He's got a sense of humor!!!
Haven't visited the other place for a long long time, and I plan to keep it that way.
Kam, I absolutely agree that more money should be spent on prevention and on treating stage IV -much more money - but that doesn't mean we should not treat early cancers. I mostly know about DCIS - and I do know there are studies about how many women continue on to have invasive cancer if the DCIS is not addressed versus how many women have any kind of recurrence with MX or lumpectomy and rads. Without treatment 30-50 out of a hundred women will go on to invasive cancer. With lumpectomy and rads, 15-20 percent will have a recurrence, half of those recurrences will be invasive; taking tamoxifen reduces that stat in half. With MX, 1-2 women out of a hundred with DCIS will have a recurrence and 1/2 of those will be invasive. So actually, treating the DCIS aggressively right now might be one of the best ways to prevent invasive cancer.
Worrying about Athena. Anyone heard anything?

Athena, hoping we hear from you when you're up to posting. Hoping you got a clear MRI and hoping you're putting a plan in place and of course, hoping you're not in any pain.
To hopefully put a smile on your face, here are some of your "favs:"
A little fashion (Narciso Rodriguez):
A little art (William Turner's Ivy Bridge):
And of course, some music.....Ella Fitzgerald singing some Cole Porter (You're the Top):

And Louis Armstrong singing Cole Porter (I Get a Kick out of You):

We all miss you, Athena, and look forward to when you're able to regularly post again. In the meantime, healing vibes being sent your way.

President Obama's speech from last night. Enjoy
: -
-
Sandy - thank you for speaking for me too. MOSTLY, I wish people would stop mentioning, talking about, referring to other threads. I don't want to KNOW what is written in places I would not want to be associated with. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, even tho there are many who want to "defend" - please, please, please keep it off this thread. THank you.
And, for those who think it makes a difference to "defend" - I remember the very wise words of a friend who said:
NEVER TRY TO TEACH A FROG TO SING
There is such a wonderful experience of caring community here, and it feels tainted every time some one speaks about what is written on another thread. LOVE the pics of Obama - HL, a sense of HUMOR is the essence of humanity, and Paul Farmer speaks for ALL OF US. Farmer has done such wonderful work - he really is a treasure.
SUNSHINE....wold be even sunnier if we hear an ALL CLEAR ON SCANS from our Lioness - please roar for us...thinking of you, and your family, and your wonderful doctors who are going to help ou make it through this VERY VERY VERY "nasty" phase - really.
E - evey time I look at a hammer - I cringe for you. Hope today is better, and tomorrow even better than today.
Hugs to this WONDERFUL WONDERFUL CARING COMMUNITY OF SPECIAL WOMEN!!!!!!!

Nice job by Conan O'Brien last night at the White House Correspondent's Dinner:
-
Belinda, thanks for posting the White House correspondence dinner link.
-
Asking Everyone to come together today, and moving forward, to put the accusations aside, as well as the politics. We are here to support and help one another.
Thank you.
-
You're welcome, Alexandria. The speeches the presidents (over the years) and the comedians give at the correspondents' dinner are always pretty funny and end up mocking everyone. I particularly enjoyed the photos of who would play who (or is it whom? : ) in a movie (about the big power players) at the end of Conan's speech. Funny stuff. (It can be found at 24:20 of the speech).

Still waiting to hear about Athena. Getting more worried. Anyone know anything?
-
Good morning. I so much enjoyed watching the link and Pres. Obama's remarks at the Correspondents dinner Belinda and want to thank you for putting the link there. They were funny, and oftentimes extremely noteworthy. He has become so much more for me in the last five years and more.
Sunflower....you have brought up some great ideas and ideals as well. That of not attempting to teach a frog to sing. How right you are. In that vein though I would like to say a little something. I often detest many actions that are taken....be it from people in the Tea Party, or others who are deeply to the right. Panderers and wannabe's and others who center-stage themselves. Some of the left side do that too. However; I do not HATE anyone. HATE is a rather harsh word and I think I'm not there and probably won't get there ever. That aside, I could easily be hated and probably am. I am out-spoken and while I never truly criticized W. Bush as long as he was in the W.House --- all bets were off once he left. Just my opinion, he did extreme damage to our way of life and country and we will be dealing with that aftermath for who knows how long and how many President's terms no matter which side has the office.
I don't hate Bush...that is a huge waste of my energy but he will receive little praise from me. Likewise, those who spend all ther time trying with all their mite to make Pres. Obama's time in office as difficult as they can. I cannot condone anyone who takes what highly appears as destructive actions. I think of so much good that could be done, and those who REFUSE the opportunity will not be getting any good words from me either. If that is perceived as hate....tough.
I do on occasion glance on the other side and elsewhere from time to time. I have done it less and less because the tune never changes. Boring, repetitive, and completely useless. So, in the spirit of moving on I would say once again....hate is a very strong word. I may feel a bit hated at times, but I have no need to return the emotion and will use my energies to enjoy what and who is here and the inspiration I find in every one of you. It is a joy for me to be here.

Agree, jackie, and please note I NEVER used the word "hate" - not in my vocabulary. If I want to express "strong political opinions" I do it to the press, or friends in Washington DC, where it can be useful. DEFINITELY not here, not useful.

Yorkie
LOVE IT...
in case you need a Patriotic uplift check out about minute 18 ( when he starts to speak about the wonderful work the Boston Globe has been doing, think that's about the point - I watched the whole 24 minutes, cuz I love the jokes, SMILES, self deprication " I'm not the young Socialist Muslim I usd to be." with that great SMILE, the sudience roared - but the end of the presentation was truly inspiring, I wanted to sing God Bless America - really, love hearing a President of the United States speaking like that.
Sure wish we'd hear from Athena. Alexandria - if you see something here, would you please email me - thanks.
-
Yorkie, and the rest of the Spangled Scooter Gang - I LOVE how much I learn from you wonderful women - the Dolphin quote inspired me so much, I went to find this http://www.ilanshamir.com/writing/ and he paints too.
Happy Sunshine to all...

Sunny, what a wonderful, wonderful story!

Another great moment of self-deprecation is shown here. What a beautiful smile this man has and I am so happy that he is my President.

I do admit it is much easier to be happy when the person you picked actually wins.....and both times a black man, and both times by 50 percent. It is rather incredible and so much of what he has done ends up being done so with his hands tied figuratively behind his back.
Unless someone 'messes' with the history books, my thought is that unlike his predecessor, he will be remembered great ways as someone who did so much in spite of the do nothing Congress that tried to be a total hindrance at almost every step.
Certainly were quick to handle airline sequestration problems.

Jackie - I watched the whole tape I linked to earlier - and THE SMILE is heartwarming -he was cheered heartily, by those he poked, and especially his self depricating humor. The First Lady of the United States looked more gorgeous than ever - love her hair up, and that DRESS.
Speaking of fashion - I am thinking constantly of Our Fashion Maven Lion, and praying/hoping/wishing for a clear brain scan.

Thought for the Day The best angle to approach any problem is the try-angle.
Just wanted to say I'm thinking too of E and Athena and hoping everyone is doing ok. Getting ready to turn this machine over into sleep mode. Had a long day on my feet in the kitchen. Wanted to have some meals made so we could work on projects for a bit after work each day. The weather is getting a lot nicer and the deer herds are on their rounds to other parts of the lake so it is a good time to pick up under all the trees out here.
Will be making a trip to Marion on Wednesday for my hearing aids. I'm sure it will be wonderful to hear again -- though I do hear, just parts of words are lost, but it is hard for my family who get frustrated with having to repeat so often. Just as frustrating at times for me to ask them too.
Hope you all have a great eveing.

Hoping to hear from our lioness (((((hugs)))))
Stayed home today - got an infection around a tooth - luckily the dentist was able to fit me in. Got some heavy duty antibiotics. He can't extract it because I had Zometa - it's a dead tooth anyway but I did get infections there a lot years ago and for some reason it decided to flare up just when we are about to go away.
I did take advantage and ironed the clothes for us to fly to Adelaide this weekend - all packed except for toiletries. Baby Nick's 1st birthday. Looking forward to giving him lots of cuddles. I bought him a giraffe soft toy today. I bought him lots of new clothes when I was there recently and they were his present, but I couldn't resist. Maybe it will become his favourite to cuddle.
SIL in hospital again - sigh - this time his mood was strange. He has been behaving himself and taking the meds. Apparently his mother has a mood disorder as well as being schizophrenic.
-
Eeeesh...sorry about the tooth, Suzie. I had a tooth break off at the gum line and they wouldn't extract it - Zometa here, too. I had to get a bridge, which is a royal pain in the butt to deal with. And it STILL hurts.
So sorry about your SIL. Psychological disorders are so tough to deal with. If people can't see it or point to it on a microscope, it must not exist. Best wishes to your SIL and your family.
Enjoy your trip, and give that baby extra cuddles!
ATHENA - Thinking about you and hoping for a stellar treatment plan. We got your back. Call if you need ANYTHING.
