Exercise - Working Back to it After or During Treatment

curveball. Thank you so much -
any time, gritgirl! One thing I forgot to say, you mentioned in an earlier post you might be having a biopsy, I assume of the liver lesion. I had to have one too because they just couldn't be sure what they were seeing on the scan, and I was really freaked out beforehand thinking about having that big old core needle shot through my liver. I had mistakenly gotten the idea it would be done with just a local anesthetic, like a breast biopsy, but it turned out they used conscious sedation (like for a colonoscopy), so I didn't remember a thing, and had only a little itching afterwards while healing. If a biopsy is in your future, I hope that reduces any anxiety you might be feeling about the procedure.
My exercise report, 45 minutes gardening yesterday, and about an hour and a half today. It was beautiful and clear and really too warm in the sun for my big ol' wool jacket. I also took three boxes of books to the Goodwill dropoff. Now I'm a bit pooped so it's a good thing tomorrow is a lazy day. Just driving up to my mom's and going with her and my visiting aunt to Thanksgiving dinner at a friend's house. Mom doesn't like to drive after dark. -
My exercise today was cooking like a bat out of hell, lol!
gritgirl - effin' cancer! Sorry to hear about this but hopeful that the meds will beat it back.
-
Gritgirl, so sorry to hear about your test results. Hope you will get the biopsy done soon so you will have answers. The waiting is terrible. You have maintained such a great outlook and positive attitude through this whole hellacious journey; I know it's hard to be positive right now. But it sounds like you have great health care providers who will do the right thing for you. You are in my prayers and I am sending lots of ((((HUGS)))) your way!
To everyone, Happy Thanksgiving. And to any of our Jewish friends, Happy Thanksgivukkah! -
(((Gritgirl))) -
morning gritgirl
Sorry it wasn't better news.
Hugs Mara -
thinking about you gritgirl. Have you started Kadcyla? How is your body handling it? I hope the medicine gives you great results.
It's in the 20s where I live and I'm buying layers upon layers to run in. Can't take treadmills.
Hope everyone celebrating Thanksgiving had plenty to give thanks for. -
I certainly do, Michelle. I did mostly runs this holiday as hitting the pavement from being blown off your bicycle is painful. I was rewarded with seeing a baby seal on Friday. Amazing light and waves.
Even better, I emerged from this holiday SMALLER than going in. Happy December everyone. Can't wait until Christmas. We are already in Advent with more amazing celebrations to come. - Claire -
i start kadcyla on Friday. Hoping it is easy.
Went with friend to gym this weekend. Looking to do a yoga class with a friend. I will exercise with a friend.
Hope everyone is OK. Thank you so much for asking, tarheel. This is scary -
I walked to the library and back yesterday, but didn't exercise today. -
gritgirl - definitely scary, sending you strength. Glad you can exercise/yoga with your friend, that is always better!
Last of the stitches are out and I can go back to regular exercise. I have been decorating for the holidays so lots of bending, carrying, climbing, etc., but no formal exercise. I am deciding whether to go to the YMCA tomorrow and convert my Livestrong to a regular membership - thinking I need some structure in the exercise department.
-
hi gritgirl. Sorry it's so scary for you.
It's my hospital visit this Wednesday with the onc so not much exercise this week just lots of comfort eating hope to make up or it later.
Mara -
specialk. Glad the stitches are coming out.
Mara. Eat as much comfort food as you want. -
I have been on vacation but oh shit, sorry to catch up on your news gritgirl. Beat back that cancer. Take a baseball bat out in the yard and beat something and imagine it's those mets. My brother sent me a Ted talk that was interesting. If you hold your arms up in a victory pose you actually raise testosterone levels. Along the same lines if you force a smile it sends the happy hormones out. So this made me think what physical pose can we do to slow down cancer?
On vacation exercise was walking up and down the beach and so much more pleasant than walking in the cold with my cheeks stinging from the cold. I have to find another way for winter. -
glad to hear everyone is moving about the cabin, so to speak.
Claire, what a treat to see a baby seal. I am a mite envious.
Gritgirl, hope that yoga can slim down your fears and make you feel better. Yoga helped me a lot through the self-loathing that came after my initial diagnosis. I sorta hated myself for getting cancer. I don't expect your experience to be the same as mine but my point is, yoga can heal so much that is broken and give even more power to your areas of strength. I hope you and your friend have a wonderful time. Peace and hugs to you. -
thanks, twohobbies. i say beach walking is the best exercise.
tarheel. i sure need the yoga for flexibility and strength
started going to gym with a friend on saturdays. hope that will make a difference. my new motto? i like to move it, move it. -
-
specialk. Perfect. :-) -
I like to move it, move it! For all of us! -
gritgirl - I watched it and it made me laugh! It was really a pretty funny movie and I should watch it again.
-
always love that song.
Tonight was yoga. I am clearly out of shape. Class full of 20 year olds and I was falling over and desperately trying not to fart or burp. Note to self, next time I have gas, just do yoga -
Gritgirl good for you getting out amongst the 20 somethings. We may not be 20 but we are BC warriors. They got nothin on us!
I just walked 25 minutes in 11 degree temperatures so I'm quite proud of myself.
-
gritgirl that made me laugh. I definitely follow the advice about no eating 3 hrs before yoga. Otherwise, gas, rumbly tummy or just digestion sound effects would disturb the peace.
Hope the new medicine isn't too rough on your system.
TwoHobbies, you have the fortitude of a polar bear. Way to go!!! -
tarheel. Yoga is at 8:30 so can't wait until after to eat. Side effects are moderate so far. So determined to live through this crap, that went to gym with friend on Saturday.
I agree twohobbies is a polar bear. -
I also walked today for 38 minutes but its warmer (relatively) and snowing. When its snowing its kind of romantic and beautiful. Still my face gets frozen so I've got to do a gym or Zumba or something indoors but until then I'm trying to get something in. My doctor used to say 30 minutes of exercise 5 times a week and now last appointment she's saying 45 minutes to an hour seven days a week. Really? Sigh.
-
twohobbies. That's based on new research. I think it's back and forth with that research. Eggs are bad for you. Then eggs are bad for you. I ignore it all and do what I can and consider it a win. If I tried to do 45 minutes 7 days, it would never happen. -
hi gritgirl. I survived the onc visit. I am on a wait and see no scans until April a bit worrying but also a relief not to go through Christmas with scan anxiety.
Exercise is mainly Christmas shopping I do miss your wonderful shopping malls. We have very crowded streets and hot shops at this time of year. So you go out wrapped up for a cold day and all the shops have intense heat, that plus hot flushes from the letrazole it's a nightmare just hope I am sweating off a few pounds.
Mara x -
mara. Why don't you get one of those plastic sweat suits to wear while shopping. That way you'll really be sweating off the pounds -
it's frustrating gritgirl. I'm sure if I do an hour a day the next recommendation will be two. I don't have a ton of faith in those studies anyway cause I've been part of them and you're asked to recall how often you exercised 35 years ago. Ok now tell me how often you exercised 30 years ago, etc.
Mara shopping is good exercise. I hate hot flashes too. I wear my coat in the car and have to rip it off in 5 minutes then put it back on to walk to the mall then take it off. -
twohobbies. Got no idea how much I exercised 30 years ago. But I sure as heck had a much higher metabolism. C'est la vie. I've earned those pounds
