Question about Zenni: My optometrist said I couldn't/shouldn't use them because I have a strong prescription and astigmatism in one eye. So that's not true??? I do get special lenses so they aren't coke-bottle thick, but I'm tired of losing $500 glasses.

Ok, so now that I am giving up eye liner, what sort of mascara is best? (giving up eyeliner because it smudges every single day)...I am interested in waterproof/smudge proof. I have some Physicians Formula and I like it because it is "safer" but it rubs all off.

Violet, do you worry about side effects or the issue that this is a drug? My Mom had to use it medicinally for glaucoma and I guess I worry iof I use it for no medical reason, it won't work if I ever need it for a medical reason. And it never made mom's lashes grow. But it was supposed to.

    Crystal,

Naw...I don't worry about it. You have to use the LASHURIOUS TWICE a day religiously for 3-4 weeks before ya really start to notice...and it only works if you keep/continually using it after u get your lashes long enough/how u like them...maybe once a day after that point.

But like I said, I had to STOP for a long while cuz my got too LONG!

I'M just now using it again...

Ok so I am posting here and on the retail therapy thread. Do any of you ladies have gel nails? I just finished my chemo 8 weeks ago and am almost finished rads. I really miss my gel nails. My nails are currently very short and kind of wrecked because of the chemo. Do you think it is a good idea to have gel nails put on right now or should I wait?

    WaveWhisperer -

I also have a VERY strong prescription, with astigmatism in both eyes. I also wear bifocals.

I always have my optometrist check out my Zenni glasses after they arrive, and he always says they match his professional prescription perfectly.

The only difference was that this last time, instead of paying $500 or more for one pair of glasses, I got FOUR PAIRS for $120.

That included a couple of the more expensive frames, anti-glare coating on all of them, a pair of dark-tinted sunglasses, and lined bifocals on all of them.

Blessings, thank you for the info!!! Now I'm just scared to ask my optometrist for my scrip, because he will know what I'm doing and I've always bought my glasses from his shop. Is that crazy????

Wave, just tell him you want it for your records. He may know what you're doing but he has to give it to you. Mine got a little pissy and wouldn't mail it to me (I live an hour away) and insisted I had to come in and pick it up. Now I go to an ophthalmologist that doesn't sell glasses. Problem solved.

crystalphm, I have the same issue that you do with eye liner smudging or running as the day goes on.  I want something that takes little time to apply, once in the morning and lasts all day.  I tried the Physician's Formula 2-1 lash boosting eyeliner + serum. It is a liquid in a pen type applicator. It works good as eyeliner and stays put all day (~10.00 @ CVS).  Tarte also has a soft pencil liner that stays on well, but the problem I have with it is getting it to sharpen because it is so soft (I bought a "soft-pencil-sharpener" and it helps (~20.00 @ Sephora).

Does anyone know what kind of safety rating the "Sally's Beauty Supply" liquid eye liner has?  I used it pre-bc and liked it and it stayed well without smudging.  Haven't bought it since dx... (less than 10 bucks).

I have looked at the Tarte eye-liner in the "pot" that you apply with a tiny brush, but the girls working at the store (Ulta & Sephora) always steer me away from it.  Have any of you used it? Do you like it? I do know one lady who used it and said it worked good, but if you don't use it regularly, it dries out and becomes unusable...so I asked about that last time I looked at it at the store and she told me to store it upside down and it would stay good longer.

WaveWhisperer you paid for the exam plus you have the right to your records. But you can always tell him you are getting a 2nd cheaper pair online.

WaveWhisperer - the ladies are right. You paid for that exam, the prescription is yours. Make sure he writes the PD on it (Pupillary Distance).

But I was kind of a weenie the first time, too. Embarassed I just said I was going on vacation and needed to have all my records with me in case I lost my glasses. Now Kaiser just prints them up automatically right after you get your exam.

I am like this too, weenie about asking for my prescription. I wonder why we are like this? We are cancer warriors and yet I cringe to ask the eye doctor for the prescription.

Well, here is my survival tip. I call 2 weeks later and ask them to out it in the mail, or I will drive by and get it, then only the receptionist gets to look at me with disdain :-)

RE: the missing PD number on your prescription - Zenni has a downloadable ruler that you can use to measure your own Pupillary Distance.

    Anyone got any scar tips.

Been massaging my scars more. Using that oil stuff that comes in little bottle with orange top. Damnyou chemo brain. When i went to vinnie for tats he recommended i massage daily ten min with coco butter. Had been using coconut oil. I think they look okay.

I had a fight years ago with a doc over my contacts prescription and she finally gave it to me but I dropped her. My current doc I love and want to do everything to keep his business afloat but in the end I have to keep my family finances afloat. I figure I pay for the eye exam but it doesn't mean I have to get the rest there. I simply state I need to get a copy of my prescription because I can get them cheaper elsewhere. They never give me any hassle.

    Hi Iago!!!!

When I DID change locations to get glasses, I had the new place call the doctor for the prescription themselves...hehehehe. BUT, when I picked up the new glasses, the prescription was WRONG!!! Yep!!! The new place had to deal with the doctor to get the REAL script!!!!!  The eye doctors glasses were just TOO expensive!

I don't know about other states but I'm pretty sure in Texas you are legally entitled to your prescription.

I still have not been brave enough to try Zenni. I would have to find what place I stashed my prescription but that's another story. I'm not even sure if Visionworks (old Eyemasters) can adjust glasses very well. I was very spoiled by my optometrist. Texas used to have an old law like 30 years ago that optometrist and eyeglass dispensing had to be separate or at least have separate entrances.

LOL - DH asked me the other day if shoe places like Thom McAn still existed. You can tell he never shops except online or by way of me.

FL warrior, the Physicians formula 2 - serum eyeliner is so far working!! 4 hours now, and all other eye liners have been all over by 4 hours. And it was so easy to apply!

Thanks so much for telling me about this...I have been searching for a very long time, but the good news is my daughter has about 10 different brands of eyeliner to use because they failed me the first time.

Oh yes, I sure do bet eye places get their glasses from China, why else would it take 15 to 18 days for me to get glasses made?

crystalphm, I am glad you are having the same good results with PF eye liner! It took me while to find it.  Lots of trial and error just like you have experienced. I am sure your DD is loving her new broad choice of eye liner!!!

fredntan I found ScarAway silicone strips worked the best on scars. I bought it at my local Walgreens. It really helps with softening and flattening too.

I'm interested in the PF eyeliner. I looked on Amazon and there are so many different ones, I'm not sure which to buy. Is serum a separate product or included in the eyeliner? Some indicate only black, and I usually don't wear black eyeliner, because it's too harsh...More info, please.

And lago, I'm going to look for ScarAway. I have a raised red scar on my chest from a Mohs surgery for a skin cancer, and I'm not happy with it at all. It shows with many tops (almost looks like a port scar).

Ladies, thanks for all the good suggestions. I am dealing with scraggly eyebrows and eyelashes. I did find a wonderful universal brow pencil at billiondollarbrows.com. It comes with a brow buddy tool that is foolproof. I was skeptical that a brow pencil could be universal, but now I am convinced. It really helps to have natural looking eyebrows.

lago, have my first patch on! How long did you use the product? It says it might take up to 6 months for old scars, and instructions talk about washing both sides every day and drying it. Did you follow directions to a "T"?

About the physicians Formula, mine came 2 in one pack.

"Eye booster 2 in one lash boosting eyeliner and serum. 24 hour wear."

That is what the package says.

WaveWhisperer  No but I did wash them every day. I think I did it for 2 months. I've been thinking of doing it again but my scars are still getting lighter on their own… but slowly. See how it goes.
