Lysine works best at the very beginning of the outbreak but will work to some extent whenever it is given.  It does not prevent herpes.  It prevents the herpes virus from multiplying by messing with the balance of amino acids in the body. (L-Lysine is an amino acid).  The virus needs a certain balance of L-arginine to multiply normally.  L-Lysine competes with L-Arginine there by interfering with the availability/usability of arginine by the virus. It slows down the replication of the virus giving one's immune system a chance to combat the virus. 

The only thing that prevents an outbreak is the shingles vaccine.  I don't think they have it for animals.    

My suspicions were correct.

Halloween Trick-or-Treaters

Through 2006, Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. ended a few days before Halloween (October 31). Children’s pedestrian deaths are four times higher on Halloween than on any other night of the year. A new law to extend DST to the first Sunday in November took effect in 2007, with the purpose of providing trick-or-treaters more light and therefore more safety from traffic accidents. For decades, candy manufacturers lobbied for a Daylight Saving Time extension to Halloween, as many of the young trick-or-treaters gathering candy are not allowed out after dark, and thus an added hour of light means a big holiday treat for the candy industry. Anecdotally, the 2007 switch may not have had much effect, as it appeared that children simply waited until dark to go trick-or-treating.

YIKES - I take back what I said....who KNEW children's death's were so high on Halloween - around here everyone is WITH an adult and flashlights galore....

Seems like many end up out at dark time here as well. I'm torn for the wonderful fun it was when I was young, however; we were indeed in a country setting with very little traffic over-all and it was actually -- or seemed so, easier to teach caution at any times that you might encounter a car --- daylight, nighttime, icy roads -- whatever. I seem to recall for the most part....all had a healthy respect and pretty much took it upon themselves to use care and caution that the parents had already put there.

Later times and it seems much may have gone by the way-side with lives just being more complicated with both parents often having to work and sometimes it is siblings who end up somewhat responsible for the younger in the family. No easy answers.

I'm ok with time changes for the most part, but then we have grown children and grown grandchildren and live a fairly relaxed existence not having to worry about the care and training of the youngsters.

I did hand out candy the other night where I work and it was fun for a change. No one comes down our dark and fairly rocky country lane. Only three houses back here and one is up for sale and empty. It will stay that way too until they wise up about the price they are asking.

There were some fantastic comedians in my day, GC, Richard Pryor, Foster Brooks, and many others who got a rousing start on the Johnny Carson show -- ??Rich Little and a few females along the way.

Morning Ladies,

It's another chilly morning here. I need to transcribe one short report and then get outside and start mowing and blowing leaves! These huge trees are great in the summer for providing shade, but OMG, in the fall it's a nightmare. Won't be long and it will be time to start shoveling acorns. Last year I shoveled up 12 wheelbarrow loads of them.

Tim left quite early this a.m. and he's on his way to Indiana. It was sure nice having him home on a Sunday for a change.

Enjoyful ... Sure wish you would hear something really soon about the immunotherapy trial. I'm kind of confused ... is this trial the one in Boston? I dread the thought of you having to go through another bone biopsy. The last one was such a nightmare! I hope the pain doctor tomorrow can do something to help you. It makes me so mad that a gal with Stage IV cancer can't get enough pain medicine to get her through the day.

Carrots....read your article and all I can say is WOW. Aside from the onus of the entire piece, I'm wondering just why evangelicals or for that matter anyone think they are in line for SPECIAL blessings. Money......lots of thought about that. It can be a blessing but also a curse. JMHO but the Cruz clan are as likely that it turn out to be a curse. Best to watch out what you put your faith in because I would say they are approaching many of the "political" maneuvers from the wrong direction ( like Romney ) like many others have.
