I read a book a day almost. Steve wanted to buy me a kindle but I said no. I've figured out why I prefer paper books - you can browse them at the library - pick them up, read the synopsis and choose. How could you do that with a Kindle? My study is full of books of favourite authors I collect. They are needing sorting, the bookcases are overflowing again.
Had good news at work this week, got a payrise and a big bonus.

It has always been hard for me to wrap my head around how anyone can see things that just aren't there.....well, they deny what IS there and make up the rest. Why couldn't I figure that out. I'd try it myself but I'm so steeped in reality I know I could not make it work.

Hi Friends,
Gorgeous weather here again today. It already feels like fall. The chestnut pods are dropping like crazy and keeping me busy raking and shoveling them over the fence!
I used to read a book every two days. Only hardbacks. My mom, sis and I would all share our books. For some unknown reason, I haven't read a book in a very long time. I'd rather spend my time coloring these days.
Blue ... Philip is adorable. Can't believe how fast he's growing! Doesn't George have a birthday soon? Is he going to be two or three? Time is just flying by.
Jackie ... Cute picture of the Prez and Michelle. I wish Tim and I could get a portrait done sometime. Maybe my SIL will take some for us ... she's a professional photographer.
Hope everyone is enjoying the day,
hugs,
Bren

Blue - he is SO big - and gorgeous!
Did you MAKE that beautiful horse sculpture? WOW, I used to do hand built clay years ago, don't know if my hands are strong enough now.
Bren, your weather is extending up to the northeast - just two fabulous days, warm sun, light breeze, and no frost tonight. FULL MOON. The harvest moon, eveybody go out & look - at rising, it looks HUGE, closest in orbit to earth. Seems strange to have daylight saving time ending so late in the year, so dark in the morning. Leaves are already turning here, seems early.
-
Yes, I agree, Philip is gorgeous! Bren, George will be 5 this weekend...he wanted a popcorn maker for his B/D. I was babysitting him one day and brought my popcorn maker and a MJ CD. We made popcorn and danced to MJ. Had such a good time, so I'm getting him one of his very own. The MJ CD, well that's mine! hehehehe!
Sunny, I didn't shape that one, but I did "clean" it and painted it and then put the gloss on it (it is quite the procedure). Known as "ceramics". This is the only piece I kept, but I did do many pieces.
I used to restore antiques, knit, crochet, sew. My creative centre was always on high alert. PD is the worst thing that could ever happen to me. Went from typing 100 wpm to typing with one finger which is very frustrating!
So even though a huge chunk of my life has changed, I'm thankful to still be here because life is great and I'm expecting my third grandchild (Josie, this time) and my son has proposed to his G/F, so hopefully more grandchildren in my future!
-
Oh, and I would gobble up books faster than I could buy them. Now I can't read a newspaper article without losing focus.

Hi ladies - it's been fast and furious around here lately. A project I've been dogging at work has finally taken off. Our new house is still being worked on. The tile is laid - still must be grouted. The new hardwood - hubby finally decided on hickory instead of bamboo, as we both worry about what China puts into their exports, and the hickory is from the US. (And we couldn't find any bamboo that didn't come from China that was what we wanted). Anyway, the hickory will be delivered on Saturday and then needs to acclimate in the house for awhile (can't remember how long, as I simply cannot remember much of anything anymore
). Anyway, after the acclimation period it will be installed - as soon as we can find someone to install it. Hubby is happy with the choice, as he got 3/4" thick real boards that can be refinished if need be in the future - though since we have no animals nor children at home, the probability that it will need refinishing in our lifetime is pretty much small to none....Got all signed up for retirement - though I haven't yet told my bosses. I'm trying to figure out the best way to do that. I need to meet with two different manager "sets" and don't want my immediate bosses to get to the upper bosses before I can have my own discussion with them. But it would be impolite (and poor politics) to meet with the upper ones prior to the more immediate ones... problems, problems.... (why I care is that even though I'm retiring, I decided to offer my soul up for contract work for awhile, so would like to get a good recommendation if necessary)
Meanwhile, the townhouse we are living in (renting) has gone on the market, so we also need to keep it rather spick and span and be available for showings. Last night the last interested party finally left at 8 PM, so we had a VERY late dinner (which was take-out Thai, as I also couldn't mess up the kitchen prior to them coming!) I hope someone decides to buy it very soon so that I/we can focus our energy on our new house, not someone elses rental.
Tonight I have to work late, so dinner will be late again - and I've no clue what it will be - maybe take out Mexican!

Blue - I understand some of your frustration! I've always had a ton of hobbies and usually had at least one and usually more in the mix. Lately I don't have the energy to create anything, and I miss it - which is one of the gazillion reasons why I want to retire. Of course, once I retire we're going to be so broke that most of my hobbies will have to go by the wayside anyway... I did ceramics for awhile back in my twenties, but haven't picked it up since then. It's a lot of work to make the finished product come out as wonderful as that horse of yours.

You have such an eye for beauty, Blue.

Thank you GG! I'm off to rest my back. See you all tomorrow.

Am I the only one who is surprised at the small amount of noise there was about gun control after the massacre in DC? Now I will, in the interest of accuracy add that I do and always have owned guns. I like to shoot, and do not want the US to become a non-gun country. However, I am in favor of severely limiting the number of shots that can be fired from a gun before reloading (8 seems more than adequate to me), and I'd rather that people who have mental disorders and/or have felony convictions for violent crime in at least the last 10 years not be permitted to own firearms.
I don't believe that guns caused the massacres that have occurred. In all fairness, most of them have occurred because of mental health issues that are not adequately addressed. Some things need to change in the way mental health is addressed in this country. Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone had health care that included a mental health coverage? But no, the same people who say "It's not guns that kill people" don't want health coverage for all.
Oh... I forgot, Benghazi!!!

2 Concealed Carry Holders Kill Each Other In Road Rage Incident
The Huffington Post | By Hunter Stuart
Posted: 09/19/2013 3:57 pm EDT
Two men are dead after pulling guns on each other during a road rage incident on Wednesday night.
Police said the dispute began when one car was tailgating another in the Michigan town of Ionia, population 11,400.
Both drivers pulled into the parking lot of a local car wash and stepped out of their vehicles, according to ABC affiliate WZZM-TV. Witnesses said the tailgating driver fired first, and the other driver returned fire.
When ambulances arrived, the men -- Ionia residents James Pullam, 43, and Robert Taylor, 56 -- were given medical care and transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead, Detroit News reported.
Both men fired handguns and had valid licenses to carry concealed weapons, according to authorities, Detroit News said.
In Michigan, anyone over the age of 21 can be issued a concealed carry permit as long as they take a short gun safety class and meet a list of eligibility requirements, which include no felony convictions or mental illness diagnoses.
If Pullam and Taylor didn't have concealed carry permits, they would have been required by law to keep their firearms stored in special cases in the trunks of their cars.

So, according to the NRA, you need a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun. Hmmmm ... So which of these guys was the good guy? Or was there a lack of good guys on the scene and they each needed a good guy with a gun to kill the other guy and stop him from shooting them. Or .... Oh, it is too confusing ... BENGHAZI!! There, that's easier, isn't it?
GG, there was a substantial meeting in DC today of gun control advocates- survivors of mass shooting events and families of those killed in gun violence. They were going to testify on the Hill but the hearing was cancelled. They held a rally and meetings and read the names of the 9,000+ people who have been killed by guns in the United States since Sandy Hook. Nine thousand plus people dead of gun violence, accidents and suicide. -
Blue, even though my Dad had PD for the last few years of his life, I never thought about all the things a person might not be able to do . I do think it is fantastic that you can express much gratitude for your life, even though you are living with many losses. It is the things we still have --- like enjoying a grandson, popcorn and dancing to Michael Jackson. A picture popped into my head and I could almost feel the satisfaction of the joy you and he were creating together. There will always be priceless things in this world.
GG is right too. You do have anunsually good eye for beauty. I'm sure glad you share it t
GG....I bet all of us are gnashing our teeth about the latest gun deaths. I know I have been. I was never in favor of taking guns away from people, but I do wonder if the NRA keeps calling the shots and inflaming people to the point that something realistic ( baning lg. magazines, etc. ) isn't done, that we might one day get there.
And leaving you with this little thing I found about books.

Jackie's pics reminded me of a question I had - saw Greta S. as a "talking head" on one of the Sunday am shows, first time I've seen her, and wondered what ailment she has, talks so strangely out of the side of her mouth, there must be some problem. Unusual to have a person with such a public by choice profile, look strange when she speaks.
Food Stamps cut to 3,500,000 people. Does the USA still pay farmer to leave fields fallow? To NOT plant? But can't afford to help 3,500,000 hungry people buy food. Can this be true?
Enjoyful. I hope we can still be friends, I was cheering for the Red Sox ( Dana Farber's Jimmy Fund especially.)

I am so TIRED of the GOP and their games, the tons of money to have the useless votes to get rid of Obamacare and the possibility of seeing the government shut down. Everyone will get hurt..........still, maybe it is something that has to happen. If we want to start pushing back the T.Party ( thanks all you GOP'ers who wanted to swell your ranks by inviting them in --- are you happy now ) so in the mean-time Mr. President continue to tell those folks what my dad would............wish in one hand, do somerhing else we won't name in the other, and see which fills up the fastest. Keep Obamacare un-touched.

Found this joke in my email. Hope it doesn't take up too much room here.
While walking down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a truck and dies. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance. ‘Welcome to heaven,' says St. Peter. 'Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you. ‘No problem, just let me in,' says the man. ‘Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity. ‘Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,' says the senator. ‘I’m sorry, but we have our rules. ‘And with that, St.Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him. Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne. Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly & nice guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator raises...The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him. ‘Now it's time to visit heaven. ‘So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns. ‘Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity. ‘The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: 'Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell. ‘So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in bags as more trash falls from above. The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder. 'I don't understand,' stammers the senator. 'Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened? ‘The devil looks at him, smiles and says, 'Yesterday we were campaigning....Today you voted.'
