spelling...mmm...have been very lax lately in proofing my posts but i have never been able to get broccohli right...

cowgirl, how many goats do you have? sure do hope the unshaved ones talked to the shaved ones...what a relief from the heat that shaving must be!
shaving making you guys sweat too, i am sure...

fresh cornmeal...WOW...i am going to have to look for that...i would make my own tortillas/tamales (i have the pan, it's easy) if i could get some fresh....

having corn on the cob as a treat tonight...

i think balsamic vinegar is a good one for us...

rose, yeast balance is a precious thing! whole foods has a supplement (refrigerated?) called probiotic immune support, just for that purpose...adding back the yeasties that some medications rob from the body. that is what i use, since yogurt is not my fav, too acidy...

hoping i can cook other fish like the catfish...going to try white fish because that is what my bf likes...he is a scrod/mass. boy...

broc makes a great slaw, my recipe uses bacon bits which means i LOVE it.

cowgirl applauding you on that breakfast burrito...

breakfast for me is usually wheat grass shot, banana and another piece of fruit...

    heat absolutely kills my appetite...

it is amazing, how after a year of being mindful of fat and fiber it comes pretty naturally and i do not feel robbed...

just got to keep the sugar down.

found these words today as i cleaned files...

from pre-bc days and they still work!

Wheat grass - is not my favoite thing!

I had a bottle of probiotics (shopping note: GNC had the very same thing as Whole Foods for less) but they've expired. I actually think the expiration date might make a difference with them, so I need another bottle. I had a stubborn case of flakey eyebrows after surgery, and that finally helped get rid of them.

I'm no good with spelling, and can hardly do an aposthrope " ' " correctly. I was an educational failure before it became popular.

I made my apple/fennel slaw and now I'm going to shove it down the throats of my family the entire week --

Catfish are funny. In the wild they lurk under rocks. I read a story about one in the Kansas river. Fellows would stick their arms under the rocks to grab them.

I think once the goats see how cool the others are they'll wish they had a haircut too. We had a collie dog that would slink around after he got a summer trim. I think she felt naked.

    Anybody have coyotes?

DH read that two have been sited in our neighborhood. (Nobody in our neighborhood talks to one another, they post on the listserv).

We've got our parrot out on the deck, on the screened-in porch, in his cage. DH wonders if coyotes would attack him? I don't think he'd be too tasty, but they wouldn't know that.

I gave up spelling a long time ago, I mean I see my son's IMing! We have 11 goats, 7 show goats. The other four were a bit of an experiment, and then they closed the auction barn. We have tried to sell them but to no avail. I find myself seeing land thinking they would clean it up so nicely for those people! The show goat I shaved yesterday was the wildest ever, baby son almost got gored. I told him BBQ goat was sounding good to me. He is strong and not a bad looking goat but he is sooo wild. Youngest is supposed to show him, not sure how that will happen!

Pro biotic is very important, it helps us digest and fight off viruses. I give my goats pro biotic stuff each month to keep them healthy and eating well.

Tamales are an art, my FIL has taken years to perfect his technique. I just eat his and enjoy, being a cattle breeder his has the best cuts of meat.

Shaved our last goat this morning, I tell you shaving these babies is more workout than you can imagine!

Wheat grass, Laura you are so brave and spunky!

Coyotes will eat any animal they hunt, so yes they will try to get the bird. We had some guineas at the farmed killed one by one by coyotes. They will attack sick and weak animals. I would make sure the cage is sturdy, we have a coyote at the goat farm. I have seen his tracks, and him early in the morning. As long as the fence is there the goats are safe.

DH has a sick cow, Middle son is going to doctor it later today.

Catfish is our fresh fish here, but any white fish would work I would think.

The cage is VERY sturdy. I think Buster can stay on the porch. He's so messy I want him outside while the weather is nice.

I like tamales. My Mom used to get the canned ones and we'd have them for lunch. Later at school (I came home for lunch) I'd taste a little tamale. Ah, the stuff childhood memories are made of!

Tamales are a Christmas treat around here, you have to cook them when it is cold. My kids love it when Grandpa makes tamales, they get this "yippee" look on their face, just like when he cooks chili.

He will go into which cuts are the best, but honestly I could do everything he said and still not make them right! It is a Grandpa thing!

I like goat cheese on my salad, it can even be creamed into a italian dressing to make it creamy.

Rose I am sure Buster will survive. My goats can get scared but so far he hasn't gotten into the pen.

Tomorrow oldest turns 16. I can not believe it, seems like yesterday I was wanting him to walk for his first birthday. Work seems to help him cope with life lately, I am so glad he is gone more. Today we go to take him to lunch with his Granny. Each grandkid gets a lunch with Granny at a restaurant of their choice for their birthday.

what about putting deer screen on busters cage would that help?

i am sure he is going to be okay, hopefully if he did come under peril he would make enough noise to scare off his predator...

milestones...sixteen is a big one...coping with life at sixteen seems to be a monumental task...or it was for me.

love goat cheese in my salad...i am going to pick up some of the yogurt today to try in my smoothie recipe...

i can't seem to leave the iarconditioned house these days...if i do, i am a puddle within 20 minutes and feel gross.

going to suck it up today and get out there and pick up more apps today...

web job is going to take a few weeks to get started.

all in all, ladies, wonderful sisters all...
    life is good.

Buster also bites. He could make short work of a finger.

Sixteen is a good state, finally getting out of that early teen hormonal thing! Does he have his license yet? I had one when I was 14 (farm state) but my boys didn't start driving until they were 17 (urban area). Life really began when I got into that car!

I like that parmesean-like goat cheese that your grate on things also.

As the Yoga teacher said last night - contentment is a choice and it has nothing to do with fufilled desires.

Well I did my best mom inpersonation and gently woke him up, which is hard because it is like waking the dead to get that boy out of bed!

I gave him his breakfast and drove him to work. I think I will surprise him with cupcakes tonight at work. He is working till almost 10 PM every night. So I have to celebrate his BD there I think.

He is not driving yet, TG. He could drive at 16 but he was lazy with the driving studying. DH and I figure the longer he is not driving the longer he will live, and the cheaper it will be. So until he buckles down, he is walked or being driven.

Today is tough, laura. I just thought I would be okay but suddenly I feel soo old and I miss him. Which for me is weird, cause lately it is hard to love him!

Had brocolli, tuna and sauteed mushrooms last night! Yum! Nothing better than a mushroom sauteed!

I'm running my refrigerator down in anticipation of vacation. Frozen vegies are what's left.

The camp we go to is Lutheran. Lutheran and low-fat/high fiber seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum! If you want skim milk you have to get the gal to go get it out of the back -- 2% is the norm.

I'm gonna get a walk and a swim every day, and watch portions. It probably isn't a requirement that you eat the coffee cake at Bible Study either.

Funny how religions that want your body a clean temple serve it high fat food. I am a baptist mostly. The preacher preached about over eating and putting in good food in your temple. Then we dismiss, go to kitchen and eat Sunday dinner with BBQ, Corn with cream cheese and a mountain of desserts! Never understood what the heck I was supposed to do in that kitchen, bless the BBQ?

    When do you leave Rose?

There was an article in the paper some time ago about some churches that were making efforts to reduce fat in their covered dish dinners.

It seems more likely to happen if the pastor has a heart attack.

It is ironic that a church kitchen can be death just waiting for you.

We're off tomorrow. It'll be Asian Chicken (light on the dressing skip the nuts) and apple/walnut salads up the East Coast for me. The main travel thing is to stay AWAY from the cinammon roll places. Around Boston you can hardly go 5 miles without a Dunkin Donuts.

Do covered dishes just automatically come with lots of fat? I can't think of a low fat one, but haven't had too many lately. Just thinking of the asparagus dish I make with cracker crumbs and cheese. It does get rave reviews. I like asparagus plain better--maybe I'm used to leaving off the fat stuff. Do we develop a taste for low-fat?

When I am invited somewhere with a covered dish, I take assorted raw veggies and a dip. Of course, I then gobble away on the high-fat stuff....

I'm like Denise. Let someone else eat the veggies.

I think some of the covered dish thing is that we want everybody to love what we take. Little piggies that we are, we all love creamy high-fat stuff!

I think it also depends on the group. I have a set of friends that include several vegeterians. These days we get together 3-4 times a year. They are not an exceptionally high-fat group, and I think it's because of the vegeterians - who expect you to bring something they can eat. They're old friends, I think that's fair.

Creative things with beans or eggplant (yuck!) will always win praise. Of course when it comes to desserts.... Nobody is a vegan, which really does push you to low fat.

At church if people are vegeterians they aren't advertising it and we fall into the make the richest most tasty thing you know routine. These days we also do a lot of buy ready-to-eat stuff at the grocery store for quick after worship meetings. The salad will be good, but other prepared things or baked goods are off the scale.

So anyway - in preparation for the Lutheran way I'm down to 132 this morning. Hoping to come back and not be over 135. Cross your fingers!

I'm leaving for vacation too on Tuesday, but I hope to do enough biking that I break even on weight. The travel days with no exercise are the worst.(Sometimes hotel pools are big enough for lap swimming. There are a couple of web site I'm going to check that supposedly tell you that.) We usually stop for salad at a fast food place. Thank goodness they now offer salad choices.

Have fun trips, Laura and Rose.

I am kind of leaving too. I am finally having my lat flap on Aug 3, so I will be in the hosp for 2-3 days. I wasn't able to get any weight off (besides the whole big 3 pounds that I did lose)---junk-a-holic that I am, but maybe I can lose a little after surgery since the pain pills mess with my appetite. And I will also be stuck in my house for 2-3 weeks, so won't be around any junk food.
It is a real shame that I have to have surgery to try to lose weight????
But I won't be able to exercise at all, and if my drains are really draining, then I guess that I should not walk.
I hope everyone has a great vacation!

another milestone for the year, my nest is empty except for boyfriend and me...

house on market, job search and address changes...

missed my 3 month onc appt. have to find a new doc or schedule with current onc next time i am up north...

did get bloodwork done last week...

so how are oldest and middle making out on the diet...

    a four letter word...

    like goat...

grose should be back from camp soon...

it is time for me to get serious about my diet again...think i have added a lot of fat grams lately and want to get back to more veggies and not so much sweet fruits, starches and meats...

    Thanks Laura,
I am happy and glad that I had the surgery and feverently praying that all goes well this time.
As far as the diet goes, the surgery seems to have affected my GERD to the point that I can't eat nearly as much as I used to. Good thing, as I have been a total eating machine lately and really have to lose lots of weight.
So when I eat half of a meal, I feel very full. Hope this continues..........

Glad to see you back laura and Denise! Oldest has lost three pounds, I want to ring his neck! They are eating less food and more veggies, just not as healthy as I would like them to be though.

We have sold a bunch of our goats, so now we only have 5. School is quickly upon us, mine start Wednesday. Which is too soon in some ways and not soon enough in other ways.

Bought jeans this last weekend Yikes!

Today we go to the big town and the big store for veggies and fruit! Yippeee! I can hardly wait!

Glad to hear your lat flap went well Denise!

The Vermont cousin (who hales from Ohio) is into farmer's markets. Says that organic eggs ($3@dozen - ouch!) are worth it. I bought a dozen today on my get milk trip to WF. We'll see....

No one in Vermont or New Hampshire seems to have heard of skim milk, or fiber. One porky cousin had the nerve to remak that it was like drinking chalky water. Hey buddy, when you get to be 48 maybe you'll be concerned that you don't fit into your pants!

I sampled some ice cream, VERY creamy. Did you know they can do soft serve in 25 different flavors? Only had one stop at the cinammon roll place!

So I'm back to our nations' capital... Thank goodness we weren't flying.

My son is moving into a townhouse this year. His room was a mess. I'm buying him trash bags and a vacuum cleaner.

    Hi Rose,
Good to see you back as I have missed your posts!
I am doing very well, but sure would like to get rid of these darned drains.....
My daughter just moved from an apt in an old house to a townhouse. When I went over to help her pack, the floor of her very large bedroom was completely covered with clothing, hangers, and Lord knows what.
But she is my lil angel as she helps me with my surgeries and drains.

Hope all goes well for you Denise and that this step is behind you.

We were able to eat cereal in our hotel room most mornings, but had a couple of the "free" cont. breakfasts. I don't know what kind of milk they use, but it's not skim. Once used to skim, it's tough to palate anything else. (Maybe 1%)

Rose, hoping you didn't sample all 25 soft serve flavors!!!

We biked and swam, but looks like I may be up 1 pound. I'm not weighing again until I've been home a week and hope the pound is gone by then!!
