Notself - I did have both of my cats on Viralys (lysine in a sweet tasting maple gel), especially of late, as Ms Boo would actually eat it and I thought it would stimulate her appetite. I missed a day and wonder if that let the herpes multiply - her immune system is not so good with the steroids per the Vet. When my other cat almost lost her life to herpes, the local Vet ordered famcyclovir through the human pharmacy. Per what he told me, lysine prevents, but does not treat a herpes outbreak. Most cats resolve on their own, but some, that are immune compromised need extra help. I happen to have an extra script for the cyclovir..just waiting for Vet to call me with dosage. If anyone ever has to go there, through some internet searches, the famcyclovir (in the form that can be given to cat) cost me $125 at my local pharm; Costco was selling it for $26 per one person's post.
How sweet you are to think of the birds!! -
Lysine works best at the very beginning of the outbreak but will work to some extent whenever it is given. It does not prevent herpes. It prevents the herpes virus from multiplying by messing with the balance of amino acids in the body. (L-Lysine is an amino acid). The virus needs a certain balance of L-arginine to multiply normally. L-Lysine competes with L-Arginine there by interfering with the availability/usability of arginine by the virus. It slows down the replication of the virus giving one's immune system a chance to combat the virus.
The only thing that prevents an outbreak is the shingles vaccine. I don't think they have it for animals.

Kam - I've been on that roller coaster with a beloved pet, and it's terrible. But you're on the ride, and all you can do in hang on and let it take you where it will. It's not like you can jump off.
Sun - I believe they changed the day to go back to Standard Time from Eastern Daylight so that kids on Halloween will have more daylight hours and thus safer trick or treating. I could be wrong - but it now seems the time changes the Saturday after Halloween. -
My suspicions were correct.
Halloween Trick-or-Treaters
Through 2006, Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. ended a few days before Halloween (October 31). Children’s pedestrian deaths are four times higher on Halloween than on any other night of the year. A new law to extend DST to the first Sunday in November took effect in 2007, with the purpose of providing trick-or-treaters more light and therefore more safety from traffic accidents. For decades, candy manufacturers lobbied for a Daylight Saving Time extension to Halloween, as many of the young trick-or-treaters gathering candy are not allowed out after dark, and thus an added hour of light means a big holiday treat for the candy industry. Anecdotally, the 2007 switch may not have had much effect, as it appeared that children simply waited until dark to go trick-or-treating. -
Holy Moly - the whole country changes time for Halloween? Oh, well, can't fight it - but sure wish we could just STAY on standard time, seems to make so much more sense.
But, then, sense making doesn't seem to be too fashionable these days. Jackie - glad I missed that interview, reading about it was bad enough. Glad he was fired after it aired - as if he'd never said those things before, right.
Meanwhile, MA is still rejoicing in having Elizabeth Warren as our Senator. Pure Joy. I don't think she's going to run for "higher office" but several of the "talking heads" are now chattering about her running if HRC doesn't, but as I'll bet it's 99.999% certain HRC is, the question is moot, for now. Think EW is more valuable where she is that if she had been approved as head of Consumer Protection, tho sure didn't think that at the time. -

oooooooohhhhh...WISTERIA, and wood....tra, la...
where DO you find these - if it isn't on FB, let me know so I can go to those sites ;-)))))
Trees almost bare.... -
YIKES - I take back what I said....who KNEW children's death's were so high on Halloween - around here everyone is WITH an adult and flashlights galore....
will put up with darker mornings now,,,,;-))) Thanks sandy....good to know. -
My 2006, my kids were done trick or treating - or at least trick or treating with me, but I remember seeing a lot of kids just darting across the dark streets ahead of their parents. Even my kids, when they were a little older would run ahead of me to the next house. I could see why children's traffic deaths are up on Halloween. -
Seems like many end up out at dark time here as well. I'm torn for the wonderful fun it was when I was young, however; we were indeed in a country setting with very little traffic over-all and it was actually -- or seemed so, easier to teach caution at any times that you might encounter a car --- daylight, nighttime, icy roads -- whatever. I seem to recall for the most part....all had a healthy respect and pretty much took it upon themselves to use care and caution that the parents had already put there.
Later times and it seems much may have gone by the way-side with lives just being more complicated with both parents often having to work and sometimes it is siblings who end up somewhat responsible for the younger in the family. No easy answers.
I'm ok with time changes for the most part, but then we have grown children and grown grandchildren and live a fairly relaxed existence not having to worry about the care and training of the youngsters.
I did hand out candy the other night where I work and it was fun for a change. No one comes down our dark and fairly rocky country lane. Only three houses back here and one is up for sale and empty. It will stay that way too until they wise up about the price they are asking.
Miss Boo and Cloe......all the hugs and love you can use coming from the woods here in Illinois.

Keep hoping that the dichotomies can be recognized....apparently not.

In all honesty, that website should have been ready to roll, glitch-free, since day 1. Regardless of the circumstances behind the foul-up, the Administration should have been monitoring that sucker all the way through and prepared to delay if necessary. Having said that, I understand the call center works swimmingly.
Happy Monday, everyone! My sister and I start lessons with a world-famous rider today. He can ride, but can he teach? We'll find out. He's also young enough to be my son so I can slap him around if he yells at me.
Waiting to hear from NIH to see if I qualify for an immunotherapy trial. If not, it's another bone biopsy attempt and more chemo for me. I'm off Femara/Tykerb/Afinitor and just taking Aromasin for the moment. It's nice to feel better but I'm freaking out just a bit, especially since I found a tiny, swollen node on the back of my neck. And I'm having shooting skull pain. And I'm out of pain meds!!!
Tomorrow I visit a pain management center so we can get this crap under control. I have no idea what they'll prescribe since I've been through just about everything, but here's hoping.

E - is he at least cute? Glad you're feeling a bit better - have a wonderful day and try not to slap him around too much (don't think you'll have to).

Thinking about you E and thinking strong thoughts about things that will work to get you in the right place.

Going to try this....I've not tried to copy/paste or link anything from this site before.

The picture does not matter, but I so enjoyed the content --- I think I was a George Carlin fan the first time I ever saw him. There were some fantastic comedians in my day, GC, Richard Pryor, Foster Brooks, and many others who got a rousing start on the Johnny Carson show -- ??Rich Little and a few females along the way.

Morning Ladies,
It's another chilly morning here. I need to transcribe one short report and then get outside and start mowing and blowing leaves! These huge trees are great in the summer for providing shade, but OMG, in the fall it's a nightmare. Won't be long and it will be time to start shoveling acorns. Last year I shoveled up 12 wheelbarrow loads of them.
Tim left quite early this a.m. and he's on his way to Indiana. It was sure nice having him home on a Sunday for a change.
Enjoyful ... Sure wish you would hear something really soon about the immunotherapy trial. I'm kind of confused ... is this trial the one in Boston? I dread the thought of you having to go through another bone biopsy. The last one was such a nightmare! I hope the pain doctor tomorrow can do something to help you. It makes me so mad that a gal with Stage IV cancer can't get enough pain medicine to get her through the day.
hugs to all,
Bren -
While it's true that you can't believe EVERYTHING you read, this is worth noting (and very, very scary too): -
(((E))) -- I like to think that the little swollen node on your neck is simply doing what it's supposed to -- capture and kill the bad guys with your B cells and T cells. And B and T do not stand for bacon and tomato! Smooches to you always! -

Carrots....read your article and all I can say is WOW. Aside from the onus of the entire piece, I'm wondering just why evangelicals or for that matter anyone think they are in line for SPECIAL blessings. Money......lots of thought about that. It can be a blessing but also a curse. JMHO but the Cruz clan are as likely that it turn out to be a curse. Best to watch out what you put your faith in because I would say they are approaching many of the "political" maneuvers from the wrong direction ( like Romney ) like many others have.
Jackie -
EEEEEEEEEE - hoping for the VERY BEST for you, NIH trial, good riding lesson, nodule doing what C4C is telling it to do.
Agree with EEEEE about the website, but also know what government contractors can do to so easily foul up ( my best behavior language) anything - the worse the process, the more money the contractor gets, never any consequences for SNAFUS. Procurement process too complex for anyone to control, or monitor, or keep honest!!! Really hoping this is FINALLY addressed by the hits ACA is taking for it.
BLUE - where DO you find these pictures - wonder if the little yellow one on "tip toes" is photoshopped - so wonderful even if it is, tho.
Don't know ( or care) if stuff about Papa Cruz is true, just hope it goes viral.
BOSTON STRONG - we're coming back to the Green Monster, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH. New sculpture of Dr. Sidney Farber and the boy who was the "first" Jimmy of the Jimmy Fund just unveiled at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, very special, thanks to the Red Sox ( since 1943) - they are SO SPECIAL to Boston, to Dana Farber, this year especially, and every year. Guess everyone has heard of David Ortiz speech opening day, when ALL the players were wearing shirts which said BOSTON ( in big read letters) on the front of their jersey's instead of the usual Red Sox. Go Big Popi ;-) -
Sunny, usually FB.

Jackie, it gets worse (or maybe actually better for the Democrats if this keeps up):
