I say yes, you say no, OR People are Strange

Kam - lots of national media on that weird mayor, anything that even sneakily smells of "scandal" sells in the good ole US of A. SO SAD.
Always expected during fight for ACA/Obamacares, folks would use Canada as example of wise approach....but not controversial enuf I think.
Bren - it was in the mid 60's here today, damp, rainy, strange strange weather....supposed to get MUCH colder in next few days. -
More evidence of the damage that no - or substandard - health insurance has wrought here: -
A story worth reading (wishing it would get more attention nationally): -
I think the mayor gets a lot of play here because his story is just so bizarro. Seriously, saying being drunk is your excuse for using cocaine has to be a first.
Sorry, my Canadian friends but I can't stop LMAO at these images:

I always envisioned someone on crack as being skinny. He sure doesn't fit! I don't live in Toronto and to tell you the truth haven't been listening to the news, but what can one expect from a conservative! -
Blue, that's why I figured no Canadians on this thread would be offended! Maybe all the booze offsets the slimming power of crack! -
C4C....very interesting. I think this part of the article you posted is worth reprinting here:
But here’s the thing: Sundby wasn’t shoved into this predicament because the ACA law forced her insurance provider out of the ballgame. UnitedHealthcare, one of the most notorious insurance providers before the ACA was passed, responsible for canceling policies and penalizing customers, decided to voluntarily bail out of the individual insurance game as a matter of corporate strategy. In doing so, it could avoid taking on less healthy customers early in the exchange sign-up process, forcing other insurers to absorb the risk. Clever. And sinister.
UnitedHealthcare Chief Executive Officer Stephen Helmsley said, “The company’s plans reflect its concern that the first wave of newly insured customers under the law may be the costliest.” He continued, “UnitedHealth will watch and see how the exchanges evolve and expects the first enrollees will have ‘a pent-up appetite’ for medical care. We are approaching them with some degree of caution because of that.” A pent-up appetite — you know, to not go broke while attempting to not die.

Yorkie .. looking for the "like" button. Your post cracked me up! This is the first I've been hearing about the Toronto mayor. It's so ridiculous ... can't help but laugh at the guy.
Sunnyflowers .. it was in the mid 60's here today too. The high tomorrow is going to be in the mid 50's. Yikes ... it's going to start getting colder. The wind was blowing like crazy so I couldn't work outside today. Tim actually said he'd help me with the leaves this weekend. Could've knocked me over with a feather ... he HATES yard work!
Hope everyone has a great evening,
Bren -

I've been busy helping my mom move to NC .. and yesterday was the first time in years that my brother, sister, mom and I were at the same place at the same time. Got to spend bro's birthday with him yesterday! He's the "baby" in the family and I'm the oldest.
hugs,
Bren -
Bren, you all are so adorable!! -
As always everyone of you are super wonderful. Pictures, thoughts, sharing articles. LOVE YOU ALL.
I watched the the interview Erin Burnett had with the lady mentioned by C4C.
She said UHC paid 1.2million in claims, the cap was 1million. My DH & I had UHC from the early 70s until 12/31/12. They were always excellent and or many, many years we paid virtually $0 for medical. We were at first upset about the switch and a little leery of the BC/BS that we were being switched to. I heard on "another" thread how awful BC/BS was. However that EVIL union that my husband belonged to made the switch, that is where we are now. We have had no problem, but we are on Medicare now.
I know that woman was treated well by UHC, however I also know that UHC let the coverage go because they want the BIG bucks!!! That poor woman may now HAVE to go to Mayo or MDAnderson now. If you can find the interview,it is on CNN OutFront with Erin Burnett. I dont know how to link or put pics or anything like that.

We heard about the Toronto mayor over here - my goodness he is disgustingly fat!!
-
Ya, he's now a rock star! hahahaha! -
I wish I could to it in my heart to accept Rob Ford for being obese, obtuse, and willfully blind because he shows all of the hall marks of a drug addict, hence a "sick" person entitled to healthcare and compassion from others that might help him. Alas, I fear he will not get that help, because "crackheads" are "others" not him. Not his friends and associates. Until he hits rock bottom, whatever that is for him, I don't think he will get help. He might even die because of his excesses leaving a family that cares deeply for him. (Somebody has to.) So, like many others, who did not vote for him or his ilk (but if Toronto sneezes we all get a cold) I am instead just pissed off. I wish they would all just go away. -
I think he has an alcohol problem rather than being a crack head. -
I think you're right blue. After all he said the crack only happens during his drunken stupors! -
There are lots of high functioning individuals who are substance abusers. Sometimes the choice is made consciously, sometimes it it something done "in a drunken stupor". When it crowds in and defines who you are it does not matter what you are "self medicating" with. He needs help, but he has to ask for it. -
I agree!
-
Also, others need to stop enabling him. I'm not hearing any calls from Toronto for his resignation, or at least demands that he get treatment before continuing on the job. But maybe I've missed something. -
-
hahahahah!

Lol, blue! -

Tifanny Blue Flower -
The last flower is amazing. Does anyone recognise it as a flower one might actually see, somewhere?
The response of his (Ford's) political friends (conservative) is that he needs help and should seek it.
The response of his political foes (everyone else) is fry the f..ker. But recognition that unless he actually does something he can be charged for, including drunk driving, threatening the life of a known person etc. there is no mechanism to remove him. And the constant, he needs help and should seek it. Yes there are many calls for his resignation or at least temporary leave of absence to go into rehab. -

Blue - Tiffany Blue Flower, what an amazing colour. Gotta go google more picture.
Love the post re: the Native American. So perfect.
Thinking of E, and Chickadee, and all our friends - healing, healing, healing.
Agree with Kay, and Blue, re: Toronto Mayor. Sure if our Athena was posting, she'd also make a valuable point about the emotional, psychological problems so often behind drug & alcohol abuse. Add to all that a culture emphasizing narcissism, power, power, and more celebrity as symbols of "success." Yuck. And a public media which LOOKS FOR this kind of stuff to gain attention and headlines to their corporate owned exercises..
Have I missed anyone in my rant? -
My understanding is that the major of Toronto has been a major jerk as far as assisting drug addicts with treatment. I'm attaching a link to a "tough love" interview he gave. So, I don't care too much about what he drinks or smokes.... but hate that he has one standard for himself and another for everyone else. -

Alexandria, isn't that the conservative way? -
