I get you.
But of course the real issue is his mental illness and how society pushes it aside, ignores it, has no real solution for it. Except to repeat the mantra that it was "evil" that occurred. For gods sake, he went to the VA and asked for help only weeks before.
Mental illness is no more "evil" than breast cancer, but we still as a society need to demonize it that way because we don't understand a broken, damaged brain. Especially one prone to violent attacks. -
Mental illness should not be demonized - but people with mental illness should not have guns. Treat people who have this illness with medicine and compassion - and no guns.
Or maybe we should consider rewriting the second amendment. WTF, European countries don't have guns like we do - and they do just fine without them.
-
True, but though we may recognize someone is not behaving normally, or their family knows something is terribly wrong, if there is no official record for a gun business to check then there is no way to stop the purchase.
And if families that have guns don't lock them up in gun lockers and secure the key then their family member who is unstable can go on a rampage.
It makes me heartsick and frustrated. -
Maybe we just don't need that many guns. I am a gun owner, but i'd give mine up.

Hello
I do not come here as much as I want anymore life keeps throwing things at me but I am not a quitter. Right now I am sick. This too shall pass. I miss you women and am proud to be able to post here with you. I will tryto be on BCO more because it is such a good site.
-
Hugs, Rosemary. I hope you feel better soon.

Shit, I missed all the fun! Sockpuppets maybe??? I'm pretty sure I know the answer, as it was proudly stated elsewhere. It's all popeye's fault, as I was getting him all settled in his new tank. Popeye, you ask? My new turtle!
-
Things move so fast on this thread! Jackie, yorkies are truly unique creatures. 2 lbs, wow! That's tiny. My baby is a whopping 9.5 lbs, a giant! She's almost 16 but still totally rules the roost, sigh. Don't get me started on that. She'll probably need some medication to calm her down.
All I can say about the brouhaha yesterday is that the instigator personifies the definition of unhinged!

Chicky, sounds like you have a fun and fascinating weekend ahead of you. Enjoy!
I have no adequate words for the outrage of handing a clearly psychotic individual assault rifles and giving him security clearance to enter military facilities. This country has officially gone insane.
-
Maybe not unhinged, but DRUNK?????
-
Mods, could you please let us know why HL has been banned. From what I've been told, she only reported a post, which needed to be reported and her post that stated such was then reported by the "community". Have the rules changed because I don't see any violations here!
-
Blue, that could be the case too!

Morning Friends,
Sure hope the mods can get this straightened out and get Libby back on the forum. I didn't see her note yesterday, but it seems she was only posting about reporting someone else's comment.
I've been a little stressed lately ... my sis was recently diagnosed with a cerebral aneurysm. It's still small, about 3 mm, but she is not a candidate for the coil procedure to clip it, as her arteries don't run in a straight line. The report said they were "tortuous." So we are in the wait and watch mode. She'll have another MRI/MRA in six months. She's having a hard time finding her "new normal," something we can all relate to. Please keep KK in your thoughts. The doctors have her on a couple of different medications and she's not adjusting to them well. She told me the other day she just wants her old self back. And for the first time ever, someone in my family actually said they now know what it must be like to worry if your cancer is going to come back. I love her more than anything, and I'm so afraid the aneurysm might rupture.
Rabbit ... You've been in my thoughts a lot. I can't even imagine how hard this is for you. Sending you and your hubby lots of love.
Rosemary ... Hope you're feeling better soon. Don't want you to end up in the hospital.
Alyson ... How's your vacation going? Hope you get to see lots of our Canadian friends this week!
Guess I better get dressed and walk the dogs. My work has been slow this month ... I'm freakin' out about it. Will work on getting more marketing materials out today.
hugs,
Bren

(((Bren))) Thoughts and prayers for your dear sister.

Just .checking in. I missed all the drama .... Hope we get HL back soon!! Here for chemo (new stuff is cmf) and then off tomorrow to the finger lakes region of New York for a wine trip. Will check in when I can. Alexandria, hope dad improves and has some good quality time with you. Chick, have a great time at the conference. Anne, glad to hear from you and you are okay. The rest of you sweet friends, have a good week.
-
Sheesh - I don't check for a day and there's DRAMA!!! Hope the mods get things straightened out.
Chick - thanks for posting the correct info about the shooting. I always think that having accurate information is a really good thing!!
Rosemary - do whatever you need to do to get well.
I probably won't be on a whole lot this week. Work has to take priority for awhile now. Though we're meeting with the retirement office this afternoon, so it's starting to feel real. I think I will offer to finish out the project I'm on as I hate to leave them in the lurch. We'll see, though. Maybe they'll piss me off again....

-
Glenna, have a lovely time in the Finger Lakes! Brings to mind the SNL skit and its take-off on Lawrence Welk and the sister singers, esp. the one with the teeny tiny roaming fingers (as played by Kristin Wiig). Oh, and if the upper NYS wine is not to your liking, there's some really, really good stuff over here!
Retired Libby is in limbo right now, trying to figure out if she broke any rules, although she's quite sure she did not. I also missed the kerfuffle, but I understand that a drive-by decided to insult our Illinois Lady and RL took exception to it. Personal insults are not allowed here, and for good reason. So why has RL been banned for doing something that perhaps the Mods should have done? Just wondering, is all.
It was so nice to meet Alyson last week (thanks again BCO!) and I understand she's having a jolly time with daughter and family, and also meeting more Ontario friends.
-
Oh Bren....so sorry to hear about your sister. I sure hope maybe one of those meds ( hope you'd know which one ) might kick in and help with the situation she is in. Prayers much hope and lots of healing mental pictures. I can see that the shoe drop waiting for things to perhaps change for the better are tortuous too. I hope she and you as well can find a spot that starts to feel a bit more live-able. I can see that it is a really un-enviable position....you are afraid to hope too much for fear of dissapointment and afraid if you don't hope enough it could intefere with some sturdy confidence for things to get better. Sigh !!!!
Rosemary......way to go. what is it that is said....something to the effect I think of winners never quit, and quitters never win.........so hats off to you. You have drive and determination. A great spirit and attitude. Lots of healing thoughts to you as well.
I too hope the mods will rethink the situation with RL. I was not here when the whole thing came down and it has left me feeling badly that she is chastised for doing something that surely needed doing. This 'being', drunk, unhinged or whatever she was, clearly needed handling and RL took the reins on my behalf. So mods, I hope you will think things over. I think RL would have done it...no matter who was being roughed up, but I do feel a grave sense of responsibility. You would lighten a lot of hearts.
Yorkie....its hard to ignore love isn't it!!!! Little Smidgen definitely has my heart.
I'll see you all later.
Jackie

Jackie, yes, my little yorkshire terrorist is impossible not to love! I'm her nurse now, due to hypothyroidism, a leg wound that stubbornly wouldn't heal (now has, thank goodness), and, ah hem, those irksome behaviors. Today she's been great though!
-
Rosemary - hope things get better for you.
Rabbitt - prayers, thinking of you and wishing you find the strength to deal with such an impossible to put a word to situation, please let everyone nurture you during this time too.
Whatever I missed, I'm glad I missed it, EXCEPT it seems hideous to have Libby be punished for speaking the truth about what she was doing. If I had been there, I WOULD BE DEFENDING OUR JACKIE TOO - and why isn't the "community" who is "so offended" observing the much quoted Moderator request: "Don't like, don't read."
How strange to think of someone wanting to read something that she knows will upset her? What a waste of time, and to criticize, if that was it, what she reads that she doesn't like when she has been asked so many times by such patient people who are trying to Moderate: "Don't like, Don't read."
PLEASE do NOT attack a part of a community we all love, nuture, support, care for, and stop trying to cause another part of that community to get banned by defending another regular participant in community you are attacking.
Moderators, please explain why retiredlibby is not able to post. I thought if someone reported a post, that person was supposed to be identified as the person doing the reporting. Who is "the community" removing a post by retiredlibby?
-
Here's some good news from the CBO that needs to be shared with my U.S. pals here:

-
But, but, but what about BENGHAZI???
-
-
Message from GOP: I guess this means that everybody's 401k/b is going to soar and Americans will be healthier, wealthier and happier under Obama. NOOOOOOOOO

-
Does anybody know what RULE the Moderators are saying RetiredLibby violated? According to email communications updating me, she SAID she was reporting a post, defended Jackie, ETA: thanks to yorkiemom.
Please, if anyone knows what RULE RetiredLibby violated, would you let me know? Thanks...
Does it suprise anybody else, when a "new" poster to this website somehow finds a thread which is not on the active list, and way, w-a-a-a-y down on the All Topics list, reads and DOES NOT LIKE WHAT SHE READS and has enough people aware of this post she has posted as a "new" person to the website, to provoke a response and "community" removing the response to that "new" poster? Whew...what a lot of wasted time, just to thry to annoy people, who eould very VERY quickly put a BLOCK on that poster after reading the stuff....waste of time, waste of time, sad, sad, sad....
I can hear our Lioness roaring a laugh for us all

-
Lies, lies, all lies.
Now the driver -byers don't have to come over here and post their nasties!!! The Un-Welcome sign is up for you!
-
I read posts from the drive-byer and RL. RL did NOT call drive-byer a troll, for what it's worth.
-
No rules broken as far as I can see. To Blah or not to blah...that is the question! And sometimes daisies grow after months of hibernation and get drunk with the sunshine!
Stuff and nonsense!
Whoever that poster was is no longer a member and all her posts are gone, so the Mods did do one thing right!
-
Now they should unban RL!
