually they will go too, unless you go to the dentist yearly to get them professionally cleaned, unless you are VERY fastidious about flossing, brushing, and so on. Most people will convince you to hang onto your teeth, because when you lose a bunch of teeth, IT AIN'T NO PICNIC. It's a sorrowful thing to work hard on teeth all your life just to watch them break, get cavities, get so rotted you need a crown. Hon, just reevaluate your situation. Most people will not know if anything other than the front six teeth (three on each side) are gone, and even that last one isn't key... you can get a little partial for that tooth, not too expensive. Apparently you have gum disease, which explains the unbelievable cost. They have to keep cleaning and working on those teeth for several years to try to save them. But I agree with anything you decide; for only you now what you can stand and what you cannot. Bless you, I've been where you are.
Sorry I been gone so long. A lot going on, a lot of NOTHING if you ask me, and today is my Dad's birthday, so am going to take folks out to eat and give him some lucky finds I got for him!!! Ya'll take care. I still haven't called the bone doc yet. gg
-
DUNES, I forgot to mention that part of cleaning teeth, besides flossing and brushing, is to get one of those mouth spray guns, where water goes thru a little plastic gizmo hooked to a pump, and it sprays out all sorts of junk that can get stuck in your teeth. I'll never forgt the first time I got me a PIX, i brushed and flossed and rinsed as best I could. But when I turned on the PIX and blasted them with water through, between, over and out, TONS of flakes and chunks of tiny dirt came out of there!!! That is one of the best favors you can do for yourself. I used to floss every day whenever I had a problem tooth, and i used the PIX pretty much every day. I cut back on 3x weekly for flossing when my teeth weren't giving up much. So, it's not like you gotta do these things every day for your life, but I recommend it.
Also, they can pull this tooth, but you DO NOT NEED an implant. IMPLANTS are what cost DUCKYB in the main so much. They are SWELL to have, it's just like having the real thing, you don't hardly realize it's in there, and VERY good replacements for front teeth. But if you are in serious financials on this deal, a little partial is great. It has a tooth on it, and a thin upper gum fitted in really nicely, and you can get one that either comes out, or is wrapped by wire very tightly against a tooth nearby that is in good shape and will hold up. I got the kind that came out, I loved it. At home, I could just go around without that tooth, very comfy becuz no gum glue to put in (ucky stuff, which i use for my false teeth all the way across my gums and the roof of my mouth). So, I just wanted to fill you in a little, since I witnessed the slow deterioration of my teeth from about age 45 to age 60, when I finally had to get false teeth. So, I do local chores, and all around the house and yard, i DO NOT WEAR THEM. I look like a hick, so I fit in real good in these mountains of NC, home of hillbillies, and i also don't care. See, I just don't like that glue paste stuff I have to put in there to hold them in place. The little bit you'd have to put for a single replacement tooth is not much at all, I don't have bad memories of it in particular, except it's ALL a pain in the neck.
I see my breast cancer doc not this Monday, but next Monday, and I almost dread going, fearing the thing none of us should fear, and that I preach about not fearing, which is it spreading somewhere. I do not believe there's any in my still-existent boob. But spreading, I would have no idea without the machines and bloodwork stuff he does on his patients. And i still have to contact an orthopedist about my very seriously getting worse back problems... but I am not sure I can afford it this year. My birthday is in November, so maybe then. gg
-
Sorry it has been so long since I have been in here. I just got FIOS installed, so I can check in properly now. So, it is November, Gail. Which day is your birthday? How is life treating you these days?
I had the tooth extracted and will make an appt for next month with the oral surgeon. If it all checks out OK, I go ahead with the implant. It is much easier to eat these days, and now that I am making soups again, it is even easier.
Foley, are you still busy with those announcements? I am working at Office Depot. It is very challenging for me. -
dunes glad to see you again, whats challenging about office depot? Hours, or actual job? Xx -
Hi Lily. I'm very introverted, very afraid of people; and Office Depot is all about sales. I got hired as a tech, and I do enjoy fixing the computers. However, our primary responsibility is to sales, even if I am in the middle of working on someone's computer. I have to put all the stuff back in the bench, lock the bench, take the customer to the printers or tablets or what have you, try to sell them something, then try to sell them something to go with whatever I might manage to sell them, then go back to the bench, unlock it, pull out the computer or computers, and bend down to start working on them, only to be interrupted by another customer. LOL. If I don't have computers to work on, I could chase after customers all day and actually be able to help maybe 5. If I am working on the computers, though, I am interrupted by at least a dozen. It is like the old days when we would go to the restaurant. The best way to get your food to arrive at the table was to light up a cigarette. In this case, the best way to get a potential sale is to open the tech bench. LOL. And I really hate sales. I keep trying, though. I learn as much as I can so that I can sound halfway intelligent and convincing when talking to a customer. It rarely works, though. hehehehe Anyway, that is mainly how it is challenging.
When customers are ignorant I cannot always restrain myself from giving attitude right back to them. That can be challenging. And today I had to say no to a request to come into work. They keep calling me into work and my hours are really starting to pile up. Since I put so much effort into engaging with customers, that is draining me a bit. It's good to have some money to repay mom for the dental work though. I bet the Christmas season is going to be a blast -- NOT. Probably the only blast will be Dune Sleeper blowing her lid. I still have time to become a competent sales person, though. It's all good. -
I asked DH how he could make sales calls all the time. He said he thought of the customer as someone with a problem that he could help with. Maybe trying to think of it that way might help. I think being interrupted would be very hard. I'm ADD and I would have a hard time resuming the repair. -
To add. I was always very shy. Finally I decided to assume the other person was more shy than me and would be grateful if I spoke first. It helped. -
I would not have the patience either, despite having been in sales before, customers can be really demanding and quite unreasonable at times, I had some phoning me at 9pm on Saturday nights! At home.............
Seems a ridiculous set up to me that you are supposed to do both.....can you pretend to be mega busy to get customers to come forward!!! I hope they are paying you well and you get commission on sales?
I have become more anti people since diagnosis, I find most people not worth bothering with now so I don´t. -
That happened to me, too, Lily. Working is forcing me to be around people, and I think that it is probably for the best. I did threaten to quit today. Boy! They sure managed to show me what I wanted to know in a hurry when I said that. I told them that I had been there for several weeks and STILL don't know how to submit an order. They said "the customer comes first." I said "Well how am I going to serve customers when they come in with computers needing repair if I don't know how to submit the work order." Anyway, he ran through it quickly with me. That is better than nothing.
I all but cussed out a customer today. I was trying to find the correct ink for one customer and the other wanted to know where something might be and was upset that I wouldn't take her to it that moment, despite the fact that I told her I was helping another customer at that moment. Boy! She gave me attitude, but I gave it right back. LOL. Maybe I just really want to get fired or quit. I don't know. It keeps me hopping, and I figure, in time, I will improve my ability to communicate with other humans. That would be kinda cool.
