I don't know how you do all you do!! You must truly be motivated. What's the puffiness about?

I did notice you were up at 4:30 a.m. the other morning!!

I think the puffiness is from too many carbs. I'm tuning my mix to get 50g or protein a day, which I may have been getting anyway, to see if that helps.

I have a suspicion that tamoxifen might be implicated as well.

Do you have a scale to measure grams?

I wouldn't mind have a kitchen scale, but I don't right now. I'll add that to my list of wants next to a good oven thermometer. The nutrition labels tell you how many grams are in portions.

I really like the www.calorie-count.com site. It gives nutritional info for lots of things, and several different quanitites - chicken thigh, thigh w/o skin, 1 c. chicken meat....

I knida go by that deck of cards comparison for meat. Last weekend for our company I was looking at some wonderful pork chops, then I realized how big each one was--about twice that size! So I got a different cut which came much closer to the deck. Got a couple of extra for those with big appetites, but I could stick to the deck.

I notice the portion sizes too. I think it'd be more accurate to have a scale or put every thing in a cup to measure the size--but that'd take some time to do.

I have a scale - used it a couple times then just decided to go with measuring cups and deck of cards thing.

    175!!!!!!!!

I always seem to have a god number the week I get back on track after doing what I want for a week - maybe the body needs the shock of more then less calories??

Anyway, won't be testing that theory out just for fun, will stay on track. 1 more lb and I lose 2 points a day but might do what someone suggested - keep the points the same until I stop losing.

    Very excited today!!!

Kari: Congrats on the 175. As I've mentioned before, DON'T DROP THE POINTS!!! My WW leader stresses that constantly. If you body is losing (even if it small losses) at the points you're at, don't drop the points. She's had member who have lost over 100 lbs. and never changed their points and continued to lose. - Janet

That is too good to be true!!!

Isn't that nearly 5 pounds in one week? Maybe you were puffy from all the vacation food and it was fluid that went away when you got back to the WW routine.

My health plan sent a thing about portion sizes. It's good to have a reference on thngs. A bagel should be the size of a hockey puck.. Well try and find a bagel that size!

I bought some mini-bagels at the store. They are the size of a hockey puck. DH is the bagel eater, and insists he needs two of the 'mini' ones. I finally convinced him to eat one for breakfast, and then if he needs an AM snack to have the other one.

    Drives me nuts...

That is 5 in one week and I think disconnecting the Coke IV I had going on vacation helped!!! Didn't get reprimanded by the pc because I have been even then up 1 for the last couple of weeks so not above the 2lb/wk average.

    174. Wasn't expecting to lose this week after last week's big loss but am glad I did!!!

Who knew not eating everthing I see, putting down the Pepsi and getting my butt off the couch was all I had to do - lol. That's 35 pounds from when I started (end of January) - 14 more to goal (5 more to normal range on the charts!!!)

    That's pretty good.

Sometimes after a fab week like the week before you're tempted to slack off, but you didn't.

It's the day-after-day of this that will get you! When do you go back to MD Anderson? Perhaps there will be a shopping trip for you then.

We don't go to Houston until September and I'm sure shopping will be involved!!! I'm ok with the day-to-day so far, have never been one who hated ruts so I can eat the same things and be happy enough! Food isn't my problem - am not real sure how I got so fat!

    171!!!!

Got the on-line reprimand for losing too fast. First they take your points away then gripe when you lose - what's up with that? I eat my points and then some, don't need the reprimand.

Not looking for great things this week - wil enjoy the cookouts tomorrow - at least I'll have most of the week before weigh in comes again!

Hope everyone has a great week and enjoy the 4th! We can all diet Wednesday, eat the cheeseburger and potato salad tomorrow!!

    That's great!

I had an eating holiday. I did OK, took a walk every day. Towards the end I got didn't do so good. Wednesday I got stuck at O'Hara all afternoon - a great snacking opportunity. So Thursday will have to be my restart day.

Sure was hot! It got cloudy on the 4th and was much pleasanter. Drove back from Wichita the evening of the 4th. The Flint Hills are so pretty, and then as it got dark we could see fireworks going off in the distance.

Just be sure you disconnect the Pepsi IV!

Tuesday was HORRIBLE (I took a diet holiday!) so today was restart day. Then got not great news from dr (a little progression, new meds) so there went todays diet! Tomorrow is a new day and I WILL behave!

The Pepsi IV was in place yesterday and still today. Will be unhooked at bed time. At least I'm walking in the Relay Friday night - maybe if I stay on the track for 12 hours I'll do ok this week!

    Kari,
I don't understand a reprimand for losing too fast. Is it because if we lose too fast there's more of a tendency to put it back on?

I was in Colorado for a week: mountain hiking and biking (on bike paths and roads, not trails, but still pretty much uphill! The bonus is the ride down!!) You get an extra bang for your buck with exercise in thinner air than where I live, so I did ok weight-wise and enjoyed some good food.

I don't know for sure Ginger but whenever your average over the prior three weeks goes over 2 lbs a week they reprimand you because it could be unhealthy to lose that fast. They also want you eating all your points so you don't slow down your metabolism which will make it harder to keep off.

I think they're just trying to get you to lose by doing things you can keep doing forever and figure if you're going too fast you can't maintain that.

Trust me - I eat every point they give me so that is not a concern (and I don't see that reprimand coming my way again for quite some time!!!)

That's what I thought--the metabolism thing. You've been doing such a great job. It's inspiring that you've lost quite a bit now and are close to your goal!! Great job.

(I think some medical organizations think WW works best and it's working for you!)

IMO if you lose it fast you're likely to gain it back fast.

That's true. Probably because you're starving yourself or changing your eating habits temporarily--then there's the metabolism thing. Your body adjusts to less food, then needs less..... a losing (or gaining!!!!) battle for sure.

I think the Atkins diet is a good example of that. You do this dramatic change and lose quickly. Then as you re-enter the world it's harder.

    174

What they say: GREAT JOB for logging your weight! We notice that you've gained a little this week. You should know that gaining weight every now and then is a natural part of the weight-loss journey. Here are our tips for getting back on track: blah, blah, blah.

What they need to say - STEP AWAY FROM THE PEPSI!!

Ok, I didn't really track at all last week and have the results to prove it. Have already been to the Y today and am back in the saddle!!

    You had a bad week.

The reading the week before was too low. I say consider that you went from 175 to 174, with a little blip to 171 inbewtween.

You're doing good, but don't buy any liters of Pepsi!

    NO PEPSI IN THE HOUSE

Will go back to that plan. I let myself have a slurpee on occasion but if I don't have it here, I won't drink it (duh - took a long time to get there...)

We went out to eat for 3 meals over the weekend. Arby's with french fries and pop, Mexican with chips and pop, and Applebees with a great new appetiser CHEESY BACON TAVERN CHIPS. YUM. Next time you want to say BAH to your good eating habits, try those. Taste like potato skins but on crunchy chips. (ordered the WW entree but DH snuck those in and I had to try them - mistake!)

So anyway, I obviously wasn't trying to lose any last week - figured I'd enjoy the week off and get back to work today! (Plus was too tired Saturday from the Relay to cook!)

No more excuses, back on track.

    Kari,

Well, no WW reprimand anyway. And from the foods you been enjoying, it's no wonder about the weight. When you know the problem, the "cure" is easier.

I read somewhere the only caloric drinks we should have are milk and 100% juices.

There is an Applebees' at the beach in Delaware. I like their menu because they have some things that don't totally break the diet budget.

My husband likes to go to Outback Steakhouse -- which is a nightmare. The best thing to do there is ask for the doggie bag when you order.
