Well, it's simple, really.  The anti-car license and anti-dog license folk don't have lobbies quite as strong as the anti-gun license folks do.  When you have the NRA and all those other groups using the "slippery slope" theory, you fear that registering your gun(s) will put you on that imaginary list and the evil black man and his partners in tyrannical crime will come and take them away and.....you will be left....DEFENCELESS.  Help, Help, Help!

By the way, someone who knows a bit about firearms PLEASE tell me why Senator Rob Portman (O) has 14 such weapons.

Yorkie, somehow I missed the pics you put in.  Loved them both very much, but got a huge kick out of the cat and dog cartoon. 

I suppose I don't have enough fear. Perhaps I just don't have time enough in my day to be afraid that someone would take my guns, or raise the price of gas, or lie to me about Benghazi or about two million other things.  

Maybe I just have to trust my self preservation instincts and intuitiveness to know when someone ( especially the man I vote for as President ) is telling the truth about caring for everyone.  These same things help me recognize those who are small minded and out for themselves.  Helps me recognize the stupid and the bigots and hypocrites...all of which I have been at some time in my life.

This past 5 years have produced relief, joy, and satisfaction.  I'm recovering from the horrid Bush years and am quite happy to give up the constant frowns. 

Tornado's missed us last night...they usually do.  We are in a little pocket here and we seldom see any of the harsh parts of these storms.  it does make Spring a pretty dicey time of year though.  We will have a couple of cool days which means 50's instead of 80's but afterward it will start the warmth creeping back.  Just in time for the week-end.

Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) on Thursday took to Facebook to rail against stricter gun control measures -- and, along the way, compared a national gun registry to the genocide in Rwanda. 

"The 2nd Amendment is (or should be) equal to the 1st Amendment and the 4th Amendment and all of the others," Duncan wrote on Facebook. "Ask yourselves why it is under attack? Ask yourselves about a National gun registry database and how that might be used and why it is so wanted by progressives."

Enter the Rwanda comparison. "Read about the Rwandan genocide, the Hutu and Tutsi tribes," Duncan continued. "Read that all Tutsi tribe members were required to register their address with the Hutu government and that this database was used to locate Tutsi for slaughter at the hands of the Hutu. (Since the government had the names and addresses of nearly all Tutsis living in Rwanda (remember, each Rwandan had an identity card that labeled them Tutsi, Hutu, or Twa) the killers could go door to door, slaughtering the Tutsis."

Duncan wrote that he used this particular example "to warn that national databases can be used with evil consequences."

While the National Rifle Association has long warned that expanding background checks would lead to a national gun registry, no such legislation has been proposed. In a roundtable discussion that aired Thursday on MSNBC, Vice President Joe Biden said the push for gun restrictions will not create a registry. "So this idea that there is a national registry, there is no place in the federal government where you can go, not a single place, and find out everybody who owns a gun."

To Sequim (yes, it's pronounced squim ) this weekend, and probably Whidbey Island next weekend.  I had originally thought we were going to be homeless (but in a GOOD way) for a couple of years.  But we started thinking that keeping our stuff in storage and not having any homebase might be frustrating.  Ergo, the looking for a house or land where we can build.  Both hubby and myself have terrible allergies to mold, so are looking for something a bit more on the dry side.  Both Sequim and Whidbey Island (well, much of Whidbey Island) are in the "rain shadow" created by the Olympic Mountains so they are considerably more dry than either Seattle or Tacoma.  Not warmer, mind you, just drier.

I've been thinking (haven't really shared these thoughts with hubby yet  ) that if we find (and buy) a house, I MAY retire a little sooner than we had originally planned - as there is NO FREAKING WAY I will be commuting from Sequim to Seattle!!!  If we build, then it could be I'll work a tad bit longer - until the house is all done...    Anyway, it's really been fun looking and dreaming.  We'll see what the future holds. It could be a none of the above thing...

lindasa...I don't make that leap to Rwanda either.  If people HAVE to go by 'look what happened' all over the whole world we are in neck deep with no way out.  Just my thought but those sorts are crashing boors as well as bordering on needing some mental adjustments.
