Blue, I saw that article too and was rather amazed at his position. I suspect it will alienate as many Catholics as it will appease.

Jackie, love it!

I've just learned that Rabbit's DH passed away last night -- pancreatic cancer. Oh how we hate, hate, hate f'ing cancer. Rabbit, our thoughts are with you at this very sad time, and I'm sure we all want to send you many cyber-hugs.
-
Rabbit, so sorry to hear of your loss. Sending thoughts of peace and comfort to you and your family.

My heart goes out to Rabbit and her dear husband. I am so very sorry for her loss.

-
So, so sorry for your loss, Wabbit.
-
Rabbit ... I couldn't stop thinking about you last night. This all happened so fast. It's hard to grasp it all. When my dad was diagnosed with esophageal cancer he only had six weeks left with us. We were stunned ... you never expect to lose someone you love. I know you have those two wonderful dogs and I hope they can comfort you right now. It's good that you have your loving family and friends close by.
I am so very sorry you lost your husband. I hate cancer so much for what it takes from us. We're here for you whenever you need us.
love,
Bren

Wabbit, don't know what to say. I'm so sorry.

Rabbit, joining all in sending you warm hugs, and thinking of you in the hope that knowing you are being held in the arms of so many who UNDERSTAND the depth of your personal loss, no words can explain, and we are all with you in the place where you are, and will be....so, so, so hard...what ever words can help, we are here for you.
-
I am so sorry for your loss..... Kay

Just a dim echo here of all the thoughts being carried forward to you Wabbit. It is a sorrowful time, even in partial expectation, you are never ready and the pain can be great. I am glad to be here for you to lean on in any way. Gathering you and your family in my heart for prayers of understanding and healing when the time is right.
Hugs
Jackie

{{{Wabbit}}} my heart goes out to you. You've had so little time to deal with your husband's diagnosis. I hope your family and friends surround you with love and support, but your other family, here, is here to listen and be supportive too. xxo

Just a reminder ... I've got Rabbit's address if anyone wants to send a card.

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2013/09/republicans-we-were-too-nice-to-the-hungry.html
Just some of what the article contains:
CNN reported last night that Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas, a Republican supporter of the bill, received a daily meal allowance of $127.41, or 91 times the average daily food-stamp benefit. Lucas is also notable as a recipient of the agriculture subsidies his committee doles out: He and his wife have collected more than $40,000 worth."
Boggles the mind - seriously, what planet do these people come from, and what are they hoping to do here?
-
-
Sun...it is a mind boggler. I guess as well, I also think....how many of those people walk around thinking their righteous thoughts, and nary a thought about someone with hungry children....because their children are not. Well, they aren't right now anyway, but times change and so do people. Who knows how many people might change in 2014. Ethical and moral...........most of those people haven't a clue. Not my kind of people.
Jackie
boggler isn't a word, but it fit.
-
Sunflower ... it truly does boggle the mind. O.M.G. How many families would feel so grateful to have $127 every day for food. I don't know the last time anyone checked the food stamp website for their state ... but in Virginia it's pennies a day. I was shocked when I read it and saw it was about $90 a month for a single person earning less than $8-10,000 a year. That's not even minimum wage! Shame on those congressmen who voted a FOUR BILLION DOLLAR reduction in food stamp benefits.
hugs,
Bren

Well Mr. Lucas.....what might you say to Mr. Griggs who carried you till he was disabled. Perhaps you don't know how to be grateful for those who HELP you whether you deserve it or not.
