I say yes, you say no, OR People are Strange

I know this is off topic but I'd like your input please. The Portland Zoo has new lion cubs, sex not determined yet. If there is a female, would it be weird, disrespectful to ask them to consider naming her Athena? I didn't know her as long as most of you but she did touch my heart. Thank you.

it is my considered opinion that this discussion board is diminished when Narsty People are permitted to posted their scurrilous diatribes, attacking a person's character rather than by answering the contentions made by that person. If RetiredLibby violated any rule of BCO that does not have an equal and compelling rule preventing these ad hominem attacks, then perhaps BCO should cease to host discussion groups.
RetiredLibby is not bashful about showing herself to be erudite. To lose her and her ilk as a contributor to the website, while permitting a few posters from that other political, and social point of view, to continue is to give them credence. When she answered their attack on an esteemed member of this discussion group she was only doing what was in fact the Moderators job. Turning the other cheek only works if the persons involved in a discussion/dispute actually RESPECT each other. Kay

WOW - what a deliciously wonderful idea - get us the #### and we'll call to join you in suggesting the name. Even maybe raise the money to get them an "acacia tree" - tho our Athena wouldn't like "zoo" - I still love it. Imagine, we could then send her Prada for her paws.
RETIREDLIBBY - we're all gonna leave if you don't come back.....
-
what KAY said.
ETA: Libby DID call the nasty poster a troll, cuz that person then PM'd her and wrote:"I am not a troll, I am a libertarian." then Libby blocked her.
Another my bad....sorry I wasn't here to defend OUR JACKIE. Wudda if I was here....thanks Blue, as I don't know the nasty attacker's screenname, I couldn't block, so now I don't have to. YEAH BLUE...what kinda turtle? DId you know that most turtles like to eat earthworms. They do.
and still
WHAT KAY SAID.

Julianna, that is a LOVELY idea! To go along with your suggestion, you might tell the Zoo our Athena's story, and how much she loved and respected lions. Yes, a truly lovely idea, and one that would be very dear to her. And even though she much preferred lions to roam free, she certainly couldn't resist dear sweet lion cubs wherever they are.
-
Julianna - do it!!! That would be the absolute best thing to do for Athena.
I missed the ruckus, but it does sound a bit mean mods - we want RL back!!!!
-
I absolutely love the idea Julianna!
-
I would be happy to contribute to the Naming fund. Such a lovely idea!
-
Juliaanna - love love love that idea. Funny, I just sent off my bff back to Portland a few hours ago. Had a lovely visit for a week, so just barely catching up with the goings on here. RL should be reinstated asap.
-
Pinktober is just around the bend. But the corporate folks are way ahead of us.
-
Julianna ... what a wonderful idea. I'm sure Pamela's family woud be so happy to hear a lion cub was named after her. I sure hope it works out!
Chickadee ... oh my god. Is that a .38 special? I've seen the pink-handled handguns before. A couple of years ago I was in a store and they asked me if I wanted to buy a CD ... they told me that a portion would go to breast cancer. I asked how much of the $10 would actually go to breast cancer research ... only 10 cents. I passed on the CD. I hate Pinktober.
hugs,
Bren

I sent an email to the zoo to ask how we could promote the name Athena for one of the cubs. Surely one of them is female. Kay

The gun ad made me sad 😤. No not sad. Really pissed. I really really hate Pink October.

Thanks for your words of support. I'll be drafting a letter to the zoo tonight

Thank you mods. I know you have a difficult job......because I know I couldn't do it...not for a day. We all so appreciate that you were able to see how much RL means to us, and to also understand that it happened to have been her, but we all want to enjoy our thread here in peace and any one of us could have been the one to demand we not be invaded by someone we didn't know who certainly was not invited. We did not derserve that nor a suspension for one of us standing up for all of us.
Thanks again. Your care and concern is noted and appreciated.
Jackie
