Still short of breath. i'm just hoping it clears and i don't have some new, fun thing.
specialk, take advantage of it, do the tourettes, and people will let you skip to the front of the line. -
Gritgirl, you have a wicked sense of humor, love it!
To you and SpecialK, hope you're feeling better! -
I agree Gritgirl does have a wicked sense of humor!
Hope the itchies are gone soon...
Tarheel- those appts frustrate me too! This one was with the rheumatologist that I waited 4 months for. Basically she just said it is fibromyalgia, to take double of the med I was already on and see her in 8-10 weeks. For this I waited 4 months...ugh! -
ginger. I'm so sorry
I'm still sick. Tomorrow going to a sauna to hopefully bake some of this out of me.
Today was first day I took subway so got some walking in. I hate being sick. Life just isn't fair at times -
gritgirl, I'm sorry you are not feeling better. Are you feeling any better, or still the same. If you are still the same, I am a little worried about that.
Peace to all of you. -
ronda. It's been very slight improvement. If it's not much better by Monday, I'll be back to the doctor. Of course I have in my head that this is the cancer yet again. But gotta let that go. My family has traditionally died of heart disease. I am a major outlier in my family. I never, ever pictured this in my life. I always figured I'd be a crotchety old woman in an old folk's home. -
OK, I, too, will envision you as a crotchety old woman in an old folks home, and together our imaginative powers will get you there.
There's no sense in you spending any more time feeling so poorly. I am glad you will be going back to the doctor by Monday. I hope you will recover remarkably this weekend and be back to your young healthy self. -
aw shucks, Ronda. You flatter me. Young. :-) -
gritgirl - I realize this paints a yucky picture but what about a sputum sample so they can be sure you have the right antibiotic? I'm so sorry you are not yet feeling better.
I am back to the doc on Mon. as the steri strip allergy has spiraled out of control. Today I started astringent compresses and steroid cream, but they want to check me out. The incision is still closed, thank goodness. Also good, finally got some sleep! -
I haven't been exercising much this week. I did something to my leg last week, maybe slight groin pull? That made it very uncomfortable to walk any distance at all. Plus I have been home nursing a very sick kitty since last week. I walked very slowly to library and back yesterday, which is about 2 miles. I was feeling that pulled muscle or whatever it is, all the way there and all the way back, but it seems a lot better today. The cat is a little better too. Now it's time to go put together an IKEA chair. I have family coming to visit next week to see my house and have lunch, and not enough chairs to seat all of us! -
Hi everyone gritgirl and Specialk glad your going back to the doctors to be looked after.
Claire my slow dance reminded me of end of night dances when we younger very romantic. My dh hubby needs cheering up at the moment he has been a real rock but the stress is getting to himat the moment. Fortunately he is fit enough to go walking with friends and play lawn bowls so my exercise is through him this week. Although I have managed the housework.
Hugs Mara x -
Once again I haven't really been exercising during the week other than walking from parking lots. Its finally gotten cold here and its the time of year when I need to decide what am I going to do for exercise since I'm not much one to like the cold weather. Thinking about joining a health club or Zumba or yoga. A little intimidated by all three because I think I'll be surrounded by the fit 25 year olds with 2 foot long hair no matter which direction I go. I looked for the cancer survivor exercise programs but the one at my hospital is during the work day. I guess its for people who are too weak to work.
Gritgirl and Special K I hope you can get your cold and incision healed up.
-
our park district has indoor walking tracks that are free to use. When Im not being a lazy butt I try to go after work 3 times a week and walk. -
Twohobbies, have you tried yoga? I discovered it during my first bout with breast cancer. One of the things I love most about it, is that it is almost impossible to pay attention to others next to you, because you are concentrating (either concentrating on relaxing, or concentrating on a pose). I am easily intimidated in gyms, and knowing that other people weren't checking me out, really made me love yoga. I would suggest you speak up to your hospital and ask for a survivor class that meets YOUR time-of-day needs. It is a very small economic investment on their part and there are more than enough studies to show that yoga helps survivors. Maybe there is another place that offers gentle yoga, such as a cancer center, senior center or church. Good luck! Give it a try! You may have to try a couple of different instructors before you find one that is a good fit.
Curveball, get well wishes to your kitty. And wishing you lots of strength as you prepare for family visitors.
SpecialK, have you had a steri-strip reaction like this before? I'm so sorry. The reason I am asking, besides caring about ya, is that I am wondering in general if our medications collectively make us more sensitive.
Aviva I am envious of your indoor walking tracks. I'm a real baby in the cold months. I may resort to climbing stairs in my apartment building, rather than run in the winter.
gritgirl, hoping Monday comes soon for you. Hope you are taking it easy today.
And congrats to everyone who has time and energy to move it, move it, move it. Anything counts. Park far away at the grocery store. Walk around the doctor office before you go in. We can do it! Yay for us! -
I like to walk/run outside, - if its 65 and windless. Im a baby too. The indoor track is nice. -
tarheel - you are sweet! I have a known tape allergy, they knew about it, I asked about it as they were putting the steri-strips on and they thought it would be fine - NOT! In all fairness, I have had them before and they have been fine - but not anymore apparently! The raised, swollen, ugly and very ITCHY area is perfectly rectangular and in the shape of the block of steri-strips. I will be interested in what they have to say on Mon. I have been putting Domeboro compresses on it, and 1% cortisone, and emollient on the bandage but it looks no better, so... I am not sure about the increased sensitivity, but I do know that I have had hideous reactions to all kinds of things - the irrigant used during mastectomy, the antibiotic given at mastectomy, the tape on my mastectomy incisions, the steroids during chemo, the chemo itself, the antibiotic given for a UTI during chemo, the list goes on, and I will be moving into a large bubble any day now, lol! -
specialK I hope you are itch free soon!
Gritgirl- I am trying to picture you as a crotchety old lady. I can picture you old but I am not sure cranky is in your cards. You are too funny for that!
I saw a new PT/Lymphadema therapist on Friday and am optimistic she may be able to help me some. I am also looking into the paleo diet to try and decrease some of this inflammation.
Hope everyone else is doing well! -
specialk. How are the healings going?
I think I am finally starting to feel better (knocking on wood here).
This was a long trip down bronchitis lane. Sucks.
I'm back on the subway so that means more walking. Hoping the viruses stay at bay. I like being able to move at least a little bit -
gritgirl - I am good - saw the derm today - I still have a massive welted area on my back but no more steri-strips and they removed the end stitches - which turned out to be a long stitch tied at each end and hurt a bit to have removed. I go back in a week for the next one and they will stitch it closed both under and on the surface, so no more tape. Glad you are on the mend! Bring a can of Lysol and spray the entire metro system with it, lol! -
glad to hear Monday was a better day for both of you, gritgirl and SpecialK.
I ran a little today, and finally reached 100 miles on my running app. 100 miles in the past year. Not all of that is running or jogging, but I was happy to hit triple digit fitness. I have a friend who lost a lower leg to cancer who will swim more than 700 miles this year at his YMCA pool. And my husband is running the NYC marathon on Sunday. I can't brag to those overachievers, but I'm gonna toot my paper party horn here.
Peace and good health to all. -
Hi All, I just wish I could do something. Skirted another hospital stay this weekend; spiked a high fever (104) on Friday (one week post chemo #3) and thankfully the doctor kept me out of the hospital this time. Blood counts the lowest ever (could not even register a neutropil count) but sent me home with antibiotics. Thankfully the fever has stayed at bay the last two days, but my hemoglobin is down to 8.8 (just above the transfusion level) and it's all I can do to walk a flight of stairs. I keep getting ready to join the gym-- my knee is finally better-- but now I can't function. I do read all of your posts and cheer you with all your accomplishments! I was never sick until I got my mammogram last spring.......
Martha -
rhody - I know it is hard to be patient, but a gym is probably the last place you want to be with low blood counts! Once you complete chemo you will gradually recover some energy and be ready to exercise - absolutely do not beat yourself up over the inability to exercise during chemo! Walk around the block if you can, that is all anyone can expect.
tarheel - we are all tooting our horns for you too! You are doing great! -
ronda. Good for you!
Specialk. So glad things are healing.
Rhody. This is the time where little bits count. Even just walking across the room.
So glad you are hanging in. My oncologist told me immune system stuff can still be impacted even a year after chemo. Do you have one more dose left? I assume you're getting dense dose. -
Hi gritgirl and everyone
Hope you have a great weekend. My exercise has been walking and shopping. Not too much but the lovely autumn colours inspire me to get out there and make an effort I do have to dodge the rain but the wind picking up the leaves is to wonderful to miss. I just love the crunchy sound of leaves underfoot.
Mara x -
mara. So good to hear from you. Shopping is definitely exercise. I finally am feeling better from the bronchitis so have been getting more walking in.
See my oncologist Tuesday and I'm sure we'll be scheduling scans.
How is everyone else doing? -
I walked for an hour today with a good friend who is facing a BC scare. It was 65 and sunny! -
I have the cold/chest congestion that is going around + high winds in Seattle which make it unsafe to cycle. So a walk to Nordstrom for something I forgot to buy last week, and then to Pike Place Market for fresh local root veggies and then on to the butcher there for chicken backs. I am making a chicken soup to fight off the cold. Wondering now what to do with all the fresh wild mushrooms I bought. (Bumper crop this year with all the rain.) I am thinking a risotto for mid week.
A reminder that exercise doesn't necessarily mean the gym. I did at least 3 miles of walking with the last mile being hauling something like 20 lb of veggies/chicken back to my place. Plus, I chopped up those amazing carrots etc for the soup. Did I mention the 25-30 mph gusts of wind? Truly a Halloween experience.
Reheating some of the stew I made earlier in the week, and off for an early night. I don't want bronchitis. - Claire -
I had my first weekly taxol infusion this past Wednesday and was wiped out yesterday but today I walked to the library and back (a little under 2 miles total). My pulled muscle is pretty much recovered. -
ginger. Good for you.
Claire. Feel better.
Curve ball. Be gentle with yourself. Knocking on wood that taxol does the trick -
I did a bunch of cleaning and vacuuming yesterday. Lots of upper body work. I am hoping to try for a walk today, feels like my hemoglobin is rising--don't get so winded when I try to walk any distance. Our weather here is gorgeous, although a little cool. Perfect weather to get out. Hope everyone else is having a good day!
